Great review Dan, you really nailed why I too loved the original Twister. It was absolutely ridiculous but I loved how they leaned into it (Cow!) and Bill Paxton, one of my favourite character actors ever, was a charismatic leading man. I will be seeing the new one!
I got to admit that in 1996 I was already 33 years old but I liked the original Twister for the same reasons you did as a 13 year old. That may tell us something about me, or not, but the flying cows, the realistic destruction, and maybe even the melodrama (that I don't remember much) were just great. @DanMurrellMovies 100% agree. Early in the movie, the reporter asks Kate for her last name, but she doesn't give it. Spot on assessment of the movie. I wouldn't see Twisters again, the original totally kicked its azz. Also, the folks who live in Tornado Alley are aware of their surroundings and can tell a regular thunderstorm from a supercell. The sky may turn a greenish color.
I was confused by your beating around the bush about an Actor they wanted to play a certain part. Do you mean they wanted HELEN HUNT to play Daisy's mother? That would have required the script to open up a whole new back story and address Bill Paxton's absence. Might have been distracting. I would have enjoyed maybe a scene where there is a TORNADO CHASER wall of fame in the town square and they show a picture of Bill Paxton, and Glenn Powell mentions he was inspired to chase Tornadoes by Bill Paxton's character. That would have been a nice satisfying connecting Nod.
His absence is ease to explain away. 1 heart attack or insert disease here or 2 Was somehow killed by a tornado. That could have been the main catalyst for why Kate wanted to start storm chasing. Her father taught her what to look for in storms.

Hey Dan. I just saw Twisters and loved it. But which character are you talking about that you think was earmarked for a returning character from the original? I'm racking my brain but I can't think of who it could have been.
I have a love for original Twisters that is absolutely over the top. I loved, Loved Helen Hunt. and I also really like Glenn Powell so, I'm really looking forward to this movie.
I had a great time in the theater watching this one. For me the main reason for that was the charm of the actress and her off the charts chemistry with the lead actor.
So glad you loved this, Dan. I was really rooting for it ever since I learned LIC was attached and also read what he said in interviews about not feeling like every movie needs to have a political message.
Twister has a special place in my heart, being my favorite movie from my childhood it was scary that they were gonna fail with this BUT all of the charm of the first one was there and im glad to say i enjoyed it sooo much! Easy cool summer movie just like its supposed to be! There IS hope for new movies after all!
I watched Twister yesterday, and I love that movie so much. I also watched it in the theater when it came out. I was 12 though. I'll give the new one a shot after your review.
I've been doing the same thing lately. I, of course, watched Independemce Day a few weeks ago, followed by The Day After Tomorrow, the original Twister, & San Andreas. Next, I'll probably catch 2012 & Armageddon over the next few days 🙂
You won’t be impressed. I watched it last night and it’s quite boring at parts. The characters are a bit boring and the “fun” ones are a caricature of the original cast. Honestly, the main character is boring.
@@Pupeyes Spot on, Pup. The story line didn't flow and the main characters had zero chemistry, although Glenn's character started out good but fell flat halfway through. Daisy wasn't good, looked like she was acting. Props for the special effects.
It was a really entertaining movie, liked it a lot! A great time at the movies and it kind of reminded me of Top Gun: Maverick. Nothing ground-breaking, yet such an entertaining, fun, exhilarating and even emotional story. Summer movie at its best!
I'm torn...I've been hyped to see this movie for months but just a few days ago my family's hometown of Rome, NY got nailed really bad by an EF-2 and so I'm still trying to wrap my head around seeing old stomping grounds reduced to piles of bricks and debris so it's kind of melancholized my enthusiasm for this movie.
Twister is one of my all time favorites. It was my first disaster movie as a kid and it’s why I love disaster movies. I just saw Twisters for the second time and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. I went into it the second time with the perspective of it being a remake instead of a sequel. I’m liable to see it a third or fourth time.
saw it with my boyfriend last night and we were absolutely blown away!!! such an amazing summer movie and a great depiction of the american spirit in a positive light.
I'm glad to hear that everyone is enjoying it. No review I've watched has mentioned the music, though. I loved the score in Twister, and I hope they have a score that sounds similar.
I didn't think the score in the movie was bad, but it wasn't as great as Twister's score. There are also a lot more songs in place of score in this one.
@@DanMurrellMovies That's a slight bummer. But I love the first film, and I've been pretty sold since the first trailer, so I'll be checking it out tomorrow. Thanks for the response. :)
We're up to 24 confirmed tornados in the Chicago area from last week. I think I'm tornadoed out. Maybe I'll check it out when it hits a streaming service......
I was in my 20s when the original Twister came out. My friend and I were so blown away by the effects, we dragged a third friend to come back with us the same day to watch again. I’ve always said there are some movies where you just have to shut off the brain and enjoy the fun. Some dumb movies entertain, some are just a visual orgasm, but every once and a while you get a movie like Twister. You expect it to be an enjoyable dumb movie. As Dan pointed out, the melodrama is what slightly put this summer flick ahead of others. It actually outperformed Mission Impossible (part I) at the box office. Glad to hear Twisters seems to be on the same level. My kiddos and I want to see it in 4D to feel all the rumblings. Should be fun.
Hey, Dan! Just wondering: do you think if this movie's successful, that we'll get another boom of disaster movies like how it happened in the late 90s after the original?
Oooh i'm actually considering going to see this now, it sounds great! I loved the original movie so it definitely sounds like I will love this one too!
If I'm not mistaken, there was an interview with Julie Andrews where she said she turned down a cameo, giving the reason it steal attention from Emily Blunt.
Coming from a fan who loved watching you win so many Movie Fight debates, I wish you would go a little deeper in your reviews. You understand story structure and acting much more than these vids lead you to believe that it would be a welcomed addition to go a tad deeper in your review breakdowns. Good or bad movie.
to be honest I don't understand this sentiment of "glen powell is everywhere". Since Top gun, he's had devotion, anyone but you, hitman and now twisters. Thats not an insane output, 1-2 a year and its not like he is hopping from franchise to franchise. Twisters is now an IP sure but the other ones are all non IP. He is also generally a standout and people generally like his performances in decently reviewed movies that sometimes even become money earners like anyone but you. so big project participation in maverick, some good choices in movies, can be a co-lead in a money earner for a genre that doesn't usually earn much in theatres recently, and is decently acclaimed, then of course you are going to see him more.
I’ve never seen the original Twister but I had a fantastic time watching this film, its great to see a movie re-use a great premise but not depend on the characters or story of the original too heavily. Tornado chasing is a great concept, and they didn’t have to completely ripoff the original to cash in on that concept. No wonder its written by Joseph Kosinski
I wasn't happy with it. I really needed some old cast show up. I think they should have made the lead the daughter of the two from the 1st. It would have made it feel more like a sequel. I don't see this as having any real connection to the original.
The only thing that disappointed me in Twisters was that they didn’t kiss - otherwise I had a great time with it and it was on par for me with the original.
Hands Down! David Corenswet was a standout for me, every time he was on screen...he was just chewing the scenery. I couldn't help but giddy up watching him playing such a dickhead. Seeing those behind the scenes pictures of him as Superman getting hugged by kids, saving a dog and even coming across a squirrel. That juxtaposition just weirdly got me more excited for the Superman film. Whenever he showed up in the back of my mind I was like "That's Superman!" Hehehe. (P.S not a huge fan of perm hair Clark Kent look tbh)
I have not seen the movie yet I'm waiting for it to come out on Max or wherever. Are you saying that Kate Cooper didn't go visit her aunt Jo, cameo HH who took her out to the barn, and pulled a dusty tarp off of the remaining Dorothy? I mean the trailers were so obvious with the blonde girl in the white tank top and the Cary Elwes look-alike with the aviator glasses and cap. really now after 28 years there is still no evolution in the tornado prediction business.
Thank you for the review Dan. I might try and check the movie out this weekend. However, I’ve actually never seen the original. Does that matter? I’m guessing I’ll miss some Easter eggs but is that all? Please let me know.
I saw it and it was definitely big, dumb fun. Did I guess 98% of what was going to happen? Yup! Were large swathes of the movie incredibly silly? Yup! Don't care. It was so much fun and exactly what i was looking for in my summer movie. Great rec, Dan!
I could care less about what this film will be like from a plot level because I know that just doesn't matter to the audiences that will watch this, but I am curious to see if it's gonna be appealing after that first weekend. Still got to remember Twister also had it's then high quality effects to wow audiences. What Twisters is offering on that end is nothing new at this point, so I'm interested in seeing if this will suffer the same fate as "Independence Day: Resurgence" and "Pacific Rim: Uprising". Also, if they are intending to take the battle to mother nature next time.
I do think being from the Tornado Alley area will help your viewing pleasure of this movie. Otherwise I have seen reviewers that are not from these areas, think the tornadoes and the circus behind them are to surreal. That part seemed to me pretty accurate though.
Let’s just be happy they didn’t greenlight Helen Hunts pitch of “Twister but the whole cast is brown & black except me. I return as a haggard storm chaser and will die”. She pitched this in 2020 and likely didn’t return to Twisters because her pitch was shot down.
I'm from Norway, and we do not even have storms, much less twisters. So this is sci-fi for me.

The best review of Twisters is on the Fish Jelly youtube channel.
Great review, as always Dan!
Hey Dan. I just saw Twisters and loved it. But which character are you talking about that you think was earmarked for a returning character from the original? I'm racking my brain but I can't think of who it could have been.
He's 100% talking about Maura Tierney playing the mom.
I saw it in Dolby Atmos and it was fantastic. Fun. Popcorn summer blockbuster. Always a good time for 2 hours
This movie was such a great time! Going again a second time this weekend!
Dan I just saw Kill because of you and loved it so much. Thank you
Let's see if this movie will *BLOW* past expectations
Bazinga
This movie was so much fun, going again to watch it in Screen X
Thanks for the review, Dan! I was on the fence about this one.
Wish it could of had more original movie references but it was solid
"Aunt Meg" from the original could of been a neat addition if possible with the plot.
I’ve been revisiting all the big disaster movies and I can’t wait to see this one!
I've been doing the same thing lately. I, of course, watched Independemce Day a few weeks ago, followed by The Day After Tomorrow, the original Twister, & San Andreas. Next, I'll probably catch 2012 & Armageddon over the next few days 🙂
If Twisters rises to the level of Twister - a movie with an absolutely absurd cast of monumental actors - I will be very impressed.
You won’t be impressed. I watched it last night and it’s quite boring at parts. The characters are a bit boring and the “fun” ones are a caricature of the original cast. Honestly, the main character is boring.
Dream my friend...the original Twister is pure 90s masterpiece!
@@SylviusTheMad it’s not even close
It's great!
@@Pupeyes Spot on, Pup. The story line didn't flow and the main characters had zero chemistry, although Glenn's character started out good but fell flat halfway through. Daisy wasn't good, looked like she was acting. Props for the special effects.
One of the better summer popcorn in the last few years
I had to google if there actually was an actor named "Corn Sweat"! 4:47 🤣🤣 It's Corenswet btw 👍
Isn’t that what I said?
@@DanMurrellMovies of course Mr. Dan, sorry, I meant to clarify for other watchers that may have had the same question 😅
@@ronniemorris5386 I also heard "Cornsweat" and was very confused LOL
It was a really entertaining movie, liked it a lot! A great time at the movies and it kind of reminded me of Top Gun: Maverick. Nothing ground-breaking, yet such an entertaining, fun, exhilarating and even emotional story. Summer movie at its best!
Try to see this in 4DX if you can! It was a blast.
I totally understand - a similar thing happened last year to my hometown, and it's a surreal experience.
This review made my day -- 100% gonna go check this movie out asap. I LOVED the original movie and can't wait
Can't wait to see it tomorrow. DUSTY LIVES!
saw it with my boyfriend last night and we were absolutely blown away!!! such an amazing summer movie and a great depiction of the american spirit in a positive light.
Minari is pure gold. Now I have to give it a chance to Twisters.
the summer movie season has been a bit lackluster so far for me. maybe I'll watch this one.
Twisters is a straight to DVD clearance rack. 5/10 at best.
Love this movie. Seen it many times on tv. One of those you allways hang with, while zapping channels. Rip Big B.
Hey, Dan! Just wondering: do you think if this movie's successful, that we'll get another boom of disaster movies like how it happened in the late 90s after the original?
I enjoy it. It's fun and it never takes itself too seriously
Oooh i'm actually considering going to see this now, it sounds great! I loved the original movie so it definitely sounds like I will love this one too!
I saw it and loved it. It's just as cheesey as the orginal, the acting, and visual are great.
If I'm not mistaken, there was an interview with Julie Andrews where she said she turned down a cameo, giving the reason it steal attention from Emily Blunt.
Saw it last night. It's fine.
This really doesn't even need to be called a sequel. Has nothing to do with the original besides the title font.
Just saw it in IMAX. It was a hell of a good time! Just good old fashioned fun and a great time at the movies. Loved it!
I had the exact same feeling, Corenswet was my favourite part of the movie and made me unbelievably excited for Superman next year
BTW the best way to view this movie is in 4DX. It's the most fun I've had in a movie theater in years.
I've never done 4DX but this sounds like the perfect movie for that format.
No, there's nothing that would require seeing the first movie.
@@DanMurrellMovies Thank you!!!
I saw it and it was definitely big, dumb fun. Did I guess 98% of what was going to happen? Yup! Were large swathes of the movie incredibly silly? Yup! Don't care. It was so much fun and exactly what i was looking for in my summer movie. Great rec, Dan!
Oh thank god, I already bought my families tickets for Sunday and I absolutely love the original. :Þ
