A goofy-looking, bent-up straw hat is part of the Stoney Ridge Farmer persona. I have a couple, too. I think it's important to have them. It makes people underestimate you because they think you're a goober. It gives you the advantage.
BTW, please record a full-length version of your "We got goats, we got pigs, and we got chickens song." I my and my son's favorite., and it's too short. Here's a chicken song for ya: ua-cam.com/video/vNJnOfyhweo/v-deo.html
Josh I am gonna tell you what folks have been telling me for 52 years, " Tom looking at you and your wife of 52 years, son you married way up the ladder ", Josh, seeing Mrs. Stoney Ridge I say the same to you, you are a blessed man. GOD BLESS YOU KIDS👍👍👍👍👍 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Mrs Stoney Ridge has such a beautiful smile! With all do respect I would love see Mrs and Mr Stony Ridge all decked out for a night on the town, because I am betting that the Mrs. is an absolute head turner but she is far to modest to flaunt her beauty! Regardless of that it is obvious that she is a rare catch because of how hard she works in conditions that would make every city man I know scream uncle! but yet she keeps on plugging away at the job at hand...dang you gotta love a southern girl! Nothing holds them back from being successful! I hope my comment does not sound like I am a male chauvinist goof but I hope and shows that I really appreciate women that are both strong inside and out because that is where true beauty really exists
Hello Mrs. Stoney Ridge Farmer. I noticed your Vet Ranch shirt as soon as you came on. I love what they do and the story behind it's beginnings. How Matt was using money he made from Demolition Ranch to fund the cost of saving animals, but realized if he accepted donations from people wanting to help, he could help more animals. Anyhow, nice to meet you. I am pretty new to the channel, but am enjoying it. I hope the chicks take to pasture well.
I just wanted to say a few things here as I usually don’t make comments. My friends have the same kind of chicken coop, but theirs didn’t have the skies. I think that is genius putting them on to move the coop around the yard. The coops are all that light weight. Heads up though they learned the hard way that the chicken wire didn’t keep the raccoons from getting the chicks at night. The raccoons would reach in and pull parts of them out. They also had to take the corners out(by making the corners curved)as the chicks would huddle and climb on each other which caused them to lose some. I don’t wish to sound negative, because I truly like your channel, and I look forward each week to seeing more of them.
Just wait there is a cool new design coming for the coop that makes it lighter and move smoother....you'll like it...so far so good on the predators...but the coop is right in the yard where my German Shep can keep an eye on it all night
Thanks Josh. Good info. Watch your videos morning, lunch and dinner. Getting caught up and new to your channel. Awesome for someone like me that grew up differently but wannabe and will be a farmer to some degree soon. 👍💪
When you ordered your chicks, did they let you choose how many hens and how many roosters you received? I know they are meat chickens, but if you wanted laying hens would they? I have a story that goes with that. My friend went and purchased his first dozen birds a few years ago, so he could start getting some eggs. Around the time his birds got the size yours are or a bit bigger, I stopped by for a visit. He was talking to me about how they had helped him pick his chicks out at a local store and he had bought 11 hens and 1 rooster. Now, I am not the greatest at sexing a chick (lord the puns there) but from what I could tell the man had been snookered. I went to looking at his birds and said, " you have 11 roosters and 1 hen. you better fix that before they get bigger or they will screw her to death." We argued about it a bit, mostly just fun banter with me harassing him about all the roosters he was going to have to eat and I went on my way. About a month or two later, I asked how his chickens were doing, the reply I got was the best. "They screwed my hen to death. I now have 10 roosters I have to get rid of." "10?" I asked. "Yeah, after they were done with the hen, they went after one of the other roosters too."
Stoney Ridge Farmer oh I thought the chicken coop had shelter, but then again I know nothing about raising them. I just assumed that as soon as they got fethers they went into the chicken coop with the other chickens you have in the coop
ah....now I get your question....so here is the deal: The meat birds would be pecked to death by the other laying hens in the coop...the laying hen coop is sized appropriately to house about 15-20 birds . The reason we put the baby meat birds out on pasture is so they cruise about eating bugs/dirt and grass. They poop alot!!!! And I mean a lot!!!!! So to keep the poop situation under control we move them daily and fertilize the pastures and yard....the meat birds will eat 15 lbs of food or more per day by week 6....that's 15 lbs of poop down on the lawn....so we're getting the benefit of a better tasting bird...lawn/pasture fertilizer and raising our own food. Anytime you introduce a new bird in with a flock...they will kill it or peck the crap out of it (that's where the term "pecking order" comes from) if you introduce new birds to your flock you need to introduce an equal amount of birds or the pecking will begin. Hope this helps...I misunderstood the first time I answered ya .....thanks for asking questions!! Josh
Stoney Ridge Farmer lmbo, oh now it makes sense, I really thought the older hens would mother the chicks , sounds alot like the hospital I used to work at 🤣,Mrs stoney ridge will get it..

I meant to say the coops aren’t very lite weight.
Just wait there is a cool new design coming for the coop that makes it lighter and move smoother....you'll like it...so far so good on the predators...but the coop is right in the yard where my German Shep can keep an eye on it all night

That is a great. I've always been told to expect up to 10% loss. My father raised chickens and that was what was expected.

Those will be great meat birds. Best thing is you know exactly what it took to grow them and you did it. Are you going to butcher all of them at once?

Havent seen the $100 truck lately

The only chick I ever lost was a runt and never ate anything.
Your poor hat josh lol
Why dont you keep them In the chicken coop ? Just curious
What do you mean? Baby birds will not survive without shelter and protection from predators
Stoney Ridge Farmer oh I thought the chicken coop had shelter, but then again I know nothing about raising them. I just assumed that as soon as they got fethers they went into the chicken coop with the other chickens you have in the coop
