Such a great decision to get a new harness for a KW cabover. That Freightliner harness you had there would only do your head in if you tried to use it. Save it as a spare for Freightliner conventionals.
It burns when we get so far into a task only to find out we went down a rabbit hole and we have to change last minute. Thanks for sharing another update on your repowering of crystal! Looking forward to hearing this ol girl rumbling once again and moving under its own power..
That’s an awesome decision especially for this truck , if time is money you will save in the long run for sure ! I’m totally blown away by the crazy amount of wiring for an older truck . Great job James ! JESUZ JOHN OLIVER THE WIRES !
James is probably the smartest decision you could make. I was sitting here thinking if you had a schematic that would help. But this came out of the conventional right? It’s probably a totally different beast in a cab over. I was thinking 295. A running off the switch to the stereo would be the power of the stereo. What do I know without a schematic I’m lost.👍👍👍
Great video James glad to see you getting the cab air ride located on the frame on Krystal. Without a wire schematic its hard to know where each wire should or shouldn't be there. Looking forward to your next video stay safe James.
Thanks for another great video brother you’re moving forward nicely with this old girl wiring is always every mechanic’s nightmare there’s always so much to go wrong you made a excellent choice to get another wiring harness your still moving forward leaps and bounds. Cheers brother keep up the amazing job and videos ❤
I told you I couldn't wait to see how this works out for you. I wanted to try it myself on my old 1990 K100E but my brain started hurting after thinking about the mess I might have gotten myself into. May the force of patience be with you.
@retty I sold that truck 14 years ago and you're telling me there's a better way lol. Can't wait to see this better way so I can kick myself in the rear for letting that truck go.
I think you may make your life easier by just taking what you need to run the ecm, and un pinning from the remaining loom, then laying it out in the truck to ensure you have enough length. Follow all the ecm wires in and out and install only them to the truck. One wire at a time, a notebook and you will get there. Leave all the loom in the truck that you can, but remove what you replace. You will get there. It’s a pity I’m in Scotland, that would be such a good task to do! Get the proper un pin tools for the connector blocks👍🏻
Well, one takeaway from this is that you’ve had the opportunity to clean/inspect the dash harness and such….you also had the wisdom to know when to change course by ordering a custom harness. Bit by bit, Krystal is going back together.
I know you are an airline pilot so you can appreciate this. I worked in aerospace manufacturing for many years and some of that work consisted of building wiring harness's for 777 and 737 aircraft. You think those wires are a lot try building a harness that is 50 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter with a couple hundred individual wires. The entire harness in tested and if only one failure is found the entire harness must be taken apart and repaired. Forgotten exactly how many miles of wires are in an average commercial airliner but it is a LOT. Wires are one rabbit hole I try to avoid. Like the new intro...
William Is correct 295A switched power from ignition switch for radio 295 B constant power with key off for radio memory wire. If you still have donor cab Schematic should be on inside of access cover for fuse panel
..JP, if U try again with a clear head, U will put in place. The leads show U where to go-all is by elimination. I would NOT cut anything, just wrap it up at the end. This harness has the connector to the ECM, so U need it. don't b afraid of it.
When I was still trucking, nothing I know had a ECU, yes I do know what it stands for. I think you made a great decision to go with a new wiring system for your truck. Sorry I don't stay in touch but James, I am not a well person and our government found us expendable. no longer a paying customer that buys their coffee... you know exactly what I am talking about as taxes are what makes you important... They have cut of my very needed pain management so that I no longer function as a human doing normal daily things. I haven't been able to walk now for years due to me trusting just one doctor who did promise but never kept it.... all those surgeries failed and now I can not be operated on with my kinds of insurance. The addiction is real and did start with me in Nam. We will chat more later but be sure, I am okay and never stop fighting
Hey James you should have a seam ripper instead of a knife blade to cut the tape, it will not Knick the wire insulation. Maybe wire 295A is radio power and wire 295B is constant radio power to keep preset stations and clock set
Wiring! UGH! I'm okay at it myself when my patience level is where it needs to be. But some days, well most days! LOL I'd rather spend the day changing split rim tires! instead! LOL
Be time ahead running the k-100 harness and just adding your ecm battery power and ground, key switch power throttle and data link then just add the original gauge senders
Hell yeah man. Look at that wiring mess. Lol. Nice video to watch. Have to deal with same stuff on my Ford in the future. Wiring is all messed up to hell.
If you flatten out one end of a 1 inch diameter pipe that is about 3 feet long. Then drill two holes in it the same pattern of the holes on the yoke. Bolt it to one side of the yoke. Let the other end of the pipe rest against the frame of the truck you won't loose all the torque from the impact.
Wise move James. But I don't know how you can work the ECM wiring into that older Kenworth. That could be a challenge. Good luck though, I'm sure you'll get it worked out in time.
Hey driver! I believe with all that patience you have, you must have a little brain surgeon in ya! Keep up the great videos and can't wait to see her on the road for a test drive! 10-4 driver im gone
Hi James, that wiring harness looks like a mess. A lot to figure out. I think if it was me I’d get the stand alone harness. Wow that yoke must’ve really been on there. Sounds like you did about everything to get it off. The cab air ride seemed like it should’ve worked I don’t think you had it backwards cause the exhaust holder would’ve been on the front side of it . Stay safe😊
Man that's alot of wiring. Reminds me of that one movie with those people in it. Where he removes a bunch of stuff from that space ship that is going to destroy the asteroid.
Hey James great video again they must have put lots of lock tite on that yoke especially if you got it red hot it should have came off well you will figure it out for sure !!
James that wire u said going to the stereo might be the ignition power for the stereo so when the key is in the on position the stereo turns on dont quote me on that lol but if yr getting a new harness guess it dont matter now lol
Hey James is it possible that that 295a is for a keyed power source for this stereo versus having constant? May also have another hot source for the clock only
I see my friend do alot of these he said if you let burn you out put down come back and start again and write it down good luck but I know you're going to get it done because it's Krystal 😅
That is going to make a world difference with that air bag on the Cab Brother I am glad I am not you with that wiring nightmare good luck with that bro just keep working hard you will figure it out that is a good idea about getting a another wiring for it safe travel on the airplane Captain
If you think thats a lot of wires you should see all the wiring for a computer filled car lol 😊. But you think all the guages switches and lights you gotta have wires lol . Patient's 😊
I know this old but to get that yoke off, you are not going to be able to hold it brother. Get two plates, bolt one on the left and one on the right, of the yoke, so the plates/bars wedge on top of and under frame and hold the yoke from turning, than give it hell! HOOAH!!!
Such a great decision to get a new harness for a KW cabover. That Freightliner harness you had there would only do your head in if you tried to use it. Save it as a spare for Freightliner conventionals.
Rite on bro

@@JamesPretty without a schematic it’s hard to tell. That thing is a cluster f$$@@. I would’ve done the same thing.👍👍👍

Man i wish you were closer to chattanooga. Id help with that harness. Wiring is fun
Would be awesome

Ugh ya. That sounds crazy
When it comes to stereo you will have 295 a is possibly the power when ignition turned on and 295 b is memory power.
William
Is correct
295A switched power from ignition switch for radio
295 B constant power with key off for radio memory wire.
If you still have donor cab
Schematic should be on inside of access cover for fuse panel
Mr. Pretty that's going to be a good win for you when finished. Appreciate you and your time making us these videos

Hey James is it possible that that 295a is for a keyed power source for this stereo versus having constant? May also have another hot source for the clock only
Na it’s the main power to the key switch not from the key switch. I tagged that harness wrong. It’s not stereo.
Good Job...

Cut the nut with a wizzer cutting wheel and split nut with air chisel
I am not an auto electrician but that wire from the stereo to the key switch could switch the stereo off when the truck is off. Just saying.
Thought about that. But it’s the main power to the switch. Must have put the tag in the wrong harness when I tagged it all
Nothing like a view from the back..😂😂😂😂...
