The Grey Knight also have the option of mind wiping you. But that ability is mostly used because Imperial citizens aren't allowed to know that the Grey Knights exist.
I may be wrong, but iirc, that doesn't necessarily remove the vulnerability of their exposure to raw chaos. Like you might wipe out the conscious memories of it, but they've still permanently popped up on the chaos radar as a weak spot in reality as long as they live. Like they're potentially now more vulnerable to being lead astray through just their thoughts and feelings, back into such a risk of one day just randomly having a minor warp spawn explode out of them and rip open a portal for their bigger, badder buddies. It's the whole thing of why the Inquisition's motto is technically true; whether it comes to genestealers or unregistered psykers, they could actually be innocent in conscience and intent yet unfortunately still be used by these forces.
Bricky actually undersells the Custodies a fair bit here. He says that they could probably beat 3 space marines. While this is true, he gives the impression that it would actually be a fight, it would be a slaughter. If i remember correctly there was a story where one custodian faced off with 10 space marines and killed 8 before the remaining 2 could even react. Each and every custodian is a one man army and if they consider you a threat to their emperor they do not care who you are, you are going down.
We also had stories where one World Eater (a chaos space marine) impaled a Custodes with his fist and one where a bunch of Space Elves Clowns massacred Custodes without a fight, so yeah. The canonical veracity of those stories are .."inconsistent".
I mean it IS still extreme either way but it definitely makes it go from "that's insane why would you ever do such a thing?" to "jesus okay that's still fucked but I get it" Honestly I think it would take a decent chunk of doin' but the Imperium could 100% come up with a better way to ensure guardsmen aren't a problem other than "fuck it lets just use our bullets" if they at all cared about the people IN the Imperium beyond their pros and cons as lube for industry and war lol. But alas.....they really REALLY don't so fuck it we have plenty of guardsmen left in the pantry just throw those out is indeed the game plan
@@Pragabond well, from a practical point, you have to think in statistics when you apply a solution to a problem on the 40k scale as the imperium. the bullet solution is just magnitudes safer wit hthe poppulation/sample size you are working with, to the point that not doing it is a majour threat
@@gampie13 It's also weirdly something that could theoretically be done, but it didn't in large part because some of the people capable of potentially coordinating such a thing (like Guilliman) were out of the picture for the entirety of the timescale it probably would take. And even though he's back, now they've lost all that ground in technology, maxed out their superstitution, and have such redundant and insanely inefficient bureaucracy that an entire planet could starve because some overworked administratum scribe died and some paperwork got misplaced in replacing them, and things are so poorly traced that nobody would really be able to figure out what happened (or even necessarily know) it happened for like, a decade or more. Like they have seemingly infinite people to throw away in the guard, but each scribe has to do all the filing and stamping and signing for hundreds of worlds's worth of red tape until they finally die from the amount of stimulants and stress they've been given for like 200 years. 😅
Well the custodies are old. I believe a lot of them have been around since the Emperor was “alive” which is over 10,000 years ago. They do reach a point that I can’t remember if it’s age or wound based where they become spies essentially.
They were made during the great crusade using the emperor's own gene seed. That's the reason they don't trust the space Marines because they were made of the primarchs, who showed they can fall
@@conquest4211 Do the Aquilan Shield operate as Custodes in their prime? It wouldn't surprise me if that slight dip below peak reaction time would still be more than enough to protect some rando out in the Imperium. Mysteriously important rando or not, they're still not Emps, so I would normally expect the ones in their prime would stay on Terra, and "slightly older" ones could be sent out on the AS's type of missions, but I just don't know much about the sub-factions except for what the AS roughly does.
If y'all want to learn a little more about some of the characters in 40k, Bricky has another channel where he teaches one of his friends DK, about the world of 40k. It's called Adeptus Ridiculous. Glad y'all are enjoying learning how crazy the world of 40k is 😂
Dude is just trying to stay relevant so he keeps getting cast in roles.....he was the only half decent thing about the Witcher series and they fucking buuuutchered it....I've seen better casting and better costumes in low budget porno than i did in the Witcher series....the exception being Henry....it's like the blew the whole casting and costume budget on him
@@Shifty51991 With this much passion and lack of punctuation, I'm sure you could give acting a shot. All you have to do is go to whoever directed the Witcher series and straight up demand that _you_ be the replacement for Cavill because you know in your heart that you can pull it off better than he can, and don't take their no for an answer.
You’re thinking of Dreadnoughts when talking about being in a “sac”; a sarcophagus. Imperial Knights are piloted by a person who sits on a throne in the machine. They are knighted before taking the seat. They do have memories of their ancestors who piloted them before.
@@c0nn3 I think the larger classes of knights are big enough to fit, like the Dominus or Acastus classes. Those giant knights generally need older and more experienced pilots anyways, so it'd be worth the effort to exchange the cockpit throne for a liquid tank that could accommodate a wounded hero.
A famous pilot who was permanently sealed within a life support tank with fluids, is Princeps Majoris Zarha Mancion, from Helsreach (great novel and theres an excellent fan made movie on youtube). She was the main pilot of Stormherald, an Imperator class titan. Idk how tall it was, but it had an entire Citadel on it's shoulders, so pretty dang big.
If I remember correctly, the Imperial Knight mechs are like the terminator armor: repurposed for combat from what was essentially utility equipment from the Dark Age. They were snatched up and used like war gear for ages when many of the worlds descended into feudalism when cut off for millennia by the warp upheaval. They only need one pilot, but the machine spirits of them are so old and temperamental from the imprints of pilots going all the way back to at least a while after the turn to feudalism that it's more likely a wounded pilot would want to be put in a Dreadnought than be permanently attached to that kind of internal bickering for eternity.
a thing on the sister "strong mental armor" to make this more clear you have to know what the warp realy is. the warp is the realm that is permeated by all thoughts, emotions, feelings and souls of the deceased of every sentient life form in the universe. every of those things go from the material realm to the warp and in return the warp is present in all those things for everybody. most of the time no one can feel the connection exept for psychers, but when chaos start its bullshit, every one can fall victim to the corruption of chaos. the mental armor of the sisters is basicaly a way to blind themeselves from this corruption by closing their mind to everything but their faith and objective. it's like pluging their ears yelling LALALALA CAN'T EAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF THE EMPEROR LALALALA!!
At a certain point Custodes stop aging. Even though Bricky's description of them is pretty basic, he did get it right in saying they're near-immortal. They're abilities are given to them not through implantation of extra organs and genetic material. They're literally changed on the genetic, at times the atomic level, through some combination of science and warpcraft. All of this are done when Custodes are chosen as infants.
Another Xcom-like you might like is WH40k: Mechanicus. You play as the AdMechs exploring a Necron tomb and have to fight them as they wake up from you disturbing them. Admittedly i didn't make it very far before starting other games, but from what i played, the gameplay seems fun and the soundtrack is phenomenal
Info on the mechanicus: Before shit got whack, mars was a nice, almost terraformed world that, due to civil nuclear war, forced the inhabitants to live underground complexes, ala vaults in fallout. The engineers of these complexes that kept things running grew to a higher social status and began to run things in general. Then things started going wrong with their machines (probably because the Emperor buried an alien robot dragon in mars called a C'tan, you'll learn more later) so in an act of desperation they would pray or do rituals to make the machines work, lest they die. It works, or at least looks like it works, and so this led to a buncha rituals and prayers to form, and then eventually the religion itself to form where said engineers our now the holy priests as well. One of the main tenets of this new religion is that knowledge is sacred and that ALL of said knowledge already exists in the universe somewhere. The 2nd thing is that since knowledge is so sacred, anything that would contradict the already existing knowledge (blueprints for machines as an example) is tech heresy. "You built your gun with 2 barrels instead of 3? That contradicts the blueprint! Die Tech Heretic!" So the only way for these machine boys to improve tech, is to hopefully scavenge ancient human empire ruins and find an STC (blueprint/item crafter robot) or plunder alien tech IF that alien tech was made the proper way. This distinction of whether alien tech is good has led to many debate among the mechanicus and fights break out sometimes. A lot of info I know, and it's really vague and doesn't cover EVERYTHING, just a quick blurb of why they're so weird. P.S. The Omnisiah (probs the dragon), the Emperor, and the machine spirit (your gun's soul basically) is what they worship. Imagine the catholic holy trinity.
The Void Dragon being the machine god theory is impossible for all prayers go to the warp and the warp a d the c'tan are anathema to each other, like oil and water they don't mix. The Mechanics Holy Trinity is formed from the Machine God (which at this point is an actual minor god/aspect of the Emperor's divinity) the Omnissiah (the Machine God's avatar, which they believe to be the Emperor) and the Motive Force (the spark of Life. Also the rituals they make to appease the machine spirits are not just for dogma but they are actually useful for machine spirits are kinda sorta in between rudimentary AI and warp entities
@@BigBex I thought the theory was that the void dragon started all the shanningans which led to the prayers which led to the religion which in turn led to the machine spirits and omnisiah being a thing? The dragon doesn't gain anything, but it started the chain of events. (Well the big emps did, but ya'know)
Don’t forget that the machine god is what the mechanicus worships. The see the emperor as the Omnissiah (the messiah omni), basically the avatar of their machine god. A biological perfection of humanity.
So the Adeptus Mechanicus in current lore believe in the trinity of the Omnissiah. The three parts of that is the Omnissiah (think God in Christianity), the Emperor (Jesus), and the Motive Force (Holy Ghost). The Motive Force is what gives the machinery life from the Omnissiah, and the Emperor is basically the Omnissiah in human form. The Emperor came to Mars and struck a deal with them, he told them that if they joined the Imperium, they could still have their beliefs, but they didn’t trust him. He told them that he was a part of the Omnissiah (sort of tricking them, but it’s vague of his intentions) and to prove it, bring him machinery they had no idea how to get running again, or needed fixing, that they couldn’t fix. He literally just touched the machines he was brought, and they were magically fixed and ran with no issues. That was the moment they believed him to be the Omnissiah made manifest. They joined the Imperium.
On the grey knights, there was a dude that ascended to becoming a daemon prince, and the grey knights stopped everything they were doing in the warp, and hunted this dude down and merked him. The chaos gods decided it would be fun to keep reviving him and watch him get killed, they fought him for 12 years straight, and killed him 100s of times, on dozens of planets. And on the 1000th kill, the gods of chaos finally had enough, and let him die for good. Grey knights don't play.
The thing with the adeptus mechanicus with the empreror is. A lot of them think the emperor IS the Omnissiah or at least is close to it. The reason he could strike a deal with them is because when he went on mars, he touched a broken machine that de mechanicus engineers couldn't fix, and it just worked so they think that he was able to convince the machine spirit with a mere touch when they need to pray
To be clear, competitively its only 1v1, if its a casual / narrative campaign you can do a 4 person free for all but it might last like 6-7 hours depending on what armies are on the table and if people are just castling up the whole game.
I think a good explanation for the Imperial Knight’s is think of house stark like the whole of it plus some retainers in the walker controlling it. And for the sister the mutation with the blank gene think of it has like someone born with red hair or being an albino
The pariah Gene wasn't actually a natural occurrence. It was placed in the genepool by the necrons while humanity were still monkeys as a way to beat the warp. Unfortunately the plan didn't work as the bio-transference wasn't too kind to the human mind which led to pariah necrons being pretty braindead so they had to stop their testing on them but they couldn't remove the gene from the gene pool due to it being WAY too late to do so. So it was basically a win for the Imperium and it didn't really help the necrons at all.
AdMechs have different believes. Some think that the Omnissiah and the Emperor are two different beings. Some think that the Emperor is like a physical manifestation of the Omnissiah, kinda like Jesus is the human form of God. Some think they are one and the same. Actually some AdMechs directly worship the Emperor. You see AdMechs not only do all the production, but all the science as well, and there are guys who do biology, they believe that living organisms are just biological machines (which is right, but it's the machines that are like us, not the other way around). And they believe that the Emperor is the perfect human, the perfect biological machine
You can have multiple people playing, we used to do 2v2 a lot. Or 1 vs 3 in a horde mode setting, where we had to defend with limited points against endless Tyranids for example. We also did 4 player free for all, king of the hill.
(Most of this is copy pasta from google cause im lazy) Officially, the Cult Mechanicus maintains that the Emperor is the physical manifestation of the Machine God (the Omnissiah) and part of a trinity that also includes the Machine God and the Motive Force, the deity that gives all life and motion its continued existence. The stave off daemon thing just means its near impossible to corrupt them. And those paper things are Purity seals. A Purity Seal takes the form of prayers or litanies inscribed onto paper and then affixed to the Space Marine armour with red or black wax usually then coated with protective sealants or for more permanence electrum casings. Often it is responsibility of the Chapter's serfs to affix purity seals. As for the Grey Knights all im going to say is look up the Months of Shame....Majorkill has a fun vid about it ;) Imperial Knights are manned almost exactly like Pacific Rim but the Machine CAN take over....it does have a mind of it's own if you will. I highly recommend the Valdor book he is more or less the "Primarch" of the Custodes (Not actually a Primarch but the leader of the Custodes and some argue as strong as a Primarch)
Every faction has several characters my favourites coming from the inquisition and assassins. And there are no idiots in this community as I have been playing since 2nd edition and even now I am still learning. Also the knights are various sizes there is one captain basically which is the pilot they are essentially one person in a mind meld type of way but there is also a team and these knights come from a Nobel family. And in regards the table top u play on a 6foot by 4foot , points can be as low as 500 or as high as you want there is a one vs one but you can have as many as you want I have played a 4way free fall.
I think some Mechanicus have thought that the Emperor is the Omnissiah, but I think he technically isn't... There's also a thing with a dragon that the Emperor hid on Mars, which might be it... I forget the exact details... I believe Imperial knights are piloted by one person normally... Titans, which he doesn't really mention in this video, do normally have a team... I think all of the piloting crew, normally 3 people I think, are plugged into the machine, with wires plugged into their neck or something... Typically they are just sitting in seats, I think, but sometimes if the lead pilot gets hurt enough, they might put them in some sort of special tank of fluid... I think it's normally only the lead they do it with, because they usually have a better connection with the machine, so they're worth keeping around more than the other two pilots... Although there are usually lots of other people working in the Titan too... Soldiers of some sort, to stop people invading the insides of the machine... Techpriests to maintain stuff etc... I don't think Imperial Knights have any extra crew, but I may be wrong. The tabletop is pretty flexible... Standard battles are usually 1v1, but you can have 2v2, 1v1v1v1 or even more.... Though the more people, pssibly the more complicated moving everything around could be and you might need a big table or whatever lol. There was like an expansion or supplemental set of rules for extremely large battles, but many can create custom rules for whatever they want to do... Some run campaigns... Tournaments tend to be a bit more strict though, naturally.
As I have heared the Omnissiah is actually a C'tan in stasis cell on Mars - who actually powers the vehicles and guns created by Adeptus Mechanicus... therefore that they prey to it actually works and necessary.
remember the adeptus custodes are very very old - they were the emperors bodyguard unit handmade by him before the Great Crusade so in "modern times" of 40k they are over 10 thousand years old as i dont think anyone other then the emperor knows the whole process to grow them anymore - looking damn good for their age still thou XD
The thing about machine spirits... is that with the way the Warp works (where what you think effects the warp, and then the warp in turn effects the real world) in a roundabout way belief in machine spirits make machine spirits a thing. Its kinda why the Imperium makes its ships look like gothic cathedrals, people belief that the shape helps protect it during warp travel, and to an extent it does - because enough people believe it. In one way, a machine spirit can be a hassle, in the other hand, a machine spirit can ensure something keeps on running long after it should have broken down due to age or strain.
39:00 yeah, that's mainly it. 40k is so big. like, massive in scale. to understand it is really hard. We as fans know this, so we are so welcoming, cause we know it's a lot to take in. it can be pretty overwhelming with ALL the stuff going on. So, we try to ease new people into it. many of us love new comers. hence, why many of us are so enthusiastic about people coming into the hobby and are willing to explain everything and answer questions. however, I won't deny that we have toxic fans and many extreme gatekeepers. no doubt that happens. there are also conflicts in the fandom on things. but most of us tend to be welcoming and willing to discuss about stuff.
The Emperor is the Omnissiah, the Machine God is who they worship. It's a 40k version of the Holy Trinity. Machine God= Father Omnissiah = Jesus Motive Force = Holy Spirit
the pilot in a mech that feels the same pain as the "mech" does, was used in the Evangelion anime series.. Thats as early as i can think of it being originally used but im sure its not the 1st time
nah the omnissiah is a being called the void dragon and slight correction with Imperial knights, its one guy who controls the knight via a throne located in the head. what you guys are thinking of is the Legio titanicus with encompasses warhound titan's, warlord titans and Imperator(Emperor class titans) which require a full crew of usually 1-4 tech adepts and a princeps which is the pilot in the sack of ambiotic fluid that is pretty much blended with the spirit of the titan. Scale wise imperial knights and warhound titans are pretty much the same size of a 5-10 story apartment building, warlord titan being that of prolly a 25-30 floor building and the emperor class being the biggest ones varies in height 150 metres, around 500 feet ish. On table top sizes in terms of scale the emperor class titan are prolly around 6-7 feet tall but always have to make them yourselves as GW does not have any kits for emperor class
On imperial knights they are solo piloted as they are small enough for one person it's titans that have multiple people running them the smallest titans warhounds have 5 human crew and up to 12 if you includ things like servo skulls and servitors go into rever and warlord class and your getting into modern day battle ship size crew
Reavers and warlords don't have that big of crews. Maybe 10-15 actual humans and tech-priests for a warlord titan. You'd have the various servitor clades, most of whom are jacked into the titan to use their collected brain power to help run the various auto-repair functions of the titan. The bridge crew are your princeps and moderatii (one princeps directly interfacing with the god engine, and several moderatii helping to moniter systems and run targeting solutions). Then you have a few tech priests and enginseers scattered about, with at least one monitering the reactor at all times.
There's a sister of battle fell to chaos, if I remember correctly she likes to go around killing battle sisters , I would like to recommend a movie, event horizon, they took a lot of inspiration from warhammer 40k, you could consider it a prequel to warhammer 40k, when humans experience "a certain kind of space travel
Yeah, you're talking anbout Ephrael Stern. She didn't fall to Chaos. If I remember what I read of Daemonifuge where she was first introduced, Stern is a sort of conduit to a lost convent of Battle Sisters that had been studying an imprisoned daemon. Said daemon escaped and the sisters poured their faith and knowledge into Stern before dying. So, technically Stern carries within her mind some of the secrets of the Warp and she can call on some if it.
The God that the Mechanicus worship is believed to have three forms, The Machine God, The Omnissia, and the Motive force. The Omnissia is believed to be the physical/mortal avatar of the Machine God who the Mechanicus believe the Emperor is. So in a round about way the do worship the Emperor
So the thing about the machine spirits and the Omnissiah is that, in a weird way, they ARE real. For example if you read the Night Lord's trilogy of books, they talk a lot about Talos (a Chaos Warrior in the Night Lords Legion and essentially a Prophet) being able to feel and sense the machine spirit within his armor when it is under stress or desperately wants to destroy something, and will keep the armor functioning just long enough to kill the target before failing. Multiple examples of that in different things throughout the books, so it seems like to me the Mechanicus DO actually have some validity in what they believe, since its also been implied that the machine spirits can ALSO be corrupted by Chaos, maybe? Edit: And as far as the sisters go, the mental fortitude is to the point that I'm pretty sure out of ALL of the Sisters of Battle, only ONE turned to Chaos. Other than that one person, not a single one has turned traitor or been possessed. Ever.
If you think that the Adeptus Mechanicus (also called AdMech for shorts) is weird and makes no sens, keep this in mind. WE ALL have at one point in our lives "begged" or "prayed" to a MAchine... When your car does some concerning noises or doesn't run as it should, and you're like "Come on baby don't let me down like that, hang on!" Or when you PC/Console act up and you're like "Oh come on, not now don't do this to me"... YOU PRAYED to the "Machine Spirit"... Now imagien this kinda behavior after a 10.000 years period of time, where everything went to shit and your whole world fell into a new Age of Darkness, where schematics and rational methods where lost due to wars and cataclysmes. The only way the "Knowlegde" was preserved during these Trying times was when they where codified and ritualised. If these procedures and methods are made like an oral tradition that is passed through generations, you basicaly safekeep it from being forgotten. If something is turned Holy and Saint, then there is less chances for anyone to forget it and for it to be lost. The "Prayers" of the AdMech "works" and makes "sens", the issue is that everything became entangled in feverish Zealotery and Ostentatiousness. A little story i like to tell on the matter. I play Space Engineers, a voxel based building/survival game in Space. The game was for a very long time in Alpha and then open Beta testing (from 2014 to 2018) and off course bugs and stuff would happen. One of such was called "Klang/Clang" by the playerbase... See SE's engine is imitating Newton's laws of Gravity and physics, but sometimes there is so much happening that the Physics engine of the game struggles and stuff happens... Specially with complex and moving parts on large ships that players built. The results would then be catastrophic failures that tore your contraptions apart with bits and scraps flying everywhere in a deep booming sound of scrapping/banging metal...a CLANG if you will... And so this phenomenon was called "Getting Clanged" or "Pissing off Clang" It even became an inside Joke for the community and the Devs alike. Each time someone made a complex contraption players would be like "be carefull, you're gonna piss off Clang" and when shits hit the fan "Ah you have angered Clang and now you pay the price" It is to a point where this Knowledge of Clang, spread from the old player to the new players through the years. Each and everytime something went wrong it was cause you Insulted Clang with your contraption. So...a "religion" or "Belief" in a "Machine Intradimensional Entity" was born and was then passed down from "generation" of players to the next "generation"... And to this day the Term Clang is still used, even tho the physics engine as been fixed and it became rare that something went wrong. There's even 2 "Churches" of Clang, 2 different believes, on one side the ones that call's it Clang and on the other the ones that calls it Klang, and the arguments between the 2 can be heated... When you think about this..., suddenly the AdMech doesn't appear so crazy and weird...
The Emperor and the Onmissiah thing is kind of more how they work together. Jist being the Mechanicus think the Emperor is the Omnissiah and the Imperium think he's their god so you can kind of say they worship the same god just in different ways. The Emperor struck a deal with Mars and let them do them really because they were too big to crush easily. But it creates a situation where the Mechanicus isn't really part of the Imperium. It's more of a sovereign nation with strong ties to the Imperium. Which causes a lot of political problems. The Custodes are more active than you would think. not all of the 10,000 are guarding the throne room and they do train a lot. They even go as far as release extremely dangerous threats in the Imperial Palace just to hunt them down (chaos champions, powerful daemons, xenos witches ect. anything that's a legitimate threat) On top of that, they play wargames where 1 Custodes acts as an assassin and tries to plan and execute an assassination of the Emperor. However, I think Bricky was talking tabletop with how strong Custodes are. In one book 1 squad of about 10 I think, held off an entire Tyranid swarm by themselves which ended up including a Swarm Lord so pretty much a full army was beaten by 10 men. Now 40K isn't consistent, there are other books where a company is a legitimate threat to 1 Custodes but if a Custodes wins a 50 v 1 fight against space marines or takes out a guard regiment solo there is lore precedence for that actually happening.
Ah, Mechanicus theology, a strange thing at best. So the Cult Mechanicus worships a trinity: 1) the Deus Mechanicus that permates all machines, manifesting as, or giving life to (theoogy!), the Machine Spirits that inhabit all machines 2) the Omnissiah, the phiysical manifestation of the Machine God. Officially the Emperor, might actually be the Void Dragon, but... Theology! 3) the Motive Force, that which give all life and motion its continued existence. Absolutely not electricity, though easily confused for such due to theology(!)
When people say there are normal people in 40K, they meant physically, physiologically, & biologically. We do not mean morals here. Also the The Imperial Guard are literal regular people, too. Don't forget them.
The Adeptus Mechanicus are... complicated to understand. Here is a rundown to your very valid questions. (not guaranteeing for accuracy because Games Workshop just loves to retcon stuff and nothing makes sense anyways). - AdMech prays to the Maschine God, and the Omnisiah is the Prophet of said God (Like Allah and Muhammed, or God and Jesus). Back when the Emperor was alive, he wanted all religion gone and would have happily crushed their religious nonsense, but Mars would have been a nightmare to conquer so he let it slide. Nowaday, with the Emperor seen as a god, the Church and AdMech agreed that their "Omnisiah" is the Emperor, so *technically* by praying to the Omnisiah to put in a good word to the Machine God, it is not fully heresy. - It is unclear how much of their religious nonsense actually does anything to the machines. It is most likely a mixture of the following: 1.) Part of the mystical rites are just... glorified maintainance routine work ("thou shallst now annoint each sacred cog with the oil of purity" aka make sure your moving parts are well lubricated or your machine goes kaputt.). This is because the first "Tech Priests" were just normal maintainance engineers that kept the mars colonies from dying in isolation for thousands of years, and over time their scientific knowledge mixed with superstition of the next generation's inability to understand high-level engineering during the apocalypse. 2.) Way back when humanity was super OP and in space, they had artificial intelligences that were so smart and powerful that they rebelled and almost destroyed mankind (leading to the apocalypse mentioned above). Now humanity is super anti-AI and AdMech itself sees innovation and scientific advancement as heresy. But some of the... older technology (especially the Imperium's most powerful mega-warmachines and ships) are... surprisingly smart and show signs of personality now and then. You cant just *get rid* of your most powerful weapons so that self-thinking part of the Titan? Clearly a magical machine spirit, not an AI, no sir. No heresy here at all. In case you haven't noticed: AdMech are absolute hypocrites. 3.) Inside of Mars are the broken pieces of the "Void Dragon" which is some eldrich super-op being of energy. Its presence makes machines and electronics go haywire, so the Machine God itself might have originated just from this thing causing problems to Mars that the engineers could not explain. By now, with how faith and psychic powers work in 40K, the concept of a Machine God might be believed in by enough people that praying to it has actual effects. - The Dunestrider Walkers... oh boy. Yes, the only person who could make them and understood how they worked died. They are powered by a perpetual motion machine somehow, so the movement of their legs generates more energy than moving their legs costs -defying all known laws of physics. So as long as they move, they are powered and ready to go. Once they stop, AdMech fears that they will never move again because them moving around is how you charge them. So they are stored on ever-running treadmills until needed.
26:12 I think your confusing knights with titans.... knights are piloted by single pilots and while they do hook their brains to the machine it’s not a permanent thing..... also knights are owned by individual noble families, but the Titans... I’m not sure who owns them actually... probably the same as the knights. .....Titans however make the knights looks like ants.... they’re so big they take a teams of people to control. Depending on the owning faction of these Titans (the mechanicus or noble) they’ll be able to get up and exit the Titan, they can be surgically implanted into the Titan, or they permanently are entombed in the Titan in s giant bakta tank. Also not to be confused with dreadnaughts which are space marines so badly wounded they must either be put down or given another chance to serve the emperor as a dreadnaught.... forever entombed in it... LITERALLY... They’re basically dedicated corpses whos brains still function and are kept alive by the dreadnaught.... they put them to sleep for millennia on end and only wake them up when they’re truly needed,
PRAYING TO MAKE GUNS WORK: No it actually works better from praying and in some cases things are made to work by praying, Belief is very powerful in 40k because the Warp is connected to belief, the very concept itself. Orks for instance , their technology works ...purely because enough of them believe it to work, and Eldar and Humans have that but to a lesser extent, its far more focused in Eldar and Humanity in 40k,but less direct and manifests more in the Warp than directly in the Material world like the Orks do it's hard to explain, but all you need to know is beings with Souls, (so most things, but not all) their beliefs manifest in the warp, and this has an effect on the real world that way. Also Psykers and warp powers have a very indirect but hugely powerful impact on the material world in 40k too, so when you have trillions of beings believing the same thing...it can create Gods, and lesser supernatural creatures. So yes , to some extent the horrors of the warp, including the Chaos Gods and demons, are a product of the likes of Humanity and the Eldar etc The belief in the Emperor as a God has to some extent , because of the amount of people that believe it and the power of the Emperor , has made the Emperor a Warp God. So when they pray to make it work...that's literal AND figurative at the same time. The way 40k works , is complex, but when you get a handle on it it actually makes sense/follows a logic
They don't need to pray to their guns for them to work, however, Astartes in 40k are very religious, and so they pray to their tools of war, they bless them etc, in 30k, the Horus Hersey era, religion is outright refused and known to be fake, and they just take real good care of their tools, most of the legions obsessed over making sure their equipment was clean, their paint fresh etc, some of the legions didn't care for keeping the paint fresh With the tabletop game, generally you field 2-3 Imperial Knights and a few infantry/officers, depending on the amount of points you're playing at, they have a ton of health and they hit a lot and they hit fucking hard, there are different Knight sizes, the Warlord Titan is the biggest in existence in 40k, however, in 30k/Horus Hersey era, there were MUCH bigger ones like the Dies Irae, for comparison, Titans/Knights today have two arm guns and usually two shoulder weapons, the Dies Irae had an entire building on it's shoulders that housed 10-20 artillery guns, as well as have two arm weapons, sometimes a chest weapon, and sometimes guns on the legs, I believe that was piloted by a 3 man crew plus maintenance crew, you have two pilots at the rank of Princeps, and a head officer who would run comms and run overall field strategy while the other two pilots did movement and weapons You can also totally do more than 1v1 in the table top, you can play with as many people as you have space, there is a current game running or has already finished that was a total of like 130k points, for perspective, the most common game run is 1k points and that's usually like 3 squads of 10, maybe a couple tanks and a few heavy models
Again Bricky gets this somewhat wrong. Custodes don't have psyker abilites to fight other psykers and daemons. Custodes do have a sort of bond and/or link to the God-Emperor himself that sort of acts like a passive defense against warp-based attacks and creatures. Not on the same level as the Sisters of Silence, but enough that they can get in close and destroy the target.
@@chaosXP3RT They're actually better at killing daemons than Space Marines or even Sororitas. They're just not on the same level as Grey Knights, Sisters of Silence or Culexas assassins.
Channels I would recommend for lore: 1. Luetin09. Loremaster extraordinaire. Does in-depth/detailed videos on a variety of subjects within 40k. Often hour long plus videos. Very pleasant voice, some people have remarked they use him to paint miniatures to or falling asleep to. He makes sure when to point out if something is more considered canon by the writers vs his own or others speculation. Much of 40k is deliberately vague. 2. Baldermort. More middle of the road in turns of lore expertise, which he admits as much, but his channel is still fantastic nonetheless. His videos often feature his own creative stories to accompany the lore in question. They are awesome. His “Imperial Fists” video, 3hrs+ long, is a masterpiece imo. Fantastic gritty voice that really suits the 40k verse. His passion for 40k is really obvious. 3. Majorkill. More short attention-span/ADHD and/or limited time friendly videos, usually about 15-25 minutes max. The most trollish/humorous of the recommended channels except for maybe Adeptus Ridiculous(Bricky). Australian. 4. Oculus Imperia. Another loremaster, presents his videos as if he were an in-universe historian attempting to document actual history without being hunted down by the Inquisition. Nice voice as well. 5. Adeptus Ridiculous(Bricky’s 40k podcast/UA-cam channel). More the average mans lore channel. Just the kind of stuff you’d listen to while having a drink with a friend. Very accessible. 6. The Amber King. Very good production value. Does in-depth character analysis of various characters in 40k. Pretty sure he hires voice actors or something. Channel(s) to avoid: 1. Arch. History of anti-semitism, racism, sexism, and defending of pedophile admins in his videos/discord server. He’s gotten rid of the most problematic videos or at least cut them up better and re-uploaded them, but whatever. He’s Norwegian or Swedish or something, but he puts on a faux British accent, which sounds ridiculous. Frankly, I and many others, consider his voice to be incredibly grating. He has a history of unnecessarily extending his video(s) [series], repeating himself, stating his own headcanon as fact. Many people refuse to give him up or continue to recommend him because he was one of, if not the first, major lore channel for 40k, so he was the first channel to get a lot of people into 40k. There are much better options now.
I wouldn't say the fandom is completely welcoming. You must remember that as as fandom grow, eventually there will arrive at a level of toxicity too and Warhammer fandom arrive to this truning point years ago . They range from gatekeeper to change resistance to even far worse: real life bigots who believe the Imperium "values " of xenophobia, racial purity, religious zealotry and authoritative fascism is something that is to be emulated in real life (instead of a parody and satire of the setting) . Remember that literal Neo-Nazi that won the Warhammer tournament? Toxicity is an eventuality with every fandom once they reach a certain critical mass. With Warhammer 40K, the setting tend to attracts the worst type of toxic people due to its Imperial grim darkness.
I should bring up. Contrary to what is said here and in the comments. It’s not actually really entirely clear what the Omnissiah is, or how belief in it works. For instance, the emperor. Some tech priests see the Emperor as the embodiment of the machine spirit and genuinely worship him as such. Some see him as more of an prophet or an emissary, but not as the Omnissiah itself. And some don’t actually believe in the emperor, or think he has anything to do with the omnissiah or machine spirit, but they play along for the imperium. And all of these are equally correct interpretations, which is to say we have no idea which one is right. Similarly, the machine spirit. Is it some kind of AI in the machines that you have to honor? Is it genuine spirits of the warp that must be honored lest they be angered? Is it not real, and the rights to just honor them are just standard maintenance procedures with incense added at every step? Is it the weird dragon inside mars? Is it something else entirely? Are the machine spirit and omnissiah different things? We don’t actually know. It’s never properly specified, and the few awnsers we get vary and contradict each other a good bit. In truth, the awnser is that it’s whatever you think is most interesting.
It's the whole thing of why the Inquisition's motto is technically true; whether it comes to genestealers or unregistered psykers, they could actually be innocent in conscience and intent yet unfortunately still be used by these forces.
a little disclaimer about the powerlevel : guarss man< skiitari
Bricky actually undersells the Custodies a fair bit here. He says that they could probably beat 3 space marines. While this is true, he gives the impression that it would actually be a fight, it would be a slaughter. If i remember correctly there was a story where one custodian faced off with 10 space marines and killed 8 before the remaining 2 could even react.
Each and every custodian is a one man army and if they consider you a threat to their emperor they do not care who you are, you are going down.
One Custodes against 3 Space Marines is like a flamethrower against three puppies
There is also a story of 8 space marines killing 3 Custodes. Their power is swingy.
@@tiarnanhart4717 as with everything in 40k its all down to the whim of the author, nothing is set in stone.
We also had stories where one World Eater (a chaos space marine) impaled a Custodes with his fist and one where a bunch of Space Elves Clowns massacred Custodes without a fight, so yeah. The canonical veracity of those stories are .."inconsistent".
😂😧🦀
I know the scorched earth policy seems extreme but letting one of those guardsmen live could wipe out a planet.
I mean it IS still extreme either way but it definitely makes it go from
"that's insane why would you ever do such a thing?" to "jesus okay that's still fucked but I get it"
Honestly I think it would take a decent chunk of doin' but the Imperium could 100% come up with a better way to ensure guardsmen aren't a problem other than "fuck it lets just use our bullets" if they at all cared about the people IN the Imperium beyond their pros and cons as lube for industry and war lol.
I think they are older.
Its the old ones that no longer have god-like reaction.
Glad y'all are enjoying learning how crazy the world of 40k is 😂
Actually just started that podcast. Great way on making it bite size, understandable and enjoyable
Henry Cavill, you know, Superman, is a massive Warhammer 40K nerd and mains Adeptus Custodes....because of course he does.

With this much passion and lack of punctuation, I'm sure you could give acting a shot.
I‘m not sure but can‘t knights be also piloted from a sceptic tank, like some Titans are?
@@c0nn3 I think the larger classes of knights are big enough to fit, like the Dominus or Acastus classes. Those giant knights generally need older and more experienced pilots anyways, so it'd be worth the effort to exchange the cockpit throne for a liquid tank that could accommodate a wounded hero.
Knights are piloted in septic tanks sometimes too
A famous pilot who was permanently sealed within a life support tank with fluids, is Princeps Majoris Zarha Mancion, from Helsreach (great novel and theres an excellent fan made movie on youtube).
(Well the big emps did, but ya'know)
@@Mr._Idiot440 it could be, but the mechanicus' genesis makes sense even without it
Don’t forget that the machine god is what the mechanicus worships.
I agree, the WH40k fandom is one of the nicest fandoms. My hypothesis is that you already get to be evil in game, there's no point being irl too.
40:20 there is also Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus that is also like xcom
Omnissiah (emperor) is a messiah of machine god.
You confuse Imperial Knights with Titans as well.
Just some pointers. Cool video 👍
i think you may be conflating imperial knights with Titan legions
(Most of this is copy pasta from google cause im lazy)
Officially, the Cult Mechanicus maintains that the Emperor is the physical manifestation of the Machine God (the Omnissiah) and part of a trinity that also includes the Machine God and the Motive Force, the deity that gives all life and motion its continued existence.
As for the Grey Knights all im going to say is look up the Months of Shame....Majorkill has a fun vid about it ;)
Imperial Knights are manned almost exactly like Pacific Rim but the Machine CAN take over....it does have a mind of it's own if you will.
The emperor did do some magic shait whit macine that didint work,he fixis it like snap!! And after that, mars was onboard!
You can scale it up I saw a game that lasted weeks and was 6 Vs 6 on a 12 foot by 8ft table
You were getting Knights and Titans mixed up, Knights are big, Titans are massive, literal gods of war
Thats as early as i can think of it being originally used but im sure its not the 1st time
Highly recommend his new video about the space marine legions after yall are done with these.
One thing Bricky didn't mention about the Grey Knights is that if you know that they exist or even know the name then you pretty much dead.
nah the omnissiah is a being called the void dragon and slight correction with Imperial knights, its one guy who controls the knight via a throne located in the head. what you guys are thinking of is the Legio titanicus with encompasses warhound titan's, warlord titans and Imperator(Emperor class titans) which require a full crew of usually 1-4 tech adepts and a princeps which is the pilot in the sack of ambiotic fluid that is pretty much blended with the spirit of the titan.
The adepta Sororitas are full female, because there is a law that prohibits men at arms for the army of the ecclesiarchy.
She willingly went to Chaos, fell makes it sound like she was corrupted. I believe she is also the only official chaos sister of battle.
@@unionblue21 I knew of a sister of the battle who had been tortured by a demon and then had been corrupted.
When your car does some concerning noises or doesn't run as it should, and you're like "Come on baby don't let me down like that, hang on!"
Or when you PC/Console act up and you're like "Oh come on, not now don't do this to me"...
And so this phenomenon was called "Getting Clanged" or "Pissing off Clang"
It even became an inside Joke for the community and the Devs alike.
Each time someone made a complex contraption players would be like "be carefull, you're gonna piss off Clang" and when shits hit the fan "Ah you have angered Clang and now you pay the price"
It is to a point where this Knowledge of Clang, spread from the old player to the new players through the years.
Warhammer tabletop is XCom Tabletop with dice rolls instead of %
The Emperor and the Onmissiah thing is kind of more how they work together.
So the Cult Mechanicus worships a trinity:
1) the Deus Mechanicus that permates all machines, manifesting as, or giving life to (theoogy!), the Machine Spirits that inhabit all machines
2) the Omnissiah, the phiysical manifestation of the Machine God. Officially the Emperor, might actually be the Void Dragon, but... Theology!
3) the Motive Force, that which give all life and motion its continued existence. Absolutely not electricity, though easily confused for such due to theology(!)
the custodes do more than just sit around waiting. look up the blood games.
Each Factions has characters yes
When people say there are normal people in 40K, they meant physically, physiologically, & biologically. We do not mean morals here.
Also the The Imperial Guard are literal regular people, too. Don't forget them.
You can have multiple people playing 3v3 etc
Nuns whit guns! They are like female space marines, and there is more nuns than space marines.
It is most likely a mixture of the following:
1.) Part of the mystical rites are just... glorified maintainance routine work ("thou shallst now annoint each sacred cog with the oil of purity" aka make sure your moving parts are well lubricated or your machine goes kaputt.).
They’re basically dedicated corpses whos brains still function and are kept alive by the dreadnaught.... they put them to sleep for millennia on end and only wake them up when they’re truly needed,
Yes I get confused on them sometimes.. allot to take in 😬(Jayson)🦀
PRAYING TO MAKE GUNS WORK:
No it actually works better from praying and in some cases things are made to work by praying, Belief is very powerful in 40k because the Warp is connected to belief, the very concept itself.
So yes , to some extent the horrors of the warp, including the Chaos Gods and demons, are a product of the likes of Humanity and the Eldar etc
The belief in the Emperor as a God has to some extent , because of the amount of people that believe it and the power of the Emperor , has made the Emperor a Warp God.
So when they pray to make it work...that's literal AND figurative at the same time. The way 40k works , is complex, but when you get a handle on it it actually makes sense/follows a logic
They don't need to pray to their guns for them to work, however, Astartes in 40k are very religious, and so they pray to their tools of war, they bless them etc, in 30k, the Horus Hersey era, religion is outright refused and known to be fake, and they just take real good care of their tools, most of the legions obsessed over making sure their equipment was clean, their paint fresh etc, some of the legions didn't care for keeping the paint fresh
With the tabletop game, generally you field 2-3 Imperial Knights and a few infantry/officers, depending on the amount of points you're playing at, they have a ton of health and they hit a lot and they hit fucking hard, there are different Knight sizes, the Warlord Titan is the biggest in existence in 40k, however, in 30k/Horus Hersey era, there were MUCH bigger ones like the Dies Irae, for comparison, Titans/Knights today have two arm guns and usually two shoulder weapons, the Dies Irae had an entire building on it's shoulders that housed 10-20 artillery guns, as well as have two arm weapons, sometimes a chest weapon, and sometimes guns on the legs, I believe that was piloted by a 3 man crew plus maintenance crew, you have two pilots at the rank of Princeps, and a head officer who would run comms and run overall field strategy while the other two pilots did movement and weapons
You can also totally do more than 1v1 in the table top, you can play with as many people as you have space, there is a current game running or has already finished that was a total of like 130k points, for perspective, the most common game run is 1k points and that's usually like 3 squads of 10, maybe a couple tanks and a few heavy models
wait, so the Emperor believed the demons were the biggest threat to humanity, but his biggest strongest protectors are weak against demons??
Again Bricky gets this somewhat wrong. Custodes don't have psyker abilites to fight other psykers and daemons. Custodes do have a sort of bond and/or link to the God-Emperor himself that sort of acts like a passive defense against warp-based attacks and creatures. Not on the same level as the Sisters of Silence, but enough that they can get in close and destroy the target.
The Custodes aren't weak to demons, they're just not as good at killing demons as they are everything else.
@@chaosXP3RT They're actually better at killing daemons than Space Marines or even Sororitas. They're just not on the same level as Grey Knights, Sisters of Silence or Culexas assassins.
@@Tullaryx Ah alright
@@chaosXP3RT but that´s still weird, if demons are the biggest threat shouldn´t they be the best at killing them?
You are conflating Titans with Imperial Knights. They are both walkers but lore and culture wise and control scheme wise they are very different
Channels I would recommend for lore:
Channel(s) to avoid:
Custodes come from childs of the highend families of terra, who has died and thus leaved orphen childs! Thats what i heard in many sources!?
It's wrong. Custodes were personally created by the Emperor. They don't recruit or turn normal humans into Custodes like Space Marines.
When the time comes can you react to ▶️ Space Marine Creation by Luetin09
Dude on the far left is kinda bad at explaining the lore in more depth when asked lol
Umm;
Brother Azrael of the Dark Angels is here to have a "talk" with you about these "Toxic fans" you mentioned...
