Roger Clemens is a true gentleman and a class act !loved it when he signed the kid’s baseball and tee shirt .. that kid will never forget that
As a Yankees fan - I would not call him or ever call him a gentleman or a class act. He had a relationship with a 16 year old while he was married. He had issues off the field - especially during the 1998-1999 off-season by throwing his Toronto Teammates and Management under the bus. And Houston management lamblasted him in the media for the demands he had to be traded to the Houston Astros.
Class act he is not. You know who is a class act ? David Cone. Andy Pettite. David Wells. Mike Piazza. Any one of them over lemons anytime !!!
IF he was so classy - he would never had thrown at Mike Piazza. And he would never had thrown the bat at Mike Piazza in Game 2 of the Year 2000 World Series. I am sure my Mets friends were confused when I was screaming at the TV to throw out roger lemons.

Watching Clemens as a kid on TV was amazing. This guy was unbelievable and belongs with all the baseball greats in the HALL OF FAME!
Such a great competitor, it’s crazy they haven’t put him in the Hall of Fame, such a shame.... This is my first time seeing him in an interview setting, he seems really cool too!!!🙏🏽👍🏽
Nope. He is a cheater - he used steroids. Cool guy ? This guy is a creep. Or a taste to be acquired. Having a relationship with a 16 year old while he is an adult - and married does not inspire being a cool guy.

Hands down one of the best to do it on the field he did alot of great things on the field but I just recently spent a week working for him and he is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met he should be hof for the things he did in his career but what's even more impressive is what he does off the field with all the charity work he does and all the people who he has helped that have been injured everyone from ballplayers to the men and women who stand on a street corner more sports athletes could learn something from Rc one of the greatest on and off the field
Roger. I watched you from Texas to Houston. Every game. Even back in Boston when NESN was just a computer display channel with stats. Thank you for being a gentleman and the biggest competitor
Outside some of my Cardinals favorites -- Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens are my two favorite pitchers. Living not far from Chicago, whenever Nolan or the Rocket would pitch against the White Sox we always tried to make it to the ballpark in the late 1980s and early 90s. Another special memory, when the favorite player of the adult part of my life, Scott Rolen, took Clemens deep to help the Cardinals win Game 7 of the 2004 NLCS. Unfortunately, the Red Sox were a freight train and the Birds had no chance in the World Series.

As a Yankees fan - I hated him being on the team. I was not a big fan of him before he arrived to the Yankees. I hated him after he joined the Yankees. The lowest point I as a Yankees fan came in Game 2 of the Year 2000 World Series when he threw the bat at Mike Piazza. I was screaming at the TV to throw him out of the game. Boy how I wished Mike Piazza would have hit lemons over the head with the bat that was threw at him.
I must have confused the Mets fans in the office after that weekend when I told them how I felt. I always knew as a Yankee fan that this guy was a roid user.

The Hall of Fame needs Bonds and Clemens more than they need the Hall of Fame. The two greatest players of the past 50 years are Bonds and Clemens. Maybe Maddux or Mike Trout (soon) could enter the conversation, but for now Bonds and Clemens are the best since Mays and Koufax.
Guess you never heard of Carl Yastrzemski.
@@jcarlovitch Yaz is not even top 20 possibly. Bonds was better for a decade than Yaz was even in 1967. Maddux/Seaver are closer comps to Clemens however.
Richard Jones your knowledge of baseball is laughable. No ball player has even come close to winning the triple crown since Yastrzemski did it. And did so without steroids
@@jcarlovitch Bonds is #4 in career OPS, the most advanced statistical measure of hitters. Yaz is not close to the top 100. If you are a Red Sox homer, pick Teddy Ballgame at #2 or Jimmie Foxx at #5. Bonds got 8 gold gloves vs. Yaz' 7. Bonds over 3x more stolen bases than Yaz. FYI I was being nice putting Yaz top 20. He'd have trouble being a top 50 all-time player. Also wasn't known as a team player. The 25 Limousine, 25 player era in Red Sox history.

What a great window to The Rocket's world of competition, confidence & love for the game. I was at that WS game where he shattered Piazza's bat & watched Roger shutout the Mets for 8 innings,giving up only 2 hits & striking out 9. The Rocket was "nasty"
As a yankee fan - that was the lowest point of my life being a Yankee fan. That was unquestionably shameful. I was rooting for him to be thrown out of the game - and the rest of the World Series.

It's an absolute joke this guy isn't in the Hall....a complete joke. 80% of baseball fans think he should be in.
Reasons why its absurd to keep him out:
1) statistically speaking....he's had the best pitching career in live ball era history...and it's not really arguable.
2) he was not only a HOFer before the alleged steroid use, but an inner sanctum top 5 pitcher ever. His prime of age 23 to 35 was unreal and probably the best 3300 innings or so ever pitched.
3) the moral arguement. Clemens allegedly used during a time when virtually no one cared about steroids. There was no testing and there was no stigma. It's simply human nature to use an advantage that had absolutely no down side or deterrence. The idea among sportswriters that steroid use = no HOF, simply did not exsist in the late 90s or early 00s, and retroactively applying that standard upon him is nonsense.
4) harold baines, phil rizzuto and countless other players being in the Hall when the best pitcher of the live ball era, and the HR king ( Barry Bonds) aren't makes the Hall look like a joke.
I’ll never forget seeing him pitch as Fenway in 1990 as a 10 year old.
Roger Clemens is legendary. Definitely belongs in the HOF regardless of his critics and who opposes his induction into the hall.
Awesome interview and Q and A....Roger is very well spoken...The only thing I never liked about him is that he never played for my Beloved Cubs....

Clemens should be in the HOF. No question. But he needs to come clean. It's borderline psychopathic continuing this charade while people cluelessly defend him like the guy at 4:35. We went through the same thing with Lance, McGwire, Marion Jones, Sosa, etc.
If I say no to Andy Pettite, A-Rod, David Ortiz, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, then i would say no to roger lemons as well. However, lemons has alot of personal baggage off-the-field antics and bad blood he bought on - all by himself on why he should not be in the HOF.

He's incorrect about Maddux. Maddux for the first 12 or so years hit 92-94 on his fastball. Maybe he's referring to his post atlanta career.
This is one of the finest pitchers of all time. It isn't a proper HOF if Roger Clemens isn't in it.

He did...conditionally.. because he IS a great man and morally sound.
Clemens was ALLEGED by the Mitchell Report to have used anabolic steroids during his late career. Clemens firmly denied these allegations under oath before the United States Congress. The case was then referred to the Justice Department on suspicions of perjury. U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., indicted Clemens on six felony counts involving perjury, false statements and Contempt of Congress. In June 2012 Clemens was found not guilty on all six counts of lying to Congress. And, he NEVER tested positive on a drug test.
Paul wow I never knew that. The way everyone says he used steroids I thought he actually tested positive, not hearsay. And its not Clemens failed the eye test and put on massive muscle overnight like Bonds to give a clear indication

And do you think he really won 2 cy young awards in 1997 & 1998 without the help of steroids when he was in toronto ? Come on. No way does that happen, and no - roger lemons is no one exceptional to have such a thing happen to him. Baseball knew he did steroids and kept it a secret. Just like Barry Bonds. Just like Sammy Sosa. Just like Andy Pettite. Just like David Ortiz. Just like A-Rod. Just like Ryan Braun. Just like Mark McGwire. Some of these guys I like. But they all forfiet the HOF for their involvement and cover up.
I have more respect for Barry Bonds - because he never sold out or called out anyone who was supplying him the steroids. Hank Aaron and Roger Marris are still the Home Run Kings. But at least one can respect Barry Bonds for not calling anyone out compared to roger lemons.

I listened to Mike Piazza just a while ago. And the biggest differences between him and this egomaniac being interviewed ...class, humility, and authenticity!
Almost six minutes into the Q and A it would appear that Roger never answered the woman’s question, as if he didn’t really understand what she was asking.

This is an achelies heal with lemons. Lemons all by himself put a black-eye on baseball. Mike Piazza - class act. I really wish Mike Piazza had hit him over the head with the bat that night.

Full disclosure though - I am a Yankees fan. I am just not a lemons fan. Never had been prior to joining the Yankees. Never liked him when he was on the Yankees. I must have confused alot of my Mets friends when I told them I was screaming at the umpires to throw lemons out of the game - and out of the world series when he threw the bat at Mike Piazza. They probably could not figure out which side I was on during the Year 2000 World Series.

Clemens is a Hall of Famer in most, if not all, professional baseball fans minds.
The interviewer needs to be quiet by interrupting the answers and/or trying to finish Mr. Clemens statements.
If he had only come clean, he would be in the HOF...Same thing with Pete Rose..

This is the thing I don't get.....if he needed steroids so much to succeed then why did he win a Cy Young and have an under 2 ERA with testing in place when he was 41 and 42 years old.
If he did do what McNamee said, and I think he did...I dont think steroids helps pitchers all that much.....its more for hitters.
It primarily helps to recover from injuries, but also adds muscle at an age when it's difficult to maintain. It's illogical to believe that a 42 year old Clemens was better than a 29 year old Clemens. Or that his wife was taking test around that time, but not Roger. Testing is worthless. Lance never failed a test either. Same with McGwire and many others.
Steroids help with all athletic performance, he was using in the years you mentioned.

Roger was the epitome of a Power Pitcher. His downfalls: becoming a traitor by going from the Sox to the Yankees, and juicing.

I thought he was a Hall of Fame pitcher but he blew it when PED drugs came into his picture. He did not have to do it but his mistake has cost him Cooperstown.
The two best players in the 1970s on are Bonds and Clemens, so that doesn't exactly make the Hall of Fame look like a serious measurement of greatness.
