While Blender's compositor is certainly highly capable, Fusion has a lot more features and functionality for the same low price - sorry Blender! So in this video, I'll break down a recent vfx shot I created and show you how to get started compositing your own VFX in Fusion. As we go, I'll compare Blender's compositor with Fusion's to show how the two differ.

Lol imagine Blender buying Fusion to krep up quality both for Fusion and itself
Someone is in trouble

Friendship ended with blender compositor, now fusion is my best friend
LMFAO I was just about to type this!
Rana?
Indian Facebook is the best.
@@Fahadparvez1 that's actually a pakistani facebook thing
I remember hearing this joke in Gumball
"Blender will remember that"
The magic man himself has done it again! You totally ROCKED this effect for us! It was a pleasure working with ya. Oh and... RIP sock phone... Gone, but never forgotten.
The pleasure was all mine! And yes, the sock phone lives on in our hearts ;(
Am I missing something here?
@@thisisartman i guess 14:36
why doing all these extra steps? u could just import the video as a plane and make everything in blender and render the finished thing there, i dont understand the benefits of compositing neither in fusion nor in blender, cause colour correction and so on u can still do with the renderd video
Loved that per-channel-grain-match-trick!
I cant believe I haven't found this channel before, this is seriously high quality stuff! I feel like I need to learn this program now..
Another killer tutorial! Few channels present workflow in such a clear and concise way. Very informative!
This frikkin ROCKS!
Everything most tutorials don't show... Its all here. Thanks aloy
This tutorial was incredibly detailed and easy to understand. Thank you for sharing your vfx and teaching skills!
This channel is just... just perfection. You always come around with the exact topics I mess around with in the exact same software, it's like magic. I've discovered the magic of Fusion a little while ago and I'm diving deep into it these days, so I'm curious to see what kind of tutorials you'll come up with for it in the future! Gotta say, that Patreon is looking reallll enticing :)
Hey Myles! It nice to have your support across the videos. We must have similar interests for the topics to align like they do!
This was so well presented that even a knucklehead like me was able to grasp a lot of things. Keep it up man, looking forward to more awesome stuff like this! ❤️
Hey Agniv, thanks so much dude!
@@InLightVFX YES! Although this is advanced for my DR level right now; I picked up on several things I did not know about; which will help me get to this level.
I'm incredibly impressed with the quality and information density of this video 👑
So AWESOME and I so love Fusion and Davinci Resolve. Gave up After Effects couple years ago. THANK YOU :)
Davinci Resolve is really an underdog. I used to edit video using Premier and After Effect, then i know that Davinci can do both, whoop i end my Adobe subscription. Haha
Yes! Save that money!
danimunf - give the idea of donating to DaVinvi a thought too. :)
@Ale Yeah, Getting the latest updates without having to renew every year is super nice.
I love the transition to Resolve. Resolves color grading and compositing features are greattt. I started using it few months ago and I fell in love with it. And for those who are wandering, its free version is completely enough, especially for people starting out. I belive the free version is only restricted by some minor effects and exporting in 8K or mayby it was 4K... Idk. The thing is, it doesnt have water marks or any weird restrictions like some other "trail" versions of some "softwares" for editing have. it is great! :)
I agree, the free version is quite capable!
it's so funny to use fusion as a hobbyist and see that you're "restricted" to "only" 4k
This is the best introduction to Fusion that I've seen. Comparing Fusion back to Blender really helps. I had no idea you could set Fusion up to work in a vertical orientation like Natron or Nuke. We use Resolve as our primary editor. Looks like we'll have to give it a run for comp as well. Thanks for the helpful video!
Hey Steve. I'm glad the comparison was helpful. Yes, Fusion's nodes are quite flexible in the orientation. I wish it was more built for vertical-only and sometimes the connections can get a bit wacky. But overall it's easy to stay organized. Hope you find Fusion helpful in your workflow!
I feel like it's worth noting that Fusion existed long before DaVinci, and was formerly known as eyeon Fusion, and it was competing with Nuke for a while. As a matter of fact it's history dates back to 1987 with it's first public release in 1996, while Nuke was released in 1993, so it's a very mature compositor and not something new in the market.
watching your videos make me realise how much i have to learn . thank you
7:31 I know you warned that this color workflow is not the ideal approach, but I'll just say anyway for academic purposes that it's generally more correct to convert the footage to linear, rather than the CG elements to log. That way everything is still composited in the same linear space. Then, either convert to log on output (when rendering DPX) or leave linear (when rendering EXR).
Great Tutorial! It's nice to see Fusion getting more exposure.
you are simply awesome keep doing more blender with fusion
Man your tutorials are so nice!!
More of this! Blender to Fusion along with comparisons is extremely helpful!! Excellent 👏👏👏
Great, glad you found it helpful!
thank you for this tutorial.... the delivery is very smooth...
thanx alot , this video definitly makes one understand the basic concept and usage of the fusion tab / fusion. I was hesitent to use resolve for anything besides basic video editing , but this makes everything crystal clear.
You're very welcome! I, too, am still discovering just how much Resolve can do.
This is so good, Very well explained.
I think I will be using fusion for compositing from now on XD.
Amazing Outro btw XD!
Thank you Charan! Definitely give a try and let me know what you think!
Very nice! More Fusion stuff please as this was super helpful.
I don't even know the programs you are talking about but it is so well explained that it is enjoyable!
That was awesome!
You make Fusion look a lot less scary!
Production quality: MADNESS!
Absolutely amazing! Like always! 🙇🏻♂️
Im so glad i grew up with blender compositor, but dude this is much better
Don't hesitate to make more videos about Fusion!!
Guess I have to completely rebuild my workflow - awesome work, thank you
fusion has so much potential as a Nuke replacement, but I still prefer how quickly Nuke can detect EXR layers and create new render layers. I hope blackmagic continues to support it and maybe one day there will be actual competition for Nuke!
I dunno. I use both and they both have their +'s and -'s. But the resolve 17 live announcement shocked me. they did 99 percent on resolve and like 2 minutes on fusion. which worries me. if they drop support for fusion there will be a lot of very upset people
There are a plugin called reactor that split exr files a.k.a. hos_SplitExr_Ultra
plus lets also not forget 300$ versus 9,000$ (and also can get 90 percent of fusion for free)
Fusion used to be incredibly expensive as well 20 years ago (it's actually older, than Nuke). But the downfall of the previous owner, let Fusion fall behind.
Really awesome! Good work
i just love ur work its awsm
and i learn much about fusion thanks
Really good tutorial. Thank you sir!
Dude you are amazing, incredible tutorials. you got a new subscriber!
great tutorial!! would love to see more. the connection between blender and fusion/resolve in general is too rare, so this is so cool to see. :)
Thanks Daniel, it's amazing how much you can do combining the capabilities of both!
PROPS - amazing and fun composite job!
Great tutorial. We have just purchased BMPCC6K and very likely will switch into similar workflow soon :)
gorgeous tutorial
Cool and very good Tutorials. Thanks
Knowing a lot about Blender but nothing about Resolve, this just might be what gets me into it

Thank you!
Awesome work buddy.
Hey thanks man!
Yes! And wow it has a very Nuke feel, very cool!
Thank you, Mario! Yes, there are some nice Nuke-like aspects to it. Still missing some nice Nuke features too but there tends to be a workaround.
Wow this is complex, but so well taught, thank you
Awesome tutorial. I wonder why I haven't stumbled upon your channel earlier! Subscribed to the Patreon. Yay!
I really appreciate that, thank you!

+1 sub that was the best compositing explanation ive seen
Thx man, great vid

Great video!
another beautiful thing is 3d camera tracking a live action shot in fusion studio, and importing it into blender. been a life saver
actually revisiting this comment. blenders camera tracking is top notch. and being that I bring things into blender anyway its a time saver for sure. the object tracking also works really well. blender 3.0 is amazing, especially the revamped shadow catcher.
Great job !
It's really great that you compared blender.
it's great that u mentioned it. 'cz i was not really interested in looking how a yet another compositor works all on its own

GREAT tutorial!!!
This is some straight sorcery right here.
Really well made ! Happy to see my bike model in a video like that :)
Hey Théo! That bike was perfect for the shot. Really awesome modeling.
Good job dude.
I am actually teaching my self Fusion and DaVinci Resolve in general and I learned a lot Thanks!
Sweet, glad this helped!
okey we reeeeally need a fusion tutorial by YOU
With or without the sock I am still subscribed 🤣 BTW really nice work! Starting to learn compositing and hope to see more tutorials about it ☺️
Haha I'm glad you were able to see past the sock!

This is awesome stuff man, you got 1 more sub
Great work, Subbed
InLightVFX: Sorry Blender, this is my new compositor
Blender: Who are you?
My head is gonna explode with this nodes stuff
The first video I've seen from you, it's great stuff! I can't get my head around people compositing in Blender. If I'm being generous, I'd call Blender compositing garbage but fine for REALLY basic comp tasks. I've always recommended either using fusion or Nuke non-commercial.
Thank you, Ash! Indeed, Fusion is a great big step up from Blender compositing.
More on Fusion please!
You get better audio quality with a phone inside a sock than UA-camrs who use professional mics.
You are insaaaane
just found your channel you have amazing tutorial love from india !! please make more vfx tut
Hey there, so glad you found it!
😊 😊 🙏
that was impressive. thanks for sharing
Wow . Amazing
Brilliant 👍👍💕
Another great video!!!!
Thank you Jonathan!
Fantastic
Espectacular!!!
I know the dirty secret. Of upscaling cg shots to 4k. 4k blu ray enthusiasts rage to heavens.
great!
Your workflow is good. Usually fusion user has bad habit use from left two right. And connect all stuff to one node.
Nuke user usually work from top to bottom. And not more than 3 connector for each merge node.
Thanks! Nuke certainly wins in terms of node layout and organization. But it is possible to have some sense of organization in Fusion, too.
Crazy good
one of the best compositor tbh
Dude! Just found out about your channel! Its awesome! See you on Patreon for sure!
Sorry fusion and blender nuke is my compositor 😂
Yeah it's more awesome! Although the interface of nuke sucks whereas fusion has an amazing one.
Haha indeed, Nuke is THE compositor. Actually a lot of what I'm teaching in this video is from a Nuke course I just took (of course, applied to Fusion). It's nice to have Fusion as a free option to learn with and be able to use for commercial projects.
just noticed a few weeks ago there is a free version of it
@@InLightVFX matching grade in nuke is just soo much easier.
@@NomTom yeah I use the free one because I am not making any money
really nice job, there still some corrections on the bright edge of the water and the cloths stand contact with water also the water area under the stairs should be a little darker than the rest.
