Lyrics:
VERSE 1
Just one drink! Gonna keep it mellow.
Responsible night for a polite fellow
Say hello to my friends and comrades
Don’t tend to offend so I say perhaps
Just two drinks! As a social courtesy.
We can raise a glass to our past fraternity
And certainly a perfectly normal informal get together
But it’s been forever since we gathered so whatever
Just three drinks! For the sake of the old times.
Proceed with tequila shots with a dish full of cold limes.
The whole nine, laughing remembering all the old lines
Never used to work but I could em give another try
Just four drinks! Y’know, take the edge off.
I’ve had a hard week, I deserve to get sauced.
Pick up another round as my friends depart and
They may not stick around but I just got started.
CHORUS
Feel so much better than usual
I feel indisputable
[ohhhh]
I think that I might be beautiful
VERSE 2
Juuuuust five drinks! F***in' treat myself!
Pour the Dom Perignon from the back of the top shelf.
Spend like god put on airs to sell it
Crowd pretends not to care but I know they’re jealous, just
Six drinks! Let slip the dogs of war!
I’m gonna start a f***in' riot til I’m tossed out the front door
Zero to sixty I can turn on a dime, I’m hitting
bottom and I’m feeling like committing a crime. Just
Eight drinks! Maybe I’ve lost count?
I can’t remember the night, what I drank, or the amount.
I’m fading in and out my very consciousness is crumbling.
. . . Sorry, was I saying something?
Twelve drinks! Strolling out of the hospital.
Is it hair of the dog if you stay drunk and don’t stop at all?
Another night losing it more than I can afford
Was I just feeling bored? Am I that insecure?
CHORUS
Feel so much better than usual
I feel indisputable
[ohhhh]
But now I’m feeling so beautiful
Don’t wake me up from this spell I’m under if I’m still breathing
I know that I will be ugly when
I feel like myself again
[ohhhh]
But now I’m feeling so beautiful
BRIDGE
Bottle of scotch served on the rocks with a shot of cachaca
Vodka sake kamikaze with a handle of sherry a
cherry brandy with a jaeger chaser champagne float
A bourbon hot toddy in teacup of throat coat
Martini bellini negroni baileys kahlua sambuca
Soju paloma mojito gimlet frangelico guinness
Tequila manhattan a margarita old fashioned
Dry vermouth and something I can’t taste cuz I’m so trashed
Soldiering over I’m slower shoulder to shoulder with no one
Stumbling sobering making friends with a smoker
I know I’m less than upright, losing the fight with the ground
Then someone hits the lights as they close for the night now
Try to look at heaven and I can’t see the stars
A billion trillion eyes are winking as I walk between parked cars
Metabolizing liquor while I’m losing my friends
I’m gonna hate myself tomorrow then I’ll do it again
Naa na na na naa (etc)
CHORUS
Feel so much better than usual
I feel indisputable
[ohhhh]
But now I'm feeling so beautiful
Don’t wake me up from this spell I’m under if I’m still breathing
I know that I will be ugly when
I feel like myself again
[ohhhh]
But now I’m feeling so beautiful
My vision is blurry
As long as I’m thirsty
Nobody can hurt me hurt me hurt me
This is insane i love it

@@dogperson156 you mean including the ones he lists, right?
No one has mentioned this yet, but at the end of the song he throws up, falls down then the moment he rolls on his back the entire video turns into a dream sequence of him sliding down into darkness. The way most people die from alcahol is this exact thing. He was choking to death through the whole ending.
Wow, I'll never be able to look at it the same again. Also, something people don't mention as well is the fact that his mood changes to being a caring, responsible person to slow non energetic, moody guy is very on point to how drinking to much actually does to a person.
I always took it as him falling and hitting his head on the pavement. If you watch it back, the moment he starts stumbling he gets surrounded by that darkness, and rolls onto his back onto what looks like a curb. Red liquid starts to flow out from under him before he is quickly swept down a river of it. He then crashes into a rock and is flung off a cliff and straight into imagery of a brain, with hands that come out and grab it , followed by his head that wraps around it, hands still in place, as if grabbing his head in pain. He then falls again and violently crashes into numerous drinks, until he finally lands and is left as nothing but his upper body in a single spot light. From here, he looks tired and starts fading into the background and lays down and stops singing or moving, and the video ends with the darkness engulfing him completely. I may be biased because I've had a family member lose their life this exact way, but the imagery is pretty strong for the idea, and it's been my theory since the video first dropped so many years ago.
I think his head injury caused his vomiting and he suffocates when he turns over on his back, since we see him enter his home, there was no one to save him; He died alone, just like he feared he would.

Legitimately the belief of all alcoholics put into words. It's a broken mentality but it's a hope that all of us strive to prove: that something out there let's us survive the struggles of life.
"Trying to look at heaven, but I cant see the stars."
However, this hope amounts to nothing, because all that happens is he hates himself, he doesnt need others to do it for him.
Beautiful song.
Edit: I wanted to say that yes there is hope, but cripplingly terrible addictions like alcohol are not it.
Oh wow I just noticed that when he says that he doesn’t remember how much he drank, the voices skipped a number with the counting. First they said „6 drinks“ and then „8 drinks“ without counting the „7 drinks“

As someone who is addicted to addictions and less the thing itself yeah this song is 100 percent accurate
As someone with depersonalization-derealization disorder combined with maladaptive daydreaming disorder + addiction to food and videogames, all as ways to hide from reality by indulging in short-term meaningless pleasures, this song is basically word for word my experience (minus the actual drinking ofc) during my worst moments. I'm now thankfully far removed from that and have gotten way better, but I still love this song, I think because hearing it for the first time made me feel so seen. I also think that the genre of electronic is great for this sort of thing because the highs that you get and the fast-paced thoughts are something that electronic music really makes you feel to your core, even if you haven't quite experienced something like this before

This is one of my favorite depictions of alcoholism. The faces, his demons, appearing at the door before he's even touched a glass, showing that he knows exactly what's going to happen. "Just" being used for one, two, three, four, five, six, eight drinks because he's excusing himself, pretending like everything's fine until he's too drunk to care. By twelve drinks he's self-actualizing, he's coming to terms (again) with his alcoholism and questioning himself, comes face to face with his demons of addiction, and then decides to drown them in more booze. You can also see him gradually becoming less and less happy. The first few drinks he's smiling and having a good time, and as the song quickly spirals out of control getting faster and faster you can also see him spiraling out of control and hating it. Absolutely incredible depth and storytelling for a bouncy song that a lot of alcoholics party to without realizing the irony.
Good articulation of the message. Except that after 12 drinks you're not thinking anything.

“i know i will be ugly when i feel like myself again”
never having dealt with an addiction like this before, i feel like this song is a pretty accurate representation of how people feel when they give into it-which is really upsetting
I remember when I stopped drinking, I almost passed out in the tub while the flood alarm next to the toilet went off. KEK, thought it was my ears ringing XD
Well i had an alcohol addiction and i can tell you that it kinda is like that (at least for me that is). Sometimes i couldn't get up without downing another glass to counter the hangover. I still drink on some weekends but not in excessive amounts.
It's sad but last time I was happy was also last time I got drunk...
I dont drink very often, I've been drunk like 3 times in my life
Oh...It is.
I sent this to friends who quit drinking and they said they pretty much felt like this when they got rolling, really couldn't stop themselves and found it funny to see a artistic visualization of their own downward spiral.
As someone with an alcohol problem I relate to this song to a spiritual level.
I can’t relate. I never had anger issues with alcohol
the last chorus hits insanely hard, and its only if you focus on the details
1. notice how the "ooooh"s lose strength and emotion after the 1st one, 1st one is in 0:59 , second one in 1:45 and last one in 2:59 . it feels like it goes from singing to groaning
2. after the 1st chorus, he never goes back to smiling even if he acts like he's fine during the 2nd part of the song. he starts to realise this is wrong but just lets it happen
3. the faces get more and more red the further the song goes

I noticed that after he loses consciousness the heads don’t say “*just* 12 drinks.” They say “12 drinks” like he’s not even trying to make it seem like a small amount anymore. And after that point he’s not making up excuses either, just left to realize how deep he’s gotten in his addiction. The last thing left is his real reason (aside from now being addicted), that he does it to drown his insecurities and make his brain foggy so he’s unable to think about it so much while in his drunken state

@@Sampletexto1 bruh adds nothing to the conversation so whats the point?
Nice analysis
I totally agree. This whole song by definition is a song about justifying reasons to become "Drunk". I feel the heads stop saying "just # drinks" and change simply because right before they say "12 drinks", he asks if he was saying something, as he himself has forgotten why he is drinking. He cant even remember the number, because the number doesnt matter. The truth is, at a certain point, as you said, he doesnt care how many, he is simply drinking, and that's all he cares about. He wants to simply drink because, "As long as I'm thirsty, nobody can hurt me."
Edit: actually after another relisten, he jumps from "just 8 drinks" to asking if he was saying something. He leaves a hospital and then says "12 drinks". So he literally just lost track and doesnt care.

Jesus the way at the end he slams into drinks and lies on the ground with the skull cracked hits hard. The symbolism is real
@itsLaZu SalgadoA Most likely the way that the main character almost "Falls" into a rhythm, snowballing out of control from one drink to the other to keep themselves drunk, before their supply is finally cut off and they feel "Ugly" as they knew they'd feel when they weren't drunk any longer, being symbolized by the character falling into the pit and their mask being cracked.
But my OCD is screaming at me because the crack is on the wrong side compared to the icon of the channel.

My fiancé who is a recovering alcoholic showed me this, and considering that I'm a now-recovered alcoholic, it felt heavy for both of us. We were kinda laugh-crying afterwards about how all the excuses to drink are the same as the ones we made, and how the feeling of elation spiralling down into misery is a feeling we know all too well. The line "I'm gonna hate myself tomorrow then do it again" really hit us both hard, because we both have gone on massive benders before, lasting anywhere between a week to months, just getting hammered every single day and when we woke up hungover, we kept drinking to suppress it. Alcoholism is seriously fucked, and as someone who spent years drowning in a bottle, I can say that this is a bittersweet thing to watch. It reminds me so much of myself, and I know a lot of people are gonna fall into the same destructive patterns too. I just hope that people will l see this video and understand that it's not just a fun, catchy song, but it's also a pleading message... Don't fall in.

I just noticed that in the last chorus, his skull is cracked, showing the permanent affects of alcoholism. This song is catchy, deep, and has amazing animation. It’s a perfect song.
Oh my goodness! I didn't even notice, thank you!
@Clay_Is_Epic No liver? 🤨
Won't disagree with you, could be that, could be that the skull ends up looking like the bands logo, could be both. Nice eye btw.
I think that it has less to do with permanent effects of alcoholism, and more to do with the effects of one letting out the inner problems that arise within everyone, living in this day and age. I am not personally a fan of this song, or of this artist, but, I am a fan of the work that goes into motifs and writing, and can appreciate this for it's artistic value.
To me, the "mask crack" in the common meme of such works would be someone losing control, however, in this case, I would say that it is a good thing-- rough and impossible as that seems to be. Most people hide who they truly are, and live with a 'mask' as their front, but the person behind the mask is who this individual actually is, rather than what they put forward to others. and we can see with other faces, that we have a lot of really ugly individuals that are deeply wounded and hiding their issues isn't making them any better, they are just drowning them in booze.
If you look for other modern works that have characters (who, usually, do not have any strong character development beyond very static, basic concepts, if they even have that, in order to allow them to be blank slates that are relateable), You will see that in cases like this video, both the booze and the mask, are both masks. The mask on the street is the one worn for society, while the mask of booze (symbolized by the psychadelic imagery) show someone who is unable to cope with reality-- in or out of the bar. Many other characters do this with antidepressents, substance abuse, or even psychotic violence, depending on what direction the artist wants to go. Many alcoholics self-medicate, and whether it's doctor advice or one taking it upon themself, you end up with mirrors of both worlds-- they are band aids, no matter what the artist is targeting.
"No one can hurt me, hurt me, hurt me, hurt me" the last lines after the cracks are coming forward, shows the real faces of the drunk individual, which is a grotesque hyperbole of any human face, showing the ugliness of the inner wounds that neither the outward street mask or alcohol can fix, because none of these things are solutions. It's masks upon masks, until the user of whatever drug (and I do call all these drugs, alcohol, antidepressents, and other 'medicines', even sugar and coffee, would be highly illegal if first discovered in the last ten years due to their effects. In fact, even the most helpful of such things are still very well controlled in most of the world) does not know who they even are inside (symbolized by the four faces at the end)
Works like these are a remarkable commentary on the fractionization of the consciousness of those who often have no recourse, and the recourse they do have (covered in videos such as this) often make the problem worse, not better.
To the other comments: Forget the dude's liver, his mind and soul are burnt toast, he doesn't have time to think about his liver.

Everything this song is, explains the exact reason why I haven't touched a bottle of alcohol for over a year.
The feeling of losing control, finally letting go of everything inside me whenever i had the chance. It scared me.
My authentic self, my soul and all its colours were kept hidden inside me 24/7, and drinking was the one thing that allowed me to let it all out. Be myself. Have fun MY way. Do what I WANTED. GET MY FREEDOM.

Yea, the visuals in music and the emotional impact it creates with listeners is just as and probably more important to how good people perceive a song.
I love the little details of the song and also kind of the hidden meaning, notice how when he starts he looks happy and uses proper excuses, however as the amount of alcohol grows higher he begins to be less happy and comes with worse excuses and at 8 drinks he finally realizes that he no longer has an excuse, he finally also opens up about why he drinks, he feels ugly when he's himself and drinks his life away because of that, in the end he also says "i'm looking at heaven and i can't see the stars" or something like that, inside he knows that he'll die if he keeps drinking, he even says "i'll hate myself tomorrow then i'll do it again" which means he knows it's too late to go back.

“But now I’m feeling so beautiful/ Don’t wake me up from the spell I’m under if I’m still breathing/ I know that I will be ugly when I feel like myself again,” You continue to escalate and fuel that high because you know that once you’re sober you’ll hate yourself. This is probably the most affective depictions of problematic alcohol use I've ever seen; when I (hopefully) have kids someday, as soon as they get old enough to consider drinking, I intend to show them this as a warning of a type of of tempting thought and behavioral patterns that should be avoided.
Or introduce them to the song without warning them about alcohol, that way they're gonna figure out the song's message for themselves (it'll be more effective that way)
@@Stvhlinger Maybe; but I do feel like this is the kind of song that could easily be misinterpreted, especially if you only heard it without also seeing the video; in this case I could see someone mistaking it for a CELEBRATION of drinking if they focus too much on the mostly-cheerful tone and don't catch the details of the lyrics, especially since those lyrics contain a huge amount of rationalization and self-deception on the part of the singer. And a lot of the implications here only make sense once you have enough life experience under your belt. So I definitely think it also merits some discussion; but it probably wouldn't hurt for someone's first viewing/listening to be as blind as possible. Then probably have them re-watch the whole thing after discussing what it's actually about.
@@FanZ2626 I guess you could ask them their thoughts once they've watched it, and you could discuss afterwards if you want to. There's no harm in that. But I have to add, the song here, along with the lyrics makes it easy for someone to understand what the character is going through, even if they've had little to no experience with alcoholism. I think you can make your kids watch it when they're teenagers, when they're close to adolescence? That choice is definitely up to you, and not me. Goodluck.
@@StvhlingerI think that sounds best. Kids aren't dumb, but they can misinterpret messages (just like adults). But respecting their intelligence and building an honest rapport where you then share how you viewed the song and animation would be a good approach to foster a trusting, supportive relationship where they feel they could come to you and be heard and respected in the future. And it's a great song and video, so they'll probably think their parent is a little cooler 😂

There may be people that have problems with alcohol but for most people its really no big deal the get wasted and just continue living their life the next day
I relate to it with depression since I keep bringing my self back into that addictive cycle that I hate with every fiber of my body, but it's just so easy and comfortable to not wanna stay out of it.

@@wishfuldentochoosensilver3923 Don't apologize it's not like you were undermining people who did go through that sort of stuff.
Annnnnd, for the most part. Yeah. People who do become depended on drugs or alcohol are stuck with it because of many different factors. Some jsut get stuck on that feeling of a high, and others do it because they feel it's the ONLY way to get any sort of 'normalcy' and their brain tells them to get it. Addiction is a scary thing, and it makes people do crazy things to get what their brain wants or desires. I've never dealt with it (despite drinking and doing drugs not regularly but i do dabble in it).
