Pulling a vacuum is a common part of air conditioning repairs. Vacuums are used to evacuate ACs, a process by which they pull out all air and moisture from the refrigerant system prior to testing, repairs, and recharging. Generally, this is best done by an HVAC professional.
An air conditioning vacuum pump is used to remove unwanted air and water vapor from the air conditioning system when it is under service. When the air conditioner needs to be repaired, the first step taken is usually to recover the refrigerant from the system for reuse later.
Once the recovery job has been done, you can now proceed to do the necessary troubleshooting and repair work. The next step is to check and make sure that the system is leak-free else steps will have to be taken to rectify this.
The evacuation process is the next step in which the vacuum pump is used to remove the air and moisture from the refrigerant system. Once this is done, the charging process can be carried out before doing a full test on the system.

Discussed with AC mechanic, they said, for new ac, no need of vacuum, since gas already filled in it.
Today {10.05.2020} installed daikin 1.5 Ton ac,
Daikin team, done vacuum for 15 mins, leak test at 10 psi, and overall perfect installation.

Condenser coil is filled with gas. But not evaporator coil during installation. So it is must. Minimum 150 psi pressure test to be done.
Useful info... Especially pipe bending should be done by pipe bender....

Dear brother, generally the installation people is not doing the vaccum process. The little air inside the hose is mixed with the refrigerant and get diluted. The very small amount of oxygen will disappear. Is it so dangerous and alarming as you explained?
