I like how when Acura was developing the second generation NSX, they didn’t rush it. They paid great detail to precision, and it shows. The NSX an elite sports car.
I wish this video would’ve hit UA-cam three years ago. I’ve been in the PMC and the build room at Anna. The “hand built” marketing was there in the initial launch media. But this video really pushes that narrative a lot better.

Amazing story. I'd really love to own an NSX someday. It's behind the scene story like this that creates an emotional connection for the product. Honda should've done this globally to each car.

I chose my 2nd Gen NSX over a McLaren and I absolutely love the car
And the fact that McLaren was arrogant enough to blame Honda for McLaren's own failures makes this choice even better

I got one and track it often as designed. Cornering in this car is EZ mode.
This video explains the reportedly $90K cost of this engine. I wish this 3.5L matched the Ford GT’s 3.5L in horsepower. A NA V8 option would be a better choice, torque and sound. However I’m impressed with this NSX engine! NSX GT3: the only “bone stock” engine on the grid.

I read somewhere it's 70k. Don't remember the source but it wasn't just a forum
@I yea just read your post. I don't remember that story so perhaps the 90k came from there.
Still though, full engine assembly (as in this video) is north of 60k. I don't think potential dealer discounts are applicable here.
1. It's not guaranteed.
2. Why would a dealer discount a racing engine? I'm sure there are people who just want the engine for their project... This is a very limited production exclusive engine for a super car. I just don't see a dealer desperate to sell these at a discount.
Anyway...

Very cool look behind the scenes. It's been cool to watch/hear about the development of the new NSX from Ted and others through the NSX club and at various events over the years. The NC1 NSX is not an original NSX, but is it's own special thing for sure. I've had the pleasure of riding in one a couple of times on different race tracks and it'll make you re-calibrate your brain with respect to what a car is capable of.
This is truly next level, both the assembly process and the insight from this video. I just wonder what happens when a tech at a dealer works on the NSX, are they as precise or insightful into things like specially weighted balance bolts?
Aret Zelli - First thing I thought of when they showed the head bolts all being torqued SIMULTANEOUSLY. You KNOW the dealer techs aren’t doing that...
I - I don’t doubt the skills and training of the techs. Just that I highly doubt each and every dealer has the specialized machines that were used during original engine assembly. e.g. the machine that torques all the head bolts at once.
I - I wouldn’t consider head work to be “internal rotating assemblies” but I get what you’re saying.
It was stated that the torque wrench has GPS and torque was recorded in each VIN. Perhaps every Acura tech was given a torque wrench with a connection to the database in Ohio. Very high tech indeed.

This is super super awesome car...but please don't think you reach the top of the hill so time to relax... rather, being at the top means more are seeing you and want to take your place if you don't fight to stay on top.

And that, boys and girls, is why the NSX is “overpriced”. It really isn’t. You’re paying for the pedigree. Honda could have saved a lot of money by turbocharging their mainstream V6 (e.g. MDX, Pilot).
It seems like nobody is paying for that pedigree. They sold just 238 last year.
Its not even that "overpriced" the new 911 Turbo is like $200k easy

I already own a DBA-R35. Looking for different handling feel. The NSX mid-engine layout provides plenty of traction at the rear.

At 8:43 he talks about balance. But truth is a 75 degree V6 engine is not balanced. The vector forces won’t cancel each other out. It’s not perfectly balanced like an inline 6 or flat 6 is. I guess that’s why they need different weighted bolts to offset the vibrations.
The only thing in Ohio that I like: all of Honda’s and Acura’s plants, I’m proud to have a car that was built in America, and not a American brand car built overseas

I think all of this is great. If Acura really wants this to be an everyday super car, then it should provide the everyday safety systems that a Civic has. Why can’t Acura go all the way on this car? I know there are leaks of a type R for this time in 2021 but is power really the problem? Maybe, maybe not. I am personally waiting for a convertible and I hope it is electronically equivalent to at least a Civic and have the latest head unit. A halo should have no holds barred.
I like the NSX and Acura, but honestly, this isn’t the everyday Acura.
The company’s been promoting this one for roughly 8 years now. It’s been siphoning the visual sizzle of the NSX for too long. But no other Acura models look like it. They lack the ‘it’ factor of the NSX.
This one model is the diamond and the others are nicely shaped chunks of coal.
Bring the CL back and the Legend back. It’s time.

Great video. The second generation NSX engine is truly a masterpiece. However the video completely glosses over the fact that Cosworth in the UK does the casting and machine work for the block on heads. Anna just does final assembly and Dino break-in/testing. Also this engine was developed by a combination of Honda people in japan and Cosworth people in the UK. It’s even possible this engine design is based on a Cosworth built and designed Opal engine used in the 90s in Turing car racing.
Acura messed up by selling only 300 NSX's because people with money are just buying the car to sit in a garage!!!! NOBODY is going to see these cars on the road and it's sad!!! In my life I have seen 1 NSX 2nd Gen when I was in high school I saw a few of the 1st Gens and they were head turning! The few cars made of the 2016-2022 NSX's are NOT on the road much at all! There's a few but dang I have been saving up for 3 years and I'm almost there and now I'm worried about buying a car that may break because they aren't drivin enough to know of any issues to fix year after year. I'm still going to buy one and it's to drive not to sit in a garage. I really love this car, I hope it has the dependability that Honda is known for. I just wish they would have made 1,000 NSX Type S, with the population in America now still makes it a leprechaun! I'm hoping to be driving one here this summer!!!

I think it’s a shame they made the NSX so expensive. It starts to get in the price range where you think about other exotics. You can buy a 2 year old Huracán for about similar price as a new NSX. And with new Corvette at $60k it’s hard to justify.
I do not believe that they make money from NSX from benefit cost standpoint. They put so much effort to ensure that the most advanced technology and the best quality is apparent in this beauty. I am saving money to afford one in five years. (I do not like financing.) That is the time close to retirement so looking forward to it!!

So much concentration for track performance using data from GT3 and F1, then why is it slower than a Camaro ZL1 or C7 Corvette Grand Sport at VIR?

@I "The NSX's real world results speak for themselves"......I don't know any one who has one, I never see them at the HPDE events I go to, I never see on on the street..........WAIT I did see one at a Acura dealer behind ropes and the dealer wont not open the doors for me (I pulled up in my C7z).....so I don't know ANY real world results. Can we get a non hybrid version? Call it a Type R maybe? The NSX should be about light weight.
The original OG had tech that other models picked up so no matter what model you have you can get a piece of that tech now it seems like the name is being sold love you honda but you dropped the ball

Let’s hope the NSX is made better than my 2018 Accord 2.0T Touring. The 10-speed transmission Honda and Acura use is prone to rough and slow shifts, long delays engaging reverse, and jerky behavior when driving up and downhill. I had bubbles in the paint, rust in the door jambs, rattles everywhere. Honda would not send anyone from their corporate office to look at my car, saying I had to rely on the incompetent dealer service people who claimed “all new accords shift terribly”... and basically said I was SOL. Honda/Acura has changed from what they used to be.

I'm 41 now, and my parents say it still starts and runs, but the body is rusted up.. hahahah! I can say American cars doesn't hold up like Japanese, but they are getting better...I have a 2011 Acura TL imported from Japan, and it has 200K miles and I still race it against any car in manual mode.😎👍🏿

If the engine was perfectly internally balanced from the get-go ( like Lexus ) they wouldn’t have to ‘ half ass ‘ balance it ‘ after assembly ‘

Emissions and efficiency. Unfortunately, the days of 8-9k rpm NA engines are gone.
Maybe a Targa top or a V8, or a manual could save it. Otherwise brings nothing to the table at that price point. A new vantage is cheaper for Gods sake

They definitely didn't copy any of the philosophy which made the NSX a legend. the original NSX wasn't made to be accessible to mediocre drivers. It was purity of driving feel and neutral handling. The original is in high demand today (although they didn't sell well either); they can't give the new one away. Maybe a combustion only GT3 version with real brakes and a manual would get some attention?
So a V6 at 90° would be even better...

I am sure it is a nice engine. But the information provided here does nothing to convince that it is a special engine. A lot more technical detail is needed for that.

Shame car was a flop though.
Because it looks almost nothing like the original, a few styling cues on the inside look a lot like it but outside it's nothing. The Acura 'beak' never looked good imho. I get that cars in the 90s were wedge like, I don't care, at least show a NOD to the original.
Still have my 92 and track it, still runs and drives great.
original is a timeless design, shame about it not carrying over at all
