    Hey William, thanks for your video. Not sure if you've considered this but you're on Indigenous land so those waterfalls definitely have names and more than a few people have seen them. I get what you're trying to say - these areas are remote and free from development and, at face value, the impact of colonisation. There is no such thing as the "wilderness" - it's all Indigenous land. Keep up the good work.

Your videos are very entertaining and funny while still including loads of tips, keep them coming. I did wonder if you would get lost once you were in the bush. Including a bit of bird sounds was good too, it adds to the experience and I would suggest more of those natural sounds, NZ bird song is unique :-). Great tutorial on the processing! Another great video mate. I only know a few Photoshop basics so it was good to see what rasterise means and how to make use of the transform tool.

  • @diekritischestimme
    @diekritischestimme Рік тому

    Hey Will, great video and tutorial, I learned quite a lot, but I was wondering about your process of using the transform tool in the end.
    I found this transforming to be very destructive for details, I only use it in panoramic shots (which have higher resolution anyway and more details), if I have to.
    (Same goes for correcting the horizon line, better to get that right in camera!). My solution to this is to capture a little bit more than I need and then I can always crop in without losing the composition I wanted to have. I know on ultrawide-angle this can be challenging, and in this example, would further complicate the process, but you could just take two vertical shots of this scenery, blend them together and then crop out as much as you want to get the perfect composition again!
    PS: I also do not trust the auto alignment, because of ghosting issues, in this image I would have blended the images together myself, with a layer mask and simply do the transition on the mossy rock lines which are between the ferns and the water. I found this to be a very good method, if there is such an area without much texture anyway (same goes for let's say: Foreground shot, then water in the middle and more landscape at the end. Usually I just blend in those areas where there is not much texture anyway - and if you look at the photo merge from photoshop you will often see that the programme is actually doing the same taking the easiest part to patch two files together!)

    Great shot Will, definitely earned. Have experienced the same in Fiordland a number of times where it can take upwards of an hour to get 300 - 400 metres ahead. Frustrating but very rewarding when you do break through to a beautiful spot. The editing was a clear and concise work flow for one of the more trying shots out in the field. Hadn't heard anyone teaching the open/closed curtains before when it comes to revealing layers. Well done all round. Your videos just keep getting better.

    Only just discovered your video's. They are super good. around the 15:00 minute mark, you talk about focus stacking the image while the ferns are actually moving. I've been having difficulty in focus stacking things with moving plants or other subjects. Photoshop really has a problem in stacking the images & has difficulty aligning the images before the stack. Any tips on how you go about this in post?

    Wow...how wonderful to be able to find such a beautiful place. Great story and lesson. One question, i use the Sony 24-105mm on A7riii which is fixed f4. I know you use a fixed f 2.8. If i shoot image at say f11 is there any difference between both lenses at f11? Just interested from hand holding perspective, hope my question makes sense.

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  Рік тому

      Thank you. Nope, no difference in depth of field. One lens might be slightly sharper due to the glass but that’s all. F/11 on a cropped sensor or medium format will be slightly different though.

    I haven't watched yet will do today. In the meantime I'm surprised you photo stack considering your last superb editing tips vlog where you wanted a 'natural eye' to view the image. I'm a one ONLY shot kinda guy and think its more natural to have some things in the foreground/background a little out of focus therefore directing the eye as to where it should be going. To me stacking multiple images ontop of each other is indeed extreme photo manipulation but nearly EVERY vlogger does it. Sigh. Thoughts?

    • @TheycallmeWade
      @TheycallmeWade Рік тому

      A lot of people do it. It’s just another technique i guess. No one is right or wrong as it’s an artistic impression of a location/subject with many variations of how to direct an eye all resulting in manipulation

    • @timshields8720
      @timshields8720 Рік тому

      @@TheycallmeWade my point is that it goes against the grain as to what he was highlighting in his last editing video - which was a breath of fresh air due to it NOT following along with the MASSES. Just saying and yes I know alot of people do it... as will 'alot of people be doing AI soon'.

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  Рік тому

      In the real world, when I look at something, it’s sharp and in focus. I want that same effect in my images. Look at the mountain and it’s sharp, look at the ferns and they’re sharp, etc. if I printed something 60 inches and the entire foreground was soft, it would drive me crazy and be a huge distraction. Ultimately it’s all subjective. You do what best works for you mate :)

    I’m sorry but this is not a positive comment - but it’s not negative about the content. I couldn’t watch this for more than a few minutes, the reason being the sound. I don’t care that the sound of the video itself isn’t very good, it is after all outside, so a lot of things can happen, the thing I don’t like is the background music - I find it very annoying. I’ve noticed this in other videos by you, and I don’t really understand why that ‘elevator music’ is necessary. Sorry for this :)

    • @WilliamPatinoPhotography
      @WilliamPatinoPhotography  10 місяців тому

      All good. Just slipped through on the editing process, with it being too loud. Having no music at all is an interesting psychological thing, where it can almost feel too slow and lack emotion. Obviously it’s subjective and there’s always time and place for no music. Cheers.
