I like how, as an Oklahoman himself, the director fought to have the film shot on location in Oklahoma instead of having Georgia as a stand-in. So glad he won out in the end.
Honestly I liked the insurance plot line due to the the current underlying issue of real estate developers buying out land after disasters from people. It's predatory due to the position the victims are in. You could actually see this issue happen last year after the big fires in Hawaii.
The best movie reflect the current societal issues. Most female that are bad usually slip up there and try to make a film reflective of old times minus nostalgia
Yeah, I liked it better than the romantic plotline. They never really developed the real estate plot because they were wasting time on the love interest.
Fun fact: in the movie, when Tyler and Kate are at the rodeo and Tyler tells Kate about how he witnessed his first tornado. It was real. On another show and on an interview, he told the producer that when he was about 8 years old, he was driving with his aunt and a few of his cousins to his aunt's ranch. Eventually, he said that he saw a giant tornado headed towards Jarrell on the highway right in front of him. Glen Powell witnessed the infamous dead man walking tornado.
I would have been in that tornado had it actually kept traveling south. At the time we lived on the west side of I35S and it was staying on that side of the freeway and heading south. We were south of Jarrell and believe me, we had the news on, and were watching the sky. My BF at the time was out in the parking lot yelling up at me, "Come look at the sky, it's all green!" I yelled back, "Get inside!"
I got excited (and scared) when I heard/saw the tornado sirens. I thought, "Swegle will love this!" I also loved it when Kate and her friends discussed hiding in the overpass and she said, "No! That's the WORST place to be during a tornado!" But they literally had no other choice.
I saw Reed Timmer's reaction to this and he basically said the same. He said that when there's no choice of escaping, he would've also hide in the overpass even though he knew it's very dangerous.
And the story of her jumping out of the bath and running butt naked into the field to look up into a thunderstorm, just like Bill's extreme story (though he admitted to only being half naked).
So the original draft of the script actually had her as Bill and Jo's daughter. I remember reading that somewhere. It got changed through rewrites. But they did keep a few of both Bill and Jo's qualities in her as throwbacks.
I’m an extra during the rodeo chaos, I’m briefly seen behind Glenn when he is running. I’m in bright blue jeans and a brown shirt, and a white cowboy hat. Such a fun experience to film, even when it was in December 😂
I wasn’t an extra in the El Reno scenes, but it was awesome to see the scenes at the end where it was Filmed there. I live in Dallas now, but I lived in El Reno all my life until then, And it was so much better than the filming of Rainman when it was there.
Overall I liked it, I liked how down to earth it felt with the characters and story. I was surprised how much I liked the characters by the end of the movie. Although what was javi thinking driving in front of the tornado with Kate who clearly has PTSD from the tornado at the start of the movie.
It kinda makes sense, Javi felt invincible due to the fact he now has a corporate sponsor and his potential is limitless. While he became distant from the tragedy and his friend. Meanwhile Kate was still traumatized from it and tried but failed to put on a brave face for her friend.
The most unbelievable thing about the film is that despite being in a accident where 3 other storm chasers died. Not a single other storm chaser recognised Kate after just 5 years. The WX community would have recognised her before she even stepped out the storm par truck.
Not to discredit this comment but Kate makes a point not to share her full name with Ben and Tyler’s team for this reason. Tyler also says that it was one of his buddy’s who finally recognized her and told him who she was when he meets her at her house. I think since it was only in off handed comments it became an easy detail to miss:)
Yes! It was excellent! I don't understand why people were expecting a carbon copy of the original, that's impossible. This is its own thing with its own story line and it was absolutely fantastic! The small references to the original were fun and just enough to honor it. I'm also glad the characters weren't overly romanticized - their growing relationship didn't overpower the story. It definitely wasn't Bill and Joe and Mellissa love triangle like, "she didn't sign the papers?" 😂
It more or less was. They inverted sexes of the main character. Gave her even more in depth super powers basically as Bill and changed the goal to make it more grandeous. Typical requel. That being said. I did like it
@@plantenthusiast3052 I literally turned to my girlfriend when the twins showed up and said "What was next after the sisters...the tornado at the drive-thru right? They're gonna go somewhere for recreation and its gonna hit them there, yeah?" Sure enough~
When I saw the El Reno water tower, I absolutely lost it. I told the person sitting next to me about the El Reno tornado incident. Thankfully they were a friend.
I live down here in Dallas now, but I grew up in El Reno and I warned the prince that were with me to go see it Sunday, that I would go crazy when I saw the scenes from El Reno. Seeing the preview for it, I was curious how they put the water tower next to, the red brick building downtown across the street from the theater. CGI is amazing!
I wouldn’t say the film was trying to say that Tyler had the “sixth sense” for storm chasing. There are scenes that explicitly show Tyler copying Kate’s movements/decisions, showing that he can’t “feel what the storm is thinking”. He’s essentially the male version of Jo, and Kate is the female version of Bill.
I got the impression he was testing her / almost mocking her because he genuinely did not expect her to have the same instinct for it that he did. He became intrigued because he figured out right away that she had intentionally lied through her teeth about which storms to track next. He knew where to go on his own and was pleased to discover that she did too. He finally met someone else who got it, and that’s why he remains so interested in her after that. 🤷🏼♀️
@@Neukarsmell that’s honestly an interesting take on it. Idk. Tyler’s “abilities” wasn’t honestly dwelled upon too much throughout the film, but he does explain that he’s educated on storm chasing. The film felt more so focused on Kate’s abilities, rather than her education. Even more so, it’s Tyler’s education that helps her crack the code on the moisture-polymer. Basically being a perfect balance between the two characters. At the beginning, I honestly thought Kate was supposed to be Jo and Bill’s offspring, but Helen Hunt has been retired for a minute and is focusing on her daughter (which is more than respectable), so she’s a completely different character here. That’s why I think it’s more so implied that it’s Kate’s, and Kate alone, abilities.
What troubled me the most, with both movies really, was the way they made it look as though storm chasers compete against one another. They don't. They all work together to find the best vantage points and to keep each other out of danger. Was a little disappointed that they didn't pay homage to the TWISTEX team even though they made a point to have El Reno featured in the film.
@@ARandomInternetUser08 The different scenes are probably referencing different real-life events. The one I'm talking about is at the climax of the movie, when the truck goes into the tornado - trying to be a bit vague in case anyone reads and gets unwanted spoilers, but there's a shot from near the ground of the truck rolling away from the camera that is very similar to that footage from El Reno in 2013. I would be very surprised if it wasn't meant to be an homage. :)
@@illgottencranes oh, I don't know what I was thinking. I was thinking of the beginning of the movie where I think they made it specifically referencing the 1999 F5 that killed people under an overpass.
Saw it the day it came out. I really loved the details and El Reno Easter egg. I really also loved the mental health aspect of it. That was really awesome! I would recommend watching it.
Yes. Our town got hit by an EF3 last year, and while I reacted by getting extremely angry after our apartment building suffered a lot of damage (which is STILL waiting to be completely repaired), my childhood friend and coworker still suffers PTSD because her home was also damaged. To this day, tornadoes make my blood boil.
I can't even find the right words to describe how awful I feel for you, your friend, coworker, and all affected. I hope you guys can mentally recover and rebuild over there! 💖
Super glad we got the 4K release of Twister alongside this film! I absolutely love both of them! Just got the copy of Twister in 4k yesterday, and they tightened up the sounds, soundtrack, and that one explosion that Jonas’s car caused when it crashed into the ground, (thank God for that)
Someone should make a tornado horror movie where we follow someone who doesn't live in a safe area having to find shelter when a tornado is caught heading straight for their town, it'd be cool to see people surviving the tornado instead of chasing it.
Give "13 minutes" a go. It follows four families in a town and shows the perspective of a tornado from multiple perspectives. It's got that horror aspect to it and I loved it. Harrowing scenes like the girl standing in the hail coated road, looking on to the oncoming storm. It's a good watch!
@@dallastornado2554there is a tornado game on steam but it’s more about chasing. Haven’t bought it yet but if you have a good enough computer it should be able to run good
@@MooseNotHerestrongly agree, if you are just in it for action 13 minutes sucks, but if you like suspense and that sick feeling in your stomach, 13 minutes is amazing
I just came back from watching it in IMAX and I LOVED it. The nods to the original movie, El Reno. Just wow! And we actually had a tornado up here in Canada yesterday, puts you in the mood!
I watched it in regular format on Sunday, and I want to go see it in an IMAX theater really soon. I grew up in El Reno and was there when they did the filming downtown. I remember when the Twistex crew was killed in the “chasing” of the 2013 El Reno tornado, and the first scene felt like a tribute to that crew.
@@ff2_clipz448 Right?!!! I did hear about that on the news and was just north of missing one of those confirmed tornadoes. It's insane that Beryl still had enough strength to produce all that after dying down all that time.
It was a pretty good movie. One of my main problems were tornadoes that showed up with little to no warning. During the rodeo scene, they probably would of evacuated 10-20 minutes beforehand. Same thing with the tornado that hit El Reno. Still a great movie, but it doesn't hit as hard with the nostalgia factor as the original.
Hard agree. Especially when you remember earlier in the movie they say that Oklahoma is experiencing a tornado outbreak. Like not only would the NWS, not only would local weather stations be watching, but events like a rodeo/baseball games have been shut down for lightning being seein nearby
I haven't watched the movie, so I have no clue how sudden the tornado was, but I will say that Tornados can appear suddenly and with minimal warning. Case in point, the Matador Tornado last year. Tornado Sirens went off mere minutes before it hit the town, and there were no real warnings by NOAA prior.
Loved Twisters! I particularly enjoyed the costume callbacks to the original movie, and yes, that one dude in the cap and sunglasses is a direct reference to Jonas. Has to be, all I saw was Jonas when he was on screen.
I went in with low expectations but actually kind of loved it. I love that Kate was unknowingly on the equivalent of Jonas’ team from the first movie, with the scrappy UA-camrs being a little more like Jo and Bill’s ragtag team, especially with the red Dodge Ram. I loved all the hints at storm chasing lore that were in there that you’d recognize only if you’re into storm chasing, whether it’s throwbacks to the folks who died in Moore 99 under the bridges, Reed Timmer’s Dominator, and even Javi’s truck on its side reminded me so much of Mike Bettes getting rolled at El Reno. It wasn’t perfect. The science with the twins was totally inaccurate, for one, and chasers would never ever encourage people to seek shelter in a movie theater of all places. Literally any other store in that strip would have been a better choice. And lots more issues… But still… I loved it. I thought the romance was cute without being too much. I’m with you; I’d love another movie of those two. Thanks for sharing!
I grew up in El Reno, and spent many times in that movie theater. The wildest memory I had was being at a movie in the theater, and seeing downtown tore up, but there was one thing that stuck out to me and it was being in that theater as a kid, and I remember a tornado warning that went off when I was at the theater.
Lots of this movie was filmed around my hometown in OK. The main house from the movie is actually a house owned by family friends. The only reason I haven’t gone to see the movie in theatres…my college was hit by an EF2 tornado last year and I’m scared to relive it lmao
(SPOILERS!!!!) I like how at the end when Kate is in the "EF5" Tyler's truck is getting slid and moved which shows that A tornado is still dangerous and still deadly and no matter how much spikes (or oggers) are dug in the ground, you can still get lofted into the tornado
Me and my wife took my mother with us to see the movie, so I was just a little worried about what the content was going to be like but once it started, we all were immediately on the edge of our seats and stayed there. I thought the movie was really good and very intense. The theater was packed, and everyone was glued to the big screen. I would definitely give it 4 out 5 stars and would recommend anyone who liked the first movie go see it. Yeah, it didn't have the same magic as the first one, but then again, I haven't seen it a thousand times yet haha.
The part that bothered me the most was early on when the guy was saying CAPE was at 4000… while the tornado was ON THE GROUND RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM. It’s like a fan at a championship parade saying “Hey I’m looking at our win-loss record and I think this could be our year!” Good on them for mentioning CAPE and picking a realistic value for a big outbreak. I just felt like they didn’t adequately research the context in which someone would say that.
OMG finally your upload! hehe I loved the movie, it was so good, when it comes to the tornadoes i loved the ominousness of them, like a T-Rex appearance in Jurassic Park. As a physicist i loved the scientific representation (the struggle of studying and the difference of perspectives with people of distinct backgrounds, i.e. Tyler), loved the safety awareness about overpasses (possibly referencing the overpass video(?) or the 1999 Bridge Creek/Moore Tornado(?)), the fact that they finally took the dangerousness of tornado debris seriously (unlike the 1996 one that people walked inside of tornadoes as if it was nothing, just fast wind). When it comes to the plot I liked the references they throw in, like Dorothy V, El Reno, the subversion of the group dynamics of the first movie (giving you a foreshadow of the break up and change of work group), i like that it challenges you about the nature of research and to not judge other tornado fans just because they have fun and look like hill billies lol. I also liked that the romantic plot was more vaguely insinuated, they never kiss or take it seriously. Also, as a mexican I liked the cultural diversity of the hillbillie group, finally brown and black storm chasers, although it's the midwestern red states with rodeos and all, it's just nice to see it. It's nearly a 10/10 for me, a great tornado movie and super approachable for general audiences, my GF loved it. I heard it's going well at the box office, I hope they release promotional material, like the movie on VHS for old times sake.
As a native Oklahoman, I remember when Tim Samaras and his crew were in my hometown of El Reno, observing and “chasing” that tornado, when it killed them. When I saw the first part of the movie, it brought me back to that day. Very real and very sad. The end of the movie was filmed on location in downtown El Reno.
Hey Swegle only reason why the big bad tornado at the end of the movie looked like that was due to all the smoke it took up after demolishing that oil rig. Also The Oil rig was a funny little reference to the 2011 El Reno Tornado (Just a little thing I found interesting)
You should watch the review that MeteoTechWx have up. They're a father-daughter meteorologist team and regularly review only tornado movies. They're good. They gave Twisters their seal of approval, as well.
Watching storm chasers discuss it is much better than movie reviewers. I will say this, one criticism from me is the thought that fireworks would not get sucked high enough into a tornado because it is too big. Reed Timmer has launched Estes rockets into them and they quicky got sucked up very high. It's the same as the idea for Dorothy itself.
your videos got me into weather and tornado stuff :]! this movie was such a blast for me, i loved the terminology, effects, and lighthearted vibes so much💛💛ben is a favorite for sure!!
Only thing missing was the original soundtrack. I don’t know why they passed up on having Mark Mancina (who wrote the soundtrack for Twister) do it. He even offered to and they still passed on him. Otherwise it was amazing!
SERIOUSLY! I feel like the soundtrack could've been like the original score if not, better. The thing I loved about Twister's score was it sounded like what a tornado looks like and how the tone was light-hearted but full of adventure. The new Score in Twisters didn't really stick with me or wow me
@@BEARTUBEthe original movie’s score felt like a big blockbuster, this one was a bunch of song that most storm chasers provablyy have heard or listen to
Yeah, the music wasn't as good as Twister, and I wish there were more tie-ins with the first movie too, ESPECIALLY Jo. She should've been Kate's mother. I don't agree with the director's reason for not having her in.
Friendly reminder Twisters is not a full sequel to Twister 96. Its a standalone sequel that’s loosely in the same universe and at its most basic, a more modern version of Twister 96 (embodied via Tyler and Kate kinda taking aspects from Bill, maybe a holdover from earlier versions of the script). Dorthy V is probably there as a reference, maybe as a in universe sequel to the original DORTHY I and TOTO (which inspired the first Dorthys).
I watched Twisters on release day in the D-Box seats (so they vibrate and move with the movie) I loved that they included El Reno in it, perfect town to show a super tornado in. Not as good as Twister obviously but they did very well
Twisters was amazing, it was action packed and stayed true to real tornadoes and how they act and what they do, it wasn’t tornadoes being predatory and chasing down the main characters, it’s the main characters chasing the tornadoes down, also the El Reno reference was awesome
I watched it too! I was convinced to go when I saw there was a special showing at my local theater that had a panel of four meteorologists and storm chasers that were extras in the movie for a Q & A session before the show instead of previews. The movie itself was a little cheesy and over the top at times, but it did its tense moments well, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I also live in Oklahoma so I liked that I recognized most of the locations, albeit some only by name.
The light up movie sign with the red arrow that says GALAXY is a reference to Twister: Ride it Out. I loved finding all the Easter eggs to the first Twister movie and other things. They were subtle references that didn’t try to show off too hard. But if you saw it, you knew.
Would probably still rate Twister as my favourite tornado movie but this one was great too! I also loved that Bill Paxton's son got a cameo in the movie. He plays the grumpy motel guest during the rodeo tornado scene.
Ohhhh ok! I knew he had a cameo in the movie, but didn’t know where it was. I’m going to see it in IMAX a second time, and I will pay closer attention this time.
I loved this movie, as a tornado lover, it was dramatic, as dramatic as the first one. I really enjoyed the cast, and don’t go into it expecting realism. There’s a lot of dramatic scenes that are not realistic at all. But I loved the ending of The El Reno reference to really drive home the “oh shit” factor! I kinda do hope they do another with this cast.
I've already seen it twice lol and it's incredible. The tornado look more legit than in any other movie. I love that they put El Reno at the end although I was bummed that Moore wasn't mentioned at all. Really hits home for me as someone who lives in Oklahoma
I JUST SAW THE MOVIE TODAY!!!! Throughout the entire film I thought “man I wonder what swegle studios thought of this” and low and behold you already have a video out!!! i LOVED how they pointed out the overpass death trap!!!
The fact that Mike Morgan made a cameo. That is everything! And of course, ths final scenes taking place in El Reno. I feel like the people who made this movie actually cared about the details.
Finally! If you haven't watched it yet - please please watch it in 4D. It was insane, the closest thing to seeing a real tornado for me (I live in eastern europe lol). I plan to see it again, for the sountrack and the 4d effects
I think it was an amazing movie and the plot of it was just amazing i love how they dont show much between kate and tyler but you can see its there and its just amazing i like how they put some easter eggs from the old movie into the new one and the friendship between the cast and people in the movie and in reality but i did hate anything about this movie it was awesome and i hope they make a sequel for it so we can see the relationship between tyler and kate growing more and i just want more of storm chasing but before i saw this movie i wanted to become a teacher now i want to be a meteorologist and storm chase just like tyler and kate and it seems like its the coolest job out there
Saw it twice in 4DX (with the moving seats and water and wind). Absolutely phenomenal. About to see it again in regular 2D here in a few hours. I think it's possibly one of the greatest, if not THE greatest movie in this entire genre that's ever been produced.
Yeeeeeeesss! I was waiting for you to do a little review on this movie. When I saw it came out this month, I thought, “I bet Swegle’s gonna do a review on it” and here it is! I never clicked on a video so fast, lol. Thank you for being awesome!
One thing i dont like in movies like this is when the main character has some "sixth sense." Knowledge about tornadoes comes from experience, not just natural talent. It sort of undermines the people who actually worked to get where they are. Also, they sort of make tornadoes seem less extreme than they are because they can just go and drive to a tornado any other day and find one no problem and act like its no big deal. Also also, the wind is not consistent at all. Like HOW is this BUS being blown towards them while theyre just fine even though the bus is further from the tornado?! This happens a lot in the final scene. Other than that through, it was great.
Again, you have to view the movie as it is, a movie. It's not going to be realistic. Some aspects of realism would have to be sacrificed in order to add tension or dramatic effect for the audience.
I'm a bit butthurt about this movie not simply because it doesn't fully appear to tornado nerds, but simply because I was expecting a tornado movie that depicts the true horrors of being a stormchaser. Being so close to something so horrifyingly beautiful or the strange patterns of how aggressive tornados move in one direction into the other. Basically having one tornado movie that takes stormchasing a bit more serious.
I saw this movie twice, the first time at a normal theater and the second time at a drive in theater, both in the span of one trip. It has to be one of my top 10 movies.
I kept reminding myself that my childhood memories and nostalgia would make it hard to compete with the original... but in the end, it was definitely worth seeing. I didn't like the characters quite as much (Dusty is so hard to compete with) but very solid sequel. Also agree that the lack of agenda was refreshing - like getting together with family, and no one starts arguing politics, religion, etc. Just set it aside for now, and enjoy.
I actually really liked this movie's tornado flashback because it was set in daylight this time. It also reminded me of the 2013 El Reno tornado, which really did catch a ton of expert meteorologists off guard, ending with the deaths four professionals and at keast four regular civilians.
I went in to it with super low expectations, I just thought it would be dumb fun. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the story for the most part and liked most characters. Happy the movie came out well
According to IMDB, the angry customer in the hotel is Bill Paxton's son. I loved the SFX and enjoyed the ending. The tornado eye shots are always cringe, though - they look great, but it bugs me that an audience might think you can be at the centre of a tornado without being sandblasted to death! One thing I wish they had done was to add a bit of tension and suspense pre - tornado. The quietening immediately beforehand, the green skies, etc. All in all, I thought it was a worthy sequel.
Tyler quickly grew on me despite the initial implication to make him appear to be the main antagonist of the film, his charm and soon to be apparent wit made him HOT
1:08 As a younger tornado enthusiast, my mom basically had to drag me to the living room to watch Twister, and when I heard you say "look at these graphics" I just immediately remember the closing scene where the car explodes with the generic explosion effect.
@@GlitchedPhoenix I was watching "Into the Storm" this weekend thought, that basing a movie character on Sean Casey was a REALLY bad idea. I like seeing this character much more.
I loved the scene where there's a tornado in the rodeo and like the guy doesn't listen to Kate to go jump in the pool and just take his truck and I'm like *Dumb ways to dieeee* and litteraly a second later his truck goes with the tornado, one of the funniest scene from the movie
If I remember Reed Timmers' (Dominator 3) review, he said that in theory, using the sodium polyacrylate, could act like a giant sponge. With a big enough of a sponge, it could disrupt the delicate balance that is required for a tornado. He appreciated the "microphysical approach" the movie took. I even think he suggested that this idea has inspired him to even try something like this in real life. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
I said this in the tier list video but, the original Twister will always (to me) be the best tornado movie. Twisters was a good time and a good stand-alone sequel. I liked how it's basically its own movie with its own original elements with little nods to the original.
I really wanted to watch twisters but I go to a boarding school in Indonesia, which means I could only have access to my devices (phones, laptops) once every few months, so I couldn't really watch it. Buuuuttttt, a miracle happened. On a saturday I saw the school board with a poster that said: "The Student Council presents: Watch Twisters Together at 18:30" and my heart sank. I've never been so excited before. Watching it felt like a breath of fresh air after a while of not watching any films or having any devices on me and ESPECIALLY that the film is the one that I've been wanting to watch.
Daisy was amazing in Fresh with Sebastian Stan! Fan since then. But then I saw her in Normal People on Hulu & fell in love with her and Paul Mescal! Saw Twisters this week and wasn't disappointed! Will watch anything with her tbh
I enjoyed this movie. I found it to be a little.... overbearing. Every storm had a tornado. They were standing like 30 feet from the funnel. The storms were spinning incredibly fast, like something you would see on Neptune. The red Dodge not flipping EVER was pretty sad. It was fun though! If you can push your disbelief away, it's fun.
As a tornado nerd AND a romance lover, all I have to say about that is: ❤ ~They were scar-mates~ ❤ My only gripe is in the very beginning when one of Kate's friends said that the doppler wasn't showing storms until the afternoon. Doppler isn't a prediction model. 🥺
I was in a tornado. It was a Fujita Scale 1 but it neatly rearranged an entire trailer park as I passed by. I was driving through horizontal rain and winds so powerful that the body of my minivan was jumping and the tires were skidding. There was zero visibility, just dark shapes occasionally whizzing by. Scared the crap out of me. But in Twisters, the residents of Oklahoma are quite unimpressed, despite having some massive tornados in their past. No one has shelters; not in their yards, or schools, or public shopping or entertainment areas. When I lived in Alabama (which has fewer twisters), every yard had one. Every public building had a place to shelter. In tornado season EVERYONE is prepared. Events are canceled if there's a hint of a threat. The National Weather Service would be giving minute by minute updates. They have a loudspeaker system to sound an alarm loud enough to be heard in every corner of the county. Does the movie show all this? No. It did in the original Twister movie. The opening scene of a room full of scientists monitoring scary weather developments creates a sense impending disaster. But in this updated film, no one is alarmed despite the fact that a gang of storm chasers has invaded the town. Even when there are tornados forming IN PLAIN SIGHT, no one thinks to escape open areas. There are all kinds of ridiculous scenes like a Little League game, a street fair, park activities, and even a rodeo blithely going on without a care in the world. Not until the sky is black and debris is seen blowing through do the citizens bother to get moving. The core idea of the movie is the struggle to alert the public in time to avert disaster. But the public in this flick are pretty much too stupid to take a hint on the SIMPLEST warning signs. Why bother with expensive new science interventions when no one wants to take care of the easiest and cheapest methods? The cast of actors in this story is too large. There is simply no way the writers can fill back story on that many people. The female lead has THREE love interests in total and none of them get any amplification. Not even Glen Powell. The remaining characters are split between rival storm chasers; one group is corporate sponsored (cue evil background music) and the other is a wild collection of misfits who for some reason cannot stop screaming. Nothing in the scene happens to trigger elation, fear, etc. They just scream for the sake of screaming. They could have pruned at least six actors from the story without affecting anything at all. That would have given them enough screen time to fill out the remaining members. It's so bad that actress Katie O'Brien, someone with a decent resume, literally whizzes by so fast that she is lost in the blur. Tunde Adebimpe plays a more mature roll as a man who actually understands the science of tornadoes. But he gets about 2 minutes of screen time which leaves his character a mystery. Would have been nice if a story line allowed him to be a guide or sensible mentor to the group. But he whizzes past and is lost. Some of the special effects were noteworthy. Outside of these, the camera work was cheap and uninteresting. There's a trick that television productions use to substitute for actual artistic appeal: fill the screen with the actor's heads and shoulders. If you turned off the sound and watched it, you'd see that most of it was just that. I'd expect that from a Hallmark channel flick but a major studio production could have done SOO much better. How about pulling back the cameras and get more size perspective for dividing the ominous twister from the ant size storm chasers. Why not have some real humor and rivalry between the corporate sponsors and zany internet influencers? So much untapped potential. I found myself fidgeting in my seat and wishing it would just be done. That's not how I expected to feel.
Hey! I was wondering if you could do a video of Michigan's most destructive tornadoes. I know Michigan doesn't get tornadoes that often, but I would LOVE to see a video about it. Thank you!
Saw it in 4DX and it was excellent! Lots of laughter in the theater after the opening scene, I think because everyone was so shocked how intense the special effects made it feel. I mean the wind blowing on us, rain (mist, you don't get wet), and seats shaking like crazy really add to it. Definitely recommend seeing it I 4DX if you can!
Thanks for the review. I’m not wasting my time watching Twisters. It just seems like a Twister reboot. Twister had a great renown cast. None of these actors are renown, even Glenn Powell. He’s considered up and coming.
There's more weather terminology used in Twisters, though, something they barely mention in Twister. They talk about CAPE, shear, etc. In a sense, to me, Twisters was a bit more scientific, than its predecessor. You should give it a try. I went in with very low expectations, and came out very impressed.
*renowned. Also all three of the mains are plenty famous if you know anything about film. Anthony Ramos is a Golden Globe nominee, Daisy Edgar-Jonas is a two time GG nominee, and Powell is Hollywood’s new leading man. Seems a silly reason not to watch an action movie but to each their own.
I'll say this on the movie. As a kid, I would rewatch the original Twister over and over and over again. Having seen the movie once in theaters and then finding out it's streaming on peacock, I can definitely say I'll be watching it, over and over and over again.
In regards to the "taming a tornado" they discussed, another issue is the amount of energy in the atmosphere. You can probably collapse a Tornado, but there's all that energy that needs to go somewhere.
I feel like Tyler’s crew was a throwback to Dusty’s personality that we all enjoyed! Loved the zero political and zero messages! Tyler carried a good weight of the movie but never over powers Kate and vice versa! I loved it!
I like how, as an Oklahoman himself, the director fought to have the film shot on location in Oklahoma instead of having Georgia as a stand-in. So glad he won out in the end.
You guys have a beautiful countryside that in my opinion can't be imitated. I love to see people proud of their state. 🙂
Yes exactly, I couldnt believe that they were about to film it in Atlanta. What a shame. The entire point is that its all Oklahoma
The first one was filmed in Oklahoma. And this movie wouldn't have even seem interesting if not for the original.
We had auditions here for extras

Honestly I liked the insurance plot line due to the the current underlying issue of real estate developers buying out land after disasters from people. It's predatory due to the position the victims are in. You could actually see this issue happen last year after the big fires in Hawaii.
That makes me so angry
The best movie reflect the current societal issues. Most female that are bad usually slip up there and try to make a film reflective of old times minus nostalgia
These kinds of people are jackasses. I actually felt bad for Javi when he realized his partners were rats
Yeah, I liked it better than the romantic plotline. They never really developed the real estate plot because they were wasting time on the love interest.
People don’t have to sell
Yupppp, one of, if not the most, violent and gruesome tornadoes of all time. It’s a shame it gets overlooked by the Moore’s, El Reno, and Joplin
Wow! He got to see one of the most destructive tornadoes in Texas history, and he got to star in a tornado movie
I got excited (and scared) when I heard/saw the tornado sirens. I thought, "Swegle will love this!"
I also loved it when Kate and her friends discussed hiding in the overpass and she said, "No! That's the WORST place to be during a tornado!" But they literally had no other choice.
I didn’t realize she said no to that
that part made me think SOMEONE working on it definitely watches swegle
I was thankful she said that too, finally a major tornado film to finally dispel the misinformed idea of hiding in underpasses
There was no side road ditch? They could have gone there.
I saw Reed Timmer's reaction to this and he basically said the same. He said that when there's no choice of escaping, he would've also hide in the overpass even though he knew it's very dangerous.
I loved how Kate's thing with dandelions was a shout-out to Bill in the first film. I like to imagine that she was his daughter or niece.
@@matthewmartin7639I remember reading that! I'm actually glad they switched it up, to break away from that cliche.

Although what was javi thinking driving in front of the tornado with Kate who clearly has PTSD from the tornado at the start of the movie.
Typical guy being emotionally unaware? That's what I boiled it down to
It kinda makes sense, Javi felt invincible due to the fact he now has a corporate sponsor and his potential is limitless. While he became distant from the tragedy and his friend. Meanwhile Kate was still traumatized from it and tried but failed to put on a brave face for her friend.
I mean, she did come with him. So, he probably thought she's okay. Plus, he didn't stay mad at her for backing out.

The most unbelievable thing about the film is that despite being in a accident where 3 other storm chasers died. Not a single other storm chaser recognised Kate after just 5 years. The WX community would have recognised her before she even stepped out the storm par truck.
They were first-time chasers and were very young amateurs at the time. It's not unbelievable that nobody would know exactly who she was.
@@verde7595even then storm chasers dying in action is rare, so I'm sure it would get some mainstream attention

I did like it
It definitely copied the original. It was beat for beat almost exactly the same plot wise and story structure wise.
@@plantenthusiast3052Agreed
Honestly the two movies definitely felt similar at some parts in my opinion, but I still really enjoyed watching Twisters despite that.
@@plantenthusiast3052 I literally turned to my girlfriend when the twins showed up and said "What was next after the sisters...the tornado at the drive-thru right? They're gonna go somewhere for recreation and its gonna hit them there, yeah?"

@@joselaba nice profile picture brother 🤘🤘🤘
What troubled me the most, with both movies really, was the way they made it look as though storm chasers compete against one another. They don't. They all work together to find the best vantage points and to keep each other out of danger. Was a little disappointed that they didn't pay homage to the TWISTEX team even though they made a point to have El Reno featured in the film.
There *is* a shot that directly references footage of the weather channel vehicle rolling, though.
I thought it was the tornado from 1999, not the one later on. That's what people said, with the death-under-an-overpass thing.

Twisters was exactly what it promised - a movie about chasing tornados. It gave a great nod to Twister while keeping it fresh for newer audiences

I got a tornado warning the day twisters came out-
Foreshadowing-
Mine was about a week or two before, and I live in New York. 😂
@@frozone-yeah same... the 18 tornado warnings we had JUST IN WESTERN NY. Also 2 confirmed tornadoes. the 1 tornado was about 1-2 miles away from me.
The marketing campaign for this movie is insane.
Yeah that’s the main problem I had too
Tornadoes can spin up very quickly sometimes.
Yup.
Loved Twisters! I particularly enjoyed the costume callbacks to the original movie, and yes, that one dude in the cap and sunglasses is a direct reference to Jonas. Has to be, all I saw was Jonas when he was on screen.
"he's in for the money, not the science"
Same!
@@DKrueger1994 😂😂😂😂 a perfect use of that quote
And lots more issues…
But still… I loved it.
Right? When they were sending them all into the movie theater, my first thought was "that's a terrible idea!" 😂
Reed Timmer has said that the taming a tornado concept from the movie is entirely possible
Lots of this movie was filmed around my hometown in OK. The main house from the movie is actually a house owned by family friends. The only reason I haven’t gone to see the movie in theatres…my college was hit by an EF2 tornado last year and I’m scared to relive it lmao
(SPOILERS!!!!)
I like how at the end when Kate is in the "EF5" Tyler's truck is getting slid and moved which shows that A tornado is still dangerous and still deadly and no matter how much spikes (or oggers) are dug in the ground, you can still get lofted into the tornado

To be fair, that truck would've been lifted into the air way before she even reached the edge of that EF5. lol.
I remember that whole scene being the most intense and crazy part of the 4dx viewing experience lol
Dude delete this spoiler.
It’s like a fan at a championship parade saying “Hey I’m looking at our win-loss record and I think this could be our year!”
Good on them for mentioning CAPE and picking a realistic value for a big outbreak. I just felt like they didn’t adequately research the context in which someone would say that.
OMG finally your upload! hehe
I loved the movie, it was so good, when it comes to the tornadoes i loved the ominousness of them, like a T-Rex appearance in Jurassic Park.

@@vapoet👍 I heard that the character of Tyler is in fact based on Reed Timmer, and I know all about the rockets on the Dominator 3.

It is in the same universe

I love the scene where Tyler walks through the pouring rain and his tee shirt doesn't get wet.
I've already seen it twice lol and it's incredible. The tornado look more legit than in any other movie. I love that they put El Reno at the end although I was bummed that Moore wasn't mentioned at all. Really hits home for me as someone who lives in Oklahoma

The fact that Mike Morgan made a cameo. That is everything! And of course, ths final scenes taking place in El Reno. I feel like the people who made this movie actually cared about the details.

Thank you! Was looking for this comment!
Again, you have to view the movie as it is, a movie. It's not going to be realistic. Some aspects of realism would have to be sacrificed in order to add tension or dramatic effect for the audience.
My great-grandmother always knew when bad weather/tornadoes were imminent, and apparently she was never wrong.
I liked it. I too like how they put El Reno in it.

Happy the movie came out well
I was expecting it to be like a reboot of twister. I was very surprised that it just had a few references from that movie and was a good standalone.
I watched yesterday and it was infact GOOD
The reporter isn't the new Dusty. He's the new Melissa; the fearful outsider who had no idea what they were actually in for.
It was a great, fun, enjoyable blockbuster. I'm a super tornado nerd and i enjoyed it start to finish. I'd give it a high end EF4 outta EF5.
😂 agreed
Tyler quickly grew on me despite the initial implication to make him appear to be the main antagonist of the film, his charm and soon to be apparent wit made him HOT
Been waiting for this video lol
1:08 As a younger tornado enthusiast, my mom basically had to drag me to the living room to watch Twister, and when I heard you say "look at these graphics" I just immediately remember the closing scene where the car explodes with the generic explosion effect.
Have a great day everyone! :)
Twisters was such an awesome film. The science talk made me so happy
ngl tyler is just reed timmer 💀
Well they based Tyler off of Reed sooooo
I thought the same thing lol
@@GlitchedPhoenix I was watching "Into the Storm" this weekend thought, that basing a movie character on Sean Casey was a REALLY bad idea. I like seeing this character much more.
Facially, Garand Thumb
Except way hotter and doesn’t scream DEBRIS DEBRIS DEBRIS ten million times like Reed 😆
Honestly I think it was better than the first, I loved all the references to the original
Now you have me wanting to start watching normal people…
8:30 is it just me or is this a reference to the El Reno tornado?
I enjoyed this movie. I found it to be a little.... overbearing. Every storm had a tornado. They were standing like 30 feet from the funnel. The storms were spinning incredibly fast, like something you would see on Neptune. The red Dodge not flipping EVER was pretty sad. It was fun though! If you can push your disbelief away, it's fun.
As a tornado nerd AND a romance lover, all I have to say about that is: ❤ ~They were scar-mates~ ❤
My only gripe is in the very beginning when one of Kate's friends said that the doppler wasn't showing storms until the afternoon. Doppler isn't a prediction model. 🥺
Yay a good review!! (I was considering watching this movie)
Why was there literally no warning well before the tornado during the bull-riding scene? Like don't they all have smart phones to get NWS alerts?
Oh man I wish I could go see it
Same here
@@nursestoyland I feel angered
I wish you could too! Twister will always be better but this one is also really good! Maybe when it comes to streaming you can watch it.
Okay I'm back I watched it
@@godzilla44556 how was it? No spoilers tho pls 🤑🤑🤑
I'd rather walk on broken glass, then soil Bill Paxton's good name
Hey! I was wondering if you could do a video of Michigan's most destructive tornadoes. I know Michigan doesn't get tornadoes that often, but I would LOVE to see a video about it. Thank you!
omg here we go
Saw it in 4DX and it was excellent!
Tbh it was accurate and good
The movie TWISTERS was awesome! I love movies & weather. It was the perfect combination.
I loved it!
