I've always liked the stand on mowers. I see them used a lot on college campuses and residential properties. You definitely gave some good explanations on the difference between the two and why you would use one more than the other in different situations.👍
Used that exact mower for 2 seasons and I loved it. Way easier on my body and felt more premium. Also agree with the safety factor in case of having to bail. I almost fell down a cliff once. I also would get low and ski on that biatch down hills under branches. Awesome video.
Excellent video Naylor! I would add as a disclaimer that you will NOT use it as a walk behind mower except for possibly loading/unloading it and really random and infrequent scenarios (I have jumped off and it helped before when I was starting to get stuck). There is just no room for your legs to take their full stride, so you end up doing these weird little half shuffle steps that are uncomfortable and impractical. So don't think you can use it the exact same way as a walk behind mower, because the ergonomics just don't allow it.
Great video. I had a stander for one season and had to get rid of it because my knees started killing me . 2 weeks back to a sit down and my pain went away .

After using a zero turn for about 5 years my back is starting to hurt after mowing bumpy yards. Going to upgrade because my health is important. What good is money if you hurt your back?
Great video. Never thought about using a backpack blower while on the stander. One thing I like about a stander is if I get in soft turf I can get off (losing 200lbs of weight) on the mower and carefully push it through, to not rip up the muddy grass. One thing you should of done...found a hot chick to demonstrate how to "go all the way down" 👍
I’m trying to make the transition to stand on mowers. I’m going to have to go with a Bradley 36&52. Simply because I can get both for about the same price as one Toro unit. Regardless I’m convinced after watching your video on the subject, that I’m making a great decision towards increased efficiency and safety, also I can fit both in my 12’ enclosed.

New subscriber to your channel. Something I am thinking about doing with my wright 36" stander is attaching a battery powered hanheld blower to it. This way he doesn't have to return to the truck to get a blower. I hope this helps out the landscape community. I agree with your video standers are better.

I've been using a Gravely ProStance I bought new two years ago, and love it, but am looking for a bagger now like that Accelerator or the steel version from Rack 'Em, but just found out Gravely actually makes an OEM for the ProStance. Do you have recommendations or don't you bag?
I don't bag. But Toro just came out with a powered bagging system that I would get if I started bagging. I had a for my walk behind when I first started and it filled up way too quickly.
That's been my concern about them. Seems even with the extensions available, the capacity of them no way justifies the cost because I'd be forever dumping them. Thanks for your input.
I never wanted or would look into trying one, but it makes getting on and off the machine much faster and maybe less fatigue. Any thoughts on standing above the engine? Do you ever get sick from having exhaust fumes in front of you and not in back like a more traditional ztr? My only concern is having the engine heat and exhaust in front instead of in the back .
Definitely going to get a stand on, preferably a scag.. Question- what is the average number of lawns/clients a beginner can expect in their 1st year. I have a goal/number( 100) in mind, but I want to know if I am being realistic or not.
I reached 25 clients my first year with no marketing. I just handed out cards and started word of mouth. The beginning of year 2 I dropped down to 20, Now I have already tripled my client list. Still no marketing, and I had to hire on help for all of the mulch jobs, new seeding, and day to day work.

That's interesting. Why would a walk behind with a Velke be more productive than a stand on mower? I went from a walk behind with Velke to a stand on because it was more productive... I'm looking for an additional mower so I'm very interested to know. Weight??
I DO charge for bagging. While I don't actually have a single $35 dollar yard, I'd probably add at the very least $5 bucks for bagging. How long's it take you to mow a $35 dollar yard?
scott tyger , I like the smaller yards especially since I’m PT I mow after I get home at 3pm I’m hoping to get a 36 or 48” walk behind mower which one in your opinion would fit out business?
The smallest yard I have is a city lawn, takes about 30 minutes, pays $40 cash. My biggest lawn is a funeral home and it's grounds, and just mowing 4 times a month pays $1240.00, and every other month I have a field that accompanies that property that pays $340 to brush hog it with a small Massey and a 5 ft. mower, which I get a kid to do for me for $8 an hour and takes 7 or 8 hours. MOST of my lawns pay between $60 and $90 and take an hour, to an hour and a half. To answer your NEXT question, I'm going to agree with you on the smaller lawns. If you can get 30 minute lawns for $30 or $40 dollars, and they're in town where you can nail down 3 or 4 of them in close proximity to each other. I personally service a very rural area of western Pennsylvania, and aside from a small college town, most of my lawns are scattered throughout the region. Still, I make what I refer to as loops, getting 3 or 4 lawns a day in a 20 mile loop, the next day a different loop with another 3 or 4 lawns, then a 3rd and a 4th loop, and so on. For this area, the hills and slopes and uneven terrain of western PA, a stander is perfect, and the size of my lawns makes the 52" a perfectly sized version. I personally would probably advise AGAINST a stander if you're doing half hour yards with a 30" commercial push mower in town based solely on an ACCESS standpoint! Can you get a stander IN to your lawns, including the back yards? And then, what's the reason you WANT a stander? My own reasoning is traction, stability on slopes and it's cut down DRASTICALLY on trimming because I can SEE to maneuver it closer to things I used to have to weed-eat. And it makes awesome stripes. Why are YOU considering it?
At 6 foot 7 I cannot use a stand on mower. Any tal guys have mower recommendations? I'm looking to buy a Write walk behind for next season to replace my 42 inch zero turn and 42 in tractor.
I demo’d a husqvarna stand on this year and thought it was a ton of fun, but needed a zero turn because i have some properties that are a few acres. Definitely going to buy a stand on next year, i love my toro zrt, do you recommend the grandstand? Ive heard good things about the ferris standon
totally fine. I use the stand on mowers not the stand in there is a slight difference. The stand in mowers, imo, transfer a tiny bit more energy from the jounce of the mower to your body. Some people have 'iron asses" though and can sit all day. My spine and hips thank me for standing. I sit all weekend, riding my motocycle lol
We only use stand on mowers for a lot of reasons. Like you said you can see better easier to get on and off of them. But my main reason I just feel so lazy sitting on my lazy ass. And then there is the body weight issue. The girls are 5ft6 and they weigh 110 pounds. I am 6ft2 200 pounds. I see so many overweight people sitting on that zero turn mower 5ft6 or so and they look so overweight. I know im going to hear it but its a thing called heart attack yup fat on that body. People can laugh about it but its a serious issue. If they dont want to lose the weight for themselves think about there kids there going to leave behind. Its kinda like smoking hell with there kids why not give them cancer too. I have even seen mostly guys chew tobacco and saw a guy after years of doing that then he lost his lower lip. You have to love seeing his face with no lip? Someday people just might think about there health but maybe not.
There are many good brands like Toro that offer them. You have a lot of questions to answer for yourself first... What size deck do you need? What brands are available in your area? And do you want new or used? If you want a brand new 52" deck stand on mower... $3,500 will not be enough for any brand.
Yea I'm not looking to go that large on the deck, maybe 48 at most. I'd still like to be able to get through fences. How do feel about gravely standers?
What are the cons..... I have been doing research on this and fount that price is very high and maintenance cost ( Transmission) is triple compare to walk behind...what are your thoughts on this
I have almost 1,000 hours and only changed a deck belt. Yes, walk behinds have less maintenance and cheaper parts... But they also are not as productive. Only in certain situations. It's all in how well you use and take care of your equipment and dealer support.
I'm not sure about a stand on I just bought a grandstand for $550 yesterday and spent 2 hours today learning how to operate it and so far I hate it but we'll see with more practice.
You get to be 50 years old,the sit down beats your body alot worse with daily use VS standing.Alot safer and hold hills better, never go back to a sit down here
To me it doesn't justify spending all that extra money. Ok, you can tote it around on a trailer better. You not cutting grass on a trailer. You cutting grass on a lawn. So once you put the platform down to stand on, you not saving much space in comparison to your conventional zero turn. The weed wacker will do the rest. Hell the deck doesn't change. It's the widest thing on the mower. Same size as the deck on a seated zero turn. As far as jumping off and on, yeah that is a nice convenience. But realistically, how many times are you actually jumping off your seated zero turn??? Lol, dude talking about if he needs to jump off. Dude what yards you cutting where you need to jump off of that thing?? Lol. Yards with 2ft pot holes in them?? Lol. I turn down yards I have to cut that have all kinds of debris, sticks etc. And if a yard has a couple of sticks or whatever, I usually walk the yard first anyway before I even start. It cost you a little time. No money! Now if you are a lawn business that have 4 men on a truck and need to squeeze two zero turn mowers on a trailer or a truck. Now I get you buying stand on mowers. That make sense. I'm in Louisiana and all the box truck lawn service companies I see rolling around with seated mowers. Maybe it's more favorable in other states. All that other mumbo jumbo talk is you just justifying your preference of purchase. Selling salt to a snail. I still enjoyed the video though👍
Every machine has it's purpose for sure. Don't agree with the poor man thing though... They sure aren't cheap! 🤣 And I sure do make a lot of money on them! 🤑 Thanks for watching!

I have almost 1,000 hours and only changed a deck belt. Yes, walk behinds have less maintenance and cheaper parts... But they also are not as productive. Only in certain situations. It's all in how well you use and take care of your equipment and dealer support.
TRACTION!!!!!! #1.
How tall are you? You don't have to bend at all I don't wanna hurt my back bending
6 ft
Valid point. Some brands stand between the wheels instead of over, which makes your lower.
So much easier on your back. No back pain on stand on mowers.
I'm not sure about a stand on I just bought a grandstand for $550 yesterday and spent 2 hours today learning how to operate it and so far I hate it but we'll see with more practice.
That's how I felt about sit down units... It's just a learning curve and what you're use to.
Working on a stand on is a nightmare. Everything is so compacted into a tight space. The area behind the motor is tight to get to.
That's a good point
Also those 2 mowers in the video the footprint is the same only a couple inches off lol
Every inch matters when you're trying to fit the most in your trailer, lol 👍
@@LawnCareRookie not on 6.5 x 16 tandem 😆 room to spare
Tree branches are a problem if you are tall on a stander
For sure
The wright zk is the best stand on by far. Speed, reliability , height and cut quality.
Wright
Having a backpack blower on you while using a mower is not safe alot can go wrong there's not need to try to do two things at once
Thanks for watching
Its fine. Anybody can manage it if they even remotely have a clue what they are doing in the lawn care business
You all realize it's just a old school walk behind with no sulky lol
Yup, that's where they got the idea 👍
Thanks for watching
Seems like poor man's rider. I'll stick to riders, much better investment. They have large vac system we cant live with out.
Every machine has it's purpose for sure. Don't agree with the poor man thing though... They sure aren't cheap! 🤣 And I sure do make a lot of money on them! 🤑
Thanks for watching!
And stand on mowers are cheaper to buy
Shure the worst mower you can buy
What's the worst mower?? Toro? Stand on mower?
I cant stand mowing the lawn.....
Lol, I see what you did there...
I don't get it. Just dumb
What is?
@LawnCareRookie standing up. Just don't get it. Makes no sense. Just my opinion. You like it. Your business Goodluck.
Are there stand on mowers that pick up the yard clippings ?
Yes. You can put a bag on the side that's made for your mower of some have a powered bagging system, like the Toro Grandstand.
