The NSX Oil Change cost ? - 2nd Generation NC1

- This is a pretty expensive oil change if done by the dealer.
We’ve heard $800+ at some dealers
It's more work than your regular Honda and requires some specialty tools, but not bad.
It's an important job and we figured for you Hands guys, we'd give you an idea what's involved.
Was gonna get an NSX however since they went unconventional with 7 drain plugs I instead chose a 300,000 mile 99 civic hatchback on facebook marketplace, thanks for the video!
lol. 👍🏻
Hope you didn't pay the same NSX price!
Another reason for me to keep my 1st Gen Nsx. 1 drain plug and cost the same as a civic to chance the oil.
It's also worth more.
@@IRDStudionot for long…
@@IRDStudiono it's not lol
That’s one exotic oil change!
Sometimes I believe the Japanese are taking lessons from the Germans on making things more complicated.
This absurdity was designed by American engineers not Japanese.
Soichiro Honda would never have approved this joke. The designer would have suffered concussion by flying ashtrey.😅
LHT Performance. Had to think back to Honda Tuning days when you guys had the K-sight. It was red. Miss those magazine days.
Looks straightforward not too bad
$800 for that? Am I missing something? Sure a few more bolts but $800?
I was thinking the same!
dry sump system might need 2 oil drains to do an oil change. I remember for the lexus LFA, they will need to do the drain twice, meaning if you buy 4 jugs of mobil 1 oil just to do a oil change. if regular priced, those oil is about 40-50 bucks at today's rate, plus filter, total would be 250-300 dollars. then there is 'special' master mechanic to be booked to do your car, you will also have to add the additional time needed to take the under tray off then put on. 7 bolts to take off, time to drain, bolts on, fill, run the car, repeat. then there is every man jack want to talk and watch you work, so 3 hours labour. for people can afford those expensive cars, they would rather spend the time making more money. for people love working on cars, they won't bother to take to dealerships. 800 dollars is not worth it, but I'd say 600 is about reasonable if you are the shop owner and someone drop off a NSX or LFA to do an oil change.
I hear that Jiffy Lube is running a special 😂
The crazy part is, you take it there, they'll actually try to do it.
Yeah the Lube part is for your ass.
Given how silly the oil change process is with 7 drain plugs and the Rube Goldberg filter tool, I'm surprised it doesn't take an NSX specific oil, like 7W-32 or something. Sure is a gorgeous machine, though. It's worth the effort.
Seven drain plugs. That's the new-school Honda over-engineering for ya.
Engineers absolutely love to over complicate the simplest tasks. No reason for 7 drain plugs. 🤦🏼♂️
Dry Sump. This engine is built by cosworth it's not your conventional j series
@@Gearhead2286most regular dry sumps I've encountered have 2 drain plugs. 🤷
@@daneaustin2468it’s a dry sump. They’re all like that 🥴
Dry sump has little to do with it. This is simply a bad design. There are many other dry sump engines that have one single drain plug.
I am here watching how to change the oil on a car I will never afford but can now say I know how to change the oil on so I can brag to my friends
Great video. Couple things I would say, not trying to nitpick, is that this car uses 0W/40 oil, not 10W/30, also Acura does recommend draining from one bolt first but the order of the others don’t matter. Cool blue oil filter tool. I gotta pick one up!!
😳😮
I was thinking the same thing. Why the lawnmower oil spec?
@@jsun3117 I'm guessing (or at least hoping he misspoke). LHT's attention to detail is usually second to none. That would be a pretty significant oversight on such a car.
Luv to collect oil from each drain for volume. Hmm, #1 gets 78% of oil. 2-7 get 3% each. I’d drain 1-2 and quit.
lol.
Factory spec for oil is 0W-40
wow! how do you guys know how to do all this project so professionally? impressive. Thanks for posting.
We work on a lot of NSXs. Plus I owned for a while we did all out R and D with and learning.
The crew at LHT regularly stays at Holiday Inn Express' when not at home.
My dealer charges in the low/mid $300s for my 2017 NSX oil changes. Oil changes are infrequent for this car, just go by the computer.
Fox Body 5.0- has two drain plugs
Gen 2 NSX- hold my beer
🤣👍🏻
Not sure what’s the point of this video, it looks exactly like any other oil change minus 6 more bolts to loosen due to a stupid design. Other than that oil filter cartridge is identical to any Hyundai lamda engines that copied from Mercedes. $100 max just because of the additional 2 minutes loosening the extra 6 drain bolts
Th point was to show basically how to
do it. Also to share what’s involved including part numbers 🤔.
Things the sales person neglects to tell you !
I bought a 2022 NSX Type S and the stealership says $400 for the oil change. I only have 700 miles on it so it will be a while before a change. I can change myself but if any issues later with the motor they said warranty could be voided. ugh...
Hey there’s new evidence saying you should change a new cars oils around 500 miles for added reliability
Acura doesn’t require this on the NSX. With fully synthetic oil I’ll wait for the two year mark or 2000 miles
They don't require it but don't do it and they will hold it against you come warranty time. Good luck with stealership help even if you bought it there. It will be oil consumption test until they finally say you're past the warranty. If you really own it really take care of it. Fuck Acura advice seriously.
This is maybe a 30min job plus $100 tops for oil and filter. $400 is robbing you blind
It’s still like any Honda. Warranty will only be voided if you screw up the oil change. Do it yourself and save the receipts. In fact buy the oil and parts from Acura so they can’t argue you used the wrong stuff if in the rare case you have a problem
New co worker John? voice sounds different! Hope to get my 2.5 stg2 cammed full exhaust mx-5 dynoed someday
same radio as a 2017 civic!
Wow I thought my R35 GTR was bad. That thing is simple in comparison
The GTR is as simple as it gets my guy. And the much better engine
@@2seep yea I know I have owned 2 of them. The dealer still wanted ~$300 for an oil change.
Im pretty sure the Veyron has 16 drain plugs.
I wonder if a voodoo would fit
Bring your NSX to me! I’ll change the oil for $650 - oil, filter, labour inclusive.
Similar to Huracan and R8 change, 7~ or so drain plugs, but those are like $250 at indy shops
What's an indy shop? Never heard that term before. Guessing along the lines of a mom and pop garage shop?
Short for independent shop
Wow that’s stupid
I haven't seen 10w30 being used on any car let alone a sports car since the early 2000s...
Thanks guys, nice HW by the way
This is the difrence betwin
Nsx mk1 that was enginerd
in japan and the new gen that
Was ingenerd in the u.s.
Can that tiny filter handle the engine?? :P
7 drain bolts!
Honda really missed the boat on this car with a V6. Anyone seriously considering a supercar would want a twin turbo V8 at the minimum!!! That's why the car didn't sell and bombed in the market!!!
Aside from the first few years of the original, this sold just about as well as the prior generation.
How offten you need to adjust valves??.😅😅😅 and how much?
I believe Acura calls for 75,000 miles and it pays 28.3 hours.
That's cheap! A flat tire on a Bugatti could run you into the thousands.
Still waiting to see why the oil change on this NSX is $800. 🤨
See, this is exactly the reason why I don’t buy Hondas.
Jk. Great video!
Why?
@@Hmmm313
Too many things to remove to do an oil change.
But clearly, my comment was sarcasm and a joke.
I always forget this car exist lol
Is the original nsx easier - less expensive to maintain?
Yes. The original NSX is similar to an Accord V6.
If you think about it, this has additional under tray ( for aerodynamics) 7 drain bolts to ensure all the oil is drain from the separate cavities. It’s not that complicated, just extra steps.
There's these things called nytril gloves. Keeps used engine oil from getting all over your hands. Just sayin.
Over the years I’ve tried all those gloves, I hate them. If I was afraid to get my hands dirty I’d, stay in the office.
If you can afford this car, you can pay $800 oil changes. Comes with the territory.
Like marrying a trophy wife. Expect to spend $$$ on her
There is absolutely no reason to change the drain plugs. They can easily last the lifetime of the car!!!
Paying $800 for a oil change on a Honda is BS
$800 for an oilchange 😢
Yes it takes longer. Uses regular oil. IMO, you failed to justify why you charge so much🙄
We don’t change it. Dealers do
is it absolutely necessary to change the washers? can't re-use the old washers?
If there not damaged. But you may as well replace them. There cheap and piece of mind against drips
@@LHTPerformance thank you for the response. was genuinely curious.
@@louKushh Never changed mine on several Hondas and other cars and no problems with oil leaks.
I have never changed a washer in my life. No oil leaks.😊
@@looneyyang1326 when you’re doing the job your self you can cut corners when needed. If you’re working for a customer wanting things 100% correct, you cover your bases as much as possible. Especially on an expensive car. Also, some people are less happy with oil drips on their driveway.
They make a neat car, but I’m not interested because they’ve made a proprietary maintenance mess I’m just not interested in
That oil filter "tool" 😂
99 cents amazon plastic cutting board
proly costs 100$ for that special "tool"
the only tool is the guy who buys one
Having to create special tools to do simple maintenance means the engineers live in their head instead of reality. Keeping it simple stupid is beyond their scope.
could probably cut a 2 liter soda bottle to that exact shape. 🤔
Not to self old NSX >Newer NSX
This is ridiculous.
So how much would you guys charge for a 2nd gen NSX oil change?
A lot less than the dealer 😉
7 drain plugs for an oil change?, no wonder they can't make a V8, they're stuck on stupid mode. They should have stuck with making motorcycles.
Honda has lost the plot. What a complicated mess.
It’s really not that bad. $800 at dealership is robbery.
Bubble gun noises?
Can u be serious ....ey bring it to le ill change it for 200 dollars ...really it's like changing the oil on a mazda 3 2006 lol you got bamboozled 😅😅😅
ridiculous
You can tell a woman designed this car by the location of the oil filter… lol
To complex..
Insanity
Overpriced car with Overpriced oil change
all these stupid electronic garbage makes owning a car not enjoyable.
when i first did mine it drove me nuts wish i just got the type S after spending that much bread and now its no longer in production ill likely sell the car and fund the money towards a GTR 34.. i like older cars from 90s and early 2000 as they are much more simple and easy to work on my 2020 BRZ TS is so easy to oil change but when comes to spark plug change its a bit of a pain only cost like 130 bucks as i use motul racing oils on my toy cars
