Amazing video. as a dad I appreciate the bond with spending time with your son on these shoots. and I also appreciate you explanation of setting up the depth in the shot.
Saw first image - breath disappeared. Will - haven't been able to do the spot justice . . . .me - what kind of place is it!!!!!!! Crikey. . . . . . .Great to share these spaces and moments with the next generation down. Love it when one of my girls comes out with me. I don't get as many images, but I'm stoked to have them engaging in nature and noticing and appreciating what's around them in this beautiful world. May you have many more adventures together.
Thanks for another very useful clip on editing. I would probably never have looked deeply into color grading, but combined with your other technique of painting masks onto an image, I can see the value. I also empathize regarding taking you son on a shoot. I take my 5-years-old granddaughter on short trips, and she has an absolute ball with an ancient Casio I've given her. We just go together and it's a great time for us both. Have a great, safe Christmas, and all the best for the new year.
Watching Your tutorial I'm always enjoy 🙂 thank You for another tutorial 🙂 tool brush I was started to use more often and I see already that this is what I was looking for 🙂 thank you so very much that You are share Your knowledge with us ❤
A master craftsman at work in the field and studio. So very helpful. So very beautiful. Loved seeing your son. He looked keen too, climbing around the rocks. Thanks William, always grateful.
What an absolutely stunning location and to be able to share it with your son is so special. As usual your calm and methodical approach is so informative and wonderfully helpful. Thank you
So nice to have these memories shared with your son, it truly creates a special bond ❤ The image is just out of this world, the place is amazing and your edit does it justice.
Nice video William. I've been there recently. What an incredible spot it is. So magical. I found it very hard to capture the feeling of it with the cam. I like the haze you got and the bluer shadows you got there
Thanks a lot mate. Yes, it's a very special location and so easy to access too, which certainly isn't always the case. Plenty to take in within the canyon and it can be quite overwhelming with all the possibilities. After a dozen or so visits, I feel like I could continually return and find some kind of detail to capture. Plenty more canyons out there to explore though. This summer is the plan. Thanks again.
That's a great video Will. Not only seeing the field work and being able to share it with your son, but to then see the process of editing to bring it to life. Excellent advice and I'm looking forward to my next edit with this information in mind. Thanks!
I very much appreciate your process and explanation of making a photo look natural and how to bring the photo to life! I am not big on focus stacking to make a photo sharp from front to back because as you said, that’s not how our eye views the world. I’ve been learning a lot from your channel! Thanks so much for all your insight and great videos!
Another great video. Really like the way you start in the field giving us your intention of what you hope to capture, followed by the edit focussing on specific techniques to make that particular image stand out. Your son is very fortunate to be growing up in Fiordland with an 'outdoors' kind of dad.
That was a great start to finish look Will! Great place, I imagine timing with the light & sun placement would be crucial? Also great to be able to take your son to work :)
Hi Will. Great video as always. My daughter is coming up on 3 now. Would you think this is a good time to start taking her out on shoots? Likewise I’m keen for her to have my appreciation for the world around her. So many kids often miss out on that opportunity. Tnx
Thank you 🙏🏻 Yeah definitely. Just some short and sweet ones will do the trick. Been dragging mine along to sunsets and sunrises since they were 6 months 😅 just gotta remember the photography will always come second on those trips.
Thanks. The vertical didn’t work, because the lower part of the waterfall is too faint. So you end up with strong upper and lower parts in the frame, with nothing in the middle.
Beautiful video and tutorial. Stunning location and image. I don't use the colour grading tool. I think because I have never really understood its use. Glad you could take your son with you. I think it is important to share your interests, job, with them. In your case it instills that love for the environment. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful photography! It is very true that location is so important for photography. How do you find your location? Is it through google maps/earth? Is it by asking locals? Thanks in advance William, your work is incredible.
Exploration has always played a big role in my photography, its what keeps it fun and exciting, the thrill and call of the unknown. Whether 20 minutes from the car going aroud some cliffs on the coast, or days into the mountain valleys here. Where I live is expansive wilderness with many falls, lakes, mountains, rivers and valleys so there is unlimited potential. I will use google earth, topo maps and just some intuition. Thanks mate!
I'm really upset about myself that I didn't have the balls to go through that knee-deep water to get into the canyon 😭 I have to get in there next time! Awesome spot and great video as always mate!
@@WilliamPatinoPhotography Many thanks, that gives me some encouragement to perhaps use a pol filter a bit less. I was greatly interested to see you do not use a tripod except under extreme situations. I am now 80 and found carrying a tripod on a walk a real nuisance. I just rely on (Olympus) IBIS and do the best I can. Seeing that a professional photographer completely changed the way I work. Thanks for the way you have changed my photography. I am enjoying what I do a lot more and if anything it has improved.
Love that Judah was there for this ❤ so special
3:55 I love this angle with the trees lit up in the background and the falling water backlit tops it off.
Cheers. I have a few frames of the canyon wall and falling rain but no time to show them in this one. Thanks mate.
Amazing video. as a dad I appreciate the bond with spending time with your son on these shoots. and I also appreciate you explanation of setting up the depth in the shot.
Thank you mate 🙏🏻💚
Great video and some really useful editing tips … I particularly like the way you explain the reason for each editing step.
My pleasure, thank you mate 🙏🏻
Mate, I love that you brought your son along. Keep that love for nature and photography going
Thanks brother 🙏🏻
Ur calmness and humility always feels so welcoming and makes for a lovely watch and listen.
That means a lot, thank you 🙏🏻
Fantastic video Will, yet again. Love seeing your son out with you. That’s precious ❤
Beautiful photos, and lovely quality time with your dear son. He is so blessed to have you, Mr William!
Thanks, Will, great getting out with your young fella having the dad/son time and the capture was great as well. Enjoy!
Brilliant result 😀👍
Thanks mate 🙏🏻

Haha, thanks a lot mate 👊🏻
Beautiful image.
Beauty in nature and family - two pillars supporting a happy life!
A great spot and interesting walk through the processing, cheers.

@@WilliamPatinoPhotography but I'm not your mate I'm a wannabe that worships the ground you walk on :-) (and remember my sarcastic streak LOL)

Too kind. Thank you, as always :)

I just started watching your videos recently. you are fast becoming one of my favorite landscape photographers. love your work mate.
That means a lot. Thanks mate.

Great location and great video. Thanks Will.
Hi Will. I always enjoy your work, having your son join you makes it even more special. Do you always shoot in auto white balance? 👍
Thanks mate. And yeah, usually just leave it on auto and adjust in post.
That was a great start to finish look Will! Great place, I imagine timing with the light & sun placement would be crucial? Also great to be able to take your son to work :)
Thank you Phil 👊🏻
Wonderful picture and commentery. I am surprised to learn that you took this pic handheld at half a second.
Thanks. Yes, I’m exclusively handheld unless it’s astro. Cheers ☺️

Great photo and tutorial. Did you try any portrait shots to get the water flow below included?
Thanks. The vertical didn’t work, because the lower part of the waterfall is too faint. So you end up with strong upper and lower parts in the frame, with nothing in the middle.

Will, for planning did you also pic the time of day to have the light streaming in for the shoot?
Thanks. Yeah, just need to avoid the golden hours really, then there's enough ambient light up there simply due to the opening of the canyon.
I'm really upset about myself that I didn't have the balls to go through that knee-deep water to get into the canyon 😭
I have to get in there next time!
Awesome spot and great video as always mate!
Better off being safe than sorry, especially when it comes to moving water. Next time!
Love it ❤

the image is very good but in my eye the video frame is way better capturing the water fall
Nice but even a two shot bracket would have given you more options...
There’s more than enough dynamic range in the single file.
☺
Great shot and love the location. Thank you for sharing both the location and the editing.
