She's good, isn't she? 🙂 Candy Dulfer is a Dutch saxophonist. She's been playing since the 80s and she's still going strong. She played several times with Prince (you can see her in the extended music video of "Partyman") and Sheila E, among many others. The drummer in her band actually used to be in the New Power Generation. She also had a hit song, "Lily Was Here", with Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics. There's a live performance with both of them, which I highly recommend. This video is from the 'Leverkusener Jazztage' 2009 concert (Germany). The whole concert is brilliant, but you definitely should check out "Strasbourg - St. Denis" and "Don't Go" (both are also uploaded by MrAkdnt).
Candy Dulfer's band members are: Candy Dulfer (saxophone) Jan Van Duikeren (flugelhorn) Arjen Mooijer (keyboards) Chance Howard (keyboards) Kirk A. Johnson (drums) Ulco Bed (guitar) Leona Filipo (chorus singer) Manuel Hugas (bass)
Heyy Smitty you are welcome dude!!! it was me who suggested this this was an incredible and intense preformence she was literally on fire!!! Definitely a song to play for new years every year to!🔥 This was a master class in Funk right here!!! The band everything was just outstanding 👏 Candy is born in: Amsterdam, Neverlands
You mentioned George Clinton and deservingly so. But you really should've gone back even further to James Brown and JB's. That part that you acknowledged was a masterclass on how to put funk together was literally invented by James Brown. This is exactly how they created their songs. They would be in the studio and he would call on one of them to start it off and then he would call on each band member or section to add a little bit to it until it felt right. The break beats were created from them deconstructing the various elements down to the drums and bass and then rebuilding the song back up from there. They are the original architects. Whatever George Clinton learned, he admittedly learned from them first hand when he partnered with Bootsie Collins and his brother Catfish (both previous members of The JB's) along with others to form Funkadelic.
