Of all the tanks added to War Thunder somewhat recently, the Russian PT-76-57 (also known as PT-76E) is definitely one of the most overpowered. The PT-76-57 pairs a stabilized 57mm autocannon to the PT-76 chassis, while also upgrading the engine and providing it with a laser rangefinder. At a battle rating of 7.7, the PT-76-57 mostly fights vehicles that don't have a stabilizer at all. So even if the PT can't get flank a vehicle and comfortably destroy it in one shot to the side, it can still break the target's barrel before it can react. Gaijin did raise its battle rating, but 7.7 is still not high enough.

My biggest flex was going full speed and one shotting a pt 76 57 in my batchat before he could even fire back. It's like taking a dump on these kids who have a fully stabilized auto cannon and still get destroyed by a wonky frenchy tank.

I am legit more afraid of this thing than any comteporarily-tiered tank I can think of myself - I play the Centurion variants pretty regularly and while they're all good tanks themselves, I know if I don't have my gun loaded and pointing directly at a PT-76-57 the moment it appears, I'm getting five 57mm APHE shells through my hull / gun barrel / in my cupola, it's terrifying
Even driving the Chieftain variants and seeing someone bring this thing in as a backup is horrible - the Chieftain has a paper hull so it's never a surprise to get clapped when you're exposed in it, but when you're hull-down, angled backward, doing everything perfectly and an extremely hard kill for any other MBT, and one of these things rolls up, blasts your barrel to pieces, and then forces a billion rounds through the turret ring / gunner's sight slot / coaxial machinegun / cupola + commander's face, it just absolutely sucks
I agree 100% with this. It was the same deal with the Puma as well. Honestly my biggest gripe with these light tanks is that they manage to consistently survive hits that absolutely should total the vehicle. If they survive a shot they will look directly at you and chip you down like a pest. I play britain as well and grinding 7.3 - 8.3 for the last few months and facing these two things along with begleits and bmp 2m's was torture.

The problem is the firepower, Dat thing has probably the best combo of Canon assets Dat will ever exist. It's a rapid firing 57mm with decent pen and explosive filler, with lazer rf and full stab

this thing terrified me whenever i saw it in my 7.7 italy matches when i still had the patience to play that country, i still remember when i met this thing on the r3 t106 fa and he survived both of my shots easily, i tried running away, but i didn't survive the encounter

You're missing the point- russian generals play this game and actually use it to plan operations and such. Naturally, since the game greatly over-estimates russian armor capability, it's no wonder why they think they are invincible.

Type 87 have mobilier up and thermal, and the gun is little more Better
Not to stay the type 87 doesn’t slay, the suffering from sand and snow has been reduced and you can now go a good speed on it
The gun on the type 87 has less pen and less post pen dmg, it only wins in fire rate

Play the CV9040 next. With the addition of the Puma and PT-76-57 and the buffs on the Begleit and BMP-2M, the CV9040s does not feel that amazing to play anymore, since you have better IFVs/Light tanks options at lower BRs, with better mobility, armaments and even armor than you. The powercreep ruined these tanks imo.
Still they are really funny to play.

I unlocked my CV9040B a few days ago and yeah I have to agree, the 40mm auto cannon with APFSDS is nice and wrecks side armour but the CV itself, especially the B model is abit of a glass cannon in all honesty, and when compared to the other IFV’s it’s just a straight up downgrade

The Puma alone is already way, way better than the Strf 9040C, and sits at 9.3 while the 9040 is at 10.0. Puma have better armor and survivability, better mobility, better gunhandling and doesn't have a ready-rack ammo.
Yea sure the swedish 40mm cannon does a lot of damage, but c'mon, 24 shells in the ready-rack? The Begleit have an almost half-bigger cannon (57mm) with the double of ammo inside the ready-rack, have ATGMs, better gun handling and better mobility. Also sits at 9.3.
BMP-2M have ridiculously broken ATGMs, 4 that can be shot on the move at the same time, and also have better gun handling and better mobility. And ALSO sits at 9.3, together with the Begleit and Puma.
Like, what? Why the CV90s have to be at a higher BR while being marginally worse?
The only one that can be excluded is the BILL, since the top attack missile is really powerful, but hey, BMP-2m also have really powerful ATGMs and sit at a lower BR...

This tank singlehandedly brought down my winrates and KD and generally my progress in the game when it came out, as I was grinding 7.0-7.7 Sweden. What an absolutely braindead vehicle, I remember entire teams of this POS where the top 3 players would have 6-7 kills each. Horrendous that it's still even at 7.7 tbh.
It still brings down mine at 8.7 italy. I literally just had a round where my M735 on my Centauro 105 bounced the things front plate. If you want to know how that's possible there is ONE spot on the entire front end at ONE angle that you can richochet that round.
It's a premium gift vehicle, so figure out why it exist.
I'm not gonna lie, the one good thing about tanks like the PT76/57 and BMP2M is the fact that killing them is one of the most satisfactory things in the world.
Also, gajin, this thing has an APHE round which can go through 150mm of armor. The CV90 has a dart round that can pen a similar amount yet it sits at 9.0. This thing is 7.7.

The only CV90 below 10.0 is the 9040B at 9.3. But yea, gaijin shits on minor nations and doesn't care about it since they don't give the same amount of money such as US, Germany and Russia.

It's actually pretty entertaining when I would come across these in a distance head on engagement with the Strv 103. They would often track me and maybe barrel me but that's all they could do and would give up after a mag dump.

This is primarily how I've been killed.

One time I face a 103 in the Ho Ri Production, basically I had no chance but I decided to load HE and try and hit him and somehow sniped his cupola insta killing him at 800ms most satisfying thing I've ever done.

I would love to see you play the British Striker. It isn't meta at all, but it also isn't completely awful in every way. It gets thermals and has great reverse and smoke launchers. It's kind of unusual compared to most pure ATGM carriers.
Any tank that's stabilized should be at least 8.0 imo. Heck there are a lot of nations who don't even get stabilized tanks until 8.3. It's bogus how gaijin thinks it's fine to add yet another stabilized tank to Russian 7.7 with laser range finder and 10x zoom auto cannon.

I was playing the avre yesterday and I shot at a pt76, I shot a bit low and the round hit the ground right under the pt76, doesnt fucking kill it
The PT-76-57, KV220, T-72 TURMS (in the hands fo a non-disabled player) are so ridiculously easy to play you genuinely feel bad for the people you kill. They are so stupidly undertiered it's not even funny, it's just sad IMO.

PT-76-57 Wiesel 1a4: That 20mm autocannon with APDS you can flank it very easly or even kill it frontally from short range also wiesel is small so hard to spot
KV220 Tiger E: It can be one shotted if you know where to aim and load PzGr. ammo
T-72 TURMS: well anything really its a T-72
@@ZETH_27 Got the T-72 Turms at the discount and it fits nicely in the lineup. Lost an MBT? No worry, i have 2 more to go and a light tank with the exact same cannon as the other MBTs. Oh yea and let's not forget khrizantema, for extra bullying from LONG range. Can't wait to get the BMP-2M. I'll train with the BMP-2 some more experience. This'll be useful to crush my enemies with it harder and better when i get it.

It also does pretty good at 10.7 I use it in one of my russian top tier recon lineup with the T72 moderna , the BMD4 , the Khrisantema and the ka50 as cas (I just need the tunguska and the bmp2m to complete the lineup) the PT76 57 is perfect for getting the skill matters achievement

The PT-76E never went up to 8.3 .. it'd be comfortable up there, but I guess the stats say something else somehow.
Let's not forget the laser rangefinder. It's bad enough that this thing has an amazing gun and ammo, but a laser rangefinder makes target acquisition extremely fast. Meanwhile, at that BR it's mostly facing tanks with a stereo rangefinder and pretty much no advantage over the PT-76-57. I have it and I rarely play it, it just feels too OP and too easy to seal-club even with little skill involved. It's head and shoulders above anything on that BR.
Looking at the flag this thing is post cold war, its at the same BR as a WW2 vehicle, sure the 57 can't kill a MAUS anywhere, but it can scout and subject it to track and barrel torcher

2 Games later I dropped a nuke on abandoned factory. No brainlet like me should've gotten a nuke that easy but this abomination allowed me to do just that.
(thankfully my T-44/IS-2 '44 and Type 10 got their own nukes in their own games to wash the terrible taste of OP nonsense away)

You should play the Sd.Kfz. 6/2. It gets an APHE belt on a 37 mm gun at 1.7. Feels like a Pt 76 57 at very low BR.

Nah, not really comparable to the PT76-57. The damn thing is as stable as a house of cards in a hurricane, cant shoot over the frontal arc, is slow as hell and can be killed by any vehicle in the game frontaly by machinegun fire. I personally dont even use it because I really hate its unstable gun platform and fields of fire. The soviet milk trucks with 23mm are way better and funnier to play.
The most OP vehicle to ever grace War Thunder though was the french 40mm LVT at its 2.3 BR. It had a fraking 40mm and two 50cals plus no armor is best armor. Damn that thing was amazingly OP. Had a game with 16 kills including aircraft and some assists. No deaths.
The STRV DT is an absolute banger at 5.0 and definitely worth a session in for the amazing post pen and excellent magazine. The STRV 103C would also be really neat to see.

Have you considered that, by every practical definition, the PT-76 is a Monitor Warship? It is a relatively small, shallow do drafted Ironclad vessel with a turreted cannon that is inordinately large for a warship of its size.
This is the only tank where I can get an easy nuke ingame. My first game in it I got a nuke. I once got two nukes in a row(in two separate games, Duh) because of it. People that say it can't kill frontally are stupid. The only one that comes to mind is the M103 that I really struggle, By struggle I mean having to use 2 brain cell and aim for the gun. The rest can be killed by hitting the cupola. Because APHE are super realistic. It used to be *7.3*

This thing should be 8.7, the idea of it being introduced at 7.0 was comical. It is quite literally, as you put it, Russian bias incarnate.
It is superior to the WMA, the type 87 and the type 89. This thing should be happily sitting at 8.7. The idea that this is lower in BR than the bradley or the warrior is laughable.
OG's will remeber when the ZSU-57-2 was the king of this sorta gameplay.....kinda want to see how the original fast 57 "SPAA" stacks up compared to this.
It's kinda indescribably both far better and worse than back then, on average it gets stomped quite fast, often without even a single kill, because of all the nerfs it has had since its introduction, the very poor survivability , the below average gun laying on the vertical, and poor penetration with loss of its apds belt so you will struggle to fight opponents to get kills if you play it like a normal tank, most games on it will be below average if you are an average player.
In good hands however, with someone able to exploit the advantages the cannon, speed and turret traverse this thing offers, it is TOO good, my most recent nuke game was with the zsu-57, I got it less than 5 minutes into the game by just outgunning the entire team coming out of their spawn on single "C" cap El Alamein because almost their entire team was fast light tanks rushing C cap, (yay light tank meta) held a back flank after that and carefully picked off some slower vehicles while playing defensively, had about 15 kills in the span of about 2-3 mins and when I noticed I just ended the match with a nuke.
Was the fastest nuke game I'd even gotten, but that kinda highlights what the vehicle is, its got some extreme firepower but none of the handholds the PT-76-57 does, you don't just have to know what YOU are doing, but also what the enemy is doing, where, when, and why,(and THEN get lucky) or you won't do even decently well with this tinder box on tracks.
Well, maybe you could try the JPZ 4-5, as most people say it is bad, but from mz experience, once you unlock the HEAT it is great vehicle. One of the reasons I think it is good, most players which play against Germany at 6.3 don’t expect there is anything fast apart from pumas. And the HEAT oh boy, these T44 players sometimes go completely mad about how I can pen them through the main plate with my stupid tank destroyer.

It’s not that large. Compared to a m56 it’s large, but compared to turreted vehicles it’s nice and squat.
The selling point of the JPZ 4-5 is what no one seems to talk about, which is the optics. I don’t know what the max magnification on it is, but I do know I can very comfortably make 1000-2000m shots in that thing where most vehicles at that BR struggle. The HEAT-FS completes the package, but it’s still not a bad vehicles just running the HESH.

@@soulforge3468 Yes, the optics are great, it’s the only tank below 7.3 which I’m able to fire accurately on the distance between 1000-2000m. Another thing is it has great smoke launchers, they basically don’t cover you from the front, but from one side to. And it has the NVD, which can be very useful in the evening/night battles.
this thing frustrates me so, so much. i once shot the turret face with sabot and YELLOWED the breech and YELLOWED the crew members. ffs man... this doesn't belong in war thunder because it's outrageously powerful at ANY battle rating
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ZSU-57-2
Yes, PT-76-57 has a laser rangefinder and a stabilizer, BUT it also has 1 less gun, 2 less crew members, and less room to mess up your shot to kill it, AND its still 0.7 BR higher than the ZSU-57-2.
You can easily carry enough ammo to get quite a bit of kills while still putting little to no ammo in the turret of the ZSU-57-2, similar to the PT-76-57.
Personally I think that 8.0-8.3 would be a good BR for the PT-76-57, but maybe that should bring attention to the ZSU-57-2 and how good it really is. Just a thought.
i play the wz305 and it's amazing still at 8.0 (in an AT role that is). and in an AA role it's fucking godlike, i've gotten 8 plane kills in one match thanks to the proxy it gets in comparison to its russian counterpart. the zsu-57 works as a 7.3 or maybe even a 7.7, with the better wz305 being at 8.0.
They should just give zsu the proxy shells and move it up to 8.0 like chinese one. I agree zsu is really good at killing tanks and has enough pen even for ww2 heavies. Killing planes is very hard though.
PT 76 57 should be 8.3 which would be fair when compared to similiar tank like type 89. PT has better damage and pen so not having atgms is not that big of a deal
I was quite happy when I sniped two of these. Will never feel bad using a main gun on these.
i barely ever use the missile on the begleit so i dont see it as an advantage

I can do a lot better on type 87 rcv compared to type 89 even though type 89 has stabilizer, thermals and atgm.

Easy; the blowout panels only work if the panel itself isn't penetrated. The angle he shot it at likely smashed into the interior panel, causing the ammo det to kill the crew. I'm not saying it isn't BS, but the panels pretty often (in my experience) work if the ammo is shot directly from the side. This isn't to detract from your statement about the PT76-57; it's *very* overpowered, but in this case the blowout panels likely wouldn't have worked as the interior was damaged.

I've been playing the T-29 American heavy tank recently as I picked it up in the summer premium sales this year. And I've been very impressed with how good it is at 7.0 even facing 7.7 and 8.0 isn't that big a deal if you play right because the aphe round is really good.
I've seen this too often at 6.7 America, it's painful to fight, but so is the zsu-57-2 which while unstabilized and weaker armor, also has 2 57s at an even lower br

Almost a year later, its just barely gotten to 8.0, there are vehicles with 25mm autocannons and far less penetration at 8.3-8.7 but they are there because apparently just having gen 1 thermals gets you there
