I have one, and it saddens me to see ir constantly forgotten about It has potential, it's just CIG never seems to have time for it, it's probably the oldest ship design with only the absolute bare minimum done to keep it flyable in-game.
They did the Retaliator, and that was another of the forgotten ships. There is hope! Especially if they intend to use it in SQ42 in some capacity.
@@JL-rj9fl Tali wasn't forgotten, they just didn't bother touching it until they finished modularity and that took a while.
@@SeaRaven227 For sure, I should have put "forgotten" in quotes. I'm glad its here and can't wait to get those modules when they become available in game.
I love my gladitor. Never has a ship been forgotten so hard by Cig. But i still love her. in lore i think its able to do search and rescue. I also think the turret needs to be a remote turrent to get rid of that pimple on her forhead. Then she would look perfect.
Some CIG devs literally forgot it existed at one point.
The Lore of the Gladiator ia pretty fascinating. Started as a scam basically, then its early service life it was essentially a Career ender for pilots. Then after the Vanduul became known it was found to be highky effective if it had a proper fighter escort, and became a big deal.

Lol thanks for the updated review I'm debating rebuying it but I'm honestly hoping for a gladiator mk 2 with the turret gunner guns slaved to the pilot i think that alone will increase this beauties player use or maybe the military version of the gladiator.

I have the Gladiator as, on paper, it fills a role which I'm very interested in playing. Unfortunately the ship seems to have largely been forgotten about by CIG and has remained largely untouched for a very long time. I see recommendations for the Harbinger as an alternative quite often when the Gladiator does come up in conversation but despite some crossover they have their own distinctive roles, at least on paper.
I hope they update this ship someday and don't make a MK II like they did to the Hornet. Its a bit frustrating that I have a ship for several years that gets forgotten, then they decide to make a MK II before updating the original.
Really enjoyed this when it was ship of the month, the only complaint i had was the same as i do with many ships with turrets, that top turret should be able to be locked forward and pilot controlled if unmanned.
I always forget this ship even exists and am reminded each year at the convention. I cannot remember the last time I saw this ship in game.
The only thing it has going for it is its cool looks and torpedo. Really needs a gold pass update. Make it tanky and maybe allow turret guns to be slaved to pilot. Done deal. But I feel CIG will sell the solution with a Mk II at this rate.
It feels like cig intended this to be aimed at being carrrier based. ❤
Hopefully they will MK II the Gladiator; because yes, it has potential. I think it’s a better choice if you nest it in a larger ship; as it packs well for an Idris or Kraken hangar
I have enjoyed spending time with this ship as a Retaliator loaner. Its currently the only "fighter" I have with a turret. As a result, I have used it quite a bit with friends. Definitely PVE focused for sure, just as you said. 🙂
Double the shields, make the turret slaved to the pilot when sans gunner a la superhornet, optionally change it to a remote, and I'd call her good. Maybe larger wing missile mounts for a larger payload. Doesn't need a ton of survivability because the concept is fly in, drop your rocks and bug out. One thing the Gladiator has over the Harbinger is that the Gladiator can lock on and chuck ALL FOUR TORPEDOS at the same time, making for some huge burst potential, wherareas the Harbinger spits them out in sequence, forcing you to remain locked in for longer.
Love this dorky little ship. Looks like a 10. Needs a huge buff to speed/firepower/HP take your pick.
Had this pop up in a bounty one time and I had no idea what it even was! Wild there are ships like that out there still that get no love.
I slept on this ship but it sounds like an ideal multi crew ship. Would have bought it in game before the money nerf
just needs the turret mated to the pilot controls when the turret is empty. it used to have that, the super hornet has that now. theres no reason for it not to
I don’t generally find a lot of interest for combat ships, but for some reason I love this one
I was looking using it as a snub craft to bring my crucible. But I opted for a Pisces for cost and size limits. I'm expecting the crucible to loose cargo space if you haul a ship.

I love my gladiator. She's good with a gunner. Works well in a group fight scenario.
I can kinda forgive the small quantum tank given that it's a missle boat, you're probably going to be in port a lot re-arming, might as well top off the fuel, too.
This is a PT boat of old. I like it, takes some guts to use it.
funny thing is this ships lore matches all to well with the f-14 tomcat in almost every way.
This is one of the few ships that I haven't ever flown.
I really hope it gets a modularity pass for that big center hub, an emp module, a larger turret, radar, cargo module etc etc. Similar to the hornet series.
CIG please give these older, awesome ships some love!

Still waiting for the day when we can slave the turret to pilot control. That'll be the day this ship goes from mid to top tier, in addition to them removing the god damn blinding lights after you take a bit of hull damage

Great review as goes for all of the episodes that I watched so far. I own a lot of ships in SC and tried all of them, and I still learn or reconsider some stats or features by watching this.
As for the Gladiator, the word "forgotten" from one of the previous comments nails it. This ship has gotten power crept hard as one of the oldest designs in the whole game. If you want to go for torpedos, Eclipse, Harbinger and also Ion/Inferno are way better as they can do more besides just having torpedos. With even NPCs shooting torpedos down these days, 4xS5 is not always enough to bring down larger vessels, and those ships can do more - Gladiator struggles. On regular missles, you have Talon Shrike and Sabre Firebird that got way more missles of the same size...and I don't even know where to start on regular firepower.
We might get surprised by the Gladiator once CIG takes a serious effort in reworking it, because it is a very cost competitive and versatile package. Before that happens however, this is not a go-to ship.
I don't own one, but I honestly love the Gladiator. It's a beautiful _old-fashioned_ starship. It's not meant to be flown solo, and you'll feel it if you try it, but it's a great little tank with both seats filled. The Eradicator used it as his "Y-Wing" for his Star Citizen Wars vids and he found that with both seats filled, the Gladiator was nearly indestructible. They found it very hard to take them down even when they were trying to blow them up for the video. The one thing I really _dislike_ about the Gladiator is the pilot entry. First, that syle entry always makes me twitch... even before all the vids of people breaking their fingers in their Cybertruck's trunk. Second... exiting in case of a soft death or a crash seems... problematic.
Wouldn't say it's a tank with or without a gunner. A tank to me means it can tank shots. This cannot
awesome review. man can i get your opinion, im looking for a heavy fighter, but not to sure what the best one is, i just wanted something tanky, good dps etc. i tried flying the harbinger, but it feels like medium fighters are more effective then that ship which confused me
They honestly just need it to fly more like a f7.
Since you seem to be repeating the same reviews posted a few months ago, it would be nice to know what the differences are that made you re-visit these ships.
The biggest difference is master modes changing its flight characteristics (speeds, maneuverability) and weapon damage outputs. The way I see it, I want to review ships all over again when big changes like that happen so people know what is currently in the game. I’ll try to throw in some stats about what changed between the two versions.

I agree with 5/10, if not lower. I can't see a reason for ever taking this over a Harbinger.

I think you are being generous with your rating haha. but personally I’d rate it at a 4/10. It’s for sure meant to be a part of a 1-2 combo or fly in like a small strike team escorted by other fighter ships so that they can hit a large target. I think for the time being a nice buff would be to either give it a chunky shield health pool so it can survive longer and maybe add higher weapon capacitors so it can stay in a fight longer. Otherwise if they don’t increase survivability they need to slave the turret to the pilot. I assume the speed profile will never change so I don’t consider that a feasible adjustment
It's a nice ship, but even at double the price, I would rather fly the Vanguard.
Can we add torpedoes to the hurricane and call it a gladiator mk2?
I could see it reworked into a Gladiator mk 2 but then the Hurricane would need to evolve into Anvil's equivalent to Crusader's Ares. Gladiator mk 2 would be thicker, much more like the F7C mk1, bigger, thicker armor, more HP. It would take from the F7M Super Hornet its sliding cockpit and dual seater configuration, and from the original Hurricane its size 5 turret with 4 size 3 guns but remote controlled, just like the Super Hornet. The wingspan would be increase a bit and the wings would fold alongside the fuselage like the Hawk. Thanks to it's two engines and the extra room allocated by its wider, thicker body and cockpit/turret change, it now have a dual power plant configuration, and boast 4 size 1 shields (6,000hp) or 2 size 2 shields (12,000hp) depending on how to balance it, so much power is needed to feed the 4 guns turret's capacitor ! Pilot loadout doesn't change much, unless balancing the ship says it's okay to let the pilot control the turret when no gunner is present, like how it behave on the Super Hornet currently. If enough room is still available, or with the increased wingspan, maybe the Gladiator mk2 could get some extra missiles !
Heavier bird (extra armor, more shields, wide body F7C style, more firepower) overall. I would loooooooooooove this so much !
