    I'm still hoping to visit the nursery on my first trip out of hospital, unfortunately I went down hill for a while this year but am getting better now, they said they may let me out for 2 days either before or after Christmas and I can't think of a better way to use my first 2 days of freedom, in 3 years, than to visit the nursery. Peter was kind enough to invite me a while back so I'm hoping it won't be too long. These videos have kept me sane all these years. I've even started a small bonsai club at the hospital as the ward has a small garden now else uses. I don't have much as obviously money is an issues ha ha. One of the doctors stays late with me whenever Peter puts out a video and we watch it together like we are now. Thankyou Peter and hope to visit soon!

      @@sophiesmith5922 yea, my old ward didn't have a garden and it was horrible. Because I'm on so many drips I can't leave the ward. Especially as I'm on a morphine drip as unbelievably patients have been attacked to nick the large syringe of morphine in the pump so your not around off the ward with it, so it great I have a garden now.

    Thank you great tips....I took home 5 lemon seeds from my lemon slices from fish and chips dinner....3 grew....I also found 1 seed in a mandarin orange, they are usually seedless.....its now 5 inches tall...my avocado seeds popped up in my compost so I potted them up and braided 5 stems together to make a thicker trunk..also the cosmic crisp apples from the store sprouted easily 3 trees grew out of 5 seeds, it may be because the apples were kept cool at one point... so they went through the chill in the apple.....its very rewarding to grow trees from seeds. Putting seeds and strawberry plants into my freezer has been something I have done a few times. Peter I rec'd a box of lemons & oranges & apples for Christmas....one of those inexpensive grocery store boxes that you offer your $5 on to keep odds & ends from being thrown into the compost by stores. After making marmalade & baked apples I now have probably a hundred seeds, the citrus ones with the outer protective coat peeled off on at least one side. All of my houseplants of mostly begonias & geraniums all have baby citrus trees, avocado plants or even meter tall willows growing in the same pots. Outside in pots & 7 garden beds I have all kinds of things from planting seeds, forgetting. My pride & joy is the delicious peach tree that I had fruit on now 2 summers. And indoors, a 3 inch dragon fruit little plant next to an herb & avocado. My freind in Philli didn't know how our local Christmas trees proliferate so I sent her seed from various cones & she is excited to grow Nova Scotia evergreens in her home once they are stratified. My area is the Christmas Tree capitol of Canada.

      Awesome! I was afraid to get a kit. But I looked around one of our wilder parks and realized at one point, some intentional planting had been done. We have "tree of heaven" and a Beebee tree, as well as catalpa not native to my area, planted by a college student who brought seed from home. I want to sprout some of these for unique leaves and flowers. And of course we have maples and pines and a few other volunteer trees that also grew from seed off specimen trees on a well manicured campus. Apparently squirrels are good gardners, carrying seed quite far from the parent plant.

    Why is it that a seed from a bonsai kit will not produce a bonsai, but only an ordinary tree?

    Once when I was hurting for money, I grew magic mushrooms. But I had to torch them when the mycelium became infected. I didnt want to be responsible for poisoning anybody to death. I guess I'll have to find an easier way to get rich quick.

    It's difficult growing trees from seeds that have been dry stored ☹️

    • @Stettafire
      @Stettafire Рік тому +2

      In my experience most seeds germinate better after they've been dried. Only thing you don't want to do is wait too long after they've been picked, they need to be dry but still relatively fresh (don't keep seeds in a packet for months)

      Try doing the float test in water before sewing seeds, usually seeds sink to the bottom if they are viable, if they float then usually they are dead!

      Not so unusual in the UA-cam world. Many UA-camrs wait even longer, look at Charles Dowding, sometimes he'll record a video months in advance

    This doesn’t show how to seed and care properly for bonsai at all. The title is misleading.
