As a french, I’ve never made a sandwich this way, also ironically the french’s mustard is what we call American style mustard, you need Dijon mustard which is truly french. Also school lunch is generally bad in France, the quality is pretty poor, although, you do get to choose what you eat at the cantine. There’s usually several choices of entrees, cheeses and desserts and something different variations of the main dish ( sometimes you can choose what vegetables you want or if you want fish or meat etc)
In the USA, if we bought lunch, it could be a cheeseburger, pizza, or something like that, with a fruit cup and then a milk of your choice or something like that. If my parents packed me lunch it would be a sandwich like pb&j, bologna and cheese, etc some carrots, some grapes or something like that, and then chips or cookies. Maybe juice box or something.
for the japan one, i dont think it’s unrealistic that they make pretty bentos with a lot of varieties. japanese ppl do eat well balanced meal that they make sure to eat everything, and usually it’s the parents who make them or spouses. calling them anime food is so ridiculous too since anime food is literally just japanese food but cartoon... lol
usually it's the mother. It's really common in Japan that when you're getting married, the woman just left the job to be a full-time mom. And if you refuse some men (usually the most "traditional") would think it's because you dont love him or think he's not worth of the family (you think he cant provides enough money). So usually the mother make a lot of side dishes for her kids and husband in the morning. I get it explain by japanese people ^^'

It's too bad that you represented France by a weird sandwish, I really never seen anyone prep this or packing macarons ! French self serves a meal with a starter (usualy a salad or pâté), a main dish , one dairy (cheese or yogurt) and a desert. I think you'd find this nice to try
I've been living in France all my life and never seen such a sandwich. In schools we usually get : - A starter like salad, paté, a soup or some sort of quiche - A main course with usually a carb, a protein and vegetables - For desert always a dairy like yogurt or cheese + A sweet desert like fruit, a cake, some tart etc - The meal is usually accompanied by a tiny individual baguette (a baguette bun). And it's not really a thing to bring your own meal from home when you're a kid, either you would eat the school meal, or you would go home for lunch. (At least it's the case in Paris where I'm from, maybe it's different in small cities)

im from kuwait and everyone just has lunch at home. we do have breakfast at school though and its usually just a sandwich and snacks for most kids since public schools dont have a cafeteria
I’m from Bahrain, we eat breakfast before we go to school, or on the way . We have a short break, Students use it to eat and play in the yard. and most of the them bring a sandwich with them , and the others buy some snacks from the cafeteria which basically just chips and candies 😂 not the healthiest . And we have the lunch at home after school .
I went to school in UAE and almost everyone got there food from home, usually a cheese sandwich in traditional bread and a juice box of some sort, some kids also got veggies like cucumbers or baby carrots or even an apple, for snacks it’s usually a bag of chips or some biscuits/crackers. Most school canteens get freshly baked cheese or zaatar manakeesh from a bakery and that’s what you would buy if you did not pack your food, also juice boxes or flavored milk, bags of chips or popcorn.
As a Filipino person, the most basic school lunch is literally sausages, we call them hotdogs and is red in color, and rice. Just put it in a microwaveable box and if you get banana ketchup with it you’re basically rich or gifted.
@@iceperkF Oh god, where do I start. It doesn’t really taste like bananas but it also doesn’t taste like normal tomato heinz ketchup... It’s more sweet, if you already tried the Jollibee spaghetti, specifically the sauce part, it has banana ketchup. That’s one of the reasons why Filipino spaghetti is sweet. I hope you understood what I said...
@@greysonphoenix3442 nah. So banana ketchup is literally just ketchup made of bananas. It came with its onw history about a grandma who doesn't like the tartness of tomato ketchup (or something along that lines) and made sweet and a bit spicy ketchup using ripe bananas (since our country produces a lot of bananas) and a few chosen spices. It's the best dipping sauce for anything. Not banana pudding

I’m from 🇮🇳 India We have alottt of variety of food in the country Around 30 states and each has different cuisine But I can speak for myself, I’m from the state of Maharashtra This is what Most of the Maharashtrian kids would get for lunch at school! 1-2 chapati Portion of freshly cooked vegetables in gravy form or dry form with condiments Salad- there’s alot of variety but cucumbers and tomatoes topped with lemon and some spices is the most common A portion of seasonal fruit for dessert Rice and daal ( optional) Achaar or papad or namkeen (option) I never had rice in tiffin as it made me sleepy! This is the basic lunch box which I would get daily But 2 days a week my mom would give me something different than the regular! So it was like- Pasta, noodles, pav bhaaji, dosa, utthappa, paratha, sandwiches, fried rice and much more It’s definitely not practical for u rapha! But all Indian moms prepare this in an hour and also go to office/ work after that! Hats off to all working mums!

In Singapore, all schools have at least one cafeteria we call canteen or tuckshop. Students will queue up to buy their favourite food and drinks during breaks.
Same thing here in Australia, we also have a canteen or ‘tuck shop’. No such thing as a cafeteria unless it’s at a university or at a tertiary prep campus like at TAFE. No school supplied lunches!
I feel like school lunches that kids bring in the USA differ a ton! Some kids would bring leftovers in thermos. Others had a typical sandwich with a bag of chips, fruit and then something sweet (candy or like a little debbie). Then the kids that would always get "hot lunch". and then of course combos in between.
It's the same everywhere, other than food purchased at the school/provided by the school, people's lunches are the same. School provided lunches will vary based on ethnic cuisine and what people like (my school cafe had everything from mac n cheese to salads to spring rolls with different options each day, Friday was a favorite because it was Fry-day aka we could get deep fried wedges with sour cream and deep fried samosas and spring rolls)
Right as an American mother my kids will pack leftovers from dinner. They get free school lunches but sometimes they don’t like what’s on the menu. So they will pack a lunch
in italy in schools you mostly get pasta, rice or gnocchi, then meat (rarely fish or other protein) with a veggie side dish or fruit at the end of the meal and bread can't miss having pizza is not very common, they usually serve it on friday like once or twice a month
im from india and we usually eat chappati/roti which is basically a flatbread....we either make it into a roll by adding potato/cauliflower/any kind of sabji(veggies)....or we eat it with some kind of curry.....another type of common lunch is different types of rice...but if its plain rice, then its usually mixed with some kind of liquid like rasam/sambar...or even with curd..and apart from the rice we also include a side-dish which is again a mix of a bunch of veggies...I'm sure you can find a bunch of this stuff online...but the problem is it really varies depending on which part of India ur from...also..as far as non veg food goes...i have no idea cuz I'm a vegetarian XD...also...most schools don't allow you to bring non-veg...cant wait to see ur indian lunchbox!lots of love!
As a Brazilian, I can say this was an unusual selection. Brazil kids' lunch is usually ham& cheese sandwich, cookie or chips (or both), a fruit (usually banana, apple, grapes, tangerine or pear) and a boxed juice.
I think that would be considered a “snack” or “easy lunch”. A real Brazilian lunch served by the school would basically consist of rice, beans, beef/chicken/fish, salad, then juice and a dessert (normally a fruit). Another option would be pasta in a tomato sauce, sausages, tuna salad, juice, and dessert. At least I was served with that in school. In Brazil there is basically a funny rule given to schools that a plate of food should have at least 5 different colors. That basically brings a variety in a plate of food.
@@thaisodor3660 Agree! I mean what parents would pack for kids is usually more like a snack. Full meals are served at full-time schools and are exactly what you said: rice, beans, etc.
Brazilian here! 🇧🇷 Well, I particularly never brought a omelet to school, but it seems a good idea. Haha. In my school days we bought our lunch at school and we could choose some fried savory, it’s hard to explain, in portugues we call it “Salgado” (my favorite “coxinha”). But it is for some schools, particular ones mostly. Most of public schools have a healthier lunch, and it’s free, with rice and beans (Brazilian beans are the best in the world - sorry Mexico, yours are good but it is too spicy!), some meat and salad too. But they have too many variety to cite. 🥰🥰 Love your channel!
Exactly... I would say the “Salgado” it’s considered a snack, not really a meal. But a real Brazilian lunch would consist of the typical rice, beans, beef/chicken/fish and salad with some juice and then a fruit for dessert. Very common in public schools
I'm curious, do you think that was actually lime juice in the cup? The fruit looked green like a lime but the juice looked more like what I am used to orange looking like. Was it an unripe orange or do you have a different citrus fruit i have never heard of?
I would love to see you trying the Spanish lunch in one of your videos. In Spain almost all students eat "bocadillos" for lunch. It's a sandwich made with French bread and charcuterie. It's usually made of: chorizo ham and cured cheese spanish omelette and cheese french omelette butter and sugar butter and jam nutella But some students prefer to eat yogurt, fruit, cookies or nuts for lunch. Oh, and milkshake or juice too.
In Thailand, for lunch we would have just normal rice and curries type of situation, it could just be plain white rice with some soup like massaman(red curry) or green curry. With a side of meat stir fry like pad krapaw, pad kar team or eggs dish like fired thai omelet or crispy fried egg. This whole food is called Kaw Rad Keang ข้าวราดแกง and it is typical for student and worker to get it at lunch time.
Well, we don't bring lunch to school in Sweden. Its made in a school restaurant. But it's usually something like Fish with tarragon and lemon seasoning and potatoes or Ikea style mashed potatoes and swedish meatballs. That's whats today and tomorrows servings in my hometown at the school.
@@lauren148148 Well, it does taste pretty much like that in the school cafeteria/restaurant/food diner/canteen, some schools have even better food though. But yeah, sometimes the school doesn't have their own school restaurant, then they get a food stamp so they can eat at a local restaurant.
I live in Poland and tbh we usually don’t do anything fancy for school lunches. Most people just bring a simple sandwich with butter and tomato/cucumber or ham and cheese. I try to eat something different every day so my lunch usually has some sort of yogurt in it (most of the time vegan or lactose free), simple salad (lettuce, cucumber, chicken breast, corn etc), something sweet (most of the time it’s a fruit but sometimes I will bring a chocolate bar or cookies), a bottle of water and an energy drink cus I tend to fall asleep in class

Square pizza, and mashed potatoes with some type of meat gravy on top. Those are the two school lunches I remember the most. Home to school, a ham or turkey sandwich, a bag of cookies, and enough change to buy a milk at school
I don't think the French one is the most authentic, for a sandwich we would use baguette for bread, and most popular filling is paté with pickles or butter with ham and sometimes cheese and a bit of salad, with a fruit and a yogurt
I’ve never saw a school lunch look like that in America. And a wrap without sauce of some sort is boring. A more accurate lunch could include a sandwich of some sort, chips, and a cookie or something. Or maybe even just buy a lunchable lol.
In Brazil most of particular schools have classes in the morning or in the afternoon, so the students don’t do lunch at school, at public school it’s the same, but they serve lunch in the middle of the morning or afternoon instead of snacks, what they serve it’s similar to Italy, they serve some salad or vegetables, rice, pasta or potatoes, beans and a protein, as desert they have fruits.
Indian lunch We get half burnt rice, daal, paneer dish or spicy potatoes if we are lucky, a green vegetable dish and a sweet/fried snack which can range from fresh mangoes and traditional sweets to fried eggplants and fried potatoes (not "fries")
Yesss, they serve the Korean lunches just like that at schools here in Korea! 🥰 Also.. The rice cakes you're referring to as tteokbokki aren't tteokboki but tteok! Tteokbokki is a spicy dish with rice cakes and fish cakes. Anyways, the tteok and sausages thing you made is very different from what it actually should be but glad you still liked it🤣
I know from a korean exchange student that it’s usually like a buffet and you go doen the line picking items and you are charged per item so if you have a decent budget you can fill up your tray but the items are very discounted for the students anyway

That’s definitely not what we eat in France Macarons are super expensive and not that easy to find here, at least if you want good ones, and this yellow mustard yuck… nothing better than real Dijon mustard, it is not sweet like this one but very flavorful, spicy and vinegary

I’m think in the American school lunch she served her kid lima beans, not edamame ;) Ps, I would love to see Canada included in the next school lunch video!! In a Canadian school lunch you can often find plant-based options like chickpea sandwiches, broccoli and grape salad, baked tofu, sushi, or cheese with crackers and cranberries and nuts.
Went to the Philippines for my arts degree, lunch was pretty much laissez faire. Now, I went to a top college (De La Salle - CSB) from 2014-2018, so the system is you buy a card or stub for around $20, which usually lasts a week depending on how much you eat. The options for food is so many, there are a variety of viands for filipino, asian, European, and American options you also have different options for deserts, sides, and breads. They also put the calories and macros per serving. Pretty cool. Not sure about other institutions though. If you're wondering about why the food is affordable, keep in mind that the standards of living here os really low. People get paid per day with a minimum wage of $10 per day; not hour. So consequently, consumable goods are priced very low too, unless you only buy imported options, then on that case that would be the same price from ots country of origins + importation tax.
I'm from Poland and we just bring a sandwich or some pastry so nothing too interesting 😅 most of the canteens are only in primary schools and food is disgusting no choice and kids don't want to eat it😂
Actually, in Brasil is not very common to take lunches to school! I was an English assistant in French primary schools in 1999 and I'm guessing the reason you ended up with a University student's lunch is that from what I saw, school pupils in primary and I think secondary school, all eat in the canteen if they don't go home for lunch. When I was there they got a 3 course meal every day (in primary, the rule was they had to eat at least 2 of those courses).

@@abbyunicorn5019 yes, either allergies or any diatery restrictions. I ment that bringing your own lunch isn't like the "usual thing to do" For the majority of kids
I would have liked to see something from Africa, the Middle East, Australia, the Pacific Islands and the Caribbean
In Australia, everyone brings their lunch with them.
im from kuwait and everyone just has lunch at home. we do have breakfast at school though and its usually just a sandwich and snacks for most kids since public schools dont have a cafeteria
And we have the lunch at home after school .
in Syria we have canteen where we buy manakish or snacks but we bring sandwiches from home too because we have two or three breaks
Banana ketchup??? Please explain this 🤔 cause that sounds crazy
Banana ketchup?? Like... banana pudding?
@@greysonphoenix3442 nah. So banana ketchup is literally just ketchup made of bananas. It came with its onw history about a grandma who doesn't like the tartness of tomato ketchup (or something along that lines) and made sweet and a bit spicy ketchup using ripe bananas (since our country produces a lot of bananas) and a few chosen spices. It's the best dipping sauce for anything. Not banana pudding

We have alottt of variety of food in the country
Around 30 states and each has different cuisine
But I can speak for myself, I’m from the state of Maharashtra
This is what Most of the Maharashtrian kids would get for lunch at school!
1-2 chapati
Portion of freshly cooked vegetables in gravy form or dry form with condiments
Salad- there’s alot of variety but cucumbers and tomatoes topped with lemon and some spices is the most common
A portion of seasonal fruit for dessert
Rice and daal ( optional)
Achaar or papad or namkeen (option)
I never had rice in tiffin as it made me sleepy!
This is the basic lunch box which I would get daily
But 2 days a week my mom would give me something different than the regular!

Pasta, noodles, pav bhaaji, dosa, utthappa, paratha, sandwiches, fried rice and much more

The school lunch is usually horrible tho
It's the same everywhere, other than food purchased at the school/provided by the school, people's lunches are the same. School provided lunches will vary based on ethnic cuisine and what people like (my school cafe had everything from mac n cheese to salads to spring rolls with different options each day, Friday was a favorite because it was Fry-day aka we could get deep fried wedges with sour cream and deep fried samosas and spring rolls)
where i live its usually a ham or peanut butter jelly sandwich with a capri sun or water or a salad or a i r LOL
Right as an American mother my kids will pack leftovers from dinner. They get free school lunches but sometimes they don’t like what’s on the menu. So they will pack a lunch

having pizza is not very common, they usually serve it on friday like once or twice a month
im from india and we usually eat chappati/roti which is basically a flatbread....we either make it into a roll by adding potato/cauliflower/any kind of sabji(veggies)....or we eat it with some kind of curry.....another type of common lunch is different types of rice...but if its plain rice, then its usually mixed with some kind of liquid like rasam/sambar...or even with curd..and apart from the rice we also include a side-dish which is again a mix of a bunch of veggies...I'm sure you can find a bunch of this stuff online...but the problem is it really varies depending on which part of India ur from...also..as far as non veg food goes...i have no idea cuz I'm a vegetarian XD...also...most schools don't allow you to bring non-veg...cant wait to see ur indian lunchbox!lots of love!
As a Brazilian, I can say this was an unusual selection.
Brazil kids' lunch is usually ham& cheese sandwich, cookie or chips (or both), a fruit (usually banana, apple, grapes, tangerine or pear) and a boxed juice.
Pensei exatamente a mesma coisa.
@@thaisodor3660 yes. Different from most countries, our lunches are whole meals. We eat lunch like we eat dinner. We don't have sandwiches or snacks
I'm curious, do you think that was actually lime juice in the cup? The fruit looked green like a lime but the juice looked more like what I am used to orange looking like. Was it an unripe orange or do you have a different citrus fruit i have never heard of?

chorizo
ham and cured cheese
spanish omelette and cheese french omelette
butter and sugar
butter and jam
nutella
But some students prefer to eat yogurt, fruit, cookies or nuts for lunch.

A very long time ago I used to buy in school shop sweet bread (słodka bułka z serem) and to drink Kubuś (malinowy). I lived on that!
It was orange juice lol! In tropical areas oranges mature inside while the outside is green!

I'm wondering if the 'tomato' in the Japanese lunch was actually a pickled plum, I think it's called umeboshi.
No. Umeboshi looks like a prune. A dried plum. All wrinkly. That was a nice round plump and red tomato.
I don't think the French one is the most authentic, for a sandwich we would use baguette for bread, and most popular filling is paté with pickles or butter with ham and sometimes cheese and a bit of salad, with a fruit and a yogurt
for america he could have just slapped a lunchable on the counter and been done 😭😂😂
Nailed it!

Went to school in Ecuador for a couple of years... Lunch sucked 🤣
From Norway. We dont have school lunch. We bring our own. Normaly bread or something

When I was there they got a 3 course meal every day (in primary, the rule was they had to eat at least 2 of those courses).
