    I hear that a lot. “Why make/raise your own food when you can go to the store and buy it easier?”
    People don’t get it that 90% of the food in the store was not around a 100 years ago. Most food in the store is toxic food. If it isnt full of carcinogenic dyes, additives, fillers, and chemicals, it is void of any nutrients.

      I agree....raising your own food also gives you much more respect for what it takes to raise and care for it...I don't care if it's a carrot or a lamb...you'll do everything you can to keep from wasting food if you put the work into raising it!

    Raised my first batch of 50 cornish crosses this summer. Your series on pasture raised chickens was a big help. I got a lot of great information from watching your videos. Thank you very much. I love knowing that my family is able to enjoy fresh farm raised chickens year around.

    When we got our first pullets, our then eight year old daugher asked, "these chickens are for eggs, not legs, right?"
    We laughed out loud.
    Then when a couple of them developed large Combs I thought maybe we had a couple roosters. So then she asked, if they're not going to lay eggs, can we use them for legs?
    She loves those chickens and she loves chicken...

    It's funny, first time I had fresh chicken, I thought there was something wrong with the meat.
    Now, grocery store chicken is the strange taste.
    Thanks for the info and my inner chuckle to myself about the different taste.

    How do they get enough sunlight with the roof fully covered

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  4 роки тому +1

      My question to you is this: How much direct sunlight does a chicken need? Remember the sun isn't always at high noon in the sky. Even if I leave the doorway off the birds won't just lay in the sun..it would overheat them. So these birds can get direct sunlight at any hour of the day except when the sun is directly above them...they just move to the outer edge of the coop. If you've ever seen chickens in a coop on a hot summer day...they are most certainly not hanging out in the sun. These birds get more sunlight than any bird you've ever tasted. More exercise, more forage and more roughage. Hope that explains it. Better way to say it is ....if you've ever used a beach umbrella to keep the sun off ya...you know you've gotta move to follow the shadow of the umbrella throughout the day.
