    4. Sot Matt Kent: "Because he actually sold a lot a decade or so ago. So what we see here is a lot of his early stuff that he decided to keep that was really of value to him as a person, and stuff that he has bought since that time. So with regards to all the art work and everything else, and the fish that you see around you yes, because he used to have it all displayed around the house. The fish adorned his bar, he had a bar called The Barracuda and all this hung from the ceilings. The guitars used to be on show and all the art work was all around. So this totally encapsulates his life. Everything you see here is John, I mean the stage outfits, there is equipment there that went to Los Angeles with John, and they were the last guitars he played and the last stage outfits he ever wore. So it is quite emotional seeing it all laid out like this."

    8. Sot Stephen Maycock, auctioneer for Sotheby's : " Well I think it is fair to say that John was pretty obsessive about collecting guitars, and was collection pretty ,much from the moment that he could afford to buy an extra guitar way back in the sixties when he first became famous, and it is something that snowballed and I think he collected guitars, a to use, always trying to perhaps get a better example of something that he might have got already but that he wanted to improve the model. But then he also collected guitars because they were a nice shape, a nice colour. I mean there are some guitars here from the sixties which are , he described as trashy or junk, but because they are so tacky he liked having them on the wall just as objects, So he bought fro all different types of reasons, And most of the guitars actually he didn't play himself. He only was a bass player who didn't play six string guitars, so a lot of the guitars simple were bought to form a part of the collection, because it was yet another model which you have to have to make the set."

    11. Sot Stephen Maycock: " Well there is certainly one guitar which was Johns personal favourite which is called Frankenstein, which is a Fender precision bass guitar which he actually out together himself in 67 from three or four smashed guitars. And had a day off from tour and thought well I can maybe do something with these. So he spent a few hours with a soldering iron and a screw driver and at the end of it came up with this hybrid guitar, if you like, which then, because it was formed form a number of different parts, he called it Frankenstein. And it was the one that he played pretty much solidly from 67 through to the early 70's both on stage and for live, for recorded work."

That kind of makes me ill, when I saw how many guitars and basses he collected, and they would be stacked up to the ceiling in his closets. And he probably only has a few basses he prefers to play, like most players, so it was just selfish hoarding. It was like prince, recording his music, then putting it in vaults, Well, it all gets sorted out when people pass on. You can't take anything with you.

It was an investment for him, and it allowed his son to pay the massive inheritance taxes so it worked out pretty well in the end

I’ve got thousands of LPs CDs DVDs _ stacked in meters and meters of shelving, stuff I haven’t listed to or seen in years and will probably never will, a lifetime of collecting. If that makes you feel ill, fuck you.

@@optimistsofnineelms That’s right. Nothing “selfish” about it. If you earn your money you can do whatever you want with it.

I own 17 basses and I only wish I could collect more. There are indeed 3 that I prefer over the rest but they are all special to me in their own way. They also retain their value.

What a flippin' useless video - only showed about 3 of the guitars? Yawn-inducing interviews and then the camera follows Damon Blur around paparazzi style.
