    Nicely equipped bike. About a quarter of the bikes I saw on my ride today were eBikes so they are definitely getting more people out on the roads and trails.

      That is the way it seems now. When I ride around town in the summer it seems like half the people are on ebikes. Great to see because in many cases they are people who would otherwise maybe not be cycling at all.

    i'm not into ebikes, but if i was to get one--it would likely be one of these--I was born in Sausalito, CA (which is in Marin county....no coincidence there, they name all their bikes after locations in the county)

    Come on Marin what were you thinking with that mounting position of the controller?.. You gotta be kidding me... One crash and it's toast... Nothing like mounting it high and exposed!... I'm not a mechanical engineer but that is a no-brainer... Geesh.... That alone would prevent me from buying that bike

    Good overview. The model that this replaces, the San Rafael DS-E, came with the older Steps 6000 system, but it had lots of extras like mud guards, a rear rack and full lighting front and back. Any word from Marin about eliminating these features while keeping the price the same?

      Hi, I think everything on bikes is getting more expensive so it was either a case of keeping a similar spec and raising the price or removing the extras to maintain a price.

    Love how we in the uk get ripped off all the time - one of these is around £2500 in uk - considering it's supposed to be about $1.30 to £1 we are paying well over the odds - it sold be about £2160!

    Very insightful review! I'm really considering getting this bike. My size - size Large, is currently out of stock on the official Marin website. Do you know how often they restock them? Thanks

      Check with your local Marin dealer. Many bike models are still oversold from Marin, meaning all the bikes coming to Marin's warehouse are spoken for by the dealers who have them on backorder. So Marin may not have any but a local dealer may either have the bikes in stock or have a rough estimate of when they're expected.

    Alas I have Sausalito ebike tastes but a Marin City or Canal St. In San Rafael budget.

      I lived in Marin county several decades ago.

      That is an expensive part of the world! Though, to be fair, these Sausalito ebikes are among some of the better priced ebikes considering their components and electric system.

    I noticed that you referred to the weight in pounds but the range in kilometers. Do Canadians typically use both systems?

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Tom, yup, it is typical to hear feet and pounds for a person's height and weight while litres and kilometers for volume and distance. Where are you?

    Great review thanks for sharing. I love the bike, but can you tell me, with only a 250watt motor how does it do on hills? I mean fairly steep hills? Thanks

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Brian. It still zips up hills with no issues. It really requires a test ride to see what you think. Different people have different comments and it seems the algorithm that interprets the pedalling speed and power and how the power is delivered is as big an issue as the Watts.

      @@BikeBrosBikeShop Thanks for the review, Bike Bros! I was wondering if you could give me more information on your meaning above? What have people said regarding the algorithm more specifically.

    • @YerDad632
      @YerDad632 2 роки тому

      A lot of times when you see 500 and 750 watt systems, they’re terribly inefficient. Usually a hub motor or a POS bafang mid drive. The power of the motor is all focused on turning the front ring faster than you can and it uses the drivetrain like your legs would! Anything above 350w at this point in ebike technology is overpowered, inefficient and usually some weird grey market Chinese bs.

    Can you replace the fork to a rigid fork without messing up the geometry?

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, just need the right length of fork. The e1 version of this bike has a rigid fork

    Is this a gender specific bike?

    • @BikeBrosBikeShop
      @BikeBrosBikeShop  3 роки тому +3

      Nope. Many companies are trying to normalize dropped frames as an option for any gender.
