I agree! Her bustle dresses are the best I've ever seen. It's so amazing to actually seen them in a video since there was mostly paintings of that time. They are even more beautiful than they look in the paintings. They must look incredible in person.

I would love to hear more about medical history and their supplies, while covering maybe the reason for the changes over history to when women were allowed "masculine" look and wore pants scrubs. I believe scrubs for medical professionals giving patient care and facing the public is fairly recent, only from the past couple-three decades. Before that, nurses wore uniform dresses and caps and physicians wore button-up shirts and business slacks or skirts. Only custodians and maybe orderlies wore scrubs on the floor. In the operating theater, that was different, of course. You wouldn't want to mess up your nice flannels. Now everyone looks alike.
This outfit makes you look like you should be investigating Victorian crimes alongside an eccentric detective. I am loving the Dr. Watson vibes.

Would love a series on historical doctoring!! Your insight on how practices have changed would be really unique I think, especially if you try to explain what the old and new techniques accomplish. So much of the existing content for this topic omit the concepts/reasonings behind historical medical decisions.

I love that you made that- there are so many bits and pieces that go together perfectly. Your biggest risk is people thinking it is so cool that they fake being sick to get the full Victorian doctor experience and see what's in the bag!

Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman is one of the things I credit for my interest in historical dress (Jane Seymour's loooong hair, tiny waist, and huge skirts *chef's kiss*) so yes, I'd love more doctor stuff videos.

This was so great Christine!! You should totally stuff some one time use ice packs (those breakable ones that you have to crush to activate) in there too. And since it's basically an emergency bag, maybe an emergency sewing kit and snacks (like granola bars, crackers, or chocolate) into your bag as well if you have the space so you're not carrying around more than one bag.
For the pocket that is messed up, maybe hot glue or sew a new lining into that pocket, hiding the mess underneath it? Could even add a cardboard, foam, or polyester layer underneath to smooth it out and hide the imperfections. I think it would be too small to be worth turning into an insulated pocket but maybe not?

I totally agree with the ice packs & snacks idea - Depending on the convention you can get a lot of people in big costumes who overheat & get dizzy, or people who don't bring food & get low blood sugar.

This such a knockout dress! The history of it, the meaning of it, the 100 hours of hand sewing!!! Glorious.
My grandfather was a DO and chief of anesthesia at a large Midwestern hospital from the mid 70s to 1989. But he started his residency during WWII doing house calls when he was in his early 20s. I remember when I was a kid in the mid70s opening up his old doctors bag and him explaining what everything was. To this day, I remember the specific smell of his bag: disinfectant, tubing, excitement.

PS- oxygen tubing really helps tying up tomatoes and beans in your garden. He even used it for drip system for his greenhouse orchids😊
You could always cover the weird spongy part in fabric (velvet could be cool) and sort of glue it in with contact cement!
A piece of leather may work as well, the glue won't seep so easily, too. I'd use a whitteling knife first to remove as much sponge as possible, and then use some sandpaper or a sanding tool like a dremel to make a smooth surface for the glue.

My great grandfather was a doctor in St. Bernard, Ohio (Cincinnati). When my grandmother was a little girl (early 1930s) she'd often run errands for him - including delivering medications to neighbors/patients. Since it was the depression, many patients paid him with eggs, food, or other items. Unfortunately, I don't have anything of his from that time!
This whole outfit is PERFECTION. Also only you could make an outfit that’s so tailored and with such an insane number of buttons look (relatively) easy to accomplish ^_^ I can’t wait to hug you in this at costume college!!!

I love this! As a PA student and sewist I am thrilled to see whatever you talk about but medical stuff especially! The dress looks fantastic on. My favorite part is the little waistcoat! I almost think you could wear waistcoat + blouse + trousers if you wanted a more anachronistic pants-themed look.

for something else entirely, i got a dress from linennaive, an italian linen one, and the elastic cartridge-pleated sleeves chafed really badly, but after removing them and altering the dress its become the most comfortable thing i have ever worn in my life. im so glad i learned basic sewing, suddenly i cant imagine how i ever got dressed without being able to alter anything i wore

Talk about medical history and historical doctor stuff: YES!
I recommend you look into shoe repair shops for your bag. Skilled leather (shoe) workers are also able to repair bags as well. So make sure you do your research into their qualifications, how long they’ve been working, see examples of some of their repair work. There are some who have channels here on UA-cam promoting their skills.

Thanks for this, my physician Dad made house calls in rural Michigan in the 60's and had a big compartmented bag that fascinated me as a kid.

I would recommend adding Narcan, an Epi-Pen, and something to use as a pressure bandage in case an artery is damaged.

This is gorgeous, and those buttons are a perfect accent. I much prefer the solid wool gowns to all the frills and silks (although those can be great too). As for channel content, I love listening to people talk about what they love, so anything goes.

_Suggestion for the Doctors Bag Compartment_ - Do what the Grandparents did and line it with very thin red aromatic cedar. You could do it yourself or find a local carpenter. My family had to let go of my Granny's cedar hope chest. But it kept 150 years of family photographs safe for almost a century.

Another outstanding historical gown! I am constantly amazed by your mad sewing/tailoring/pattern making skills. As an RN I would love to hear more about medical history- pharmacy history and plant derivatives, etc. Somebody mentioned reaction video to Starz Outlander series plants and herb use as medicine. Actually, whatever medical subject you choose would be fine.
Love the outfit. I had a moment of 'seeing' my daughter who is a doctor running in that. :) As for your bag with the issue. Have you considered lining it with sticky backed felt? You could get it in gray, and line it. I've used the sbfelt with a number of older boxes and it looks great. I would love to hear more about being a doctor in the Victorian era as well. My spouse does first aid work for our SCA events, and he taught a class on first aid called "Know your leeches". As an herbalist, I've always been fascinated with healing and all of it's 'branches'.

I love that you're making this costume up to wear to events and thinking about how to balance the things you do in your leisure time with your profession. For the bad compartment, I'd consider bringing the bag to a shoe repair shop to see what they would suggest. My inclination would be to rip the lining out of that compartment and put in new lining, but I know that may not be what you would like to do.
