Clemens struck out a guy an inning with Greg Maddux's HR/9 rate. I can think of another high K pitcher who limited HRs that well....35% below league average. Thats how you have a FIP- of 71 for his career.
Roger was my favorite pitcher, I didn’t like how he kept denying he took peds, when it was obvious he did. I wish he would have come clean and just admitted he took them. I still think he deserves to be in the H.O.F..
he never tested positive. he was accused of lying on the stand of never taking PEDs and was acquitted of that as well. He deserves the HOF. He was a freak on the mound.

But, to me at least, given the time period and the way steroids were treated back then (basically nobody cared or said anything, fans and media included) it's not some horrible ethical violation that he needs to apologize for. I'm 100% certain if he played his entire career from 2005 (when testing started) he wouldn't have used.
Exactly, never tested positive, adamantly denied before Congress when he had nothing to gain from lying, and the only "evidence" is the testimony from a decade-old conversation in passing with Andy Pettite. Hello, I noticed you mentioned how he rotated well down into foot strike. I have been practicing lower half mechanics and I think I've improved but I tried to do it on the mound rotation into foot strike felt really weird. Do you have any tips on how to transfer it to the mound. I would take any drills. Thanks. I can't throw though because I just got Tj.
The Rocket Man is the greatest pitcher in history...travesty that he (along with Bonds and Rose) are not in the HOF. So many memories, competitor....HOSS!
Side note...When Mike Boddicker was on the Red Sox (1988-90) he taught Clemens how to throw it and use it in different situations. I have some personal knowledge of the situation.
20 K games were insane but i really enjoyed when he singled off norm Charlton of the Mariners in a game in 1996. He had to hit because the Sox lost the DH and the pitcher slot came up to hit which never happens in an AL game
It's also important to note that 98 mph in the 1980's-90's was far different and more impressive than it is now. Using today's radars, you would be looking at consistent 104-105 mph readings.
