    You can tell that the global supply chain issues has really impacted these trade shows because I haven’t seen anything with the “wow factor” or anything particularly innovative. I would imagine this is tied to the lengthy wait times for raw materials to develop new products as well as a general shortage of employees.

    • @6willis

      I agree that there’s no wow factor products but I wouldn’t blame it on supply chain issues. These are trade shows, usually showcasing their latest and greatest or upcoming products, no one is here fulfilling orders for clients

    the abilty to use the giant battery in the truck as a back up power source is not a gimmick.
    This also provides an outlet anywhere you can get the truck to that could be a game changer when you need the one tool thats not battery powered.
    Also could be a great why to take power from work while your there all day and use it at the house when your power is out for example.
    Or in your rv maybe you recharge its batteries from the truck then head into town to eat and recharge the truck while you dine ect...

    • @killerplumber

      Great in theory, you will have range issues if you don’t keep a close watch on your truck battery. Will take a calculated thought process to keep enough batt to get you back to a charger with extra to spare encase of unforeseen traffic issues

    • @InfernosReaper
      @InfernosReaper 2 роки тому +1

      @@killerplumber to be fair on traffic issues, while you're stationary, you're relatively fine... unless you need to use climate control. That plus the surge current from stop and go(something apparently no EV fans know about or want to believe exists) could be a problem.
      Of course, if you're using something like that for emergency power, you're already going to be doing math for how long it can last you anyway.

    According to a certain news station I saw the other day “no one wants electrical vehicles”. I personally don’t think electrical vehicles are the end all be all, but I do think for a fair amount of people there a great alternative. Me personally I would probably pick a hybrid for the flexibility. However there are some vehicles that are classified as electric, but they have an on board gas generator for emergencies. Seems like a really good option. But just remember all these electrical vehicles are brought to our cities by diesel powered vehicle.

    • @MikeYoungeasytravel

      The battery should last at least 400,000 miles. This will also depend how you change it, type 2 (240 volt) vs fast charging. Type 2 charging places very little stress on your battery, and is also much cheaper $0.08 to $0.16 per KWh, depending on your utility rates.

      This is an issue for all vehicles in cold weather. People with EVs are just more sensitive to range. Having said that, Ford has a lot of room for improvement in their EV technology. The Tesla Model Y for example has very little range loss in colder climates compared to the Mach-E because the heating/cooling system design is extremely efficient.

      Yes, that was his point; although maybe he could have said it more clearly. More regenerative braking means less use of and wear on the friction braking system. My Prius is 20 years old and is still on original brake pads.

      @jeffreymowens 2 роки тому

      @@TagiukGold with due respect, Matt brain farted there IMO. You're making it sound like you use less brakes ... That's not true. @@jeffreymowens Yes I'm sure Matt enjoys poking fun at his expense. Regenerative braking uses motor resistance to slow the vehicle, and it works just as well or better than engine braking. There is a hack for the Prius to maximize motor braking, I've not done it to mine. I'm guessing that full electric vehicles with current generation battery tech are much better at this, thus greatly reducing wear on break pads.

      @@jeffreymowens, he is correct. Regenerative braking can slow an EV down much more effectively than engine braking. Teslas for example hardly use the mechanical brakes at all except for the last few miles per hour to bring the vehicle to a full stop. I know several people with Teslas, including my girlfriend. None of them have ever changed their brake pads. My girlfriends Model 3 has 75k miles on it. I looked at the front brake pads recently during a tire change and they looked like they looked better than my brake pads with only 20k miles on them.

      If a person plans to keep a vehicle longer than a decade, there is a lot to like about an electric platform. The two main worries I have would be the fire risk and being an early adopter. Lithium NMC fires are significantly more dangerous than petroleum-based fires especially when the battery is placed under the vehicle occupants.

    • @InfernosReaper
      @InfernosReaper 2 роки тому

      @@KevinSmith-qi5yn I think you have the opposite to consider. If a person plans to keep a vehicle longer than a decade, EVs are the worse option. What *should* be a simpler to maintain vehicle basically is a lateral progression because of all the unnecessary electronics added to said vehicle.
      Then throw in the cost of the batteries(whose life spans *will* get degraded faster by the quick charging, btw). Those are going to be very expensive as the batteries are inherently expensive *and* there's not much competition to bring the price down any.
      Sure, you might could build your own battery, but you *will* get locked out of the quick charge systems. Also, if you have the electrical engineering skills needed to make a battery safely and the money to buy an EV in the first place, ya might as well save yourself some money by converting a junk ICE car into an EV.
      This is coming from a man who's never owned a vehicle from this century and an electrical engineering degree, so make of that what you will.

      @@vanderumd11 It's so funny to see all the Guestimates, truth is that no one have a clue of how much the 3 versions of Cybertruck will be. I can promise one thing though, you will know the correct price in end of year. And I bought the P100D when it came out in 2017 (one of the first in Norway) for 140k USD, so if I get the largest Cybertruck for 120k I will still think it is a steal! :) That said, without FSD I expect it to be below 100k so we think different, lets see...

      There are instances of EV batteries lasting 10 years. But there are far more of them not, but the EV fans won't acknowledge it.
      The Ford truck's power bank features, while handy in a pinch, will definitely shorten the lifespan.
