Summary:
This is a terrific document of the group shortly after the 2nd album release. They play the 2nd album in it's entirety as well as most of the first album. It's b&w, but well lit, good audio and every second of it is here. The original lineup (they look so young!) bursting with creativity on their first tour as headliners.
I am sixty four today, and I could cry for the old days like this.
RIP Ricky...Once he was lost they were never the same. Happy birthday Kate

Bought this album on release as a teenager and it STILL sounds alternative and inventive and like no other band. The girls' harmonies still just absolutely slay me.
Yea, I always knew Kate was absolutely amazing, but i never gave Cindy enough credit, she is fantastic too. Only other group that could harmonize like them for me was the Everly Brothers, and they are way before my time.

All the songs from the self titled yellow album and wild planets were all great songs!! Still listen to my b-52s almost daily at work!!!
The guitarist is amazing such a unique tone.
Part of it's that he used Mosrite (pronounced "Moe's Right") models early on. But his tunings, commonly omitting the G and High E strings and using 2 thick B strings in the B and High E positions while tuning those top two to the same note, changed things too.
He's the one responsable for the band unique sound signature

I've just recently rediscovered the B52s...WOW! I can't stop listening to them, especially Wild Planet. I think the band was at their peak of creativity on this album. Cindy and Kate are in perfect synch and are gorgeous. Keith is amazing on drum. Fred's vocals are new wave at its finest. And then of course there's Ricky. My God, his guitar playing would never sound more driving, more creative, more distinct than on Wild Planet.
Can you say heavenly bliss? Kate and Cindy were exactly that. And Ricky is a monster on that guitar. Forever a fan of the B-52'S ♥️

@@bobbennert1132 Yeah, not exactly. Kate wanted to sing since she was a kid, and Ricky and Keith were playing music together for years before the band formed. Cindy was Ricky's sister who sang to music that Ricky would write, and Fred... Got a degree in Forestry, and fronted the band.

I was way too young to see the Bs around this time, but I had people making me tapes of their first few albums and such. I'm amazed that Ricky is seen here playing a double-necked 6/12 string guitar! Normally only associated with the likes of Led Zep, etc. Wild! And he's got his gas attendant shirt on it appears. Poor Ricky.
Shit, never seen Ricky play that double-neck guitar, and I was AT the second time they ever played live in Athens....(??)

Keith was no slouch either. Ah hell, I'll just say it - this song is genius and this is live perfection. DBR and Give Me Back my Man are my fav Bs songs. They were hitting on all cylinders that night. Plus, Talking Heads played at the Cap only three days earlier, 11/4. What a week!

Oh I love the tone of that Mosrite guitar. Raw tone. The neck would fit in my hand well too. (1960s Mosrites were known to have thin necks, some people didn't like that.)
+Austin Lucas Ricky Wilson was one of the most under rated guitarists of all time for me, so innovative and TIGHT.
Dave Caughley I find his techniques inspiring.

BTW, Ricky being underrated is an understatement. Part of the reason why this happened in the first place is he died in 1985, he had no idea what tunings he was using (or did and didn't let on; his guitar tech, Keith Bennett who later became Cindy's husband, knew them though) and the band didn't replace Ricky or release any video from when he was alive up until this concert came about. You can't tell easily on casual listening that Ricky was even playing what's there. I suppose he picked this up from when he played finger-picking guitar; speaking of which, I haven't heard recordings of him playing any of that.
