This series is my favourite thing on UA-cam right now! I've learned more about utilizing tools within the game to make a city look amazing rather than relying on mods that constantly break with updates. It makes me so happy and grateful! Much respect, Egg-Sensei!
Thanks for watching bro!
At least this is one of them, it's in the top five, but it's really not my favorite. Mine is Ilos.
All about using everything you've got
Really nice development, as always!
Two titbits to add:
1. If you really want to get that European suburbia feeling, push the street further away from the water front so you can zone the area between the water and the road. (Contrary to the US in the EU people pay more for direct access to the riverbank from their property.)
2. While your tram now moves faster across the river (which is a good), you also severed the pedestrian access to the Waterfront Legal District. I think your citizens would appreciate if they could walk there.
I'd like to see a small-to-medium Festival Grounds on the waterfront; it could have a concert stage, some food trucks, some dirt roads. FewCandy had one in Auridon, of course, but I was thinking something on a smaller scale (something like the Haikjeften Concert Stage on the Steam Workshop by KingLeno).
We've already used the festival ground unique unfortunately in a similar build ealier in the series!
The fact that this is 99% vanilla is astonishing, humbling, proof that you are one of the top city builders of this game. Your music choices kept me in tune with your vibe. I didn’t understand your insistence on detailing way back when, but I think I understand now. Thank you for continuing to create in this way, un-modded, for us console players that will only ever mimic.
For across the river from downtown, definitely feels like a great spot for a combination of parkland and nightlife/tourist hotels. Thinking bougie restaurants and upscale clubs. Some kind of public science centre would also be good. A type of district that is THE place to be without being buried in the shadows of the downtown financial skyscrapers.
"Oh, they store 1500 kids!" 😆 this ain't no school it's a kids warehouse 😁
I know I'm repeating myself but it's a fact, your commentary makes your builds even more enjoyable on top of the inspiration you bless us with in every episode you do. ❤
Thats a renaming! Thank you Star!
My favourite. "There's someone dead in that building. That's unfortunate." So deadpan!
Twenty episodes in and Orchid Bay is turning out so well. With the new DLC announcements today I'm super excited with the new assets of the shopping centers, sporting buildings (finally!) and the African buildings. I think one of your livestreams would do nicely here as you go through the city and upgrade and decorate parts with the new assets.
"They store 1500 kids!" 😂😂
Loving Orchid Bay Egg! Can't wait for the livestreams!
Hope that we get to see a huge airport soon , love from India 🇮🇳 ❤️
Outside the ChirpNet tower, maybe repurpose the space for one of the Uni plazas to help the uni level up, dude? This city is fast becoming a favourite on UA-cam at the minute. Ilos was sublime, but I think your vanilla builds are just incredible!
With the new shopping mall content creator pack being announced today I think you there should be a waterfront shopping center possibly with a small transit system in.
Great build as always today!
As someone from Columbus, GA who absolutely loves this game, enjoys your content, and loves what you've done with this build (you actually inspired my current build on the same map), this is awesome. Great stuff, man!
Loving this build. That bridge over the river is screaming for a cheese if money runs dry!
Maybe some of the wall to wall wouldn’t go a miss here to give a bit of height in places
Great build, as always - Swark is awesome! For me, it is always so gratifying to see new transit getting used while you're detailing and building around it. There were tons of people using that tram!
The school of law and the art deco condos look so good! Love this build! Orchid Bay is just such a beautiful city!
Ace build Egg! Loved the way the uni buildings fit into Swank Square, particularly the School of Law - absolute chef's kiss. I keep saying it, but far out mate, you never cease to amaze! Very much looking forward to some Orchid Bay streaming.
Quick question - what is the time sitting underneath Chirper the whole video?
I just built the law school this week after seeing it in another of your videos. What I did was put some financial zoned offices around it to make like an extended campus for no extra upkeep cost. There are some very nice 3x3 level 1 assets that link together, so with a 9x6 or a 9x9 block you can get corner units with a middle piece that merge seamlessly and look like one large law office building.
LOVED this build! It looks perfect and the new layers of height are amazing as always. You're a master at lines of sight, Egg, LOVE it!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What's wrong with me? As soon as you said "train station" for Swank Square, I got all giddy and actually clapped my hands together. Might be an odd thing for a favorite place in the city, but that switch back is doing it for me. It has such a good curve and swoop to it, along with all the foot traffic. A new favorite place is the split road around the admin. building in Swank Square. That bit of island is really taking off and will only get better.
The school of law on the riverfront is giving off vibes of the Alton Lennon Federal Building and Courthouse in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Love this combination of university, residential and pedestrian zone, park and the ferry. What a lovely build, again!
Hi Egg,
After Palaven, this is my favourite build. 🤩 I love, how you mixed the different type of buildings together to make an area with a brand new vibe.
And thanks mate the inspiration, I start my new city, following your advices. 😀
Chirpnet is an international conglomerate that dominates the manufacturing of all the basketball hoop nets and tennis court nets for the parks assets that everyone spams down in their cities next to each school.
Love watching your vanilla builds come together. I wonder if the pedestrian crossing in the Swark is a little unsighted for people coming over the humpback bridge and coming through the densely lined trees?
Sometimes I wonder just how vanilla this series is, you make vanilla look soooo good! Using the university assest to create a transition is such an egg 🥚 move
Chirpnet could be a ISP or an Internet exchange. They typically reside in buildings similar to that one. Just a suggestion though.
I really love how far the vanilla assets are pushed to make the city aesthetically pleasing and not to mention, well connected for cyclists. I tend to go colossal and high-density making my cities unmanageable. Lots of good takeaways and lessons learned in this series. Thanks OVERCHARGED EGG!
I am definitely going to need a look at the city from mad mountain before we move into building the downtown skyline. Need to see good before and after from the mountain! Love the series ❤️
nice video as always! the railway junction at 20:41 looks like a pain to cross^^
regarding chirpnet, in my opinion it sounds like a tech startup similar to google or microsoft
I was thinking the same thing but I’m so far behind on this series… Please tell me he moves the train station a bit further away in the next episode 😅
Love this video! I think Chirpnet should be the Orchid Bay social media company, instead of tweeting, Orchid Bay residents should “chirp”.
the spikes pointing in is to prevent the worker from fleeing from the horrible working conditions
This series has been a great tutorial in aesthetics in building areas--thanks so much!
very nice on the build today egg, Those 2 taller buildings are what the doc called for! looks fantastic
suprised that pedestrian bridge can hold that many people xD
Fun build.
Chirpnet: the only legal advice, delivered by Chirper.
If Orchid Bay were in the US I would guess it was probably a state capital. That university main building looks a lot like a Capitol building (where the state legislature meets), as those often feature domes on top like that one. The law school looks like a government office building and/or a courthouse.
These sorts of places are often near, but not in, the central business district, so that they can feature some landscaping and green space. They can look very much like campuses, so using a university makes some sense.
Great build! Maybe add a few pathway connections to the water front quay as there are so many pedestrians and it would be cool to see them on the quays.❤
You should add a bike bridge path to compensate the lack of the cycle lanes missing at the old bridge🚲
How about turning one (or more) of the unique factories into a tourist destination as a riverfront idea. Where I live in whisky country there's loads of heritage food brands like Baxter's, Walkers etc along with the distilleries and they're all huge working factories but also tourist attractions with visitor centres, cafes, museums and landscaped river walks around them. Even old wool mills have visitor centres. Id imagine there's similar stuff in the lakes.
There is similar stuff in the lakes, great idea!
I've been loving this series, I've watched it all over the last week or so and it's really great to be finally caught up! I was wondering if you could turn off all of the public transport for just like a second to show how much of an impact it has on traffic given the fact that everything is so well connected. Thank you for you amazing work!
Great episode you could put some level one financial district buildings somewhere in the build
Love the series, by the way the ChirpNet building is based on the TransNet building (or Carlton centre) in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is the current headquarters of TransNet, the South African Railway company. It is the 3rd tallest building in Africa.
I totally removed most of my mods except for quality of life stuff (move it, 81 tiles, AN, TMPE, etc. ) and just using vanilla DLCs and running thru this series as well as whatever FewC & Imparatur drops as well to see some good techniques. So satisfying to have the quick load time as well!
Have you ever gotten a "dislike"? I can't imagine you have. Nice work. I love this city and I've learned so much by watching.
this was one of your best builds so far imho... and yes, i'm including every series, all the way from palaven
Wonderful as always.. but instead of using earthquake sensors for jumping power the the island point gazebo perhaps a tsunami buoy would be more appropriate to jump from the other side.? Perhaps that buoy is there for the university students to monitor the river levels, speed, etc..?
(Edit: if tsunami buoys can jump the power that is...)
I look forward to when these episodes drop. Loved this one.
I wonder how much I can do without any DLCs or creator packs on old gen xbox compared to this...Wish I could splurge lol. This is an amazing addition to an amazing build, Egg. Best on UA-cam.
Continuing to really love this build!
ChirpNet is the main lawyer company in Orchid Bay. There could you hire a lawyer to fight for you in a case.
Btw. Love the series! ❤
As you were placing the first building I was saying to myself that university is perfect to look into downtown....
Of course, the grand master of tease has to buy the tile next to the downtown-one and make us wait for another 8k population 😆Nice way to fill that waterfront, the school of law looks awesome. I think an amusement park would be nice on the waterfront, maybe not even a full 5 star one - just some rides to take the kids to on a saturday and eat something unhealthy while watching a still busy downtown.
I just got done recording the next episode and we hit 35k already, was hoping it would be slower lol.
Amusement park sounds good along here!
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG 😄 It shows how much you love building in Orchid Bay
Man what a great series. Really inspirational. Thank god i ran into your channel.
Just a quick question. What trees do you include in your forest brush?
Cheers bro! My brush for this series is Horse chestnuts, Boreal Pines, Live Oaks, sugar maples, green trees, long grass and wild hedge 😌
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG you god-like man. Keep up with the excellent work man
egg take a look at a city called wheeling west virginia it’s a city located along a river
Early hi egg im loving this series a lot its giving me a lot of inspiration!❤️
Glad to hear :~)
Love the build, Egg. How much time do you spend trolling Google Maps for inspiration? Very random to see Columbus, GA showing up in Orchid Bay, but it really works.
I can’t wait to see some industry 🤘🏻 keep up the good work!
Yay! A med clinic! Love the build. Find this series to be absolutely brilliant! It's part of my Wednesday morning coffee! Cheers!
Couldn't finish the video yesterday. So finishing it now lol
Amazing mid town zone. Could we have some plants in the park area - it is a "Swanky" park after all.
25:02 you need a mobile bridge, just as a pedestrian crossing.
Chirpnet has got to be the HQ for your followers who chirp at you about network gradients, fence orientation, etc etc.
They sit in there with telescopes looking out over Orchid Bay 🏢🔭
Lmao love it
Awesome build man! Inspired me to finally buy the skyscrapers DLC.
Great and Wonderful Video Episode 😁
i really enjoy this timelapsesong. and of cours this build. its amazing
Missed chance to go for ‘Swank River Bank’ as the park name.
Very nice build ❤ You could also used financial district building on this legal office area 😊 Overall again perfect build!!
That island behind downtown would be great to have some canals in! Just past where you stopped building this episode
I will pay top dollar to visit this city , I want so badly to be on top of that mountain ' enjoying the view
So so amazing
Chirpnet could be a telecommunications company, really loving this series. Im enjoying following along with the build but with a few things changed ie road/tram network
“A bit of snooty” 😂
Chirpnet is your local ISP monopoly.
And amazing work as always! So appreciate it 🙌
Chirp Net is the local mobile/ highspeed internet provider and that building is their HQ.🙂
Love this. Can't believe how far it's come in 20 episodes. Swanky!
Hi Egg! I have been watching all videos of this series and I might be missing something, but why dont you put childcare centres and elderly care homes? These might affect the number of population. Great videos as always. Thanks!
Usually just forget lol! They won't have a huge impact but can definitely help!
The one-way angles! ❤
I was thinking maybe you can fit a pedestrian bridge under the humpback, that way you can go both sides of the park without crossing the main road.
great build as always!
Howdie OE, I am now full Subscribed to your channel. I selected "All"
Them transport layers are stunning OE. So looking forward to seeing your downtown area its going to be epic
Since it's in a legal district, maybe Chirpnet could be a cyber security company?
Maybe a cycle highway next to the rail?
Orchid Bay is so beautiful, your ideas for layouts are so amazing, i can't wait to see the finish city, i hope your next city build you on Mountain Taper map 🤩🤩
Thanks for the entertainment :)
"a touch of gazeeb" hahahah
I think the tram stop got deleted or it will be automatically go back to normal?
Having old downtown with clock tower , old downtown station and mid rise residential , parks , could look nice on that riverfront facing downtown
In Australia we just had NAPLAN with is a country wide test for the government and this is what I needed for my to to be better
Take a look at Dayton Ohio
This is definitely one of The OverchargedEgg vids of all time
The spikes on the fence pointing into the facility makes me wonder what they're housing in there...
Great work on your city! Have you considered just adding another pedestrian bridge instead of the very short ferry route?
The skyscrapers DLC is such a great addition to the game, loving how you've used it! 😍Maybe in the European suburb the houses along the train track could be some of the residential from the plazas and promenades? Just adds a bit more density and a small height increase. Wouldn't have to worry about them getting suck from the noise either!
Hi Egg, can you mix campus area with financial area? The main buildings are so similar! Cheers bro! I really enjoy the series!
School of Lore
10:10 The sessions court and high court in my city of Nagpur look pretty similar , though they are a little far apart from each other .
I think Swank Square University would be a decent name for the college.
On the next episode of Overcharged Egg taken out of context: "Oh they store 1500 kids!"
Just 9mins in. I am loving this build already.
12:24...what does it mean?
cafe culture along the waterfront for the financiers during the day looking out over the water to downtown would seem to be really suitable. Walking, trams, cafe and restaurants
