Japan always had a very strong music-caring culture; japanese versions of SACDs were among the most valuable and looked after and I'm talking about western rock/pop/blues artists from Dire Straits to Santana. The same interest is displayed here: these young and beautiful ladies are making sure the jazz/blues/funk spirit is kept alive and kicking, with all the benefits of 21st century technologies.
This classic never gets old! It keeps rocking with that same rythym that got my dancing shoes going many years ago when I was young lad flirting with ladies. Oh such great times.
This is the pure definition of "What is the UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE of PLANET EARTH?" ......MUSIC, MUSIC & MUSIC!!! THIS HERE RENDITION of AWB's "PICK UP THE PIECES" was STRAIGHT-UP INSAAAANE!!! I Luv'd ever second of this INCREDIBLE, DYNAMIC & AWESOME performance put forth here!!! They HORNS....omg...them HORNS were freakin' GREAT!!! From the sweet tones put forth by the soprano saxist, the alto saxist's scale climbs & the tenor on the far right's beautiful rhythmic & staccato play was intense & soooo enjoyable! Bassist carried the bottom in sync adding that right interplay with the drummer's syncopatic bass pedal & snare play hits & rolls............& lets not forget the rhythm guitarist & keyboardist adding that right amount of "spice and flavor" to the overall perf. I AM SOLD & NOW A SUBSCRIBER /FOLLOWER for you guys are FANTASTIC!!! I don't see ASIAN WOMEN MUSICIANS, I SEE & HEAR AN ABSOLUTE TEAM OF HI'LY TALENTED ARTISTS, that I HOPE 1 DAY will schedule a performance in NYC - cause I'll BE THERE ! From 1 to 5 STAR rating?....I GIVE YOU GUYS 11 STARS!!!! Thank you for this FABULOUS Performance! THANK YOU to the "JAZZ MARVEL AVENGERS"!!!!
Stumbled across these gals and I so fricken enjoyed them playing this AWB gem. Every one of them is so talented but what hooked me was in watching them play, they all so enjoyed the music..what a vibe. Carry on….
If you're a true fan of The AWB and "Pick Up the Pieces" like I am, if you haven't already, check out this version from "Live From Daryl's House" w/ original AWB member Alan Gorrie and crank it up! Very funky. ua-cam.com/video/DvWvzRHDYg8/v-deo.html
While this tune is a great standard and this band's rendition is commendable ... One would be hard, hard pressed to imagine 1973 AWB headlining a tune from 1923 ...
I don't know if anybody else noticed how much fun the guitar player was having but man is she cute and she's having the time of her life not to mention that extraordinary drummer what a great band
No kidding, one of the best renditions of this great song. Love the pace and energy, not to mention the individual skill and brilliant teamwork. I hope you can keep this group together for a very long time. Excellent chemistry!
This is phenomenal. The credits state that this is a Candy Dulfer cover but: "Pick Up the Pieces" is a song by the Average White Band from their second album, AWB. On the single, songwriting credit was given to founding member and saxophonist Roger Ball and guitarist Hamish Stuart individually and the entire band collectively."
YES, this was a huge album in the 70's, it was the 'good' part of Disco, but also the Jazz/Fusion scene at that time. Good Times, music was SO varied and great.
What I want for Christmas 2023: The DVD "The Jazz Avengers Live at Blues Alley Japan". Whatever label these ladies record for: make it happen !!!! We are ALL waiting !!!!
Wow! Raw talent! At first I thought the soprano was #1, but by the end, with multi solo, realized everyone of them is a #1 talent, even the tenor, which takes big air for that small frame.
Wow. This is the best I have ever heard this song played. Even uptempo, it just grooves so nicely. All the performers' solos are effortless when they play. The joyful energy and smiles of the guitarist and tenor sax player reminds me of Shinobu Kawashima. And as always, Senri is at the top of her game, and another excellent solo from Juna.
I’m not much for covers of songs already done, but what you’ve done with this, exceptional! Love the modulations. Love the nice I - IV groove in the middle. Love the four saxes. Very, very well done.
These ladies played this tune very well. Nice arrangement as well. And as a drummer I enjoyed this drumming lady most. She's got virtuosity but is still musical. And I love the way her kit sounds. Wow! 👏👏 Kind regards and compliments from a Dutch drummer 🥁
My heart belongs to the drummer. She's terrific!
She's Miss Senri Kawaguchi, Mr.
then I discovered Kanade Sato....
I love Juna.
Senri, the lady with a smile that could light up Times Square
As a pro drummer, I say yes, she's got it.
Just when you thought you had seen it all!!! OMG
Playing a song written before any of them were born and doing so well. I love how Chizuru always looks like she's having so much fun. Well done all!
ジャズおばあさん軍団ですよね。
JAMAICA SAYS' YEAH, MON 😂 YEAH !!! Awesome sauce dat !!! 💕♥️♥️♥️

Chizuru Segawa grinning from ear to ear throughout the whole piece.....brilliant. 😍 Wonderful performance from all the girls.
Yes, she's having the time of her life! I would be too if I had Senri Kawaguchi and Juna Serita laying it down on the other side of the stage!
Chizuru is a blessing to watch and she is far more talented than she often is allowed to show in this group. Look her up 😄
That girl on drums just killing it and making it look like a walk in the park.
Well, she's only the top 10 drummers in the world. Look up Senri Kawaguchi.

I like it
Played this tune in college - glad they are having fun with it and they are playing it better then our band did!
Tremendous playing, so much energy and they're having a ball. Good luck to them all. I definitely have a soft spot for Miku.
No denying all that talent. 👍 But some tunes you just can’t rush. This is one of them. Find the “groove” ladies and it’s all good. Well done! 😉
