66 years of age and never touched a camera before I retired, now 4 years ago. And now I am obsessed by photography. Tried to learn some Photoshop on my own, but I keep forgetting how it works. Lr is easier and works fine for me. It's guys like you, who help me make better edits of my photo's. You explain things very well, calm and precise. Thank you so much. I liked and subscribed immediately. Greetings from Belgium and Happy New Year.
Hi Stephaan! Thanks so much for your message, really appreciated your kind words! I'm glad to hear you have found a love for photography and very excited to read that this video was helpful to you! Happy holidays! 👋
I finally found a tutorial that answers my questions about the tool. I've watched a ton of these and usually the 'teacher' spends 3/4 of the video showing what each slider does and then quickly edits a photo. They never explain why they chose to use a certain colour. 'I want to make this more moody so let's add blue to shadows and green to the midtones.' Ok, but WHY did you add blue and green? WHY some other colours wouldn't work? You really took the time to explain that and I'll watch some of your other videos for sure!! 🙌🏻
With this 14-minute video, you have enabled one to present his/her work with probably infinite creative combinations. IMHO, the first six minutes are the most crucial part of this video incredibly explaining how the Color Grading tool works. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Actually, you are the only one who normally explained to me how to use color grading tool. I was sliding it like crazy without knowing what blending and balance actually mean, and now I know that they are not for specific color but for all shadows, midtones, and highlights.
@@SightseeingStan Thanks for reply, I am also really worried about the colors on diffrent devices and monitors. For example on my phone (ips)colors of photos looking not the same as on my oled laptop. Could you make video about monitors and colors, callibrations. I wouod like to hear your explaination on this topic.
Dude I've watched half the clip and would already give you a double thumbs up if UA-cam allowed it. Very clear, informative, demystifying, on point, no time wasted. Thank you
Great job: clean, direct, presentation without (thankfully) wasting 2-3 minutes with stupid intro package. Excellent presentation, I think I finally "get" color grading and how to put it to use. Thanks!
Thank you for simplfying the Color Wheel Feat. I have been attempting to use it, but never fully grasped how it worked. With your demo, I'm now more confident that I'll be able to utilise this feature better! 👌
Thanks Stan. Nice and clear starting with the basics and building up. I appreciate the on/off and the closeup to really see the differences. Also the use of complementary colors was good too. I would enjoy an “advanced” video a little later. I didn’t notice the background music too much, but as someone with a hearing problem, the less of that the better. Thanks. I’m subscribing. Geoff
Stan, I have just started watching your videos and I find them very very informative and very easy to follow. The problem I have is that you talk very very fast. Is there any possibility that you could slow down you’re talking in your videos, a little bit, which would make it far easier to follow and understand thank you very much and please keep continuing to share your knowledge with us. Thank you😊
I'm glad you are finding the videos helpful! Sorry to hear that I'm talking a bit too fast, I will keep it in mind! A little trick you could use, would be to slow down the video in UA-cam. You can do that when you click on the settings wheel in the bottom right corner.
Came here to say that too! Showing the gradient really helps in understanding what each option dors, and for me a big takeaway was that the shadows adjustment had a really strong effect on the 75-50% grey, the mids to the 50-25% grey. And then the way the mids adjustment could be made more/less prominent by the slider ... I've always ignored this panel in lrc, but will be using it more from now on! Thanks.
Perfect explanation of how it can be used. I've been using lightroom for years but I have stayed clear of color grading as it wasn't clear how powerful it can be if used correctly. Nice work man!
Hey, your explanation is so clearest than others. I wondered regard color grading but since I watched your videos, those doubt was removed from my mind. By the way, I'm watching you from dominican republic.
That was an excellent explanation. Now I understand that the color of the highlights can be different than the mid and shadow tones and how to use the balance slider. Thanks!
I’m just subscribed due to the high quality of your presentation. I finally get the color grading controls after this excellent tutorial and I just want to say thanks Stan.
This was a fantastic tutorial. I've always hated editing my photos as I've never totally knew what to do to give them that extra little something, but I'll certainly start messing with the colour grading tool now!
Thank you! I too struggle with the color grading (in ACR). I didn’t think about using the sliders. Duh. I tried to pinpoint the color using the actual wheel. And I didn’t find the music distracting at all.
First time I watch one of your videos. Great explanation, very clear and step by step. I agree with the others ref the music being distracting but I did sign up. Keep going!
Damn this video tutorial is so good .. like the one about the calibration tool I watched before .. I finally understand the tools clearly and I actually misunderstood some of the functions before. I really wanna thank you for these videos !!
wow everything is perfect. The segments of the video, the explanation, and specially THE PHOTOS BEING EDITED, WOW they have some amazing compositions, you are a complete artist. Congratulations
This is a fantastic breakdown of one of the most impactful tools in LR! I think adobe could make this much less limited though. After using Davinci Resolve for so long and coming back to grading in LR it's unbelievably limited in comparison. Adobe please give us scopes and proper control when editing in Lightroom!
Probably the best fundamental explanation of color grading I've ever seen. Makes more sense to me now...thanks. A suggestion regarding the production of your video...I found the music distracting. Perhaps lower the volume of it.
Nice work explaining and demonstrating all the sliders associated with the colour grade panel. Other channels ignore one or more sliders, maybe because they don't know what they do? Anyway, my jaw dropped when you showed the hue/sat sliders. I didn't know they were there as my LR defaults to them hidden. It's such a pain to try to adjust these on the graph! Two thumbs up Stan!
Thanks for video, i am new to lrc and ps. After watching other youtubers regarding color grading i have decided to hide it from from tools visible in lrc. After watching your video, I am gonna try it. You explained it nicely. Thanks a lot
Awesome and clear af. Fun thing is the more you look to your image while adjusting color grading less you can tell something changed, just like with scents, you need to refresh them by sniffing some roasted coffee beans and with image you need to look away and focus your eyes at something far and then something close with few reps and also flip the image a few times.
Definitely one of the best explanations i have come across with this and the examples speak well to the power of the color grading! Thanks for the tips!! Gained a subscriber, keep the videos coming!

Wow. Thank you four your clear and easy to understand explanation.
