Thank you very much for the superb explanation and demonstration. I found it much easier to understand than the manufacturer's instructions and it made me confident to use the product.
I wouldn’t say superb, just an average demonstration. Personally I would buy the kit with the plunger unless you have a tool on hand that can pull and push a vacuum
I'm not a car geek, so videos like this are a godsend. Fixing windshield chips isn't rocket science, but it is one of those things where it helps to see the process done. You've provided a clear overview and step by step instructions. Thanks for the helping hand!
Great product. Doesn't completely rid of the chip (nothing ever will) but it's not noticeable now and I'm no longer worried it'll get worse. Thanks for the video, it was much better than the supplied instructions.
I got very good results & this quick n easy tutorial helped me avoid making a mistake with this particular style of repair kit. Getting the plastic threads secured in position is not easy. I applied some vibration to the glass as well to help completely fill the cracks.
Also, the sooner you fix the chip/crack, the better the result, i applied it to mine and it improved 70%, but i waited about 2-3 weeks after the damage (damage happened during a coast-to-coast move and it rained, and accumulated dirt and grime, so the cracks, while reduced are still visible as i assume absorbed moisture/sediment particles and the resin can't completely go in there, was still a worthy temporary improvement while i replace the whole windshield, also structurally the cracks won't get bigger because they are filled. So if you suffer damage, fix it asap.
Please note, if it’s cloudy and 45 - 50 degrees F, I used my windshield defroster for 25min and it worked like a charm! My crack was the same size as his to give you an idea.

Yeah, that was kind of a pain in the ass. I can see how the other type window repair kits that stick the thing over the crack would be a bit easier to apply. But, you're right, still works! And you get multiple uses with Rain-x.
You answered every question i had after watching multiple unhelpful videos. Thank you! I will be doing this later today, and you gave me the confidence of knowing exactly how and what to do.
So, I'm just going to recommend to NOT push from the inside at all. I used this on two chips on two different cars. I followed the packaging instructions and recommendations from this and other videos about giving a gently push from inside to help work any air bubbles out and to help the resin to flow inside. I gave barely any pressure (even less on the second windshield) and I ended up with 7-9" cracks on both instead of just a little chip. Now, where the chip was, it looks pretty damn good. Resin filled that in nicely - I just have long cracks now! Do yourself a favor and don't press from the inside!!!!
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Thanks for sharing so others will know to be very careful if pushing on the glass. It’s probably better to not even try pushing on it.
I went to get my usual product and it was sold out so I ended up getting this one. I’m not too sure if I like this for suction cup thing. Good video thank you.
Thank u I was doing it all wrong per instructions I was putting the resin in the top part and wondering why nothing was coming out lol waited for 1hr and still nothing lol
I guess our roads don’t hold up as well as other states. I get a lot of chips too. I moved to Mississippi a few months ago. Maybe it won’t be as bad over here.
I used this product and followed the video. Really poor results. It was a bullseye, still is a bullseye. I’m pretty mechanical and thought I had gotten the target directly in the bullseye of the tube. Seems the tool could not push the resin into the opening. Can this be redone after cured?
I would try it again, but depending what type of problem it is, i would do the following: If it is a bullseye with a crack, I would take a thumbtack and reopen a passage way to the crack. Clean it out good and retry again. Would also try to do it inside garage where minimum UV is hitting it so it doesn't cure early. If just a bullseye and no crack. I would use the clear strip in the kit and apply resin with a strip immediately over it. If you have to buy another kit, the Permatex system puts a lot more pressure on the crack and might be a better solution. I have used both and have gotten about the same results overall from both kits. Good luck with it.
I see the pro kits actually drill a small hole in the crack which will apparently allow the resin to go into the crack. Maybe the resin couldn't get in with your particular crack. Did you use heat when you did your repair? He doesn't use it in this video, but he did say the heat will help thin the resin and get in the crack better. A commenter on another video said he used a match/lighter and placed the flame about 1 inch under the crack from inside the vehicle for 3 seconds, took it off for 1 second and did that three times (3 on, 1 off, 3 on, 1 off 3 on then stop). I used that method and I got good results, although I didn't do it any other way so maybe it would have come out with or without heat.
I would not use this kit because it depends on gravity to allow the resin to enter the crack. I don’t think it will work well in your situation. Instead, I would get the Permatex repair kit. It actually uses a plunger to put pressure onto the resin and should have a better chance of getting the resin into the crack. I have a video on that kit also. Good luck with it.
It should have finished clear enough where you don't have to polish it. When scraping with the razor blade perpendicular to the glass I could see some of the scraped off pieces having a foggy color but the rest of it remaining on the windshield was clear as you would expect. Did you "cut" it off or scraped it?
@@FixItDepot It filled the chip wonderfully, and is invisible, except for where I scraped the small surface with the razor perpendicularly. This is my first time doing a windshield repair. There must be a way to polish the small circle of resin on the surface.
multiple ways, 1. you could try glass cleaner prep the surface then use 0000 steel wool designed for glass. personally if I a polishing due to glass filler i use my second option, which is 2. use a cork, like one found in a wine bottle the cork is a great polisher material on the glass.

I don’t know for sure, but the heat might make the crack spread. I bet the resin will still cure in your garage as long as some light is getting to it. It will just take a lot longer.
The 90 degree angle of the blade is what is specified in the instructions, but I do agree cutting it off might be a little faster. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@FixItDepot I've seen guys use sharper angles with the razor when removing the resin around the crack but then go 90 degrees when running blade over the crack.
That’s the recommended approach. I don’t know for sure if the resin will cure in the sun before the curing strip is in place, but don’t want take the chance.
I don't know why that would happen. I haven't seen that on mine. Maybe if the chip is more of a scallop? Maybe others can comment if they have seen the same issue.
I am not sure. Windshields are made with laminated glass which means there are layers of plastic between the glass. It needs ultraviolet light to cure the resin, so I am not sure. I wouldn’t leave it inside. Only needs about 15 minutes in sunlight. Probably about an hour if not sunny.
While I agree your method is the normal procedure most would use, including me, the details in the instructions ask to hold the blade at a 90 degree angle like I am showing in the video. @@FixItDepot I just checked it and it actually came out ok, the crack is still visible but I can’t feel it and it isn’t as obvious. Thanks for the video, it’s very helpful
I think the reason they recommend it to be used at 90 degrees is so you don’t cut into the repair. As long as you are careful with it, the angle probably doesn’t matter that much.
I know how to use the razor lol. The instructions call for holding it at a 90 degree angle from the glass, as I was doing. It actually works better that way, except for the sound it makes.
