    Great video for a first timer! I changed my brakes yesterday on an 07 Civic and here are some things the video does not cover:
    1. Only the bottom nut on the caliper needs to come off as it can fold up. Make sure you fully loose the caliper before trying to remove the nut!
    2. I needed to use a C-clamp to push the piston in so I could put the caliper back over the new brake pads. Also, it's a good idea to apply some high-temp grease to the dust cover around the piston and to make sure it does not stick out when pushing the piston in.

    Awesome tutorial... I especially like that you stated what size socket was needed (which was the main reason I watched this video)... a friend of mine, who lives an hour away, asked me to do his brakes but the weathers nice so I wanted to ride my motorcycle but I couldn't do that if I needed to bring my tool chest, now I can just throw a flathead screwdriver, 12mm socket, and ratchet in my backpack (along with the channel locks, and other tools for the rear brakes) in a backpack and ride... YOU MADE MY WEEKEND MORE FUN :D Though I already understood the principles of it all, I thought it was awesome you explained not just how, but why as well

    You can do one bolt and pivot caliper out of the way.
    Also be sure to check fluid reservoir to make sure fluid does not spill out as you push caliper piston in to allow new pads to fit.
    If someone topped it off as they wore, there easily could be too much fluid for new pads

    Thank you very much for the video. I didn't have to take the top bolt off. The top bolt acted as a hinge. I just swung the caliper up out of the way and changed the brakes.

    good detail on your video the dealer wanted to charge me $279 to do the brakes...I paid $15 ea to turn the rotors at a local shop, $35 for the brake pads I did it for less than $90. On the piston if you open the brake fluid container and use some large pliers, you can squeeze the piston easily and no air will go into the lines. thanks for the video.

    This an great instructional video. Probably the best i've seen on this car. My only question is if you are pushing the piston in, will you need to bleed the brakes. I saw other videos where they bleed the brakes when changing the pads. Is this necessary?? Thanks,

    The only thing I would have added would be show the folks how to retract the piston for brake pads that have more than normal wear. I'm getting ready to do the brakes on my daughters car and was showing her what we are going to do. Great video thanks!

    Thank you million times! My front brakes are basically done and they started to make this super annoying metal on metal sound and because I'm waiting for a big brake kit and i need to use the car occasionally I just took the inside brake pad and banded the "squealer" metal piece as well as cleaned the pads and rotors, I know that this will not help the brakes but its good workaround if just need to do few extra km and drive to the service, the pads still have 1-2mm and I just need to wait two weeks for all the big brake parts and then drive the car to the service, I hope it will last since it was squealing only on the front right side, left one is still ok and rear brakes are pretty much fine.
    Fortunately i have multiple cars so i don't have to drive this one all the time cos i can really feel on the brake pedal that not much is going on when i press it, but at-least i got rid of that super annoying and embarrassing squealing sound,

    I followed your tips and this was a smooth brake job except I snapped the last bolt on the caliper bracket. Thank gosh the auto parts had the item in stock. But for my first time doing my own brakes. Pretty easy. But yet I can install turbo systems in Nissans. Lol go figure. Great teacher you are.

    Yes the squealing went away. As the break pads wear away the two thin metal pieces make that squealing noise indicating break pad replacement.

    I followed your instruction and replaced my car's front brake pads, but during the replacement I had difficulties to put back caliber after placing new brake pads. So, I realized I need to push piston all the way back by releasing brake fluid. While I was doing that I lost little bit of brake fluid. Everything when well, but I suspect there is air left in the piston, because brake works well when brake reaches to lowest position

    I was always told never allow the brake caliper to dangle from the hose to prevent damaging the brake hose. Just a tip I to share with everyone.

    very helpful vid you have there. i'm just wondering if it's required to have both front wheels jacked-up/lifted at the same time? i've heard that jacking-up/lifting each wheel one at a time would damage the shocks

    Some early ABS systems didn't like back flow on the brake fluid but most newer cars are ok with it. Yes the caliper needs to be opened up enough to fit the new pad thickness.

    Just found this gem...great video. I see some people use caliper grease on the brake pad tabs and some don't. I see you didn't. Is there a rule of thumb to follow when to apply caliper grease? Thanks

    Its good that you use a torque wrench for the nuts at the end the guys i go to always end up stripping a stud or two because they use the huge impact to torque them down

    Allowing the caliper to hang by the pressure hose is a bad practice. It should be supported while it is off the rotor to remove any tension on the hose.

    That small impact is pretty harmless, and if you're careful, it threads on quite easily. Honda lug nuts have a slight recess before the threads start so it's pretty hard to cross thread them. Some other lug nuts and bolts I actually start by hand before using the s cordless impact.

    Hi, i have a question in this video you said that the wear indicator will be installed upward but in another video of you talking about rear wheels you said tha the wear indicator of the inner pad will be installed downward...what is te correct position, up or down independent of the rear or front wheels, thank for your video

    My Si book says 80ft lbs on the lug nuts,.
    Solid video man,...
    Tip:
    If you pads are very worn, and someone has been topping off fluid as it gets lower wit pad wear,
    Then it's a good idea to look at fluid level as you push piston in to fit "fatter" new pads in.
    Just suck out extra as it rises with a old turky baster or syringe or whatever you may have.
    Otherwise it may overflow brake resivour and spill into engine bay, it eats paint.
    So watch it as you push pistons in.

    So, question I have is do you think I should pull wheels and release bolt located in the hydrolic fluid line push the brake pedal until I see fluid comes out from the line.

    You didn't show that the Caliper Guide Pins should be removed cleaned, inspected (replaced if required) and if brake grease came with the pads should be applied to them before reinstalling. If grease doesn't come with the pads (mine didn't), pick some up at the parts store when you get the pads, it's like 50 cents. If both pins don't slide freely and one binds the pads may wear unevenly and require replacement prematurely. The boots should also be inspected and replaced if damaged.

    Nice explanation of things, but you made one error and that is leaving the caliber hang by the brake line, causing potential damage to the line.

    Well done! Is there any need to remove the lid from the reservoir before compressing? Are you concerned that you may back overfill the brake fluid reservoir when compressing the pistons?

      Yes take the cap off and put some rag around it in case it overflows. This is because of people that “top up” the brake fluid.

    Question: Does the piston in the caliper need to be pushed back. I know that in some cars the piston needs to be pushed back in order to fit the new brake pads since they are thicker than the old ones? Also is it possible to damage the master cylinder by pushing back on the piston? Thanks.

      I don't much see a point in turning rotors they're gonna turn when you drive.

      Luis M Im no expert, but this is what I understand about turning rotors. Honda rotors are so cheap, its not worth the time and cost to turn them, just buy a new set. also if you turn the rotors, they will be thinner, which will make them more prone to warping because of the heat. if they warp, your brake pedal will pulse like crazy when u brake...its annoying

      No you dont ned to clamp the piston, as long as the brakepedal is released the brakefluid can move freely in any direction, in this case back to the brake fluid reservoar.
      It is certainly a good idea to open the bleed valve when you push in the piston and refill with new brakefluid.
      Also use some thick grease/copperpaste on the tabs of the brakepads where the pads are gliding on metal.

      Jonathan Soto He pushed the piston back in at 2:55. Pushing it in more with a C-clamp after disassembly will help when reassembling. Some advise opening bleeder valve when pushing piston back in to prevent the dirty fluid in the caliper from re-entering the system.
