I literally only ever change blades with my impact driver. 6mm bit for the bigger Makita saws, 5mm for the smaller ones (including circular saws). Left hand thread for drop saws and left-side blade circular saws. Normal thread for traditional right-side blade circular saws. Love your videos mate. Cheers
I own the 10" and 12" models of the saw and noticed the dust collection tubes attached to the saw are different between the two. On the 10" the dust port is located down at the bottom of the saw at the junction between the two dust collection points. The 10" design is less intrusive to the motion of the saw and it's ability to work up against a wall, and also seems to collect dust better. Both saws are very nice and are exceedingly good at collection fine dust particles from materials like MDF.
My tool belt is pieced together from a few different things. It was a basic nylon belt with two pouches. I have switched the pouches out with different ones. The most unique thing is I use a "electrician's" pouch on my right side. It has vertical dividers that make it great for carrying tools like a short pry bar, folding ruler, mini level etc. I did a video on my setup if anyone wants to see it.
I do like new tools, just bought a makita 18v 8 piece pack yesterday. I like that saw how you can have it hard up against the wall and not have to worry about the sliding mechanism. Great video Scott.
I've got a gatorback contractor pro belt, normally wearing a fall arrest harness when I'm working tho. So that belt is for framing and I have one with fall arrest attached
The blades on miter saws go round and round. So they all do that. The idea is to find a saw that is light enough so your back does not start falling apart from hauling the thing all over the place. You don't think about that so much when you are younger...but you should.
Have tried this saw. The dust extraction is fairly good. They are as you say super heavy to lug around. My good old hitachi 10" finish mitre saw is heavy enough.
Got my diamondback maybe 3 months ago. Pockets are still a little tight and hard to get the hands into to get out the fasteners. Hoping it relaxes a bit and stretches. But love it. Love the hammer holster. And mine came with a nail puller holster as well.
Have the same saw. Two main issues with it I've seen so far are: - the packaging is nowhere near good enough (as you can see, no internal padding. No issue as a result myself but seems plenty of people had issues with cracked guards and handles - the bottom dust port is basically for show. The opening is fine but where it turns to the right it goes through like an inch squared cross sectional area space. They just haven't bothered to figure machine a better duct way into the casting. I plan to borrow someones die grinder to sort this. If it weakens the structure too much I'll probably circumvent the whole bottom port and put in a custom one. Unscrew the flanged spigot that goes to the bottom port and you'll see what I mean. Other than that, absolute monster, cuts straight, clicks are good and the cut quality is unreal. Oh and yeah had the issue with the bolt being INSANELY tight, just need to tap the allen with a hammer with progressively harder taps.
I've been using a Diamondback for about a year now. Saw Kyle from RR Buildings review and got one sent over here to Australia. Love the hammer scabbard. The set up wasn't cheap though.
I made a hammer sleeve after saw kyles. Cut apart an old bag and made one and attached it to my $37 Home Depot bags. Works great but the belt itself is still not that comfortable lol.
Really enjoy the video's bro! I used to have a Occidental belt, then a friend of mine gave me a diamond back set and I will never go back. They are insanely light and the hammer sleeve is unmatched.
That saw is a beast. Ive got the same one and I love it. 3 other people have bought the corded version after using mine because they run different battery platforms but all agree its a beast
If I was a betting man I'd place $100 on the fact you forgot about the reverse thread on the blade bolt. Lol. Really interested about the saw review, in the market for a new dropy.
The efficicut blades cut nice but the have such a fine tip there’s very little clearance so if cutting wet timber of timber with tension they jam up pretty easy and heat the blades which buggers them pretty quick
Hi Scott, did you look at large companies (like Makita, Stanley, Dewalt) tool belts? As they are probably available in most countries. Maybe you can also talk to people that you know, if anyone used them, and make one large compilation of what's good/bad about them based on more people opinion? Things like fixed pouches vs separated from belt, placing of hanger for hammer (IIRC you already talk about it), type of hammer hanger, leather vs plastic, optimal overall size/weight, is it maybe worth to do any conditioning to them, maybe you can find and point out best futures from parts from different brands, if is it worth to put any plastic disposable inserts to pouches.. or maybe you already miss some futures that would help? Those are just some questions that I can think of so far. As for now there are already few episodes where you talk about them, but I think that compilation and opinion of more people would be great :)
@@TheToolnut Yes, it's quite heavy. I'm guessing 60lbs. I keep mine on the makita stand but I installed some 10" pneumatic tires and a wide axle so it's easy to transport now.
I can;t believe they put a laser on that saw. The dust collection and rail system look top notch. I won't trade out my flexvolt sliding saw. Sight line>laser Any Makita owners will love this saw. I bet it is the cat's pajamas.
I used the shoulder straps for the tool belt for maby one year before getting bad back pain from it, they are definitely comfortable to wear but in my opinion not worth it. Cool vids bro.
Free diamond back, who in there right minds turning that down. Its like 500+ to get one to nz was looking at getting one at the start of the year lucky bugger
Scott, that's a fine looking tool belt, I'm looking forward to your review on that one. My next tool purchase is the Festool TS 55, & I can't justify a $300 to $500 USD tool belt at the same time. Keep up the great video's, they are always a pleasure to watch. Cheers from the USA!
Hey, as a multiple festool till owner I'm not saying you shouldn't buy the ts55 because it does its job well, I'm also in the market for a track saw but this video got me thinking whether I shouldn't consider other options ua-cam.com/video/oezp-_DcUgg/v-deo.html
I reckon for the amount of time he spends filming and editing to get a minimum of a video a week posted compared to what he is worth per hour, plus the marketing value that a brand receives from placement in Scott's content the 'free' stuff is not really free, in fact I think he deserves more 'free' stuff 😁
I would find it difficult to find a use for that saw. It’s too big and heavy for lugging around from site to site. It would make a good workshop miter saw but then why would you need it cordless? It would be great for doing precise cuts on large timber somewhere where you not on mains power..... and that is not very often for most carpenters. Might come in handy for oak framing but that’s about it. What Makita need to do is develop a light weight double compound miter saw.
I’m not new to being early Scott I’m 13 and it’s 2.33am an school is tomorrow I’ve commented befor saying you inspire me and all that good stuff but yea I should probably catch some sleep bye from SA Australia!
I have been looking at the smaller cordless droppy. My corded one is huge like that and I get really sick of lugging it around. It must be 25 kg and really awkward to carry and put up in the van. That thing is a beast.
i think the issue with the saw is if you r using a corded saw with festool vac, you can just use the auto mode, but with cordless saw, you have to turn on the vac LOL...
effingcut blade? well that´s radical for a blade but if it cuts it effingcuts. anyways. ah left hand threads, unmarked ones, the dream of every repair shop :D:D. i recall the colour biking commentary... :D:D:D not that shy. ha. take care and thanks for the video. always a breath of fresh air. pete
hey Scott is the layout of the pouch working good, or the occidental, I like the pouches that are big and open, but I never had diamondbacks before what you think of them?
Well... I like the saw, really nice! I don't like the belt... much prefer the leather of the Occidentals. I do like the hammer holder but since I do a lot of inside work, I'd probably still wear it in the back. I prefer the occidental setup (horizontal and opened) over the material and setup of the DB. The weight difference is also negligible once loaded up. Those loops in the back don't look like they fair well with hammers... it looks like a police officer belt lollll. Deputy S. Brown it will be ;) FULL DISCLOSURE - I am an Occidental Leather guy all the way :)
I just started carpentry. Got a cheap belt to start with that let’s all my tools fall out whenever I bend over lol I’d totally take your belt off your hands. Just mail it to Canada
Bluetooth feature is nice but, makita bluetooth vacuum atm is way too small, dustbag size is only 8 litres. But perhaps in future they make bigger version battery vacuum with larger dustbag. Waiting your interview of the drop saw.
great video scott! Im just starting out as an apprentice and would like to know where you bought the suspenders? for your tool belt, They look like they take strain off carrying the belt I could not find them online.

Okay, Scott, I have to admit. I’ve been binge watching your stuff! 😁 Let me know what you think of that belt, they’ve got a lot of perks!
Absolutely the same, at college and working towards being a carpenter and he's really helped so much !

Putting your phone screen to the camera as a transition was pretty cool
Special ops tool gear, my new go to bag/vest system. So comfortable and all weight of your hips and back
From someone who owns a diamondback. You’ll love it
What size is your waist. What belt size you go with? From there chart I’m right in the middle of a xl and xxl. Just trying to get a idea. Thank you.
Nice pouches. I’m a carpenter, had Diamond back pouches for 8 years. And it’s still great. Great investment.

I see Scott Brown, I thumbs up. It's a simple thing.
You could say hello to him as well, you know.
Hello from the US. I’m an electrician but man do I enjoy watching your videos and learning anew trade great context Scott.!

I bought my Martinez M1 from the people’s tool CO. Was super stoked with the speed and ease of purchase. Highly recommend the guy!
I do like new tools, just bought a makita 18v 8 piece pack yesterday. I like that saw how you can have it hard up against the wall and not have to worry about the sliding mechanism. Great video Scott.
Haha the first thing I thought when you said it was too tight was reverse thread on the bolt.
You will love them I have had mine for 5 year and still in great shape
I've got a gatorback contractor pro belt, normally wearing a fall arrest harness when I'm working tho. So that belt is for framing and I have one with fall arrest attached
I nabbed the 10" version of that saw at home depot on clearance for $400, with 2-5 amp hr batteries, I've been impressed.

ive had a similar setup for the last few years, absolutely love it, by far the best belt ive ever had
I can relate to the stuck bolt... I had to take my large 18V impact driver to loosen mine. No other way of doing it.
The blade left hand thread is used so it doesn't loosen its self over time with the blade start acceleration.
Those blades are awesome! Got one with my brushless 18v x2 185mm circular saw and it feels like a hot knife through butter.
Have tried this saw. The dust extraction is fairly good. They are as you say super heavy to lug around. My good old hitachi 10" finish mitre saw is heavy enough.
These help with my carpentry and never fail to entertain me. Keep up the good work from Cornwall England!

Soke them in cold water and stuff tool bateries in the pockets while drying, of streches them out and forms them
@@laumin6581 thanks. Coworker said baseballs. Just have to find some downtime to try that.
For carpentry and drywall i should get a toolbelt, but we do mostly furniture and built in closets so worker pants all the way to avoid scratches etc

That Makita saw looks like a beast!
I have the 10" version and it's a beautiful piece of equipment. Just remove the fences when you make a bevel cut haha.

Had a lot of problems wit this saw and the non adjustable fence is a pain. cool vid fella
Their is an alan bolt to tighten the fence. You mean that they dont slide like the dewalt?
Well done Rob.
Can you put a standard pouch on the Diamondback belt? By standard- I mean the type where the belt feeds through the loop on the pouch...
I had the same problem loosening the bolt to change the blade. Makita should come up with a easier system to replace the blades.
I love the main title content and the side stories mixed in, keep it up :)
