Incredible work! More 3D please! You explain so well! I really like that your videos are long to fully understand what you are doing. Congratulations!
Wow. Incredible work Dave.
Thank you, Kevin! Appreciate the kind words :)
been waiting on this and see how it could be done on davinci- thank you
You're welcome!!
Do you know any good sources for Fusion-tutorials like this one? I always liked VideoCopilot tutorials, but they only do After Effects (which I don't have anymore). I'm trying to find decent special effects Fusion tutorials, but most of them are too 'snappy' and only do what's popular at that moment.
I'm pretty new to Fusion and I'm trying to get things done like watersplashes. I do find some good Emitter tutorials, but nothing like watersplashes (3D).
I'm converting older 2d movies to stereoscopic 3d. In the movie I'm doing now, the person walks through a waterfall. So the moment he walks through it, I want to 'throw' some watersplashes that you would get, towards the viewer.
Fusion is the equivelant of After Effects, isn't it?
Cheers
Apologies I didn't response sooner. Yes, Fusion is Blackmagic's AE. And sadly I don't think that any other channels are doing old VCP tutorials in Fusion.
I've thought about doing more but haven't gotten around to it and haven't had the time anyway.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
This was amazing!
I just wish there was an easier way to separate the shadow from the plane.
Thanks for making this in depth tutorial!
I agree!! I wish it functioned like other programs, such as Blender.
Anyway , glad you liked it! Thanks for the comment!
Awesome tutorial Dave. Helped me loads - especially the shadow separation and pass through lights. I'm assuming that the debris effect could have been achieved with the same results using a particle system instead of a duplicate 3D, and if so, what would be the pros / cons? Cheers.
Thanks for watching and glad it was helpful!!
Yes, you could do it with a particle system. I actually tried it, but it really slowed down the process and added more nodes than doing it this way. Also, because of the nature of this tutorial, I didn't need to animate them too much, so I just opted for the duplicate 3D node, and some keyframes. I may make another video about that subject.
As mentioned, it's not obvious, but there is a way to bring in 3D objects into the particle system, but it just didn't work as efficiently as the way I showed in this video, which is why I went with Duplicate3D. Hope that made sense. :)
Thanks for sharing. Do you believe that could be easier work the movement of truck (tire also) and shadow on blender and then bring to fusion for composiring? I’m just learning for vfx and trying to improve my workflow. Your comments are appreciated.
Possibly! I was just trying to keep everything mostly self contained, and show how certain things could be done in Fusion.
But I do think some things are just more fluid in Blender. The only "issues" I could see is when you have to make adjustments.
Thanks for the soon answer ❤
if Fusion just had HDRI lighting it would have maked sense.
3D👍😎
My GPU sucks so bad that it not even loads this video

Thanks for taking a look, man!
Uhm, interesting but I feel like Davinci has a long way to go in regards to keeping up with After Effects. The Element 3D one from After Effects that came out YEARS ago, looked realistic to an extent. The one in Davinci looked like very bad CGI.
Do you know any plugin like Element 3D for Davinci?
I have been looking for a plugin or any way to make 3D logos in Davinci like i used to do in Element 3D in After Effects, but like you said its looks like a bad CGI in all tutorials. So I can leave AE yet :(
They may have just done it with the newest 18.5 release. I'll look at it soon and upload a video soon after.
I agree, the way it's set up right now isn't ideal, especially having to use a workaround for shadows.
Having said that, there seems to be a plan to actually add shadows in a new version. (Not in 18.5 yet)
