Y'all in the comments complaining about His recipe, complaining about the okra, complaining about tomatoes. Just make this recipe to your own liking and keep it moving! My goodness!
When you from Louisiana you can not help but complain lol
@@Amarie310 yessssssssss, gumbo is GUMBO.. This is stew at best, why on Earth would you puree the veggies?? No indeed!! And tomatoes?? Back to the drawing board 😳
It's also listed as optional.
@@laroderick9971 okra is not optional ever
@@nosajselrauq9438 I actually was talking about the people that are complaining about it. He listed as optional.
It’s gotta suck to put all the time and effort into these videos and still have ppl talk down. I have made dozens of your recipes. Not only are they fire 110% of the time but you have taught so much and encourage me to cook and to keep trying to get better at it.
Nah it’s gotta suck even more to be the type of person who wastes time leaving negative comments on food videos lol all is well on my end, thanks for the support!
🎯🎯 I absolutely love him and would love to meet! I have tried multiple recipes and NEVER disappointed, in fact I'm still looking for "mirin" for the KFC Im trying next but I did find my "gojuchang" so far lol!
@@MrMakeItHappeni love your recipes. I’m making this right now
@Mr. Make It Happen Man everyone of yo recipes are 🔥🔥🔥
@@qbienemy4663 Q
Everybody’s hollering “no okra,” but the real culprit are those tomatoes. Other than that, this is a 100% legit recipe. That roux was beautiful. I’m also glad to see the filé incorporated into the pot itself. Some people like to leave it to sprinkle in your bowl.
I always add file right at the end.
Lived in Lafayette for 2 years. Loved Cajun food but adding tomato to this smacks of Creole not Cajun
No tomatoes in gumbo!!
You gotta at least cook the slime outta the okra imo...
Whew no rotisserie chicken baby what is you doing…… cook the chicken IN the gumbo no tomatoes no vegetable oil was used this is Cajun not Creole the roux was pretty tho
Like most regional ethnic recipes there’s always going to be variations. Gumbo is most definitely one of those dishes. I was born and raised in New Orleans. My mother is from a little Cajun town called Raceland, Louisiana. She and I make our gumbo differently! She doesn’t make a roux but I do. So, hey, put the tomatoes in if that’s your preference or don’t. This doesn’t make one any more authentic, it’s simply a preference, right? Think about it. Let’s take cornbread as an example. Sugar in your recipe? Inauthentic, some would say, I being one of them. However, I’m sure someone here wouldn’t dream of making cornbread without it! This is a solid recipe and a great starting point for you to experiment and decide how you like it. Personally, I cook the whole chicken and use the cooking water as my base. I pull the meat off the chicken and put it back in the pot. It’s labor intensive but worth it flavor wise. Again, my preference. A quick word about okra. As some have previously mentioned, cooking it separately will cook off most of the slime. I’ve done it in the skillet but it can be done in the microwave as well. Honestly, it’s not gumbo without okra, just soup. File’ is a must which I serve separately as well. Now, get cooking! Cheers everyone!
Cap.
@@bam2xl14 for sure. My roots are in Louisiana and what I've learned is that everyone makes gumbo different. I personally use sausage, chicken, and shrimp and my veggies are diced carrots and celery with a few bay leaves.
I grew up in Arkansas, and while visiting some friends down on the Red River, we had to make a run to their local grocery, and they were selling file’ in baby food jars at the register.
Always use Okra. The word "Gumbo" translates to Okra in English. Its from a West African dish called “ki ngombo”, and is stew like, and contains fish and shellfish and is thickened with Okra. Im born and raised in New Orleans. No Tomatoes! Great addition with the File, a lot of recipes tend to forget about it. I like to sprinkle a little extra on mine when its done. That roux looked beautiful, btw!
So question about the okra. I've made gumbo a few times but I don't think I used okra. Does the okra help with the roux to make more thick too?
@@shaunah.creations9233 No ma'am. Okra usually gets slimy if not prepped correctly. It's really good in certain stews but gumbo (imo) doesn't need okra, you already have alot of flavors in it and don't need okra in the mix
The word gumbo does translate to okra in Africa and it does have orgins there, but gumbo in Louisiana was created by slaves that escaped so they didn't have the same resources as Africa and used what they had. Okra was not a part of that recipe
No
These is facts. Well said
Made your recipe! It is amazing! I did not have the fresh herbs so I just used my cupboard spices! Best gumbo I've ever made. Thank you!!!!!!!!
Authentic Cajun Gumbo Must have Okra! This was another Awesome video Chef!
Awwww man! I would love to make it Cajun but I hate okra 🙁
Thank you for taking the time to do this recipe. My husband and I don’t eat pork, and I’m allergic to seafood, so this was PERFECT!!!
Oh yeah! For me Okra is a must as well as Fìle, to me and my taste pallet these are essential in how I prepare my gumbo's.
Looks delicious! 👍🏾
It looks absolutely delicious 😋! Thank you Matt for all of your mouth watering recipes!
I luv the bloopers😂! Thanks for the Roux 101👍🏿Loooking Gooood, I will be making it happen sometime these week🥣 it is pouring out there😄.
happy Sunday !!! bringing back the south can't wait to have this dish in my kitchen . love the video's .💖💖💖
Thank you for sharing this recipe!and it looks delicious 😋!
These people in the comments need to grow up. Everyone likes different things in their gumbo, it doesn't mean it's the wrong way to cook it
I like okra in my gumbo. I've never made a simple gumbo, always seafood gumbo. This is nice and looks delicious 😋! Happy holidays to you and your family 🎄☃️🎁❄️🎊❗️
As always Matt, your recipes are mouthwatering. I will be making the gumbo on Friday for New Years Eve so the flavors can marinate overnight. Sure hope I don't screw it up LOL. Thanks again for another fabulous recipe.
Happy New Year
BRO!!!....THANK YOU! I only recently "re-found" found my enjoyment of cooking and being from Louisiana, I LOVE gumbo. Each time I tried a homemade version I would burn my roux.....every time. I never thought to mix the ingredients before the heat...but was also trying to use an olive oil. Just the 7 minutes ALONE made me a subscriber.....THANK YOU!
Nice video Matt , looks delicious,I’ll definitely give it a try .. Thank you
Got me sitting here thinking “don’t I have all of these ingredients in the kitchen pretty much?” I’m gonna make this next week with the okra (which is what gumbo means) for sure 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I agree with everyone, that Roux was beautiful. Just love the bloopers at the end lol.
I just made this recipe, and it came out delicious! 😋
Matt you did justice to this sausage and chicken Gumbo. Everything looks great and amazing. I like to cook off the slime off the okra in a skillet with a little vegetable oil before adding it into the Gumbo. This Gumbo looks so good and delicious. Thanks Matt for sharing your Gumbo recipe. It's a winner
🏆🥇🎗️
Food looks delicious as always, but the outtakes is what makes me giggle each time. Happy you include them
Made this last night and it was a great success! My family and I loved it! You made this so easy for me I looked like a pro😂
I did ADD shrimp, green onion and MORE okra
I did NOT add tomatoes or the gumbo file
Thank you!!!❤❤❤❤
Ok MMiH, I have to try this one. You haven’t disappointed me yet and I’m sure this is going to be another banger. Thank you for all you. Until the next one. ✌🏾
Trying out your recipe today and so far so good. Thanks for sharing!
This is about the third recipe for gumbo I have tried and going to be the last one I try because it was ammmmmaaaaazing!! I have found the one! Thank you!!!
Yup, making this New Years Eve! Looks delicious
Looks good, Mr. MIH!! Mouth-watering!!!
Just made this with some crawfish cornbread to go with it...turned out really good. Thanks for another great recipe!! 😁😁
Going to try this today. Keep up the great work 👍
Just got my best of both worlds cookbook. Thanks man!!!
G'moanin Matt and Everyone!!! Its a nice and cold day for Gumbo! That 👀 fabulous!!!
Anytime I want to try something new I look and see if you have a recipe for it first lol. First time I tried gumbo was in Houston at Lost and Found and it was sooo good. I wanna make some. Really want to learn how to make a solid gumbo recipe and this is a great start. Thank you!!
Yup I remember as a small kid my older aunts made it this way with the okra and tomatoes and chicken most people now and days keep it short to each is own both ways are deliciousssss👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
My Go To Man for recipes! Love your channel!
You made the roux part look so easy I always mess it up! I can't wait to try it with this roux. I always try and use the rotisserie chicken for the quick version, but this looks great. I'm going to have to try it with chicken sausage . Thanks once again you have done a great recipe! Love it
Facts!! I was nervous but I'm ready now 😂
LOVE the roux tip!
Something about making the roux is so satisfying for me. Then the aroma when you add the trinity. My lawd! I’m excited to make your red velvet cookies today. Thank you💕
Was wishing I could have reached into the video and grabbed a bowl of that! Looked 🔥!!!
I’m cooking this for Christmas, I cooked them Gumbo Greens 😳The pot was empty when I went in for some 😂everybody was asking what’s the recipe for them Greens, that day it was a old family Recipe 😅 but I sent everyone that matter this site 😅
Thank you because we appreciate great food
One ☝🏽 Love ❤️
I love okra in soup, stews on the side or fried.
I make my Chicken-Sausage Gumbo slightly different; for one I use three types of sausages; Manda's smoked, garlic, and hot sausages browned. I have never tried the Andouille sausage. I also use the chicken thighs only and Shrimp, Louisiana spicy cajun seasonings, the holy trinity, and bay leaves, served with the Mahatma Jasmine Rice. As usual you have done it again, I have learned something new today. The next time I prepared this dish I think I'm going to attempt your recipe. I enjoy your cooking videos and I have learned a lot. Thank You and your Team.
Manda makes a very decent andouille but I haven't been able to find it for a while. Like anything else, there is good andouille and bad andouille out there. Just gotta try a couple and see.
I like to use either Crescent City or Broussards bayou. If you see either of those companies it is a very safe choice.
Making this for the upcoming week. I did chilli this week😋. I love meals like this because i don’t have to cook everyday🥴.
Love okra !! Must try this wonderful recipe! Thank you top chef! Cheers mate!! Cheers 🥂 🥂💖💖🥰
I love making his recipes
Mama said "ain't no gumbo without okra & tomatoes" yum 😋
This recipie is great! Thanks.
You make it look so easy! Love it!
That looks so amazing ❤
I love the okra in my gumbo yet I have fry first to make firm and family loves. Tasty dish I just made and son said Mum you did that.🙌🏽✅
Hey chef happy tasty Tuesday I love gumbo this looks delicious
Great idea on pulsing the veggies
Just found you from Ig I love this definitely going to make this for Christmas I hope my husband likes it
Hey Hey Happy Holidays to you and the Fam🙏🏾I love love your recipes both by yourself and those with AB..question?what do you think about the pre packaged roux's?or should I call them already made?
There are many ready made roux ...some use em some diehards just enjoy making their own. I enjoy the process. But ready made is pretty damn good.
Looks delicious. Thank you Sir I'll add shrimp in my own
Thank you, excellent video!!
Definitely have to have okra! This looks fire, I love tomatoes in mine!!
I tried your recipe today and love it. I doubled up on the amount of okra and it still wasn’t enough for my liking. Next time it’s 3 cups! 😂
I always put way more okra than recipes call for.
Hey Mr make it happen ,looks good 👀and I know it taste better than it looks,I’m definitely making 😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌this recipe great job ,I love gumbo, mmmmmmmm✌️
How did I miss this?....repeat & next weekend 🥘😋
Lots of ignorant comments. He's making a creole gumbo, not a Cajun gumbo. Creole gumbo has tomatoes and okra. Cajun gumbo does not.
Yummy. When I make gumbo I have to make 2 pots. One with okra which I love and a few other people and the other pot without okra cause 2 of my kids don't like the okra. Yes they are weird people lol. Your Roux color is right on point. I'm getting hungry just looking at your footage. I'm from the South so a little kick of spicy is good.
Do not smack me down, but I am Creole - and have always been terrified to make Gumbo, cuz I thought it was a wild process,
Thank you for making it look easy - I am going to make some next weekend. Love the show, by the way. :)
i aint gona lie this turned out awesome. thank you
Hey chef!! I have to say that I love you & AB’s ideas!! I also cook and would love some hints and tips on how to get folk to watch my channel as well. I just do simple meals for folk who think they can’t cook. Love to share and show them that everyone if they really want to can also chef it up in their kitchens ❤ I admire your work!!
My mouth is watering!! Not a fan of Okra, but wouldn’t complain about it either. Just pick it out if you don’t like it!!
"Looking good" man I made your smothered chicken today and I dropped the spoon. God bless you and your family and happy holidays ❤
thank you!
Lookin good and flavorful 😋👌
That looks delicious
I use green onions and Zummo sausage! Looks like a great recipe, thanks for making this available.
You’re the best, thank you.
Buy Kerry Roux ready made from Ville Platt, La. super easy. Just add your chicken stock and seasoning bring to a boil than add chicken than sausage yuuuuuuummmmmmm. I am from the Cajun country have done it both ways.
Happy Sunday!! Definitely okra.
I love "okra" looks delicious!!💯
Oh you showed out like a visiting pastor with this upload this good Sunday! This looks great!!
I'm here for the New Orleans patrol and comments 🤣😭
Also! It looks amazing.
I love💞💞💞 Okra gumbo...lawd I miss my Aunts O-Gumbo!!
I don’t add okra, but I do shrimp, chicken, and sausage
No two people do it exactly the same, and I don’t imagine they all did it the same 100 years ago either. This is pretty close to how I do mine- with okra and tomatoes (more of both). I would never purée the trinity. I didn’t see any garlic; always garlic. I’d skip the chicken and add 1 1/2 lb of shrimp. Seasonings look good- have my own blend. All in all, one of the better recipes on yt.
PS: I have the exact same Dutch oven, same color too!
I've made rues many times, but this is the first time I've seen it made with oil instead of butter and milk. Learn something new everyday. I will have to try that method for sure.
@Angie's ASMR Blond or light roux are made with butter. However, due to the low smoke point of butter & olive oil, the high heat and long cooking time required to make a dark roux would both burn the butter & give the roux an off-putting taste. For dark roux, a high smoke point oil such as grapeseed, avocado, or canola is better.
The roux that you are referring to is a French creamy type that is cooked on low heat and is best for vegetables. The roux that he made is for high heat.
You didn't drop the MIC, you drop the SPOON now you know that was GOOD. I always say YUMMY YUMMY 😋 good for the TUMMY 😋.
Loved everything except the tomatoes. Making this soon! 🤤
And yes I love the bloopers 😂😂
Hey fam, love your channel, love you workin with AB. Help us a bit more with the utensils. I just melted a quarter of my rubber spatula in the roux.
That's why he said to keep stirring. Don't leave your spatula sitting in that hot oil. Besides, the rubber flavor should be saved for a different dish...lol.
👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾Heyyyy Mr. M.I. H. Happy Sunday morning to you. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Anyone ever tried Potato Salad in their Gumbo before? 🔥🔥🔥
Looks delicious...🔥🔥
I like everything you make. You turned me into a half of cook. But damn that roux gave me a hard time lol. I have zero cooking skills and it still turned out pretty good. Thanks
I'm from Louisiana. Some add tomatoes and okra in gumbo and some don't. If you ask 12 La cooks, you'll get 12 different renditions of gumbo. It's not a science. Cheers!
Thank you for this because I’m allergic to shellfish and people’s gumbo always has shellfish in it❤
I was excited to see this for the same reason...I'm allergic to shellfish and seafood
Looks delicious
Lol I literally thumbs up your videos before they even start playing. I have 0 doubt.
"all right guys, meet me in the kitchen, let's make this happen. because why the hell not, Trade mark money shot, say it with me guys, LOOKIN GOOD. We are here for a good time, not a long time"
I'm making that! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
I have never had gumbo but looks good
I like my gumbo without okra. This recipe is perfection in my opinion 🔥🍛
Yummy in my tummy 😋
I'm from the deep south, and this ish look good
