As an experienced cake decorator, one tip I would suggest is adding labels or descriptions (this goes to anyone who is wanting to order a fancy cake). Yes, it may make perfect sense to you, but not everyone sees things the same way. We always have to ask a lot of questions to know EXACTLY what the customer wants. Pictures are awesome and help a ton, but specific descriptions would make it even better :) Of course, using just the photo is a fun part of the challenge. Just to see how both bakeries see your vision. But if you want SPECIFIC things, descriptions are key
Just a suggestion, as a pastry chef, when you draw a picture of a cake you should put side notes that label what things are. The more information you provide the better the outcome will be. People have different ideas of what a picture or colors are.
My god, thank you for saying. I love this channel alot but this sometimes it annoys me but yet again i dont blame him. I sure you can put a fake or candy waffle on a cake, but not an actual one right? Idk.
To be fair to the bakeries, it did look like a chocolate bar. The first thing I thought when I was the waffle was "they're gonna think it's chocolate". I'm surprised none of them used white chocolate though. However I don't understand why none of them got the galaxy-drippings right. That does not seem that hard to make.
I got so stressed watching that and thinking they would guess it's a chocolate bar, probably because of the shadow and also because typically you draw them with 4 squares? Idk*
If he wanted a waffle, a macaron, and confetti cake then he should have stated it in his order...I can't believe a bakery would complete his order without asking him what flavor he wanted the cake?!
In the future, draw a line to an item and write what its supposed to be so that the bakery has an easier time with giving you what you're hoping for! Captioned illustrations are a blessing.
I think the big problem with the design is that he only gave them a picture and no other instruction, that’s why the 5 star one doesn’t have the same kind of galaxy design or the pastries he wanted. If he told them something a little more specific he would’ve gotten something better. But I also know that’s not the point of the video
You should put lines with what you wanted each items to be. Like a key on a map. Galaxy, waffle, macaroon, doughnut...etc... they looked great though, thanks for your video's. I find them very entertaining.
I want to see a head to head competition. 5 Star Bakery against 5 star bakery. 1 star against 1 star. See the best of the best and the "Worst" of the "Worst" Honestly it is really hard to mess up a cake for me so I would never be able to choose a winner, unless it was just really bad. I.E. Plastic, Hair, or anything dangerous like forgotten toothpicks or something. But yes I would totally be here for a head to head bake off video.
As a cake maker/decorator you don’t get a good finish by doing a “thick drip” like you did in your design, it looks lumpy and messy no matter what you use (ganache/ royal icing) agree the drip colour was off, they should have used navy colouring. Gold spots would have had to be painted on because if you tried to splatter it to get a more realistic effect then it would have ruined the white underneath. Overall the 5* cake looks better
The 5 star cake had a wooden dowel in the center of it. These are used to stabilize tiered cakes. Notice how the 1 Star cake jiggled when you moved it? Yeah...dowels prevent that from happening. Dowels also prevent the tiers from collapsing on each other. So the 1 Star cake, though it did not have the “hole” actually should’ve had one. Every professional baker knows you must use dowels for tiered cakes.
*draws yellow dots on blue background* - *gets exactly that* = aw man I wanted a galaxy?? *draws yellow chocolate bar* - *gets normal chocolate bar* = I wanted a waffle!! *draws half a donut* - *gets half a donut* = why did they put half a donut? It looks like someone took a bite 🤨
When he drew the waffle: Me: is that a chocolate bar? Him: its a waffle Me: oh. It kinda look like chocolate bar Him: why did they give me a chocolate bar! I want my waffle
The waffle drawing would’ve looked more like a waffle if only 4 of the shaded ‘square’ things were drawn cause with more than 4 it did remind me of a chocolate bar and since chocolate bars are more commonly requested in cakes it makes sense that the bakeries would assume ‘chocolate bar’ and not ‘waffle’
don't assume that a baker would know everything you draw on your cake. next time, put some words to describe each of the things you draw on your sketch so as the baker knows what you really want. and Probably put a narrative on your email to describe what you want on your cake tiers.
dracocamacho when he says “I pay more and there’s more cake” I don’t think he knows that for works like that, the pricing of the product is almost always related to the skills of the professional working on the cake... the ingredients are the cheapest part to be fair... :(
@@LigiaMuraroNonononn I totally agree. As a pastry artist myself for almost 5 years, the ingredients compose only the least of the total payment (but not totally cheap to be honest as these are also quality ingredients 😅). Labor and skill is a huge factor. Custom cakes would take at least 3 days to create. And more for elaborate ones most esp. wedding cakes. Probably he should get an internship or an immersion so that he would totally understand the process from consultations to the end product. Don't get this wrong though, I like watching his vids. It's just that he needs to meet the bakers halfway most esp. when he sends those sketches via e-mail. I think that would be fair and he would definitely be surprised of the outcome. 👌
it looked like a white chocolate bar. interesting that both didn't use white chocolate though, I mean the color was obvious even if it was meant to be a waffle
Ok i am a baker and if you draw drips on the cake they are most likely going to do a drip cake unless you specify you want it done exactly like your drawing in that case they would probably do fondant Dont be so quick to judge the bakers But i know its for content No harsh feelings Just wanted to state my opinion ❤️
As soon as you drew that waffle I knew they'd think it's a block of chocolate. I'm surprised they both went with milk chocolate instead of white chocolate though.
Do you just send them a picture or do you explain each portion of the cake??? Because the galaxy part might not have been quite as clear. Personally for the galaxy thing I would have used a dark blue fondant cut to the shape you drew on the cake, then marbled it for that galaxy effect with white splatters for stars
crazy how i was around a sec into the video and was skipping the beginning because i thought it was a preview, but no this dude just went straight into the video without an intro! love that
I love this videos!! Just pleeeaase ask for some exotic or just DIFFERENT cakes for the inside :´D They always use the same cake! Seems like that is the cheapest the can use.
You can’t be disappointed at the flavour of the cake if you didn’t request for a specific flavour! Next time, ask for a different flavour. They can’t read your mind
The "waffle" did actually look like a chocolate bar. I thought they would have done white chocolate though. It's because the waffle holes were raised instead of indented.
You should have drawn full squares for the waffle like you did on the ice cream cone. The L like shapes made it look like the squares were popping forward instead of back. The galaxy dripping was very clear. Maybe the bakeries just didn't know how or just misunderstood
It baffles me no clarifications come from bakeries to be sure. I would be mortified if I didn’t meet my clients expectations. You’re always so kind, respectful and incredibly generous. Some of the bakers you hire was so off the grid you still remain sweet. The bird cage wedding cake comes to mind. 😩🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
The difference visually is because the 5 star airbrushed the colors and the 1 star blended colored frosting on the outside. Also, the frosting colors aren’t vibrant enough and their drip isn’t well done.
The waffle did look like a chocolate bar though...and if you didn’t tell them the top was supposed to be galaxy, I don’t understand how they’re supposed to know that 🙈 it’s just blue with gold dots
I actually thought your drawing was pretty good :) although I will admit I thought your waffle looked a bit like a white chocolate bar...but they gave you a milk chocolate bar so still doesn't make sense lol. I think something that would really help would be putting notes, like drawing an arrow to the waffle and writing waffle, maybe write the flavour you want e.g. chocolate 'birthday' cake flavour and strawberry frosting or something. Maybe draw a note to the top cake and write night sky design. That sort of stuff :) Hope you had an amazing birthday regardless of not receiving a waffle haha :P
I mean you did draw the cake where you "galaxy" looks like blue with specks of gold of yellow so if you didnt tell them it was suppossed to be galaxy of course they would make it like that.
It is really difficult to do big drips on a cake, because when the icing drips over the side it clearly just wants to go to the bottom of the cake so the bigger the drip the heavier it is
You know you have a problem when you can immediately tell that those are the white icing donuts from Sainsbury’s on the base and a raspberry one on top.

I thought the waffle did look like a chocolate bar except for the color. I thought they might give you a butterscotch bar (white chocolate butterscotch flavor).

Who else agrees that the waffle looked exactly like a chocolate bar?
Aditi Sarafi yeah but they could hopefully see that it was white so why not include white chocolate?
I thought waffles were round? 😂

Is no one going to notice how Raphael’s drawing skills keep getting better throughout this series? Lol
Marisa Cohen ik he has become an artist he should enter X factor lol XD

I had a feeling your waffle was going to be confused with a chocolate bar, but I thought it would be white chocolate at least.

Your waffle 100% looked like a white chocolate bar. It was because you had the shadow parts on the bottom instead of the tops.

If he wanted a waffle, a macaron, and confetti cake then he should have stated it in his order...I can't believe a bakery would complete his order without asking him what flavor he wanted the cake?!

you should order two cakes both from a 5 star and compare those cuz their interpretations could be way different and the prices and stuff

these videos are so entertaining, but I would love to see you specifically ask for a cake flavor so they stop giving you chocolate or vanilla!
I knew they were going to think it was a chocolate bar but, I figured white chocolate because it was yellow?? Lol
