You can tell he actually wants love at the start but something bad happens each time he looks for it. In the pokemon heartful thing at 1:58 he doesn't know how to act when he sees love anymore which leads to him knocking everyone else down (race part) until at the final one where at that point he doesn't want love and decides to destroy the heart leaving him empty.
1:22 as soon as he goes for the heart, he gets ambushed.
1:31 and 1:36 when he opens up the heart doors, he's only met with more enemies

I feel like the song isn’t only about a break up. But a break up caused by fear. Skull guy wants love but doesn’t know how to accept it, not necessarily commitment issues, just anxiety over wrong choices. Like how in a Pokemon segment, ‘Talk’ was an option but after stressing over what to choose he ran away. Or in the dating sim when someone was interested in him all of his dialogue options were negative and he ended up running again.
Look at the bubble game at 2:44 he tried to play the game but when he made a wrong move and saw the bubbles getting closer he panics and ends up losing the game for himself.
It all may be more related to social anxieties and not being able to express yourself, and what you mean, the way you want to. And in turn not having good connections. Or “the love you need”
I think the devil heart at 1:16 represents toxic relationships im sure someone can make something out of that

I like your angle, but I would argue that this song is more based on a post-break up scenario where skull guy struggles to get over a past love (the final heart). In the LOZ arena, he encounters a number of heart shaped objects (leaves, rocks, etc.), but nothing can fill the void in his hearts. The few times he gets a chance, he quickly panics and attempts to make a move before being overrun by the scenario

Not even just breaking a bond, I've never been in a romantic relationship before, but even having good friendships broken can sting dude. Like recently my friendship with some people I look up to and respect was tested. My interpretation. The love in question developed naturally, like a wildflower. Two people were hanging out with each other and one day realized they're in love. These last 9 months I've been in love with a girl that I met in college.
I rarely fall in love, since I consider myself extraordinarily introvert, but this was one of those cases. We ended up becoming very friends, but last week I told her about it and I just wasn't corresponded.
I tried to get over it as quickly as possible so as not to compromise our friendship, and although I think I'm doing well (we keep on going as before) I can't help but feel kind of empty, like feeling way way lonelier than I would feel just a year ago even if we still talk.

As a person who used to date somebody toxic, this song is DEFINITELY what the aftermath of a breakup looks like.
The fact that movies and people glamorize "moving on" and getting the f up, is so frustrating to me. It's not Easy to just "move on" and be alright the next few days. Cuz not only are you left behind by that person, you're Also Traumatized by the fact that the next relationship is gonna end up similarly to that.
The lines from "I am lost in a dream, I can't open my eyes, Never told how to live after I say goodbye to you..." is also one problem when it comes to breakups. You'd feel jaded, lost in the fact that you feel like you're unlovable and knowing that it's not possible to achieve something like that anymore. In turn, you feel stuck in this limbo where you "don't know what it is that you're searching for". It's actually pretty interesting how TLT and the animators used videogames as an example to point out the message of this song.
Overall, I'm actually very happy and shocked that for once, someone showed an even more accurate reality of how it actually feels to not be able to get on with life that easily due to a traumatic love experience. TLT- you're a long-time artist that I've followed, ever since your first song of FNAF and I hope you continue to make more music- You never fail to amaze me along with your teams and colleagues out there.

Is anyone gonna talk about how in all of these songs, there's a reference of the previous song? I have quite a theory. I feel like Zero One (shown in the ending of Sunburn) Is an operation for all of these characters to be scripted to meet up, considering we keep seeing these characters in different songs. From what I'm getting, Skull Guy is looking for love that he can depend on, love he needs, but all of the times he sees a chance to get love, it either is fake, or it disappears before he gets the chance to try his luck with it. It soon gets to the point that he rejects it when an oppurtunity appears, but in the end, he still wishes to find the love he needs.

LYRICAL ANALYSIS:
I've been listening to this song for a while, and I realize it's not necessarily about romantic love. It could be about any sort of love. Skull Guy had someone he loved very much, and became dependent on. After that person was no longer in the picture, he was alone, an alien experience for him. When they tell him to dance, they're saying he'll be fine on his own, and he can be self sufficient. He may have been convinced whatever bond he had was unhealthy. He felt liberated, but he now feels he's falling. That person was his world, and he depended on them. He has no idea of who he is independently, or how to operate alone. He's working alone, but only barely, hence the low HP. He wants any sort of bond again, but when it occurs, he gets scared and flees, fearing any change or abandonment again. He doesn't want to risk anything, as if he gets hurt by anything, he'll fall. They convinced him to go solo to dance, but it turns out it wasn't healthy for him. This really hits home for me, as I moved out of my foster parents home last year, and have been living alone. I can operate, but I desire any bond. I was abandoned by my biological parents, and always clinged to anyone who showed any interest in me. Not everyone is ready to exit a relationship, and it can be detrimental for someone who fears loneliness. People like Skull Guy and I, we thrive around people, but loneliness takes a heavy toll. Without anyone, we're hollow, doing whatever we can to fill the cavity where we store other people.

the person is trying to find love (represented by the hearts he is trying to achieve and the hp always in 1) in different relationships (represented by the sudden change of games) and him always being afraid (represented by him entering in the dark room in "zelda", jumping in the hole in "mario", entering the cave in what is think it's "warcraft" and running away in "pokemon" and the dating sim) or being hurt by a toxic relationship (represented by him dying in the beat 'em up game, getting various ambushes in "doom", slippering in the race game, falling in the rpg game, losing in the puzzle game and not winning the space shooter game after destroying the heart) and then by not being loved enough, he finally succumbs and gives up (falls asleep)

Everyone is saying this song is about a relationship, but I don’t think it is.
This is a song about a person who has been cast out into the real world with no advice or direction, just after being told to, for lack or a better phrase, burn through everyday life. As a child, we probably have all been told to “toughen up” or “truck through it” if you’re a midwestern kid like me. Even when I was in obvious pain and had my mental health down, I was told to get up and get to it. In this song, he is “tired of independence” this man was obviously sent into the real world without any help or anything to rely on, and him being on “1 hp” is him in constant danger or losing everything because he doesn’t have help, hope, or love.

It could be both! It really did have a lot of romantic connotations ("Find another darling", the very obvious dating sim thing, chasing after a heart throughout everything, and many main lyrics implying the breakup), so it could be people telling him to toughen up and deal with it and just move on, continue with life, which is very difficult(both life and moving on like magic), so having to balance that out has him under constant stress
It can go either way, so I don't know why you just decide to say it's not about something without any basis behind why it's not.
Also, the lyrics point to it being about a relationship, but the protagonist can't love himself, so he can't love others.

This song hit me in the feels really hard. I was raised by a narcissist, so this song made me think of the man I called Dad before he disowned me for standing up for myself. This hits on a spiritual level. We don't deserve TLT, but we need TLT. This man be going deeeeeep with his songs, and it is nothing short of beautiful.
Honestly I seem some people making theories about this song, but I personally think its about TLT themselves, specifically about how all their older songs have hundreds of millions of views and how recently (and kind of for a while now) it seems like a lot of fans/listeners have just stopped or moved on. These whole theme would line up with so many lines of the song, and would also match how the game Skull Guy is in keeps changing and adapting. One specific reoccurring thing of the songs video is that all the hearts end up being enemies, and I feel like that could def be how a lot of people will hype up one song, and then ignore the next, creating this false feeling of achievement only to be let down.
Anyways that's my hot take :)
It's a cool theory nonetheless, but it's truly only about a guy I would assume playing video games to distract himself from love. I think the song is about someone trying to move on from a breakup, not for themselves, but for others. Their friends and family use the standard colloquialisms about how there's an endless number of people for the main character to move onto. But, the MC doesn't want to find someone else, they're stuck dwelling on the love that they had, which prevents them from moving on. These lyrics really sum up the experience:

They tell me "Find another darling!"
Ironically, the main character has plenty of opportunities to date others, which is seen more in the visualizations, symbolized by the dating sim and Pokemon segments. The Doom segment shows monsters behind the heart doors, probably symbolizing how the MC views these other potentials.
