HE IN DENIAL YALL LOL
That girl hurt him. He's trying to play it off. Big boys don't cry...
Hit that one on the head immediately 🤣
I'm not in denial Jayy! I LOVE YOU!
That was the really short version and the technique to get that sound was totally revolutionary in 1975 :)
Yup, first time I heard this song was a few years ago late at night driving home & I had to pull over because I was drawn in also. This guy is in total denial, she hurt him so he has to tell himself that hes not in love. Theres haunting sadness in his voice.
"Big boys don't cry" was instilled in his mind as a child, so as a grown-up he finds it difficult to express his emotions. Hence - I'm not in love.
Hard to believe this is a 45-year-old song. Still sounds fresh and unique.
That’s sad
@@THEJAYYSHOW True. It's the story of too many guys.
That line is often misheard as "Requesting quiet Requesting quit" lol
First single I bought at 15. Still got it.
I agree with this post. And it's interesting how they came up with that line in the song. There was a secretary who worked for the studio and they asked her to repeat line that a couple times, and she did. They added some effects to her voice after she said it. It's rather beautiful, yet haunting. I take it to mean that it was a voice that was in his head. Anyway, the secretary had a very nice voice. It was rather soothing, even though what she was saying was something in his head that might have been bothering him.
Eric Stewart (the singer) wrote this "Tongue in Cheek" song in response to his wife's constantly telling him that he didn't tell her that he loved her enough times.....In reality, he loved her very much. The band searched high and low looking for the perfect voice to say the words "Big Boys Don't Cry" when their secretary/telephonist/tea maker etc. popped her head around the door while they were recording this, to tell them that they'd got a phone call and they all instantly knew that her voice was the exact voice that they were looking for.
Sheesh
That is true @walshaw. He purposely wrote in a way he knew listeners would interpret it, as we do, while maintaining a "tongue and cheek" response to the love of his life - at the time married for 9 years, and to date married for 52 years! Statement from an interview:
[Eric Stewart was inspired to write “I’m Not In Love” because of a chance remark by his wife. “Gloria said to me one day, ‘you’ve stopped saying I love you.’ ‘Yes, but if I keep saying it, it would no longer have any meaning.’ While this was inconsequential banter between us, the notion stuck in my mind, and when I put the idea to my song-writing partner of a song which said ‘I’m not in love’ and then proceeded to give all the reasons why the singer was totally in love, he thought it was great.”]
Walshaw, great story!
Jayy, you'll love their "The Things We Do For Love" too. I'm Not In Love is known for its innovative and distinctive backing track, composed mostly of the band's multitracked vocals.

Really? Would I?
@@THEJAYYSHOW yes, great vocals, happier tone and lyrics.
Nice copy/paste 😉
10CC "DREADLOCK HOLIDAY"..A MUST HEAR CLASSIC.
This is the short version. You need to listen to the album version where the ending just goes on and on. Totally brilliant.
The kind of song you dont want to end, such an atmospheric, warm, spaced out vibe , shot through with that vocal .... love you J x
Fantasy dream like euphoria. The line is, "Big boys don't cry." 10cc, "The Things We Do For Love." ✌️♥️🌹
Most beautiful song ever made. Loved it since I was 9 years old. I’m 58 now.
That was nearly 40 years ago, and that song always "Drew you in". I remember a friend and I were heading up on a camping/fishing trip listening to top 40 FM radio on the car radio, and this song came on - we both shut up and listened like we were mesmerized. It ended, and we picked up the conversation right where we left off! There may be a million stories like that about this song.
Your reaction is perfect! You don't know how many don't get this song at all. When she whispers "Big boy don't cry" and your eyes get as big as saucers! This is amazing. Yes!
This is my favourite popballad ever, it is so mesmerizing and amazing in every aspect! It brings me back to the 1970s and my bittersweet teenage years!
Loved this song for a long time
I can see why
I was in 7th grade when this song was on the radio. Brings back memories. Glad it was resurrected in Guardians of the Galaxy. Such a great song. ❤️😁
It's a brilliantly written lyric and the multi-tracked voicings (which was very time consuming but the 'arty' half of the band wanted something different) still shimmer today. A No.1 single back home in the UK, it's since become one of those end-of-the-evening slow dance tunes where everyone remembers the first line but not the rest.
It’s fantastic
Yeah, I always figured they were using a synthesizer on the song, but I read a few years back that they had recorded each member of the band about a dozen times sustaining each note in the scale for as long as they could. Then blended the resulting 150-200 recordings together to make those cool sounds. Supposedly they had at one point 15 or 20 tape recorders around the studio with 15 foot loops of magnetic tape trailing off on to the floor behind each one. Very insane and intricate but absolutely beautiful when they were done.
Classic song. This song was in the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy and I literally said outloud....GOOD SONG.
This song is beautiful.
So beautiful
Great job! He was insanely in love - whipped. That was the whole point of the song.
This song has always meant a lot to me.
Yet another gem from the 70s. Takes me back to being 15.
Well done. You were drawn in by this song. So was I, as a 16 year old in 1975. The magic still works. No computers were used in production, just clever tape editing of multiplied voices. They were from Manchester UK where I live. 10cc were geniuses.
10cc were a spectacular band when comprised of the original foursome and they could really cut it live as well. My personal favourites are ‘Somewhere in Hollywood’ and ‘Old Wild Men’ which feature Kevin Godley taking on the lead vocals. Smarty, witty, and they could really rock when they wanted to.
Really 👀
@@THEJAYYSHOW Listen to 20 Tracks by one of England's finest and they will all be totally different and you won't believe it is always the same 4 guys in this group :)
That girl speaking was the receptionist at the studio she was 19 and it was her first day at the job
Oh wow
One of my favorite songs. Esp. after a break up, you don't want them to see you cry or that you still love them.... that is why they had the part about "big boys don't cry". Boys taught early not too show their pain and esp not to cry. Thank goodness we're starting to get away from that mentality. Great reaction Jayy, hope you are having a great holiday season.
To understand how great this song really is you need to watch " the making of " its on youtube
The making?
@@THEJAYYSHOW yes there is a video of 10cc making the song in the studio.....it really was ground breaking at the time , well worth a look
@@THEJAYYSHOW - the background music is all of their voices combined, repeated over & over again.. A lot of work back in the day. This was my fav song from the summer of 1975. Soothing in its own way.
He's completely in love 😜😆 If you liked this, I'd highly recommend The Things We Do For Love. Also my personal favourite is Rubber Bullets xxx
Yeah he sure is
A safe way to avoid disappointment and hurt. Lying to himself protects him, but deep down he knows and everyone knows how he really feels.
This 70's song was one of THE most influential of the 80's 90's and the 2000's !
Still captivating all these years later...
This song keeps appearing on classic track votings. The band sung each a and pa in key to different tracks. They then used the mixing board as an instrument to play the required voices in the right places, every hand on desk.
That's how I felt the first time I heard this back in high school.
Grew up with this BEAUTIFUL song
Such a beautiful song.
Just a beautiful song by 10CC
It’s a great song.. so well crafted, so well engineered… it was a fun hit song
"It draws you in" summed up perfectly.
That was the really short version and the technique to get that sound was totally revolutionary in 1975 :)
Graham Gouldman, the bass player and cowriter of this song, wrote a lot of terrific hits before even joining 10cc, including hits for the Yardbirds and the Hollies.
Try "I'm Mandy, Fly Me", it's yet another Classic from 10cc. They've done so many great songs as good as this.
Is that right
@@THEJAYYSHOW Yep, sure is. The things we do for love is another one.
@@THEJAYYSHOW There is an *astonishingly* good live version of I'm Mandy Fly Me (which is indeed a fantastic song) from around the same time as this live footage (which has had the studio version dubbed onto it). When they were good, they were fantastic.
10cc had a real snappy hit around then, with "The Things We Do For Love." Completely different feel and tempo.
Excellent Creative group. Loved them. ♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
Remember hearing this played back to back with DRIVE by the Cars on love songs on the Coast in SoCal early 80s. Felt like a long unending dream 💫
The "big boys dont cry" seemed like he was hurting under what he was singing..she said what he couldn't admit. he was hurt.
Yeah I figured that that’s how I took it
One of the greatest songs of the 70s ... mid 70s was a bit of a low spot for quality music as things were changing fast but this song stands out in any era and stands the test of time
......
I believe when he says 'you'll wait a long time for me' he's really saying I will wait for you forever. Im in it now.....
This song always reminds me of my dad, I learned about so many great songs just being in his car driving, he would put on his home made mix tapes and this song always resonated even when I was only 9 or 10….usually followed by some Freddy , absolute magic! ❤
One of my all-time favorites. His voice reminded me of mccartney. Thanks for the memory Jayy😍
Thank you so much for watching
Jayy, this is the single version, you need to listen to the full album version to really appreciate the artistry of the song. The album that it's from "The original soundtrack" is phenomenal, would highly recommend you listen to the opening track "Une Nuit a Paris" (One night in Paris) which really showcases the diverse talent of 10CC, Cheers
Such a massive hit and popular record in UK. It has become a classic Enjoy Jayy.
It was amazing
You reaction is very genuine, you got the point of that song. this song always haunted me. it does draw you in.
This tune still sounds as fresh as the day it was released in 75, the mark of a true classic. All hands on deck mixing the vast vocal tracks before fully automated mixing when the Mix was a live performance. Yes, analog is pretty tough to beat, just push the little red button!
Love this tune! I hear it and I’m 17 again.
Jayy - this song is amazing - I've even seen a live version that sounded almost as good -- I appreciate your reaction -- also, one other "hit" by 10CC was "the things we do for love" -
Two members of 10cc ( Kevin Godley and Lol Creme) went on to form godely and creme who also had some amazing songs .."cry" and "under your thumb" both worth reacting to X
‘Cry’ and its accompanying video is a masterpiece.
Really?
@@THEJAYYSHOW Really, really!
@@THEJAYYSHOW Yes, it is!!! :)
Just wanted to add a artist called Kelsey Lu does a fantastic cover of this song 😊
Seven in 75. This song haunts me. Love your videos. So beautiful .
Written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman, Stewart came up with the idea for the song after his wife of eight years asked him why he didn't say "I love you" more often.
This brings back so many teen memories 😅
This song is so good
favorite song ever!!
one of the best live band i have ever seen, a group of musicians who new each other so well. For me " feel the benefit" live is just soo good with that bass solo ooo so good.
His wife said “ you never say you love me”. He wrote this tongue in cheek song for her ….they are still going strong after 50 + years……..of and the “big boys don’t cry “ was the secretary / char lady who popped in to tell them they had a phone call….….
the 70's was simply the greatest decade there will ever be for pop & rock music
Beautiful song , it gets you to about your relationship s in your world 🌎🌍 memories !!!
What she was saying is, "Big boys don't cry" this tune broke racial barriers back in the day. Awesome tune 👌!
Folklore has it that the woman’s voice that whispers ‘Big boys don’t cry’ was the receptionist working the front desk at the recording studio. Sounds like an interesting fact.
He was told as a child by his mother big boys don't cry. Don't allow yourself to feel. Loved this song when it came out!
Great song love this one Jayy thanks
Thank you so much for watching
You're totally right. He's in love. 🙂
Mesmerizing!
You really should play "Dreadlock Holliday " by 10cc ... you're gonna love it .
A beautiful song about keeping things in perspective.
: )
She don't matter, and what if she did!
Yep, the irony of the song is that the narrater is very clearly in love but is in denial. He's been taught that men don't show emotion, hence the 'big boys don't cry' lyric. I'm so glad you got it. I've seen several reactors miss the irony entirely and end up attacking a meaning of the song which just isn't there... :)
This Was A Number One In England 🏴 In 1975! I Was Still At School!
A little info for you...........2 things happened in 1975 that in many ways kinda changed popular music...1..this was released.....2..Bo-rapsody was released by queen......i was 15 at the time and hearing those 2 songs for the 1st time was amazing, and both songs still are amazing
You was lucky
@@THEJAYYSHOW i sure was me luv.......but now i can sit back and watch the younger generation see and hear what i did, check out the " making of i'm not in love "
@@THEJAYYSHOW yes, it was a golden era.
The song is beautiful but also enraging. It reminds me of all the baby men you meet in your late teens and twenties who obviously care for you but pretend they don't because they're either emotionally damaged or because they keep thinking someone better is out there for them so they won't commit.
70's soft rock
This incredible song took no less than 3 weeks to make. Eric Stewart wrote this as a tongue in cheek response to his wife making a comment that he didn't tell her that he loved her often enough. The heavenly sounds were the result of a massive amount of studio tape loops of each member of the band singing EACH note of the song. (If memory serves, 48 times every note) 10cc was a remarkable band far ahead of their time. Peace and love.
You nailed it right off....total denial. Great job and reaction!l
I used to think the singer Eric Stewart was so hot hehe. And the facial expressions are priceless lol. I think it is a tongue-in-cheek way of saying he IS in love ;) thanks for sharing Jayy :)
10cc were a great band
Dreamy song very good
Good Morning Judge is another great 10cc song
Story telling in music is so lost today. I was very fortunate to be around in the best times.
I'm Mandy fly me is a must..... It's classic
Loooove your reaction. Thanks so much.✌💋
Dude's in love:-)
"Big boys dont cry" was used on Dickie Goodman- Mr Jaws from 1975
Please listen to the long version, close your eyes and its the best song ever!!!
AM radio - Boston - a young kid, love this song
Big boys don't cry, Big boys don't cry
Yeah, it does draw you in. You're right. He said big boys dont cry.
People said this was not a real band, but hear their their music....Dreadlock holiday, Good morning Judge
Godley & Creme, 2 members of the band, made a wonderful video called 'Cry'. They did another good song called 'Under Your Thumb' (which is not the Rolling Stones song BTW).
When I first listen to the song was at beach played song on wheel in bet red and win candy the album
Good song good reaction
Thank you so much
I’m right there with you, I love this song but I can’t explain why.
Dude is deep in denial.
Use to slow dance to this song in the 70s
you got this song so quick alot of people dont get it
Yeah, he just found out DeNial is not a river in Egypt. He is waaaay in love. An old story, but a good one.
Mesmerizing!!
He got it bad 😂😂. I’m not in love. Yeah right
Lol right
