Hey Guys! Andrew Wolf here ! Welcome me back to TacticalBassin!!!! (Matt voice) Been a month works been crazy but that just means I’ve got plenty of content to catch up on rather than watching the last 4 years of buyers guides for the 11th time 😂
A natural blue zoom swamp crawler back in the 90s was a deadly bait. We'd catch a 100 bass in 4 hours on points in the hot summer. Now you're lucky to catch 1 or 2 on the same lakes.
A 4" Lizard was finesse fishing all day in the early 2000s. I remember landing 30-40 fish a day no problem. Now everyone and their dog throws a ned something. I hate the ned it killed the finesse game everywhere.
The Ned has probably become the go-to for largies and smallies outside of the dropshot when it gets tough up here in N. Wisconsin. Depending on the plastic you use and the weight, there’s just so many presentation options… Its popularity has brought back some old favorites that don’t get the play they used to ~
Thanks Matt! It's amazing how seamlessly you roll from one technique to the other, while speaking to anglers in every area of the country along the way. I'm in Florida, so some of what you say does not apply, but you and Tim do a great job of making sure that everyone in your audience feels a part of things. I really appreciate you sharing your expertise with us; I cannot imagine how much time you put into building such a prodigious knowledge base. Keep up the great work; 500,000 subscribers is fast approaching. Thanks!

Man... THANK YOU! Fly fisher currently in the process of getting back into fishing some "gear" in these no -peak fly months in western PA and this video couldn't have come at a better time!
I went out this morning from about 5:30-noon. Threw all kinds of baits all morning with no bites. Switched to a shaky head with a Zoom magnum shaky head worm in junebug and caught 3 in less than an hour… Can confirm, it’s the JUICE. 👊🏼
I have learned more in the past 6 months from you guys then I have in 10 years of fishing. Thank you so much for showing us all these baits and ways to fish them. It really helps!!!
Excellent video per usual, you definitely have a way with words when it comes to explaining techniques in depth. Happy to be along for the ride! Learn something new every Monday Wednesday an Friday 🤘🤘 keep on keeping on!!
I’ve gained so much from this channel, it’s made me a better fisherman. One of the best take aways was the red treble hook. I love to crank. And that single change has gotten me many more bites. Speed cranking is another tip that has changed my fishing.
hey Matt, so funny you mention the swamp crawler. I used to use that one and the magnum for yrs. Not sure why i stopped other than trying newer baits. lol. I need to go back to it again. thanks!!
You always do a good job on your channel, but that was one of your better overviews of the peak summer period 👍🏻 Up here in Northern Wisconsin, our waters are either full of grass or they’re crystal clear and 50-80ft deep… so the tips on clarity can really be helpful. The fish are so active right now up here that they can be caught from the bank out into the middle of the lake and on any bait in your boat 😎
Thanks Matt, very well done video. Clear, concise and to the point. Narrowing down those 3 types of cover will really streamline the process. Just read an article about you on Bullards (I’m in Chico) from 2015. Very impressive! I’ve never fished it but always wanted to.
I can never get the confidence in a shaky head. The worm to hook size just makes me feel like I’m missing so many fish that don’t swallow the whole worm. I’m way up in Connecticut too, crank baits are my favorite way to catch them but I’m extremely limited on where I could fish it, since it’s all grass. But Love the content !
Love summer fishing. Set the hook on a 15 frog fish yesterday, 3 of them over 4lbs. Went out to deep crank in 15ft and caught a whole school. Then went back to the bank to punch duckweed and swim a jig along pads. Fish were eating everything.
I bought some t macs and used them at night for the first time on Lake Wylie here in SC and the spots were amazing it! I am from the Bay Area but now live in SC so kinda fond of TB !!! Thanks
Y’all have perfect timing! I just got off work and I’m planning a trip to the Bass Pro Pyramid in Memphis Saturday. Going to pick up my first MBR and I’m super excited
Thanks for remembering us north east guys 👍, im actually finger lakes. my favorite for this summer is the senko weightless Texas rigged backwards, I think it has a better fall when rigged backwards then forward, moves through cover way better and casts just good enough to throw it on a bait caster with upgraded bearings in high vis water, its perfect for casting around down trees, accurate casts around weed bed corners and versatile enough for pretty much anywhere Electric shad bc its natural and mature bass love purple
Hey Matt, more videos please! I still have 1 closet left for more lures...👍 if u happen to see this, how about 3 baits for gravel pits...they can be tough in the summer!
can you guys put together a river smallie vid. the river i fish has pretty much everything, big boulder and chuck rock beds, smaller rock beds, tons of lay downs/fallen trees, a million docks, grass, has it all, but theyre weird in my river, harldy ever hit hard baits(cranks and jerk) jigs(small or larger) top water, mainly just ned rigs, wacky worms, and slow falling tubes. maybe ive just been doing it wrong. also depending on where on the river, theres either lots of stronger current or almost no current. I invite you guys to try the upper potomac sometime and see if you have better luck lol. Dam 4 and 5 specifically
It’d be awesome if you guys could do a video on shallow river fishing for smallmouth. When the bite gets tough. I’ve been struggling on the Susquehanna river in PA
Great video. Been trying some of these and have found some go tos. Mainly fish mucky bottoms but recently found a rocky bottom waterway with current. Finally get to fish the wobble head and other bottom baits. Such a great bite
I enjoy watching your videos very informative and to the point I do have 1 question for you I never hear you mention and that is what kind lures or trick worms would you use in brackish water especially when it is hot out?
Man… I’ve been straight up tearing the big ones up on a square bill in heavy cover. Natural colors worked best and the water is pretty murky. Fishing my family’s private pond I caught 6 fish 5lbs+ in two days. I’ve fished that pond my whole life, never chunked a square bill, and I promise fish of that size don’t come out that often. I tried a few other tried and true baits out there and hooked up on a few dinks, but nothing like that square bill. Cheers!
Our big home lake in PA here has a clear but tea stained water into murky deeper water. Most shallow up to 8 ft or so is tea stained. Seems like green pumpkin works good some days and others not. What would you recommend for that? There’s another lake close by that’s like that
What are some good cranking options for pond guys if we can’t throw the deep divers but we know the shallow bite has died down quite a bit? I would like to be able to get a crank down to the big ones out in the deeper parts of the ponds but the squarebill isn’t always great to get it done at 6 or 7 ft
Do you have any recommendations as to what I should be throwing on the Delta I know you’re very familiar with it is it just frog/jig? Did you ever throw the wobble head in the Delta? Ive just been struggling lately getting bigger fish I’m catching a bunch a little one and two pounders but I’m just not getting the 4 plus fish. I’ve been throwing the wieghtless wacky in the 6 inch but it’s just little guys. Thanks
What are some good summer baits for smallmouth specifically Texas smallmouth 😓😓I keep running into big ones but I think my presentation is too big but I’m not trying to throw a baby Ned on these hogs
@@jacobsanchez5075 depends on the cover. I’m in Northern Wisconsin and we like to use an exposed hook for Smallies if we can, but some of our lakes have really gnarly rock cover and/or there’s some grass, so we rig them on VMC’s Ringed Wide Gap hook. That ringed hook is a the winner for Tubes bro ~
I'm 64 years old and best bait I've ever used was your regular straight green pumpkin with bait juice 17 lbs of bass less than 3 hrs... its not always the color mainly the scent bass only see 2 colors white and black!!!
I've seen some studies suggesting they see red also. The problem with that is, reds are the first colors the eye (human eye) loses as water depth increases. Personally, I think they see shades and reflections - which is why I try to mix some glitter into my soft plastic whenever possible. I think scent may play a role when the bait is very slow moving, but I believe bass are mainly visual predators.
You’re right that color takes back seat in importance. Most bass lures are colorized to catch bass fishermen first, then fish. OS Bob is right. Bass see red and green. Red loses significance with depth because it doesn’t penetrate water. With increasing depth, green does, too. They can’t tell yellow or chartreuse from white. Bright blue appears as dark green, and medium blue appears as dark gray. Purple depends on the dye. If it’s true purple, it appears black, but if it’s a mixture of red and blue, it appears dark red.
With all the pressure where I live and the lack of bank access at most places without a boat I barely get descent bass anymore... Sadly I get skunked more often than not or I catch a ton of dinks.
I recently decided, instead of fishing that requires hiking, I was going hiking, with breaks for fishing. Also, I will divide my time at any spot between bass, catfish, and crappie/bluegill. I put in too much effort and expense to take an empty creel home every time.
I used to fish the California aqueduct and the Delta Mendota when I lived in Modesto. I never saw anybody catch anything but 6” strippers. There must be catfish, though. You could hear the bells on catfish anglers’ poles tinkling at night. I saw a couple of nice rattlesnakes, too.
