Wow...those criticising this video for being 'low budget' and 'badly directed' seem to be oblivious to the fact that it was made in 1981 and was very high budget and extremely innovative for the time (as was the whole of the Physical videoalbum). And it's STILL better than 99% of the music videos made today. Great song, too.
Big fan of this song and that album and considering the huge success of the album and the craze it created, it's absolutely ridiculous that this album has not yet received a deluxe remastered release! This single was actually released in January of 1982 in the UK and in April of 1982 in the USA. MTV was launched on August 1st 1981.
Thomas Hutchison Yes, a proper remaster would be great. I'm hoping for a Deluxe Edition with a bonus DVD of the videoalbum, and some unreleased tracks! She apparently recorded a demo of a John Farrar song called 'I Paralzye' around this time. Cher eventually recorded (and released) it in 1982. I'd love to hear the ONJ demo, if it exists...
"Physical" from late 1981 was a pioneering music video featuring all the songs from the album. "Landslide" has always been one of my favorites. Olivia looks stunning!

This was one of my favourite of Olivia's songs.....good ole days and brilliant 80s MV.... RIP Olivia and thank u for giving some tunes that ill never ever forget, that reminds me of how good my childhood really was..... 😭 ❤️
I love how music taste is passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother was born the same year as Olivia and had the Physical album. I have a distinct memory of this song being played loud by my mother on a Sunday morning whilst she was doing the laundry and preparing the Sunday lunch. Now here I am loving this song and playing it whilst I do jobs for my parents. RIP Olivia. ❤
Just heard the sad news that Olivia has died. Landslide, Sam, & Magic are among my favourite tracks, and really enjoyed Olivia in Grease. RIP Classy Lady, and thank you for the music and films
I HONESTLY LOVE HER !!! I ALWAYS HAVE ! Watching this today made me feel 12 years old again. I was honored to be able to finally see her in person last year, and I have to admit, when she walked out on stage I really, really thought I was leaving the auditorium on a stretcher. I couldnt speak, I was frozen, the tears were wanting to come out but I was so amazed that after 31 years of following her (since I was 7) I was actually looking at her ! It was an AMAZING night to say the least.
Earl, I, too have loved this woman since age seven. Going on fifty-one years now. We drove by a small club in Portugal where she was going to play the next night. It took me decades to see here live. She's been my favorite singer the first time I heard her on the radio. The crush came soon after. Took my family to see her. Sent her a dozen roses and a card backstage before the show. She has given my life so much joy with her music, acting, television, and specials. My musical fantasy, and they could be in their eighties, would be to have Olivia sing in one ear, and Ane ( Agnetha ) and Frida from ABBA sing in the other.
Yep the good old days, NO Social media at all, no phones, just records and cassettes and magazines and watching Video Hits or Countdown to see her latest song, and this was very special to see Matt in this who she married and she looks so in love….those were the days😂❤

I remember by sisters and I had a VHS with all her videos made for the Physical album - we would watch it all the time. This song and video was one of my favs. So sad that ONL is gone. Loved her! Hard to see so many icons from my childhood leaving this world. RIP, sweet lady.
To be honest, with Olivia songs, front and center, it's always her extraordinary vocals, and her beauty. But to be honest, from day one, Olivia has been surrounded by some of the very best in the music industry. You don't get quality playing and production from just anybodies.
OMG ...what can I say except that Olivia is the most talented woman in the world. I have loved her since I was like 8 years old and I still love her 30 years later. I think that says it all!!!!
Her soon to be husband is in this video also. She’s gorgeous (and talented) and he is handsome. This video brings me back to my early teen years. It was breakthrough at the time. Great times.

God how I wish they'd deluxe the Physical album with a remastered DVD/Blu Ray of the video album this is from. I still remember the opening with her doing sexy stretching exercises on the beach. And surely there were some outtakes from the recording sessions too? What an era!!! Deserves to be celebrated. Landslide is my favourite cut from that album. Great video too. Matt looks so damn hot.
@@sugarditch I can't understand why when so many artists have reeased their entire catalogue on CD thiat this has not been the case for ONJ. I don't think that many of her albums are available.
“Physical” did get a remastered version a couple of years ago, at least on vinyl. As for the videos, Universal Music may not even have them anymore; she was listed as one of the victims of the Universal Music fire. But if UMusic does have then, now would be a really good time; if I remember right, this is “Physical’s” 40th anniversary.
Only an American would think that! This video and song is clearly influenced by all the British music of that time, the director of the video is the same as that of some human league videos, duran duran or even queen.
Judging this video by production standards of today is moot, back in the day Olivia's Physical Video special was cutting edge pushing the envelope and shaping the art form for new generations of artists oh and yes it won a Grammy.
Absolutely! We bought the RCA video disc when it came out. This was before DVDs and it was absolutely amazing. You could pause the video and it was crisp and clear on slow motion as well. It was one of the first video discs to hit the market and cutting edge technology at the time when compared with VHS and even Betamax. The album itself was diverse in musical styles with slow dreamy songs and edgy songs like this one, as well as the funny Physical. It's sad that the only one most people seem to remember is the title track. The rest of the songs were so much better. Make A Move On Me, Silvery Rain and Carried Away were my favorites. This was no low-budget production by any means. Sure, it may look a bit silly by today's standards but one has to remember that MTV was still in it's infancy when this came out. New concepts and animation for music videos were just beginning to be explored in the early 80s. The 'Physical' video album from 1981 paved the way for many others who followed, including the critically acclaimed Take On Me video by AHA (1985), Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer (1986) and even Michael Jackson's Thriller (1982). Solange used some of these retro styles in the video for her 2008 song 'I Decided'.

I was big fan Olivia. Loved her music
I love ONJ...always have and always will!
She is still performing and touring. She's done three albums in the past twelve months, and released a great live DVD!
I remember 30 years ago this month I saw that video and others on ABC. It brought memories.
She took my heart, it was a landslide... love ya Liv x
