Christine: digitize the embroideries, draped the patterns, babysat the machine, sewed the dress Also Christine: Here is the whole team of makers that made this happen THIS is why you're one of my favorite UA-camrs. It's a joy to watch you do what you love :)
I love that you added a personal touch and pulled from pop culture at the same time as a historical garment. Past meets present in the most gorgeous way!
Thank you! It helps that I have a husband who is a wonderful partner and father. But eeks! It's been tough and my upload schedule the past six months shows it! :/
I’m not a fan of Regency women’s fashion, usually, but this is gorgeous! I vastly prefer this to the other strawberry dress. The clothing you make is nothing short of spectacular.
Thank you!! I confess, regency is probably one of my least favorite periods myself - but this particular dress and all the ones from Emma 2020 are turning me around on it!
I just love how you didn't want to put roses on this dress but you actually ended up putting "roses" on it. Strawberries are part if the rosacea family (rose family). I love this! :)
*sigh* Thank you .... you just re-created my own personal white whale. I never thought I would see this anywhere outside of the V&A. It looks gorgeous on you and kudos to the embroidery. If I ever get the funds to re-create my version of it, I will be embroidering strawberries and strawberry blossoms, as per your inspiration. Well done, Christine. Really well done!!!
Thank you Una! Oh man, it's such a white whale for me too. There's just such a moment when you see it in the museum for the first time and your heart goes still, you know?
@@Sewstine Oh absolutely. It was like everything else stepped way back and there was only this dress and me. It has been such a long time. I already felt tickled when I saw the repro in Emma but it wasn't the same. Watching you recreating it was way better, all the thought and inspiration that went into your creation. Wonderful!!!
I actually first saw this dress (the original) on Pinterest, and it had no caption. I automatically assumed it was Gilded/Titanic age. That’s what it really reminds me of.
Gorgeous dress. In some lights it looks like a deep pink and in others red. I love how you break down the steps in making the dress and what all goes into it. I enjoy your videos very much.
I love this, the texture of the fabric is so pretty with the embroidery (also, I'm still kind of mind blown by dissolvable interfacing haha). And I love what you added about getting professional pictures done because it definitely shows a lot more detail and kind of brings the projects to life more in photos. Beautiful work!
I love how you approach a project, it's like shadowing a seasoned seamstress transported to the present day-- you're so skilled , and so straightforward in seeking out the most direct way of achieving the historical effects you want, which is nice, because the focus is on the most beautiful aspects of the finished piece. It's really helpful to see someone saying unambiguously that they hate making undergarments. It just increases the likelihood of me starting to cut out more patterns, and make a design I'm excited about a reality, rather than cajoling myself into an enthusiasm I don't feel for less essential processes. (Though I absolutely get the calming aspect of sewing by hand-- this is just a personal gripe.) I often speculate what a 1540s tailor might have done with, say, the synthetics now seen as cheap and ugly, and try to look at new materials with a fresh eye-- I think it's only occasionally you see someone who makes something really transcendent, like Iris van Herpen, that lives up to the potential of the methods and materials available today. So anyway, thanks for your blog and your channel, they're both practically helpful and genuinely inspiring.
Thank you so much Marta! I am very honest about how I don't like making things that go underneath and won't show. I really do only have so much free time and would rather spend that time doing my favorite parts of each project. (That being said, I do love making men's shirts; not sure what that's about). But yes! Please do treat yourself to the parts that you enjoy doing! I had to look up Iris van Herpen - she is spectacular. Thank you for sharing!
The elegant simplicity of this dress makes it one of my favorites - would love this is in a soft petal pink. (Looks lovely on you, by the way!) Once again, stunning!
I'm so happy to have found this channel. My eyes got misty seeing the photo reveal - the dress is so magnificent. I look forward to a time when I'll be able to pursue projects like this!
Im not a fan of regency but dang. This is glorious. For me its the embroidery that makes it. But then, I'm a sucker for more embroidery. I wish I did more work on my own clothing but Im always held back buy worrying about making it so I'm not willing to match a piece with as many things. I have so many hang ups on what Im willing to match with what. Not a problem with a dress though. Anyway, thank you for sharing your project and making an amazing video to show off the process and that dress!
I'm only three minutes in but tldr, new subscriber. The algorithm put this on my feed and I saw "strawberry dress" and "regency" and clicked immediately. I looked away during the intro and heard you call Elspeth and thought, "the plainswalker? Nah." And then you introduced Gideon and flashed the card and now I'm a fan forever.
I love - That dress - The attention to detail - The incredible amount of experience with sewing you share with us - That look on your face, when Malorie Harris lets you inspect the hair do, after before you being like "I hide away all my hair and put on these cheapo fake-pieces" :D You're incredible.
That is so gorgeous! You look absolutely amazing, that dress is... Just.... Stunning.. Don't have words. You make it seem so easy and effortless (though I'm sure a lot of effort went into making this!). I think it's absolutely incredible that you are a mom, work in the medical field, during a raging pandemic, without childcare, and yet still manage to make something so stunning, and even let us share in the wonder. You are an amazing person!
I'm usually not into regency styles but I now want to mix this idea and Rachel's Halloween strawberry dress. Such a cute dress with pumpkins and bats and little bones, the high waistline could even play off of a certain vampire aesthetic too! I want one in every color😍 I'll wait til my skill level is a bit higher tho😅 I'm trying to teach myself how to do embroidery at the moment :D
My family does embroidery and watching those machines can get tiring for sure! I just got into this type of fashion and you're the first youtuber I've seen to digitize it and everything, it's so cool.
Beautiful video, astonishing dress! Loved it from start to finish. So inspiring and informative. You looked beautiful in the dress. Also, very good advice about getting professional hair, makeup and photography. Once again thankyou.
You are one of a few i've seen who put a distinctive spin on the strawberry dress rather than just trying to remake it as it originally was. I love that creativity
Love this rendition of the strawberry dress!!! Watching all your amazing embroidery always kindles my crazy ideas of making historical Russian dresses... You are exceptional talented!!
Friend, I am so glad that you celebrated yourself and your hard work with a photo-shoot. You looked radiant! As a fellow sewist (quilter) no one knows how much you put into your pieces--time, money, the energy! just to work through it while the littles are running around. I admire your craft!
I saw someone share a photo of you making this and I couldn't remember your channel name to look it up, but I knew whenever the video came out it would eventually show up on my recommended feed and it just did! So glad, I've been looking forward to seeing this project since then
All I can say is wow 😍😩😳 the team you worked with on the photos and makeup/hair really brought your work to life before our eyes. Such an amazing way to show different types of art in one. 💕

I was in tears as I watched you and your expressions while she helped you get made up and get dressed....you look so lovely and so happy... almost as if you were a bride getting ready for her wedding actually. Thank you so much for sharing the whole process especially including getting dressed and the photo shoot. I REALLY enjoyed this video. Beautiful 🥰

Ok ok ok you’re amazing and awesome and clever but I genuinely just need to say out loud how much I love that your dogs are named after magic cards. It brings me immense amounts of joy and I just love it so much. Nerds unite!
The dress you made is gorgeous. At first I was like what kind of yucky green rose mismatch color dress is that inspiration, but you made it work and the strawberries just did it for me with the deep red color of the dress. Very excellent job.
First time watcher and just wanted to say: You look incredible in this dress! The color suits you so well. I also felt the struggle to watch you get into it yourself. I know the pain, when noone is around to help with that. Great video and I'll look out for more.

I am so inspired by your enthusiasm for your costumes I’ve always loved costumes and I never thought that it would be some thing that I should pursue. I’m practical to a fault, I think to myself well where would I wear it ? what would I do with it afterwards? but watching you get so much joy out of the process and then having photos done with it makes me think that maybe I should be spending some more time pursuing the idea of just dressing up for the sake of it .
14:42 you look a bit like a teenager in this shot. The Regency silhouette makes you look even more petite. Ps also can I just add that the dress looks gorgeous on you and its a work of art.
💖👑👑💖🎬🎥📽💖🤗💖I wanted to watch this one again .l think this dress is so Beautiful and how you have made it is just Beautiful once again Thank you we all appreciate your day Job has a Doctor in a busy Hospital Helping people with long shifts.. Ok so I didn't know you had an embroidery machine and my brain immediately assumes hand embroidery, so I had a minor heart attack when you said you'd embroidered all of that - can you imagine how long that would take?! Your dress is absolutely beautiful, it looks beautiful on you and you look beautiful in it. It's just... Ridiculously pretty. I love it.
Whoa the photo shoot at the end was amazing!!! You did a great job with this piece and that final pic looked totally like a portrait you’d find at an old estate!!
Thank you, your work is amazing. I teach art history and watch videos about historical clothing, yours are absolutely the best. Now I know about your digitizing I will be glad to try! Lovely. The dollar value doesn’t even matter as much as the educational and cultural value you are passing on to future generations. (I only mention dollar value bc at the end of the video you say how expensive the materials are (!) and not even time).
Gorgeous!!!! The red dress is also my dream dress and I do plan on replacing the embroidery with some fake flowers for a more 3D effect as well as a whimsical feel.
The only thing I have ever sewn was an apron in middle school. But seeing beautiful things like this (and seeing Bernadette and Rachel), it really makes me want to give it a try. Maybe when I have enough money for materials 😅
What a stunning dress! And I totally agree that having worked that hard and having such a beautiful result (that also cost you quite a bit) you should have professional photographs made. It’s even more special because YOU are in your own creation.
I almost didn't click on this video because of the reference to the strawberry dress, but I wanted to see how you would do one. And, of course, I'm glad I did....This is soooo lovely. Your natural hair for the bangs really gives the dress a more elegant appearance over the fake ones. Your hair is better for the look of regency...Thanks for sharing your photo shoot, it was very awesome...
I love seeing the entire process, hearing your voice over, the getting ready and finally the professional photoshoots. It's soooooo satisfying! Thank you for taking the extra time to share with us on UA-cam.

Watching you make this dress was very healing! 🍓 Absolutely adore the embroidery and the dress itself is so pretty. The photos turned out beautiful!
I see those Plainswalker names!! What adorable doggos.
I love seeing the entire process, hearing your voice over, the getting ready and finally the professional photoshoots. It's soooooo satisfying! Thank you for taking the extra time to share with us on UA-cam.
