Everything you said about Patti - yes!! She's such a gem of a human. We never get out what we want to say when meeting people we admire that much. I met her at a book fair and she told me.she was buying a sketch of Baudelaire for a friend as a gift - which feels so very her.

I really enjoyed the Employees and really enjoy raw and interesting and honest books and novels about motherhood. I just finished Rachel Cusk's A Life's Work and loved it. I'm a mother of two kids five years old and younger - and the non-sentimental perspective is VERY validating for me. Also - I'm just gonna go listen to Horses now. xoxo
I couldn't agree more about patti smith! love love love her, such a beautiful and special soul, I also feel that deep connection with her that I can't really explain🥲 I feel something like that with you too! 💜 but I hate you right know because you are the one that gets to use the scarf, you have the patti-power now!!!!!

Patti Smith is my patron saint. I have been in so many situations where I could speak to her / ask for a photo / get an autograph. For twenty years, I always restrained myself and "played it cool." I finally worked up the nerve to speak to her and get a selfie at the New York International Antiquarian Book Fair. (Not a plug, but I also recorded the panel discussion that she participated in. The vid is up on my channel.) I have so much respect for her and I'm glad that it wasn't as cringey as I always imagined it would be. I'm happy that you also had the chance to meet her and had the opportunity to tell her what she means to you. Are you planning on attending the event at Symphony Space in June?
