A ray of light in the dark sadness of FM content creators. Maybe you are so different because you don't stream the game. I don't know, but I really hope those who want to enjoy this game won't miss your channel. A humble addition: also training should be made according to your philosophy. It's literally written in the game, but apparently most people miss it
Training only improves stats over time, unless it's a "buff" like set pieces or penalties practice? It also manages fitness and happiness. I don't think the training schedule and ME are that tightly knitted just yet. If you know otherwise, please let me know.
@KOBKStreak Oh boy... sorry. This will be long. In FM - as in any software we can't debug - it's hard to understand dependencies, so it's hard to understand what is a direct correlation and what is undirect. In more than a quarter of a century playing (not simulating. Simulation might be completely different) this game, I have now some certainties: - you don't train, you don't win. My players have automatic intensity and they don't do gym or field if they are not at full condition. This means starters do a huge training preseason and very very little during the season. Whenever I see a starter's performance dropping, I send him on holiday and when he comes back he trains. Performance goes back to normal every single time (note: I do not use unconsistent players, it could be different for them). Now, this can be a direct consequence of training or it can be indirect via training happiness, but... - since they introduced the focus session, I am 100% sure that session has direct consequences in the ME: I played the same team, same tactic, same league one year mixing up focus and the next one focusing only on defense, and the difference is undisputable. Still, it could be only that session, being it special. - set pieces sessions for sure make a difference, but once again it could be because of familiarity and happiness - physical training, specifically endurance, for sure make a difference in the stamina conmected to pressing. Lazy players (low work rate) don't press no matter what, but even hard workers die earlier if they didn't do a lot of physical training. My assumption is that this is considered a total amount during the season, it is not connected to a specific match. But once again it could be that the link is via the training happiness, specifically the phrase "happy that the hard training preseason is paying out" - I recently discovered that the "chance conversion" session improves the shots on target/shots ratio. I didn't find an indirect correlation yet, but it could be hidden in the training happiness: my assumption is that players complain if they don't train what they are asked to do on the field. The assumption is based on the fact that for instance a fullback/winger training in the defensive unit will complain lack of attacking training if you play him as winger in midfield. - all training session under "match preparation" dramatically change the way players act in the game engine. But again this could be indirect via team cohesion (massively important) and tactical familiarity (broken, but still meaningful) Sorry for being so long, but my point is that the game is technically very complicated, but if you follow what is written in the game itself, and if you really play the game instead of simulate it, it does what is written. Almost every time. Knowing if it is a direct or indirect correlation, honestly, I think is impossible. And to be even more honest, I think it's much more funny if we don't really know everything
I was starting to get bored of FM but no, our glorious king, or as someone else said, a ray of light in the dark sadness of FM content creators has restored my joy. Thanks mate❤️🙏

@@angelobenito-aguilar503 So far as i understand, atleast up to fm23, a 5 man defensive line with longballs on fast forwards works great in lower leagues. I tend to just to a gegenpressing 433 variant, usually go up through the leagues. A good tip is to play structured, with less freedom when you have lesser players.
I have custom views that show the attribute needed for each role (45!). It's a pain to set up for the first time, but it means I can check who can play X role with a scroll of my mouse wheel, even when it's not their actual position. It also allows me to compare all my players in Y position at the same time, rather than having to click between them or do more than one "compare players" comparison. While it's slow and boring to create and set up, I can near-instantly see the quality level of each squad (are my CDs all in the 11-13 range? 14+? Wait, is that youngster's attributes only 1-2 less than my first choice guy, except for this area where he smokes him?). If my defensive mids are better off as Anchors (even the ones who only play CM), then I know I either have to ship them out, or I'm playing a formation with a DM. If you also have other custom views for possession/passing, counter, and other philosophy stats (technique, passing, vision, decisions, etc / physicals, crossing, passing, heading, etc), you can then also see which philosophy your current squad favours. And of course, you can pick and choose the views, so only having the roles you want to use, or only using those that focus on philosophy attributes rather than roles.
I've been playing Manager games since the time I barely understood English, somewhere around the age of ten or eleven, which was a long time ago (’99-’00), and I’m still playing it today at 35. I’ve never felt the need to watch UA-cam tutorials, tips or anything similar, but since I haven’t played the last few FM series, I decided to have someone guide me through the latest version. That’s when I stumbled upon your channel, sir. What I want to say is that I have never seen such thorough and intelligent explanations anywhere. I want to thank you for every video, you have my full support (and ofcourse, my subscription). With your voice, you could easily be a radio host! 😁 All the best to you sir and thank you once again for this exceptional video. Greetings from Serbia!
thank you my friend for the lovely words and taking the time to comment :) seems cliche but it really does mean a lot to me that these videos are helping others explore and enjoy the game more
Great video. These really break things down nicely and in a way I personally, have never thought about and I've got thousands of hours into the game series.
they have some of the best around... and you're right, something about the bird on the bat is so iconic. Even their minor league teams have incredible hats
I've been playing for a while but creating a tactic has always been pretty daunting for me. This video gave me the push I needed to finally give it a try! Thanks a lot for going straight to the point and explaining in a simple but concise way. Top notch content ^^
thank you and thank you for the comment!! I do have some ideas for the opponent! The first video I'd do that I have an idea for is how to analyze an opponent during a match (what formation and roles are they using, etc...) and thanks for the ideas! :)
Thanks for this... I love aggressive direct football.. using the IW and IF together, BWM and BBM too. Then allowing the instructions in the possession and out of possession section to be neutral
7:55 In tactics science we call the combo of the centerback + the 2 NFBs ‘rest defense’, with ‘rest’ being the the rest of the field (that is not the attacking zone) 😂
Good video! For tactical philosophy I generally let the board/supporter expectations help set how I'll want to play though sometimes never meet them. In my Madrid save, board and supporters wanted direct football so I spent all the time on direct or more more direct but they were never satisfied in that regard?
Greetings from Korea! I noticed you're using NFB instead of FB(De), and I'm curious about your reasoning behind this preference. While NFB enforces the More Direct Passes instruction, are there specific advantages to using NFB that make it worth choosing over FB(De)? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
hey there! I love the question! You're totally right, the NFB does have direct passes as an instruction! But the biggest difference between the two (and why I chose a NFB over a FB(D)) is that the NFB will almost always stay back in that position. Where as the FB(D) will mostly stay back. If you're curious, I go into this in a little more detail in my NFB video. I want the full back to always stay back and keep our back-3 The NFB is also sneaky creative with those direct passes (much like the No Nonsense Centre Back). So the dedication to holding their position plus that bit of creativity is why I chose it over the FB(D). Hope that helps and thank you for the question :)
Interesting topic. My prefeered philosophy is gegenpress in a 4231. I really like high intensity, high risk high reward. The problem I facing tho with it is fatigue and frequent injuries in november/december and I start dropping points. I play with Wolves and Im gonna uncheck every team instruction as you said in the video and see how the team plays and them adjust slowly. But im not gonna lie I struggle a lot to get gegenpress to be effective🤣
now that you mention it, I do need to do a video on fatigue. I do have a tip for you, if it may help: During a busy fixture period, usually November/December like you said, to help manage fatigue is I'll just punt on some matches and send players on vacation. I find that really helps keep the team fresh during busy times. For example, say you had a fixture list like this: Tuesday: at Benfica (Champions League) Saturday: at Man City (Premier League) Wednesday: vs Bristol (EFL Cup) Sunday: vs Crystal Palace (Premier League) I would play the CL match and then immediately send 3-4 key players on vacation for one week. They'd leave on Wednesday and come back in time for the EFL Cup match. I'm punting the Man City match; the odds of me winning probably aren't great to start with and to me it's more important to rest some players. Hope that made sense :D
That would be an intresting video. I hire medical staff and fitness coaches I try to sign players with great stamina, work rate natural fitness but its difficult buying a whole new 11 with those type of players. So Im gonna try out your tip and send the key players out on vacation when their is more games in the schedule. Thanks for sharing your opinion becauss I never thought of that. Its worth trying out. @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
a new series idea could be "how to play against different tactical styles" like control possession, the gegen press or even park the bus. please consider 🙏
Everything is possible on this unrealistic game.. i score more goals wirh cautios and balanced mentality rather than positive and attacking mentallity. Never tried defend i think it woukd be amazing.
the NCB would be a great fit in a counter as well :) I was just thinking the BPD will carry it out himself and look for a counter-through ball (like @kelso66 said). Both could be effective in a counter :D
Love your videos as always. One question, how do you come up with the philosophy, did the team itself influenced your choice? Do you sometimes enforce a philosophy that doesn't seem to suit the players? Curious to hear on how you would approach having a group of players that may not be the best or expected to do well (e.g. relegation battle contenders). I know for Luton Town you've adapted yourself to the opponents, but what happens when you want to believe in set principles.
great question! I would adopt a philosophy (roughly) based on what the team is good at. I wouldn't use this tactic for Luton, for example. I hope to touch on this in a future video, but I would make two philosophies for a save. How I want to play and what the team is good at. As the seasons go on, bring in players that fit the long term philosophy while using what players I have in the short term.
Really insightful watch as per. Found the idea of encouraging where passes go helpful. In that same regard, is there a way to encourage entry into the box through 3rd man passes (or one-twos) and through balls via zone 14? (hope that brain dump makes sense)
I love this idea! I would say a narrow formation, shorter passing (maybe even much shorter) would encourage this. Dribble less as well. And I would focus on player roles in those advanced positions that don't have "dribble more" as an option. As an example, the Advanced Playmaker on support doesn't have "dribble more" but on attack they do, so making a teamwide effort to get us passing. Once again this is a great idea!!! thanks for the suggesstion
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker No worries, it resonated with me when you said you wanted to enjoy watching your team play. I always thought we had no control who players passed to until i started watching you and Mustermann. You both feed into my need to control a game and watch my team play with intentionality. Also, thank you for a reply and pointing me in the right direction.
Hey when can you count on how you play for example some team like westham, newcastle etc ! We would like to see how you react during the match as far as tactical changes etc well just how you play ! Greetings great job, much health !
@ not many good tactics that actually work on UA-cam showcase Prime Stoke football, maybe you could add throw ins and corners as they also are another way to build a tactic if you have the correct players
So if you were playing with that formation against a team with two channel runners (AFs/PFs, IFs or even a MEZ on attack), would switching the NFBs to IFBs make sense? Those gaps look massive.
it is a great counter for this tactic. they'd have to do it quickly though, as my team is able to get back in their shape. Although you did give me an idea for a team instruction of "regroup" so they get back in our defensive shape quick.
Preseason would be the ideal time. I like to schedule friendlies against teams I'm stronger than, but would still have to make a coherent tactic to beat them. For example, if you're in the English Premier League, schedule some friendlies against Championship or League One teams. You should win (helps boost team morale) but the opponent would still be competitive enough where you can't just toss any ole tactic out there
Another good video. Would like to know if you've seeb the training function as being broken the past few weeks (it always was technically). It makes me want to ask how do you plan to train your regens into fitting into a tactic? Do you train them specifically in the role or do you do as i do and intentionally train roles i dont use just to get my preferred skillset out of the player? I'm unsure as to whether it is actually a benefit or detriment when i promote those players into the first team since I haven't tested it.
If I'm honest I actually don't may much attention to the findings and testings that are done in the FM world. Not that I'm against them or would disagree or anything, but I prefer to stay in my own little FM bubble (I don't like "to see how the hot dogs are made" so to speak 😂😂 ) I fluctuate, but oftentimes I'll find myself training players in more difficult roles so their training is more distributed across their attributes. So if I have a newgen central midfielder, i may train them as a Roaming Playmaker to get a lot of their relevant attributes trained
I was thinking when watching Arsenal yesterday, that I like the tactical idea of building up slowly when the opponent is set (e.g. from dead ball situations like goal kicks, building out from the back, and in the final third when the opponent is set in their defensive shape) but progressing the ball as quickly as possible when the opponent isn't set (e.g. turnovers, balls that penetrate the opposition lines and cause chaos). Would this be as simple as turning on "play out of defence", "counter" and "work ball into box" or is there any way I could make this tactical idea work even better in FM?
yea I think your instruction ideas are spot on. Using instructions for in-possession to focus on keeping the ball, but turning on the counter specific ones. (counter and distribute quickly for example)
Please answer this question, are you often not to set "in transition" and "out of position" or other team instruction in your tactics? Bc i see your video but you not really often to set that, can you tell me why? And when we have to set our out position or transition instruction on our tactics Thank you
great question :) I generally don't use a lot of team instructions; I find the formation and player roles will do a lot of the work in how I want the team to play. For example, the Pressing Forward and Defensive Winger will naturally want to counter-press the opponent, I don't have to use the Team Instruction "counter-press" and tell the entire team to do it. I can choose the player roles I want; which gives the other players in the formation more discipline.
i thought you dont need to choose shorter passing and slightly higher tempo on that mentality because when you change mentality to positive its already changed, isnt it?
you don't necessarily have to. It's true the positive mentality changes, but I did those two to focus on it a little more. But you're right the positive mentality could be easily used if you wanted to add in a little bit
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker yes i like that mentality because of that when on others mentalities its always standard and i dont like changing it by myself but through the mentality and works well
What a coincidence, was trying to create a new tactic for the new season with philosophy: start with 4231 and turn into back 3 as well but using a half back. And now my tactic end up like Sk(s) Iwb(s) bpd(d) bpd(c) fb(a) Dm(s) hb W(s) Am(a) if(s) Dlf(s/a) Still not sure about the dlf. I want to use support but will it be lacking of attack duty?
The DLF(S) is my go-to for the role, so I usually default to that. So in that case I may try the AM on Attack and see what kind of results. But the roles look good!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker yeah i think i'm gonna stick with dlf(s). i tried dlf(a) even af, the dlf(s) just help a lot for creating confusion even if he doesn't score
4-3-3 attacking Football Hybrid Philosophy with Pass and move ala Manchester United 1999 and positioning play ala Barcelona 2011, fairy narrow possesion and focus play at middle, inverted wingback, mezalla in attack mode and last 3 Complete Forwards all in supports mode and 2 of them set to stay at wide to achieve this hybrid philosophy.
I'm really struggling to get my head around this. I want to play attacking football and choose an appropriate formation, like 4-2-3-1. But when I come up against a stronger opponent, it all goes wrong and my whole attacking style just becomes about retrieving balls from my own net. Am I thinking about this the wrong way?
Sometimes you may need to "postpone" your philosophy one match and try something more defensive to get through; or maybe have a secondary tactic for when you're playing a big club. It can also depend on how much stronger your opponent is. If you're playing as Arsenal in the Premier League and go against Man City, they're (potentially) a stronger club but some tactical tweaks can keep you in it. If you're Southampton playing Man City, there may not be much you can do. Hope that helps :)

I've had success with them (and they create some really attractive football) but it's true I wouldn't recommend using them if you're a newly promoted club. Better saved for the mid/top table teams 😃
So you're saying I shouldn't expect my team instructions of counter attacking football to work with a team full of player roles that slow down the play and want possession football? Madness.
@@daffaputra5885 Shadow Striker would definitely be one of the roles I use; maybe a Trequartista to combine with the CF? It'd be super attacking, but you'd really be able to confuse the defense
Bro I'm from Indonesia, thank you for your advice, I use SS on the left, AM in the middle, Trequartista on the right, with short passing and slightly lower tempo, the striker scores a lot of goals . THANKYOU MY BROTHER

that's wonderful to hear thank you for sharing :) and mustermann's been crushing it with his content lately
Congrats from Brazil
thank you my friend :)
loved the vid!
thank you :)
Good video! For tactical philosophy I generally let the board/supporter expectations help set how I'll want to play though sometimes never meet them. In my Madrid save, board and supporters wanted direct football so I spent all the time on direct or more more direct but they were never satisfied in that regard?
thanks :) and for your question, I'm not to sure if I'm being honest. I do know one way to appease them, and that's to win a bunch of matches haha :D
I want the full back to always stay back and keep our back-3
The NFB is also sneaky creative with those direct passes (much like the No Nonsense Centre Back).
I do have a tip for you, if it may help:
During a busy fixture period, usually November/December like you said, to help manage fatigue is I'll just punt on some matches and send players on vacation. I find that really helps keep the team fresh during busy times. For example, say you had a fixture list like this:
Tuesday: at Benfica (Champions League)
Saturday: at Man City (Premier League)
Wednesday: vs Bristol (EFL Cup)
Sunday: vs Crystal Palace (Premier League)
I would play the CL match and then immediately send 3-4 key players on vacation for one week.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
a new series idea could be "how to play against different tactical styles" like control possession, the gegen press or even park the bus. please consider 🙏
great idea and suggestion thank you :)
Same needed here especially for breaking the park the bus of ATM ✌🏼
Best content out there. But how does BPD fit in a counter system...not a NCB?
I think because a NCB will just hoof it clear, while a BPD will look to carry the ball up field and make a pass
Just great.
thanks :D
Thanks man
no problem :)
Yurrrr let's gooo
Hey when can you count on how you play for example some team like westham, newcastle etc ! We would like to see how you react during the match as far as tactical changes etc well just how you play ! Greetings great job, much health !
Or cool if you at least show 2/3 matches in whole as you watch and what you change during the game etc ! Greetings again !
thank you for the comments :) and I hope to have some videos on how to watch a match coming up in the near(ish) future. thanks for the suggestions!
Would love to see your take on a “Brexit” / “Old School” 442!
mmm I do love a 442 haha... great idea for a video!!
Is the pre-season the best time to watch the tactics and make chances? Or should I do a 2nd file and play a competitive game to test the tactic
Not that I'm against them or would disagree or anything, but I prefer to stay in my own little FM bubble (I don't like "to see how the hot dogs are made" so to speak 😂😂 )
I fluctuate, but oftentimes I'll find myself training players in more difficult roles so their training is more distributed across their attributes.
And when we have to set our out position or transition instruction on our tactics
Thank you
great question :) I generally don't use a lot of team instructions; I find the formation and player roles will do a lot of the work in how I want the team to play. For example, the Pressing Forward and Defensive Winger will naturally want to counter-press the opponent, I don't have to use the Team Instruction "counter-press" and tell the entire team to do it. I can choose the player roles I want; which gives the other players in the formation more discipline.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker okay thank you. Maybe next time you can explain how to read opponent before match and how to tweak tactics based on that
@@sambasil2520 that's a great idea :) thanks for the suggestion!
We want Hansi Flick tactic!
i thought you dont need to choose shorter passing and slightly higher tempo on that mentality because when you change mentality to positive its already changed, isnt it?
you don't necessarily have to.
And now my tactic end up like
Sk(s)
Iwb(s) bpd(d) bpd(c) fb(a)
Dm(s) hb
W(s) Am(a) if(s)
Dlf(s/a)
Still not sure about the dlf.
Good ol' 442 is the way
I love the 442!
4-3-3 attacking Football Hybrid Philosophy with Pass and move ala Manchester United 1999 and positioning play ala Barcelona 2011, fairy narrow possesion and focus play at middle, inverted wingback, mezalla in attack mode and last 3 Complete Forwards all in supports mode and 2 of them set to stay at wide to achieve this hybrid philosophy.
i love it. I need to try a tactic with 3 CF!!
Hope that helps :)

it's hard to use the combination of enganche poacher and raumdeuter,
Why do you think so? It's a perfect trio: one passer and two space exploiters
Madness.
ilove you bro
I love you too 😄
My god. We are so deep now😂
it's only going to go further off the rails 🤣🤣
A clear idea of what your team should be makes FM easier 😂
A clear idea can benefit all aspects of life if we're honest haha
why use NFB and not the IFB?
Element of suprise
I like that the NFB stays out wide. The IFB will work too, but I wanted that wider formation
What is your philosophy Mr. Roaming Spacemaker?
Is it ‘Space’? 😂
I'm gonna put a "swear jar" on my desk and put a quarter in every time I say space in a video
🤣
Bro me request 4231 3am bro , please
I've got a few 4231 videos floating around out there :) check out the one on creating space for the formation if you'd like some more :D
@ I ask for advice for 3AM behind CF, what role is it good to fill in?
I use 2SS on the right and left sides and 1AP on the centre side, it seems to be less effective.
