followed a recommendation of an internet pal to your channel, and I love your energy and the books you read and how you talk about them <3
What a treat! You guys and Sophie! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i know filming on your phone is a hassle but i looove all the little clips in between! also hi jacob <3
thank you for speaking the truth about how bad the europa editions covers are 😭
You have me so hyped for I Who Have Never Known Men! I was already planning to pick it up soon but hearing you talk about it made me want to start it immediately. And you are wonderful at talking about books :)
I Who Have Never Known Men was the first book I read this year and I still think about it all the time. So beautiful and I cannot get over it. Especially when someone knew reads it and makes me wanna reread all over again! Definitely a book you want to read again for the first time❤️
The way I need that notebook lol pls let me know what it's called! also, a fall/wintery book rec for you to sink your teeth into: Rebecca by du Maurier! she's perfect
Loved seeing you and Ohad with Sophie!!
It was the best time!
oh my goodness! i just found this same book at my local free little library and grabbed it so excited to read
omg what an incredible gem to find!!!!!!
I loved I Who Have Never Known Men and I looooved your thoughts on it. You always have such wonderful bookish thoughts and insights into your reading. Your notes and thoughts on The Anthropologists showed that again. Ps. Loved the glam and am desperate to watch your film.
What a strong novel. It doesn't leave me! Oh sweet Simon, thank you for your support. Love you.
completely sold on I Who Have Never Known Men! sounds like a wild ride i also use the same salt + stone deo and i love it!!! hope u r too <333
it is really such a strong novel! would love to hear your thoughts if you read it. I have to say the deo smells like heaven but definitely doesn't work for me. lol.
This is one of my favourite novels as well.
so great.
ha! you beat me to posting :) i underlined the same passage about in the harpman 💔
oops :) yes, that passage just stays in my mind.
I’m such a big fan of I Who Have Never Known Men. 🥰🥰🥰. Quite an extraordinary experience….truly. Daily one of the top reads of this yr & I haven’t stopped thinking about it. Congratulations on your film (!!).
thank you! Truly an experience. I am also constantly thinking about it days after finishing it.
I like how you called the painting by Jan Davidsz de Heem Flemish because he created it in Antwerp haha
I miss the old divadarlingchic videos so much 😭 I went to rewatch for nostalgia and felt sheer devastation that they were all gone!!!
This haul is *chefs kiss*! I loveddd The Anthropologists and I'm currently reading The Coin and it's great! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on all of these!
Ooooh, I’m thrilled you’re reading and loving I Who Have Never Known Men, it’s one of my favourite books of this year. I must, must, must read Eva Baltasar. I need to get to Real Estate now I know there is more non fiction coming. I just read August Blue, with lovely Nathan, not my fav Levy, I think Swimming Home remains my favourite. Sending all the apartment luck vibes!
Ok, I’m definitely bumping Crash up my list!
‘there’s a little bird here’ 🥲
can always count on you for a sexy stack of books. v v curious to hear your thoughts on Crash. it's quite a strange one and stopped reading it as a novel at some point and more of a long form poem. if you do get a chance, Cronenberg's adaptation of the movie is a fun companion piece with that cool n sexy 90s feel.
Love the sound of all of these. I’ve added the anthropologists to my wish list. I have Mary Oliver’s Dog Songs but am saving it for when I need some soul food!
you look great. america is treating you well
this is such a good list! i think the first 5 or 6 books were directly plucked from my list of beloveds and must-reads. i would like to borrow the anthropologists and the coin from you pls... body work is such a good book idea for ohad! i want all of us to chat about it :)
Bring on the dystopian and the poets! After my own heart with the Harpman and Boulder….yes 🥰🥰. Oh I loved to be reminded of the Deborah Levy. I’m sending all the good good apartment vibes 😍
sending good vibes for the apartment hunt!! i really enjoyed the material even though i’m not into comedy either, i feel like it’s more about the relationships between the characters than anything. i’ve never seen a copy of the didion play, i just reread the memoir and would be so interested to read the play too!!
good luck on the apt hunt!!! i hope you find something soon!!!!! the big strand really overwhelms me!!!
As a native Catalan speaker it always makes me so happy to see Catalan literature on Booktube outside of Spain! ❤ I also loved Boulder, one of my favourite books, listened to the Catalan audiobook version and it worked so well but I want to buy it to reread it again and take notes. A Spanish book/memoir I can recommend on being trans in the Madrid of the 80s is Bad Habit by Alana Potrero, the best book published in Spain in 2023, in my opinion
stealing this book reco!
Maybe you would like to give Don de Lillo's short stories a try? I would recommend The Angel Esmeralda as a good collection.
adding this to my tbr! would love to know what DeLillo's worlds look like in the short form!
Hello from France!! Beautiful haul Ben- can’t wait to hear your thoughts about them!☺️🫶
stunning haul as usual ⭐intrigued with crash by ballard, looking forward to your thoughts about it also would love to see a deborah levy video from you ben, i don't know where to start from her works ~
Crash is strange and brilliant. Definitely recommend watching the film adaptation by David Cronenberg if you haven't seen it already its super evocative and atmospheric :)
My wallet will not appreciate this…I’m always influenced by your reading lists😅
Lol I feel that 😊
ur cool
that's not sarcastic lol
we need more outfit vlogs 🖤
Always loving your vibe, Ben
Wow, you have totally sold me on "A flat place" with that description of having a bodily experience in regards to the writing !! small correction in regards to Fleur jaeggy: she is swiss, not swedish ;) I found her book "Sweet days of discipline" exquisite, it is very short so if you are in the mood to try her again, I highly recommend it !
new york looks great on you! glad it worked out :)
Oooh I’ve just started If Only. That opening scene. It’s a good one! We love Kathryn Scanlon!! Agreed regarding Aug 9 Fog.
yayyy for some amazing books!! i’ll be picking up if only soon, it’ll be my first hjorth!! a flat place also sounds super intriguing
I read A Flat Place after your last video, not something I would usually pick up but you inspired me, and I'm so glad! I loved it.
I Am the Brother of XX was my first Jaeggy and i did NOT like it at all. without knowing it, it wasn't until years later that i returned to her with Sweet Days of Discipline that i enjoyed a whole lot more. i think you might get along with that one! it swims in the same fluid prose, but it's a lot more grounded. i need to give State of Paradise a go! it sounds weird and wild!!!
Looove that cover of If Only. I haven’t read any Hjorth and really want to. I have Will & Testament on the shelves, I think it’s that one. Ha. I loved A Flat Place too, what a wonderful book!
Simon, I enjoyed Will & Testament for its uncomfortableness if that makes sense! 😂
My New York girl!!!? I’ll be there in October let’s kick it 👁️👄👁️
Love you back in nyc. the Lauren van den berg sounds really interesting
i also need to read more hjorth
Missed you but never apologize for life happening, no pressure 🖤
I *will* be picking up at least 3 of these reads to the chagrin of my wallet😅🫠
i loved the second storyline of this video..starring Jacob. I knew he will eventually take off the cone and the thrill was if and when you’ll realise it 😁 very funny!
the urge to delete and erase hits me daily. its a lot being exposed to everything on the internet whilst also allowing yourself to be perceived by others on the internet. it is definitely a balancing act! the internet has brought very beautiful people into my life-including you!-and gives space for expression. sending you love!!
