Who knows how many more film roles they might gift us with before they shuffle off this mortal coil. Both are stellar humans in my book. I cannot imagine life without them.
I look at this movie as a love letter to all the people that grew up with the 20th Century Fox universe and it serves as a perfect send off to that era
That is a deep cut and glad you pointed it out...but it just falls flat. Like why? It makes sense in X2 because that's music of the same era in which X2 was created. In D&W it just comes off as a reference just for reference sake.
I've never heard of a Cajun accent before so it was a bit shocking to me when Channing opened his mouth. It took me about 5 of his lines for me to get used to his voice and I know that the script was making fun of it but still, Channing seems to be having a blast
@@mastersword648 His dialect was perfect. Louisiana accents are among the most impenetrable in the US. Look up Yat. James Carville of the Democratic Party is an example of a comprehensible Louisianan accent. Add the Creole French half the time, and hardly anybody can understand him. It was a good parody of Gambit.
It was one of the few times I felt like one of the actors didn't quite have their heart in the performance. For the most part, I was very impressed with how well they all recaptured their roles.
@@waywardmind It’s crazy how opinions differ. Thought it was way too on the nose & begging..literally signed when he said that & my theater which had a big pop for blade was quite for that line
I think the brilliance of the film is how it takes unfulfilled ideas and shows us how it both works and doesn’t work. Channing Tatum as Gambit walked in a complete comic accurate outfit that didn’t seem to fit him all that well. And it makes sense. From his look, dialogue and even how he fights, Tatum gives 110% and the joke is that he’s sort of a 50/50 Gambit. On Wolverine’s cowl, it makes sense from a character standpoint. He notes that he was always hesitant to put on the suit. After the death of the X-Men, he never takes it off but never really dons his role as the Wolverine until the third act. There’s even the joke that on his big sacrifice, his shirt explodes exposing rolling muscles yet somehow the mask stays on. I think the greatest strengths of the film are the cameos, the lead’s performance and the movie’s usage of older Fox Marvel properties. The greatest weakness is that the film dates itself extremely and was made with this particular frame of time of superhero movies in mind. It makes sense that they marketed the film so much and put behind it so much cross promotion. They want audiences in theaters watching it while it has its maximum effect and full bite.
I don't mind that this movie is time sensitive. Deadpool isn't an epic hero's journey type character. He is there to be 100% in the moment, call out the bullshit directly to camera, and just have ripping cool fight scenes. Deadpool is not Mr. Right, he is Mr. right NOW!
Huh, that’s a really interesting perspective on the Gambit suit. I figured it was just another case of weird CGI in this movie, but it’d be cool if the bad fit was intentional! It certainly enhances the movie’s commentary on the casting.
@@warioskapelli3100 Not much in the movie was intentional…If you’ve ever made art before you’ll know the love/hate of the people that’ll add to it, propping it up in pure hyperbole for better or worse

@@mopnem I see if a character is cool, I like it. He looked pretty darn cool in the movie for a movie that's not about him, so good enough for me to like him more.
I think the biggest thing Cassandra Nova did to service the plot beyond being an antagonist was to progress this version of Wolverine to forgive and become a better version of himself that Charles saw in him and believed he could be. To be the hero not only he could be, but that Deadpool was aspiring to be as well.

Channing Tatum is the king of unexpected and unexpectedly hilarious cameos. Needs to do more comedies. The ‘flame on’ scene got a big pop. Cavill and Blade round out the big 3, besides Deadpool and wolverine of course.
My theater clapped when Chris Evan’s showed up, and we assumed he was Captain America, so when he said “Flame On” my friends and I lost it laughing for like a minute. Oh my, that was the funniest part of the movie for me.
yeah the storyline of wade and vanessa was not fleshed out well at all. I dont understand why wade was in a funk in the first place. He was reunited with everyone and had a happy ending from the last movie, what made him all sad? That whole story line made no sense to me.
What made Vanessa break up with him?! How do you go from loving a person unconditionally and wanting to have their child... to breaking up with them because of some weird vague idea of not believing in anything more than himself, or whatever the hell they said. The dude has literally done nothing but sacrifice himself for the greater good and to help victimized people. What is she talking about? It's like she's a totally different person. And that sucks because even women who have acted in the MCU have criticized them for giving so many women the same personality. Vanessa had a legitimately fun and unique personality. And now that's gone.
@@marioargiropoulos4747Oh woaw I hadn't realized that but you're so right. They turned her into the average superhero girlfriend when her personality was spicy, unique and refreshing
My crowd was very tame too. I was expecting cheers and applause, but it was very mellow. I actually liked X-23, and felt it brought her back in a way her character can continue as that character in the MCU.
I don't feel like people are talking about the different versions of Wolverine enough. The Hulk vs classic brown suit Wolverine scene was so good. I do feel like the movie slowed down going into the last act and you're right - the Cassandra villain was too much of a new character I think and took time away from grounding the story more. Also, would have loved more Fox cameos because I thought they pulled them off pretty well. Lastly, I think just one quick snapshot of live action blue and gold x-men during a flashback scene about Wolverine's world would have been sooo satisfying. Imagine seeing the original x-men cast in blue and gold.
So glad you brought up the "all tell, no show" point on both Deadpool and Wolverine. I felt the emotional background of each character wasn't clearly explored and kind of lowered the stakes for me. Overall, loved the film.
I actually choked up in the finale of Deadpool 2, when Wade sacrificed himself. This movie was awesome and hilarious, but didn’t get me in the feels in the same way.
Agreed. I couldn't care less about Nova and it felt like a new addition to the long list of MCU villains with little charisma, uninspired solo scenes and a name I will soon forget. Gimme more time with Wolverine and Deadpool! I wasn't emotionally invested in their sacrifice scene and it's a real shame.
During the press tour, Ryan stated that during those first talks with Disney/Feige that they only wanted to bring Ryan/Deadpool into the MCU, all the other supporting characters/actors would be left out. To then turn that around into the plot of the movie is just *chef's kiss
Oh Wolverine Cowl did things for me. It was just PERFECT for live action. When he pulls it over his face during the slow mo? Damn, bro.. all the feels at once :')
My crowd popped for Jon Favreau, all the different styles of Wolverine, Chris Evans, then Chris Evans again at the Johnny Storm reveal, and the Garner/Snipes/Tatum trio
Loved the character arc of Wolverine. They didn't have to kill him a 2nd time, he's maybe living with X23 now, very good inspirational stuff for men down on life
@@Renoisticit allows him a chance to show these new people in his life that he does care and wants to be around them, something he was too embarrassed to admit to the X-Men from his universe
@@Renoistic He showed emotion when he saw his old man's self's death. It was a fulfillment he didn't get and was agonized by. However he mostly did it because Deadpool's desire to save his own family echoed what Wolverine couldn't do.
This movie is an event. You can't miss it! I haven't been so excited about a movie since No Way Home. Even from the trailers I was sure what awaited me in the cinema and all expectations were met! I also liked how they continued the storyline from Logan with Laura and Logan, it was just nice to see Dafne Keen and Hugh Jackman reunited after saying goodbye (even if it wasn't the same version, but it was just really sweet) Yes, there were some characters missing that were connected with Wade and Logan, but it was epic, fun and beautiful!
I really appreciate your care in preventing any spoilers. Your thumbnails are devoid of spoilery images, and your time up front was generous. Thank you!
6:15 - I'm on the opposite side here from Dan. I think LOGAN was a stellar send-off for the titular character, I think it was intended as the start of Laura's story. I think, had things gone differently with the Fox films, especially NEW MUTANTS, we would have seen more of X-23. LOGAN wasn't (in my view) ever meant to be an ending for her.
Dan I think you might have better things to do, but if you can check that Nsync video. The credits scene to bye bye bye with Deadpool hitting the choreo so hard and also knocking down the tva agents with every beat was soo perfect I had tears from laughing so hard.
Saw it last night and my crowd was electric. Cheered at every cameo, some people lost their minds at the deep cut comic references, and I was so glad that they didn't kill the legacy characters (except for Torch haha) and that they got to join in on the fight (unlike the Illuminati). As much as I really like the film I couldn't give it a 10/10 but wasn't exactly sure why. But thank you for explaining what I felt was missing. Having Wade and Vanessa break up off screen was a bit jarring after rewatching Deadpool 1 & 2. I would've liked to see what happened in "Worst" Wolverine's universe. Cassandra, though well acted, I felt wasn't exactly needed. Though I think this is a step up from the first 2 Deadpool movies, the scattered MCU storytelling is still apparent. Also thank you for saying "gubernatorial" because I thought Wade just made it up.
Disagree when it comes to not liking wolverines cowl, was so cool to see him finally wear it and tear through the deadpool corps. That scene alone was worth my ticket price.
That didn't happen in my showing! He dramatically pulled the cowl down for the first time in TVA area, before the Time Ripper had to be short circuited. I wonder if there's multiple edits.
Cap would had been great, and so would Thor. Though in this story, the Void was the scrapyard that Disney discard their used Fox characters, so it wouldn’t make sense to see actual MCU characters there.
@@lanzer22it’s the best interpretation of the sacred timeline, both meta and in lore. Meta being that we are Disney and we succeeded in buying out everyone and the lore that Kang ended up picking favorites to ensure his rise to power. I kind of love when meta blends with lore, kind of like the many reasons why earth or New York is somehow important to the entire cosmos when in reality is just what the writers are familiar with.
@@TheCandyGamingChannel I love how Mets the whole story is. It’s basically Disney asking Deadpool to move to the MCU and leave everyone behind, and Deadpool dragging Logan along and saving X23 in the process.
I disagree that X-23 being in this was a mistake. To me, the fact that she's there in the closing scene seems like an indication that they're bringing her permanently into the MCU.
Why weren't people thrilled to see Blade? Dan.... We're old. How many people in your crowd were born when Blade came out? My friends and the 55 year old woman sitting next to me cheered. Otherwise my theater was pretty tame when he came out too.
I think sentinels were involved in wolverines origin, hence how he know how to activate the leg that was chilling at Cassandra Novas base, so it wasn’t just humans that killed the xmen it was the humans using sentinels
I think Logan is supposed to mirror Mystique in Days of Future Past. Basically, his actions are what set the humans up to realize how big a threat mutants are. So, they focused their energy on defeating mutants.
Deadpool's personal story was the weakest part of the film to me, especially in contrast to the emotional beats for Wolverine's (although even that could have used more time).
I don’t watch movies at the cinema anymore (I can just watch them on Disney+, HBO Max, etc) but as soon as I saw the trailer I thought: now THIS is a movie I want to watch at the cinema! And I was right! WHAT A MOVIE! BEST MCU movie in a long while!

The in-jokes were incredible! - Deadpool pointing out, in which episode of "Loki" Alioth first appeared in. - Elektra talking about the death of Daredevil and going "It's fine." - obviously meaning Ben Affleck, whom she later married and divorced.😅 - Matthew McConaughey as Cowboypool - I mean, obviously. - The deliberately terrible costume they gave Channing Tatum to fit the Fox era that never was 😅😅 - Ryan Reynolds' wife and kids playing Deadpool variants. - "There's only one Blade." and the shot of Deadpool looking right at the camera 😂 God, that was so much fun!
The store they crack into was a shoe store called "Liefeld Only Feet" (or some to that effect). A commentary on Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld and his notorious inability to draw feet going so far out of his way to avoid doing so
To be honest, I was grateful for what we got since I thought they were gonna do a joke where they all die immedianlty so it felt nice they actually got some fight in them.
While your point still stands about seeing more to better understand ... Him not being there when the humans came was only HALF the problem. While subtle, it's crystal clear, the other half was he went on a revenge rampage. He went and killed humans, and not just those responsible. He talks about how he failed Charles twice. He became the monster everyone said mutants were. That's the true "shame" he feels and why he's a failure in that universe
I'm not an expert on comics, but what I thought was gonna happen was be revealed like Old Man Logan, Wolverine was mind controlled to kill the X-Men but this does make it more his choices and actions were his own
The whole film felt like something from the 'Scary Movie's franchise to me, silly gags for the sake of silly gags and didn't hold together as a film the way the first Deadpool did. I think it was better with someone like Millar to reign Reynolds in a bit.
@@HowlGoughPerfectly said. They spent too long on some jokes. It felt like Reynolds directed and wrote the movie. This movie will not stand the test of time. 20 years from now, a new generation of kids will not appreciate all the Fox & pop culture references. That being said, it was an absolute blast of a movie! I loved it
My main gripe with the storyline is that Deadpool was in the same universe as Logan (which didn’t feel totally right) AND Logan was in the future so didn’t really make sense for Paradox to recruit Deadpool when he did - unless there was some timy-wimy reason which they didn’t explain
As I stated, I saw this last night. It was a sold out show. The crowd wasn’t too loud but there was some applauding and cheers at some parts (including from me). Sorry to hear about your audience Dan. Loved this review. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s Charts episode to see what kind of weekend it had.
As far as cameos and references go I loved some of the more subtle, blink and you'll miss it bits. I loved how one of the songs that played in the car fight was, "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman. I also loved Deadpool's threat that if Nova didn't back off that Logan would sing Music Man without warming up first as a nod to Hugh Jackman's musical talents. There was a subtle reference to the fact that Ryan Reynolds and Wesley Snipes did not get along with each other in Blade: Trinity. There were a couple of "Welcome to Wrexham," cameos. Deadpool starts quoting Loki when he jumps into the Hulk vs Wolverine universe They poked fun at Multiverse movies I loved how Blake Lively was Lady Deadpool and tying to this there was the 207 bones joke when watch Gossip Girl "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" got a decent chuckle at my screening. The Great British Bakeoff helped Deadpool through some hard times. GET MY COUNTRY'S NAME OUT OF YOUR F-ING MOUTH! was a great meta joke There were quite a few Mad Max and Furiosa references "Paul Rudd finally aged" Deadpool takes a shot at the LA Rams when insulting Wolverine's outfit Laura uses her sunglasses from Logan Ice Skating Uphill was said by Blade referencing that stupid line in his movies "He's like Batman if he could move his neck." Deadpool gives Logan the Vulcan salute from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Finally, we get to "the Avengers discovered Shawarma."
I hate what they did to the Vanessa character. The love between she and Wade has always been the heart of his story. It's the one thing that was never made into a joke. She went from wanting to have his child to breaking up with him because he "didnt put anything above himself"? The guy literally sacrificed himself at the end of the last film for a troubled teenager just to show him that he is loved. Vanessa went from being a wild, fun, playful, good hearted and loving person to the generic Marvel woman. What was up with her taking a jab at him when she said "Well he hasn't gotten me shot yet" when she told him she was dating someone? Vanessa was almost killed in the first film, then saw what Wade looks like, and still loved him unconditionally. She even wanted to have his child in the last film. But now he... doesn't care about anything above himself? This is the guy who wouldnt even accept money from a girl in part one when he took care of her stalker. This isn't the same person from the first two films. And it's very frustrating because she was a genuinely lovable character. Btw, notice they mentioned her promotion at work to let us all know she is no longer a stripper. Because a good hearted and likable female character could never be a stripper to Disney, I guess.
I hope I'm wrong, but the way it just ended with Deadpool and one of the Jackman variants living together in Earth-10005 felt a lot like they were retiring the characters. Deadpool jumping back into Earth-616 in the future feels like it would be undoing his arc in this movie-- basically choosing his original crew over the MCU. Also, since "Logan" took place in the future, isn't there still a Wolverine walking around in the universe where Wade and Logan live together? Do they just have to make sure they never run into each other?
@@SplatterInker That's an interesting point that I didn't consider. Technically, there's even the possibility of Deadpool-616 being played by somebody else. Mind you, I can't think of anybody else who *could* top Ryan Reynolds, but there's a chance he might want to retire. He's not as old as Hugh, but he ain't getting any younger, and he might feel like he's done everything he can with the character (I'd be *surprised* if he felt that way, since he fought for playing Deadpool for so long, but you never know).
Crowd went wild when Blade showed up.. also the movie got a standing ovation at the end.. never seen that in a theater before.. The guilt Wolverine had is real.. my dad was an alcoholic.. he let at the time my 16 year old sister drive herself to cheerleading practice when he was drunk.. she got into a serious car accident and was almost killed… was it my dad’s fault no cause an 18 wheeler pulled out in front of her… did my dad blame himself yes…he had been drinking and he thought it wouldn’t not have happened if he drive her.. which was not true.. but my father quit drinking the next day and never had another drop.. also my father died last year cause of liver failure.. but he blamed himself for years and years..
One of the reasons for the soft Blade reaction may have been that a lot of spoilers for this movie got out pretty early. I had all but one cameo spoiled in one way or another in the days before seeing it, despite having muted some accounts already and limiting exposure to some other channels as well.
Oh man my crowd was great, they weren’t too loud but they were all super excited and I loved it. The blade reaction, the Johnny storm reaction, so so fun
I thought the cowl was great. The only thing I didnt like about Wolverine's suit was that he didn't retain the shoulder pads with the sleeveless look. Without them, the suit looked out of proportion with the cowl.
I loved this movie because it was driven by its characters more than its story. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman absolutely killed it for me and Dan's right, the exposition was a little clunky at times, BUT I bought it because those two emote so well and they sell their pain to me. Ryan Reynolds made that initial scene with Happy Hogan work for me because you could tell it in his voice and see it in his face and actions just how much Deadpool wanted to be more than, "The Merc with the Mouth." I also liked how when Happy was talking about the Avengers in that scene we get the shots of Tony's arc reactor and Steve's shield. Just those shots impressed upon me the weight of their legacy and I loved how Happy legitimately gave Wade a good job interview. Even though we never get to see why this Wolverine is, "the worst," I also still bought in because Hugh Jackman emotes so well. He was basically (to use an anime term) being a tsundere about how much being an X-Man meant to him and he carried the weight of failure on him as well as he did in Logan. It was understated but I love how Logan seeing Deadpool care so much about his family, his entire world, is ultimately the thing that brings him around. Deadpool is owning up to and fighting with all he has to save the people he cares about, something this Logan wishes he had the strength to do in his own timeline.
Agreed! I'm prejudiced toward Jon Favreau though, I adore his Marvel characters (he was Foggy Nelson in Fox's Daredevil) and I loved him being a gatekeeper but also encouraging Deadpool.
I’ve been trying to figure out why I felt a lot less heart in this than the other Deadpool films and I think it’s those points u brought about the lack of fleshing out those DP and Logan stories in this film. But yes cameos were really fun and made for a nice love letter to the FOX era. Would love to see you review the small film Fresh Kills from Jennifer Esposito. Def deserves some more love and eyes on it😊
You missed two major points. 1. Why he was the worst logan is he went into a bloodlust and killed everyone around him. Heroes and not heroes. He explained this to x-23 2. X-23 is now in the 616 universe. You might think her cameo made logan mean a bit less. But now she can be mentored in becoming wolverine in the MCU universe. And they wont have to cast someone to be Logan.
Thank you Dan! I appreciate your ability to acknowledge the movie's highs (action, humor, cameos) while also acknowledging its lows (weak story, lack of impact on the MCU), but still enjoying it for the achievement and entertainment it is. It's why I love your reviews in every universe ;)
Only surprises were Cavill and Blade for me. Fully expected Evans, Garner and Tatum. Was honestly annoyed Daredevil and Punisher didn't show up. Even more dissapointed that the original three X-Men didn't show up in the third act. Overall the movie was fun, but dissapointing. Seems like these multiverse movies just can't afford the actors they need to fulfill the promise of these multivese movies. No Way Home is still the gold standard since that movie not only had EVERYONE return, but had it mean something to the plot and the protagonists arcs. Lastly as someone who dreamed of the Deadpool Corps showing up one day (with Blake Lively as Lady DP), I was so fucking dissapointed with how little they're in the movie. Also, the lack of Baraka-Pool was kinda lame.

Bye Bye Bye over the credits was a call back to X2 when Wolverine turns on the stereo in Scott’s car and Bye Bye Bye starts playing.
That's a perfect tie-in along with them saying bye to the Fox universe

The jokes were great and Channing hammed it up a tad, but for the most part, that's what Creole's actually sound like lol

I agree that this movie will unfortunately age fast - which is a shame because it means it won't be as rewatchable in the future
This is an excellent summary, honestly. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I think the biggest thing Cassandra Nova did to service the plot beyond being an antagonist was to progress this version of Wolverine to forgive and become a better version of himself that Charles saw in him and believed he could be. To be the hero not only he could be, but that Deadpool was aspiring to be as well.
I think Emma Corrin was the wrong casting for Cassandra. Her face and eyes looked too kind to be a villain who wants to kill trillions of people.

yeah the storyline of wade and vanessa was not fleshed out well at all.

Frankly, I thought the cowl looked better than I expected. Trust me, I'm not a big X-Men or Wolverine fan, but I thought it looked pretty good.
Totally agree. They could have cut out the Nova character entirely and gave a little more depth to Wade and Logan's personal failings.

Him finding purpose in a clone of himself pulled from another universe, that he has zero emotional attachment or stake in, felt very hollow to me.

I can tell you Dan, in my theatres, we got a reaction for every cameo, Blade being the LOUDEST reaction.

He started the MCU, frankly.
Evans as Johnny Storm was awesome! And i loved ALL of the cameos.
Johnny Storm was a good gag, But the chemistry between DP, Wolverine, and Cap would have been off the charts. Best team up movie since The Avengers.
I really, really loved Cassandra Nova. She feels pretty much improved from her comics version in so many ways.
I'm not sure how people couldn't know that when "humans killed all the mutants" they were doing it with Sentinels.
Nah I love Hugh Jackman wearing Wolverine’s cowl
I don’t watch movies at the cinema anymore (I can just watch them on Disney+, HBO Max, etc) but as soon as I saw the trailer I thought: now THIS is a movie I want to watch at the cinema! And I was right! WHAT A MOVIE! BEST MCU movie in a long while!

- Elektra talking about the death of Daredevil and going "It's fine." - obviously meaning Ben Affleck, whom she later married and divorced.😅
- Matthew McConaughey as Cowboypool - I mean, obviously.

I think he can still go to Earth-616 but just to help out, not to actually live there long-term.
Also we haven't met 616's Deadpool yet. Could be very Ryan like.

Our crowd (matinee on a Friday) was a little quiet but it did not stop me from screaming during the Elektra, Blade, and Gambit cameos 😂😂
Yeah, I didn't hear anybody in the crowd cuz I was screaming loudest. 😁
Def deserves some more love and eyes on it😊
Don’t you dare say a bad thing about Wolverine’s mask.
You missed two major points.
1. Why he was the worst logan is he went into a bloodlust and killed everyone around him. Heroes and not heroes. He explained this to x-23
2. X-23 is now in the 616 universe. You might think her cameo made logan mean a bit less. But now she can be mentored in becoming wolverine in the MCU universe. And they wont have to cast someone to be Logan.
Blade had the biggest reaction in my screening on Thursday evening
I completely agree with your thoughts. Spot on. Thanks for always being honest.
Also I think the cowel would have looked better without the eyes and had Hugh’s actual eyes
Blade: “The Day Walker” was the Best and My Favorite Surprised of the Movie
To add onto Dan’s Foxvengers fight criticism, why would they choose a frontal assault?! They all operate in stealth. Elektra is a frickin’ ninja!!!
My crowd erupted when blade showed up.
This was my reward for paying attention to comic book movies for the last 30 years 😂🎉 I loved it!!! Will take my wife to see it soon!!!
No Dan. Im sry. But wolverines cowl made him look EPIC
