  • Hey we got a new shop and a second channel! Check out "More Mortske Repair"!!!
    / @moremortskerepair4354
This week we'll wrap up the plumbing of the fuel system on my 1949 Ford F1 pickup and start in on modifying the factory GM wire harness to meet our needs. But not without some struggles along the way... We'll also begin routing some transmission cooler lines and install a new LS swap compatible aluminum aftermarket radiator as well. Oh yeah, and we finally have a functional column shifter! If you can't stand to see this pickup LS swapped and want to buy it to put some other powerplant in it you can own it for the low low price of $15,000 and do with it as you choose! As always, thanks for watching!
Check out our new and improved Mortske merch site!!

That's a shame it was actually a really well done video, informative.
Just think, even if you never intend to attempt this yourself, you're armed with useless info if you ever see someone try -- You know you're gonna need a special tool for that operation!

I think most car guys expect to buy some parts to improve an old vehicle. A rare few seem to find more joy in never buying anything. I had a brother that would insist junk yard parts were always better. After about 5 times of going to give him a jump, because he refused to buy new cables. I finally said enough. You walk, you learn.

On a different note: When disconnecting the neutral safety switch on the transmission, heat the connector on the switch with a hair dryer to soften the special di-electric grease used on this connection. Once warmed up, the connector will come apart with relative ease.

Mortske, The trick you are looking for with the Mastercool is to use the threads on the hydraulic piece to pull that die deal back out. Once you are done just thread it back out before you take anything apart. It will pull that die out if you go far enough. I've got the same tool. I have never used it on the green tube, but on the zinc coated you don't need to grind off the coating or use lube. I'm still hoping Hamms Sammiches come back some time. Keep up the great videos.

@@841k9 my most unpleasant experience came from the anti-theft system mortske mentioned. Unpredictably and very inconveniently my truck would think i was stealing it, and shut down anywhere it felt like it. Wouldnt restart for at least 15 minutes. Spoke to many mechanics and one actually tried to help me bypass the system and disable it, but never got it to stop. I wouldnt willingly bring that kind of issue to any project thats supposed to be fun.

Apparently no local Ford dealership (hard to imagine). Anyway it was far to rusted away. Sorry I haven't kept up, having dealt with finger amputation, reattached, more surgery and pt. Glad you got the big shop with cool stuff in the background.

  • @hardball107

Hey Mortske, love your stuff. Just a quick note on your fuel system. I use the Corvette filter/regulators on my swaps, the return line dumps into the filler neck 6" down from the cap. If the filler neck is removable I will put a 90* bend on the line and solder it in. The wet line fitting is a great idea too, got a part # or source ? The pressure line deadheads up into the fuel rail for a one line easy installation. If you have a regulator in the fuel rail you can cap that off or get a regulator block off from Ebay for about 7 bucks. Works great up to about a 500-550hp level. Also a $90 LS standalone harness works great and avoids headaches.

Great video as usual. Second channel is awesome too! Last video- "chip'n'seal" (what it's called around here) is more cost effective. I think it's something like they can do 25 miles of chip'n'seal to 1 mile of repaving at the same cost. If they did it while we were in school, our principal would announce it and ask us to please drive slowly til we were off the highway since most kids can't drive 60 on fresh gravel.

Glad you did this. It will help me foresee possible pitfalls when/if I ever do one. Yea once you take into account the fittings, redoing fuel lines every decade, buying the tooling to use the high pressure nylon fuel lines are the way to go with ethanol gas.

Your truck reminds me of the old Ford panel truck my Uncle used to have back in the good old days. It was parked at my grandparents house. It only had two seats up front I think, we would get some kitchen chairs and put them in the back so we all could go for a ride up to A&W or Dairy queen for ice cream or a drink. Those were the days.

I understand I once was scared too but I figured it out! It's still more expensive to carb a ls and you still need to wire in the 6ls! Thanks mortske for showing people it's not difficult to use a stock wiring harness !

A lot of content, a lot of different parts of a project coming together & a bit of a struggle here and there to show folks that everyone has problems and they can all be overcome. Troubleshooting the no start condition may have left you feeling dejected now & again but you never gave up and you emerged with a fuller understanding of the wiring and especially the fuel delivery. My compliments andcongratulations to you! Keep up the great work.

Love the videos! Keep ‘em coming. Also for the hard plastic fuel line I had to replace a fitting on my Tahoe. The hot water trick to soften the line didn’t work well. I ended up using a heat gun. It softened the line then I poured cold water on it after I made the connection. Worked great. Just be careful not to over heat the plastic line. 👍👍
