Really useful video, thank you! The current consumption info is much appreciated too, very thorough. I like the tool roll as well, Yamm should sell them as an accessory! Nice bike and setup 👍🏼
Thanks yeah. Never wiring to the battery directly is a strong term. It's not the end of the world if you do but yes you will need to make sure you switch off the power of the device after using it to ensure the battery doesn't completely drain
@@ballamoto thanks, I thought it looked different to the usual action camera shots. The 1.8 would account for the sharpness and shallow depth of field. Great review. 👍
You can wire it in using a relay with the trigger wire going to something hot when ignition is on. That way you can leave the mount permanently ON and don't ever have to touch the power button again.
@@elsizzle2000 Hi, did you ever find an answer to this question? I was looking for a solution where it only powers on with ignition. Any help would be appreciated!
@@DatboyCarl I did not find a solution where it only powers on with ignition. However I've had mine wired directly to the batter so it always has power even when my scooter is off BUT no problem whatsoever. Sure in theory you don't want it on always BUT in reality the draw of power is so small, the battery doesn't drain, never had an issue and I hooked it up 6 months ago. Just hook it to the battery
Good video, the locking head your removed from the lock arm to the charger, mine doesnt fit, you mention an missing O-Ring and a video to disassemble the charger do you have a link for this..thanks
They're leather wraps from TripmachineCo. Great for dampening the vibrations, and giving a slightly thicker grip. But they're a bit more slippery depending on your gloves. Those mirrors are just from Amazon actually. Just search "bar end mirror" and you should find them. There's a link on my website ballamoto.weebly dot com 👍
It depends how you hook it up. If the SAE to USB connection is in a watertight space, like under the seat, it'll be fine. The USB connection to the charging head is waterproof. (well it is now they've improved it!)
Unfortunately it's actually been taken off sale for now. They're redesigning a few bits based on the initial feedback from reviewers. Hopefully it'll be on sale again soon!
Thanks a lot 👍 I just have some cheap ones from amazon actually. The first thing to get damaged if you have a spill or drop the bike off road, so I don't spend much. HI Matt, thanks for the tutorial very useful. I've just bought (in France) the weatherproof item and I didn't receive the batterie cable connector. Only two types of USB cable. Is it normal ? is there a way to order separately such cable battery connector (haven't find it yet) thanks
Hi, yes I believe they stopped supplying the battery connection (I'll update the description!), but the one I use now is the Optimate one. I Highly recommend it, as it monitors your battery and can switch off the device if you leave it on by accident 👍

Great video we’ll explained and detailed 👍 just wanted to ask if I connect this to my Honda pcx will it still drain my battery after 2 months? I ride it everyday, I do about 200to 500 miles a month.
@@cutsordesigns hahaha!! 😂 You ever used a wireless charger? 😂 And I didn't, it highlights my latest reply so you can see it! 😂 Yours is currently "highlighted"... 🤦♂️
@@cutsordesigns P.S. You know a wireless mouse uses batteries right? And you understand that for a wireless charger to be truly "wireless", it'd need a battery the size of your phone battery, and require itself to be recharged after every time it charges your phone? Any joking aside; until you've tried this set up, you won't understand how much more convenient it is to just jump on the bike, snap the phone on and have it charge. It's very different to fiddling with a cable on every ride. But each to their own, we all see different value in different things ✌️
Why do you plug your phone charger from your bike battery directly into your phone if the quad lock mount is supposed to be a wireless charger?🤔 i thought the wire from the battery would go to the quadlock phone holder and then charge off the phone holder mount but you have a wire going into you phone?
I think you have more money than sense. Went from a discrete quadlock to a bulky one for a extra £70. could have just ran a usb cable upto the mount and bought a cheap waterproof cap for the cable. stick a little strong magnet under the mount and a small washer on the usb lead and leave it under there untill needed. The fact newer versions dont come with the usb adapter is insulting for the price
Ok, that's a fair reasoning for yourself. I wouldn't go as far as to say whether it's not a good choice for someone else. I was just sharing some installation tips and info for the many people who did decide to buy it. And I actually don't see this as very bulky really, being black as well it really doesn't look bad. But you do you man 😁👍

Hi, twice in one day. Like the simple helmet lock, like you said the yammy idea is a pain in the arse. 👍
Never wire accessories to the battery directly! Cut in to the plate light wire and use it as a auxiliary power source!
Can you explain why?
What’s the reason why you wouldn’t.?

I’m editing the video of how I did it. It worked amazingly 😅
Really appreciate the video…
What a great location to do a product review. Great quality imagery, what camera did you use?
Thanks a lot! Thought I'd make it a bit more scenic 😁 I used the Canon 6D Mark II, with a 50mm f1.8 lens I think

That way you can leave the mount permanently ON and don't ever have to touch the power button again.
So will it draw power even like when you store it with the relay?
It won't

Such a clean setup, great job! I love the mods you did to your bike; where did you get the seat? is it the original reupholstered or aftermarket unit?
Thanks a lot! Yeah, it was a custom job from a small time guy local to me. His name is Glenn Moger 👍
Can you do a video on the parts Youve modded and where you got them from please pal????
5 months too late, but I finally made that video! 😂
great video thanks, when mounting phone one handed are you also pushing down on the collar at the sides or are you just pushing down with phone?
You can do either, it does the same thing really.
Correction: you need to push on the collar - it was a while since I'd used it!
The leather side bag is amazing, how can I buy it?
That's actually the official yamaha tool roll. You may be able to get one on ebay, or from the official yamaha store
Two questions: are those leather wraps on your grips or leather grips? Very cool looking. Second question, who makes your drop down mirrors?
They're leather wraps from TripmachineCo. Great for dampening the vibrations, and giving a slightly thicker grip. But they're a bit more slippery depending on your gloves.

Will the wireless charger work with the generic quad lock phone case or do you need a special wireless charging compatible case ?
If your phone has wireless charging, it will work with the standard quadlock case

Apart from the fact you cant safely charge your phone is bad weather.
Having a lead plugged into the bottom of your phone is not a good idea
