    Man Im not the type to comment but you are the best tactics life safer and teacher I've ever seen I love your content so much before I used to just make tactics that resemble the op meta tactics because otherwise I would lose so many games but you thought me to watch the games in full match so I booted up fm started a new save and watched the whole Pre season in full and the first match and wow the football I managed to make this team play all because I stopped being lazy and watching key highlights, it's amazing satisfying, and the most important lesson was don't just ball watch, watch the sorrounding what your off the ball players are contributing to both defending and attacking

    When you were talking about tall central defenders, you were looking at two parameters: height, and jumping reach. but as far as I know, height has no effect on that abillity. let's say a short player with a jumping reach of 20 will jump higher than the tallest player with a jumping reach of 15.

    This video kicks ass and I generally agree with everything you said. I would simply add that it is possible to play with a higher block and even press some against higher teams if you have enough guys back. If you have something like 2 full backs with 2 DM's for instance (ofc w/ 2 CBs as well) or my personal favorite of having 3 CB's, you can still play higher up the pitch will generally help a lot. But you are going for the more classical approach of inviting pressure which is great too.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 місяці тому

      Love the additions!! Very true; I find that 2 DM's in general allow you to play a bunch of different style and you can adjust the player roles depending on how you want to play.
      And yea, wanted to show the more classical approach to the counter. If I make "Counter Attack: The Sequel" I may take your approach with a more high press haha

    Soooo good. I love that you aren’t about the full on press like most of the content out there. There are more ways to play this game. I have been experimenting with the be more disciplined instruction lately and wonder what your thoughts would be on pairing that with the counter tactic?

      Thanks!! Love playing some of those more defensive tactics.
      And I always call the "more disciplined" instruction the "don't be stupid" button haha. Meaning, if I have a lead, telling the team to play smart, don't give away the ball cheaply, stuff like that. All that to say, that could definitely work with these kinds of tactics! Another incredibly useful video along with the halfback one you did. I have a concept for a team with similarities to your Leverkusen set-up but with the main difference being a shadow striker instructed to mark the right sided CM instead of a Mezalla. Do you think this would work well in encouraging the CWB to drift even further into the centre? Would the shadow striker drop deep enough to reform the 4-3-3 shape? can you tell me where you got that henley? will the SS need therapy and new legs after playing three matches?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 місяці тому

      The important thing first: the henley is from the Gap. And on that topic, the henley is an underrated piece of clothing. If I ever did a video of "what is the top 5 underrated things to wear" a henley may be #1.
      As for your other question: if you'll allow me to promote myself, in case you haven't seen it my Deep Lying Forward/Shadow Striker combo video uses Leverkusen and a Shadow Striker. It's a 4231 instead of a 433, but it uses the same idea (sit back, hit on the counter). May give you some ideas on the how the role will play out.
      The Shadow Striker will work nice with the CWB. He'll drop deep to help with the build up but move up into the striker position as you move into the final third. Should give room for your CWB to do those CWB things. In defense, your mileage may vary with role. He'll help, but it's an attacking midfield so player attributes will have a big effect (namely work rate and teamwork).
      That was probably more than you wanted but there you go haha

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker A justly informative response, i've seen all of the videos you've put out. I think I have a tendency to forget that the SS does drop to build up instead of just waiting to surge on. The henley is very adaptable, bit like you guv.

    You are by far, my favourite FM UA-camr.
    I wanted to ask what your tactical rationale was for playing with an “inverted central midfield” - playing the L-footed Xhaka in the MCR position, and the R-footed Wirtz in the MCL position?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 місяці тому +1

      Ha great catch! If I'm honest, it didn't start with the midfield, it started with the Winger. I had been using Amine Adli a bit and wanted to try him in the left winger position becaues he is left footed. I like a Mezzala and a Winger on the same side and it went from there.
      But it is a good point you bring up, I should probably pay more attention and put more focus on trying to match the footed-ness (if that's a word lol) and the player roles of the overall team, rather than focusing on one specific position that could affect the entire tactic.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 місяці тому

      I know it seems like I'm answering both sides haha but yep! You are right. I am inviting them in to the center even though I want to protect the center. But winning the ball in the center can be better for a counter (more angles of passing when you win it as opposed to being on the sideline).
      And I only want to protect the center when they're near our goal, not necessarily every time they have the ball. This pressing trap allows them into the center (where it's better to win the ball) while also protecting the area in front of our goal if they get further. The best example of it is the trap that leads to our goal; allows them into the center where we trap the ball in the midfield and our counter starts.
      This is just one approach to trapping! There are many ways to use the pressing traps, and the one I used in this video was just one example of it. Hopefully this wasn't too confusing haha. I hope to make a video specifically dedicated to the pressing trap at some point

    I don't mean this to be insulting to the great content creators out there who are constantly creating tactics - but your method is so much more realistic, and educational and I don't think you get enough credit for it yet. Hopefully The FM Show Podcast has you on to discuss your methods further. I have been using your possession tactic with some slight tweaks and find it so much more realistic while maintaining the challenge of the game - whereas most downloadable tactics seem to end up being "gamey." I hope you'll keep creating videos. Is there anywhere else to see your stuff or is this channel your primary?

      Thank you that was very kind! I'd love to be on the podcast one day; and that's awesome that you've further adjusted the possession tactic!
      I find this way of tactic building more realistic as well. I like the element of "luck" involved in winning a match...you do what you can to put your team in the best position to win, and after that, it's out of your hands.

    How would you setup pressing trap for a 3-man defense in a low block? Basically the weak areas of these formations are down the flanks but especially when you face a formation with an wide midfielder and full-back, they can work around the inside tripping easier.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 місяці тому

      Hmm.. that's a good one. I would probably still try the inside trap like in this video, but then use stop crosses instead. Keep our team wide the entire time and force them into our strength, the numbers in the midfield, and negate their strength out on the wings.

    • @sirtbambson
      @sirtbambson 2 місяці тому

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker that's what I've been trying. Often leads to huge amount of corner kicks and eventually the team conceding as defenders are really bad at clearing the ball from set pieces this year.
      I'm trying to play a low block combined with a relatively high defensive line to compress the space away between our three main lines (CBs, WB & DM and AM+STs).

    @rezii1945 2 місяці тому +2

    I was under the impression that "Trap inside" worked the opposite way, or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying here? By putting on invite crosses it sounds like you want a compact, narrow team, and force the opposition to the flanks, and close their possibility of cutting inside. Wouldn't trap inside ruin that? Doesnt that widen the team and try to shut down the flanks off the opposition?
    Or maybe I'm mixing them together. Is the "cross engagement" basically in the final third (our defense) and pressing trap in our final third/middle of the field?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 місяці тому +1

      Yea you're on it in the second part. So "trap inside/outside" works during their build up, when they're in their own half of the field and progressing the ball. The "stop/invite crosses" is when we're defending our final third.
      Meaning during their build up = our defensive shape is wide. This forces them centrally where winning the ball can be good for a counter.
      And then the defensive third = our defensive shape is compact. This either traps the ball or forces them out wide, taking away space for them in front of our goal.
      I'm not sure the exact minute in this video, but our goal stems from this trapping system. We play wide and force them into the center of the field and then close in around them and win the ball.
      It's a fun dynamic to add while defending!

      @rezii1945 2 місяці тому

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Interesting! I always thought I had to combine the right way to force them either on the inside or outside for both. This is cool! Maybe I can emulate the super narrow front 3 my team presses with and still invite crosses etc :)

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  2 місяці тому

      It's tough. I probably should pay attention/care about it more than I do, but I enjoy switching tactics (not for any special reason, just a pure enjoyment level).
      For me personally, I care more about squad dynamics and how they play together. So if your squad dynamics are in a good spot (meaning they've played together for a while, good dressing room, etc..) then I think you have more leeway in getting away with switching tactics. This is one of the reasons I like to bring up player personalities

  • @markwandera4445
    @markwandera4445 День тому +1

    I still don't get why you have trap inside and invite crosses at the same time. Isn't that counter intuitive? Trapping inside means you are pressing wide so that you can win the ball centrally but inviting crosses means you are not pressing wide so that you are compact. I'm confused

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  День тому

      Hmmm.. hopefully I can try to help clear it up a little :)
      The instructions are for different areas of the field. Trapping inside is when the opponent is in their build up (so in their own half, and into the midfield). We play wide to invite them into the center areas of the field.
      The invite crosses is when the opponent is in your final third. We will become more compact and play closer together. If you use those two together, my team will play wide while they opponent is building up, and then constrict around the ball as they get into our final third, (ideally) forcing a turnover.
      I hope to make a video on the pressing traps and I'll try to explain a little better in that one :)
