Hello bookworm! I am in need of booksih friends too! I have moved to Sri Lanka away from the UK and I have 2 small children and work so don't have time to set up my own channel. But I do read all the time and woud love more kindred spirits to share my passion with. Mathilda was one of my gateway books and I remember dropping the library copy in the bath and it went all mouldy. As well as Enid Blyton! I hope you are settling into your new home and finding lots of companionship from those second hand bookshops. My current favourite atuhor is Elizabeth Gaskell and i have saved Wives and Daughters for a time when I can really enjoy it. Really hope you are doing OK. xx

@@user-ut7yp6vg5d 🐛Hello, bookworm! That's a big move! How are you faring? I know how difficult it can be to readjust after such a drastic move. How do you like Sri Lanka? Was it work that took you there? Or family?
Matilda is one of my all-time favorite books. It's nice to meet another fan. ☺The Ramona books by Beverly Cleary were also childhood favorites, along with R. L. Stine's Goosebumps books.
I've been in my new place for about six months now. I've met some of my neighbors (very nice people!), and I've found some beautiful walking trails. Yesterday, I finally ordered a proper couch and bought some new clothes, visited a few bookshops and snagged a new book. The trees are starting to bud leaves again, and flowers are popping up, turning their heads toward the sun. As of now, I feel very positive about my new place.
I'd love to know your name and to hear more about your bookish journey and your new life in Sri Lanka. You're welcome to comment here, or you can DM me on Goodreads where we can chat more (the link to my GR page is in the description box).
Wishing you a wonderful rest of your weekend. Cheers!

Hello, bookworm Hannah! I absolutely loved this video. You speak so beautifully, and with such passion about books, i just had to subscribe.
Sorry to hear about your brother, but what a lovely memory to have.
As for authors that i have to buy, Dickens would be first on that list, even if i o have them all😂 I have started getting a passion for Balzac of late, too.
Thank you so much for mentioning my channel in such glowing terms. You are incredibly kind.

As for your question, my answer is a resounding yes! I would love to team up for a readalong. Is there somewhere that I should message you directly about this?
Your comment about Dickens gave me a laugh. I'll soon be reading A Christmas Carol for the first time, and I have you to thank for inspiring me to pick it up.

I like the no-pressure style of your new channel. I get it about the new book buying thing. I've rediscovered my local library. I tend to be a mood reader so it's been much nicer to just choose what I want to read at that time instead of having to "shop" from my own book shelves out of a sense of guilt over the ever-growing stacks of books that I'd purchased and hadn't read. BTW, Quill is the cutest little bookworm. 🤗

💚! Thank you, Jessica. I completely understand being a mood reader. I'm right there with you on that. Curiosity dictates a lot of my reading too. I'm always wandering down some bookish rabbit hole or another. Welcome back to BookTube...and my wife and I are looking forward to your channel. It is a mature look at reading...and that's us.
I will be the one that answers most of the comments. My wife doesn't like the internet, and peaks over my shoulder and suggestst things to say or whatever, but will rarely engage. We both read voraciously...and we do it together. We are retired...so our days are our own, and we will read and discuss books, though our tastes are varied. I love Science Fiction and Fantasy, with Thrillers, Historicals, and Memoirs...while Marie loves Horror, Thrillers and Romance, along with Historicals and Memoirs. So we have crossovers, but we also have our own styles/tastes.
I have a number of automatic buys. Brandon Sanderson, especially his Cosmere books. Lee Child's Reacher series. Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole series, and anything Star Wars and Star Trek related. I am currently going through the old books that we've gotten over the years...and reading a LOT of the backlists...while waiting for the new books to be published. Marie's automatic buys are Stephen King, Lauren Beukes and some other authors I don't even want to look at the books...they are so scary. She also loves Ray Bradbury, and is currently rereading everything that he's written.
I become fascinated with Encylopedia Brown, then Elery Queen and then Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes and Josephine Tey. That was my gateway to reading. My wife's was Penelope Lively, then Barbara Freeman and then she started Edgar Allan Poe and a lot of books that I don't know the names of.
We both wanted to pass our love of reading down to our three kids. It worked with the oldest and youngest, both girls, but our son just rejected it immediately.
Marie stared reading the kids Goosebumps and Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, while I read to them Fantasy books...like The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and such. I also read our girls the Twilight Series (yes, I know...but we had great conversations about what was good and what wasn't), and followed that with a LOT of dystopian, especially with our youngest. So the girls are a mixture of Marie and I...which we are both very happy about.
    Yes, we read everywhere, too.
We read classics, too. I am currently reading Mark Twain and Robert E. Howard. Not exactly Classics classics, but still classic.
Oh, we love the Hunger Games series, too. Oh, yes...Sabaa Tahir. Great story, but it has been going on four years...and I still haven't read the fourth/final book. Ugh. So...when that happens...it will be prefaced with a reread of the previous three.
Oh, yeah, we both do a LOT of rereading, too.
Thanks for this time with your channel...and we are also Bookworms...so it is good to be here. Talk to you, later.

🐛Hi, Graff and Marie! I'm so glad to have you both here, watching videos and sharing your bookish experiences.
It's wonderful that you have each other to share and discuss books with, even if all your bookish interests don't fully overlap. And it's great that you were able to pass your love of reading on to (most of) your children. Perhaps your son will find a love of reading down the road?
I loved the Goosebumps books when I was a kid. I used to sit and read two or three of them in a day; it was all that I wanted to do. How fun that you've been able to share those books with your kids.

I don’t know why I needed the code word “Bookworm”, but there it is. I live in the Canadian Arctic and have learned to my core the truth of the Finnish saying, “There is no cold weather, just inadequate clothing.” Please, treat yourself well and spend whatever you need to for adequate clothing. Going out in the cold with no fear of it does wonders for your mental health over the long haul of winter. I came to this channel having seen one of the episodes on non-fiction on your last channel. Bookworm - enjoy the Midwest winter (mild so far, but yes, dark). I’m across the border in Minnesota and for “what writers will you always support” I will mention an author from here: Julie Schumacher. If you haven’t read “Dear Committee Members”, consider doing so. She set herself an impossible task as far as how the book would be structured, and made the impossible possible (and emotionally engaging). Good luck with this new channel!

💚! Thank you, and a hello to you from Tali and Luna. 😸😸 Living abroad did play a role in my changing reading habits (namely making me more aware of how many books were coming in our out of the apartment, because I knew I'd have to move them back to the States at some point). The pandemic made it almost impossible for me to focus on a book (huge bummer), and while I was busy with school I didn't have much time or energy to read. But I think all of that has collectively shaped my reading habits for the better.

Wotcha Bookworm! On asking for recommendations, my absolute all-time favourite book is Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake. If you haven't read it, do so immediately and fall in love with the English language all over again. However, because it only nominally fits into the "fantasy" genre, it is really hard to find anything comparable. I have asked in bookshops, only to be pointed at Tolkein (nope! Peake could write) and Brandon Sanderson (nope - very much nope - Peake had depth).
Eventually I read Piranesi by Susanna Clarke and loved it. It has a similar feel, but is not as dark.
    Good luck with the channel.

Well spoken answers to these questions. You definitely seem like someone who would give credentials to literary merit; and perhaps a bit flushed on the outset. But I'm like that, too. I stick mostly to the classics and philosophy. I'm moreso invested in the latter, especially the ancients: Aristotle, Plato, Plutarch, Cicero, Seneca . . . from the pragmatic stoics to the more abstract notions of idealism and its descendants, which leads me also into modern philosophy. Spinoza is my favorite. His Ethics is comparable to none by my estimation. And then there's the transcendentalists, primarily Emerson - I adopt their sense in my own writing; and it seems my way of thinking gets along with theirs rather nicely. That's why I've been working on this writing project for Plato's Symposium: I'm diving into it with a transcendentalist perspective. I really want to capture its beauty in the style of transcendental thought. I'm at 22k words and aiming for 100k; then I will go on to Aristotle's Metaphysics, and then Spinoza's Ethics.

Writing/prose is a big part of my enjoyment of books, which is why I was delighted to see you highlight the Strange the Dreamer duology. While it's amongst the best fantasy I've ever read, the #1 spot goes to "The Curse of Chalion" by Lois McMaster Bujold. It is thematically comparable to Strange the Dreamer in its ideas of pushing for peace and kindness in the mist of violence, but whereas Laini Taylor's prose is almost poetic in its beauty, I find Lois McMaster Bujold's writing to be very clever and sprinkled with the most enjoyable wry humour. Happy reading, fellow bookworm! :)

Warm welcome {back} to the BookTube stratosphere.
I am sorry to hear of your brother passing, which is hard hitting. Fortunately you have fond memories of him and as you have stated {at least in part} his contribution to your love of reading.
The dreamer is definitely a must read carrying the readers into a far flown world on the wings of her imagination.
It is hard for me to recall whether I came across your previous channel before your pause or after, but nonetheless your clips were quite memorable and timeless {no pun intended for consuming your precious time}. As a fellow bookworm it is easy to relate to some of the issues, such as a virtual never-ending race to accumulate {and read} books. I try to limit myself to sales and special dates for acquiring new books and also opt for the chance free \ used shops to gather more in between.
