Very useful video, as always. One of my favorite players ever was Pirlo, so I always try to have a Pirlo-like role in my tactics. I like the idea of a savant who can make things happen for the team from the DM position.
Pirlo for me is a 100% Regista. Find a good one and give him traits like "try longe range passes" and "switch the ball to flanks" and watch the magic happens! :) Good luck!
Your channel is great and although I have a channel that talks about Football Manager in Arabic, but honestly I learned a lot from you and enjoyed what you present on your channel. I would like to thank you for your effort and wish you success always.
Wow, nice video! I haven't watched Football Manager video in a while, and I'm glad UA-cam recommended your video. DM Playmakers are really fun to use. Here's my take on these three DM roles: Roaming Playmaker: box-to-box midfielder who can dribble and penetrate, ideal for teams that rely on counter-attacks or quick transitions. Deep-Lying Playmaker: playmaker who dictates the tempo of the game, high-vision player, perfect for possession-based teams that build attacks from the back. Regista: A hybrid of both , suitable for teams that need a player who can do both.
@ interesting idea and not what I was expecting. Will try it! Though I prefer to buildup through the midfield and was hoping to involve my striker there. Having the defenders sort of avoiding the ball makes sense
A great guide to deep playmakers. My favourite is RPM, I always use against wide formations. This role does an advantage in deep play from the middle. And in an advanced attack it does an advantage in zone14 and when needed will run into the penalty area. A role strongly connected to the ball which makes him able to make a big difference in any sector.
Another great video, mate! In my opinion, DLP can be used on double pivot formation too. Currently, I'm pairing it with Defensive Midfieldier (Def). Giving extra cover in the front of our penalty box, and it will be the first playmaker during the attacking transition too.
thank you :) and you're right, I should've clarified in this video. I meant to say that the DLP could be suited for either pivot, where the Regista needs more specific formation.
Seen your name floating around on reddit the other day, been binge watching since. You actually show examples and break down why they work rather then sitting at a tactics screen. Ive tried to most away from plug-n-play and craft my own and this has already left me miles where I was. Im personally extremely interested to see how you actually break it down for yourself. I would 100% watch a playthrough series if that is your thing.
thank you and thank you for the comment :) I hope you enjoy/have enjoyed the back catalog of videos! As far as your question, I've been doing a save with Montpellier in recent videos. You probably won't see any episodic videos like "Episode #4, will we win this match??" kinda thing. I usually try to wrap it around an idea, philosophy, lesson, etc... I do that to try and make every video stand on their own so anyone new can jump into a video wherever they want. Also, that was probably more info than you wanted haha
Hi DLP, love the vids, keep up the great work man! Would love to see some explanation or info about asymmetrical formations and how to build them, when they are efficient, etc.
u was used to always have a DLP in my tactics because its such a must have role but lately i really learned to love the regista. Especially in a formation that playes with a double pivot the regista is, for me, the better choice. A DLP, even on support, will always be a safetiy first player while the regista does more fancy stuff :D Something that gets overlooked a lot of times are the "hidden playmakers" or supporting playmakers (at least i call them so :D) Roles like a carrilero or a inverted winger on support. basicly roles that have good vision and passing but are not a focus role which makes it less likely that they get covered by the opponent. So...i hope that was enough for the algorythm. :D
much appreciated for the algo!!! Good call on the Carrilero; maybe one of the most secretely creative roles in the game. I can't recommend a Regista over a DLP (for obvious reasons haha) but I do concede they are much better at beautiful passes
I usually have a 4-3-3 DM Wide with a DLP as my defensive midfielder. This was really helpful! Also, would you ever consider making a video where you take a look at our tactics?
that's a really great suggestion!! I'd love to do something like that I think in the future. I'd have to figure out a fair way to get submissions in, but thanks for the idea!
My new fav channel! On my way of watching all the videos posted, as a true manager fan that started with Premier Manager 98 😊 btw are your players always attacking opposite goal with such a direct attacking approach? My players always struggle to create chances like that
thank you!! I hope you enjoy all the videos and come to the conclusion that the Deep Lying Playmaker is the best player role haha. but seriously thanks! As far as your question goes, I usually go light on team instructions unless I want them to play a super specific way. Gives them a lot of freedom and sometimes you'll see them play with that more attacking approach
That's an amazing video, Teacher, but you should know my opinion about this topic: the best way to get your playmakers involved, is to have two or more of them! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@donVicanio I managed to use 4 without any issue. I play a good 70% of my games with 3. Actually my philosophy is either 0 or 2+ because one only can be easy to mark. In FM 2021 and early multiple pm freaked out the game engine, not happening anymore
@@donVicanio yep like @vurtaddicted mentioned running multiple playmakers is totally viable. I should stress that using just one is my personal preference 😂
A question I've been unable to answer myself being a newbie to FM, and after watching your videos is how many playmakers should I have in my formation, I'd assume one is kinda mandatory, but I do not know if 2 or 3 are a litlle bit overkill already. As an example, would a 4-2-3-1 formation work fine with an enganche and a DLP?
The nice thing (and maybe tricky thing) is that you don't need to use any playmakers if you don't want to. And there are plenty of successful tactics that use mutliple playmakers; and the common one would be what you've suggested (some kind of AM playmaker with a DM playmaker). If you're curious, my personal preference is to only use one playmaker. Not that it's the "right" way to play or anything, I just like to focus the tactic around one and fill out the roles accordingly :)
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Yeah, I feel that one playmaker to center the whole formation around sounds like a great way to build up a formation, however, I've had a lot of issues trying to get my enganche the ball to make killer passes, as a result ending up with quite poor chances and xG, then I started doubting if maybe another playmaker is actually required to move the ball up to him, or that the tactic may just be unnapropiate for my team. Thank you for the response and great set of videos mate, been learning a lot (and getting extra questions, the beauty of learning haha)
@@KentoXII glad you've been enjoying the videos :) and feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like. You may have seen them, but just in case, I've got two videos on the Enganche specifically. I would try the Poacher, Raumdeuter, and Inside Forward to go along in your tactic. The Enganche loves dedicated teammates making runs in behind. That should (hopefully) encourage those killer passes. Also, Flair is a key attribute for playmakers, since you want them to make those "unexpected" passes.
Yea looking back I should've clarified haha. I think I meant that the DLP could also be a double pivot, but can also be in a single pivot (where the Regista usually needs another DM or a back-3)
Great video! I watched a lot of your content recently and I have a question: do you avoid having more than one playmaker role in your tatics? I got this impression and, although it makes senes, given the way this roles function, the fact is I have made suscesfull tatics using DLP and AP players. They sometimes got a bit to close together, but it worked fine.
Yep, I like to play with just one playmaker in my tactics :D but not because of any fancy tactical reason, that's just how I like to play haha. I like to build around the one playmaker beacuse I find I can get different movements from other player roles. Having multiple playmakers in a tactic is definitely viable, and the one you suggested is very popular (the DLP/AP combo) :)
I love your content men. One thing bothers me though. Now that it is obvious that the ME is broken with some Meta roles and tactics, does the way we want to play matter anymore? Will the way we want to play give us the results we want?
sometimes I find it's best to start fresh, play some matches with a simple tactic. you may win, you may lose, but going back to the basics can hopefully make it a little more enjoyable :)
Nothing imminent for streaming, but I've got this Montpellier thing going and I've thought about doing a couple of one-off streams on some key matches or cup games

I am a bit dissapointed that you always seem to use a rpm in the defensive midfield. I've been using it instead of a b2b and I find it plays really differently to how you describe and the advice translates pretty poorly. Mine loves to go out to the flanks when my if cut's inside and even drops to a fb position when the midfield's occupied. You emphasise how other players should get out of the way to give the rpm space to work in but as an 8 they are more pure ball progressor who roams to create that space himself. Because they're usually so dangerous on the ball, you're asking entirely different questions when they receive the ball outside of the midfield that's meant to deal with him and that roaming overload on the flank is really tough to defend against
thank you for the feedback and comment! If you'll allow me to defend the RPM in this one, I will say my hands were kind of tied based on the defensive midfield subject matter :D
