I’m so glad you enjoyed this song! Lyrically it’s one of Roger’s best in my opinion. Definitely an overlooked gem. I’ve probably suggested it before lol, but his song Fight From the Inside is another great one! My favorite Roger song!
That falsetto is why Freddie called Roger's voice a dog whistle. Then, boy, did Freddie take advantage when he made Roger sing "Galileo!" over and over and over again. I'll bet Roger still has nightmares about that recording session; and I bet wherever Freddie is he's still laughing his ass off about it! Great hidden gem, bro. Thanks for showcasing it.
Drowse is a rare gem very over looked but its totally brill, but, there are dozens of these songs enjoy your journey (i have been a Queen fan for 46 years)
Thank you so much! This was one of the deepest Queen songs, and I really wish Roger wrote more in the early Queen days. He had something to say, still does. And really he could be a lead singer if he wanted to.
I clicked so fast when I saw Drowse on your channel. I love all the changes and textures in this song and Rogers voice is simply divine . It really is a beautiful song all round. Roger grew up in Cornwall hence the small town boy reference. He certainly made something of himself regardless. Thank you for doing this gem , I hope you can do Fight From The Inside soon - I know you will love his voice in that too. Cheers.
Been jotted :). Will be out through next week sometime. Tomorrow I've got some reuploads from NEVault that have been requested, they should tide you over haha :)
One of my favs I'm originally from the north west of England... used to listen to this constantly when I was younger and it always had that nostaligic vibe.. worked in the shipyard from 16-23.. felt like that was all I was going to amount to.. but 30 years later I'm living in Norway and life turned out a lot differently than I could ever have thought. Listening to this song I can still remember blasting this out as a 10 year old back in 1970s... When Queen released the Game I felt they had lost the magic and didn't listen to any music for the next 6 years...
In any other universe Roger & Brian both could have been lead singers of a band, although Brian's admitted he found it difficult to sing and play guitar at the same time. Thank God! Because those 2 with John Deacon & Freddie were pure gold, pure magic together as 4.
Roger is a phenomenal lyricist. He'll make you laugh AND cry. I'm glad the "wheel of music" landed on Drowse. I was hoping you'd react to this one. It's largely unknown, but a fantastic song. Take care. :-)
I love this song. Listen to it almost every day. Roger wrote more music than was used on Queen albums. Probably why he was the first to put out solo work. I Wanna Testify in 1977 was his first solo single. His first song on the first Queen album was Modern Times Rock and Roll, a total banger sung by him on the album and sung by Freddie in concert. They both do a great job. You could react to the lyric video with Roger singing first then Modern Times Rock and Roll Live From the Rainbow 1974 after! His song to Freddie, Old Friends, is beautiful.
I kid you not, this song was running through my head today. This is my favorite Roger Taylor song besides I’m in love with my car. If you haven’t reacted to that yet your best version is “live in Montreal” 1981. Also from that same concert “keep yourself alive” Roger has a great drum solo!!
“Jack That Roger’s Voice Back!! So good! I like HAPPINESS & OLD FRIENDS by Roger, too!! Roger blends so well with Freddie & harmonies with Brian!! Magic!
Great reaction! A totally awesome and another massively underrrated Roger track. Check out "More of That Jazz" from 78' - absolute classic from Mr Taylor with diamond vocals and guitar.
Roger's voice changed as he got older. He lost some of his range, but he kept the quality. He got quite political in his solo career. Still making music as a "senior"... I really like The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken), a single from from his Fun On Earth album. He sings and plays all instruments.
your reactions are always so relatable to me (helps that im on the exact same spiral as you, going from barely knowing all their names to watching somebody to love live in montreal to now living a roger taylor appreciation life), you always say exactly what im thinking and react to all the things i like, cheers to that
Hi Dezz!!!! I bought this album in 1980, and when I heard this song was "love at the first heard"... Love the album, but this song is so special, different, so deammy, and Roger vocals, doing the low and the high voice at the same tima, incradible... Love it...
My mother passed away january 18 , I remember myself as a small boy way back 1976 listening to A Day at the Races on my parents console stereo and my mom dancing to some of the songs , I just went back to when my mom was still alive , I'm crying as I'm trying to type , thank you brother ! 👍😢
Sorry to hear about your mother mate. She'll be smiling down on you, she had a great taste in music! I lost my father in 2018 to cancer & I know first hand the pain of losing a parent. But don't you worry, the JackThatBack army all have your back. Chin up mate, rooting for ya!
@@JackThatBack I always have a smile on my face while watching your reaction videos , I can always count on you to hear all the elements of each song ! I'm sorry to hear of your loss of your father , it has been very difficult for me , but watching your videos has been very therapeutic for me along with the support & suggestions you are getting from us Queen fans , keep it up brother ! 👍I watched you recent reaction to Machines , I recently suggested Machines , they are performing Machines live with Adam Lambert , the live versions are really cool 😎
As Freddie said “I’m not going to be a star, I’m going to be a legend”. Talk about coming from a small town! He was born and lived his first 8 years in a tiny town in Zanzibar and then the next 10 years in a boarding school in India.
Great song, it´s interesting how he wrote about middle age crisis when he was 27, he wanted to be different but, according to te lyrics, he didn't accomplish his dream. Then, 15 years later, he wrote These are the days of our lives when he was middle age, and he could appreciate all he had when he was young and life was much more simple. Good choice,
Hi Dave, I'm back after a break....great reaction as ever, your detail is second to none...'Fight From The Inside' next please.....pretty please...keep it going mate massive 👍
Thanks for this one. Glad you enjoyed it. Lyrically, the themes of this song are a bit similar to Queen's song Spread Your Wings - about a small town boy dreaming of leaving to make something of his life. Spread Your Wings is also of course quite a heavy rock sound too (with Freddie on vocals instead).
Fantastic reaction David 😊 thank you so much as always mate ! Love you ! Try Rogers solo song BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!! Drowse was Rogers favourite queen song ! A couple of us have requested drowse !! David it's one of my favourite songs to play on my guitar 😊
Another great Roger song. Yes Ive seen it being requested when you said you loved Rogers voice. I'm the other way round to you. I worried about everything when I was younger & now I couldn't give a damn. Ha Ha I'm a 9 to 5 worker in a Northern town 😂
So many comments here about the song but I want to comment on the reaction. I am starting to enjoy your company mate. So far I have only listened to your Queen reactions, but I like the comments: they are relevant without being too technical, you react to the musical talent as well as the lyrics, and something about your accent and 'tude makes the commentary have a music also - kind of like Roger's rasp. I wish you the best as you continue to build your channel. Cheers!
Roger was/is a super talent. Songs are no longer written like this. We thought they would get better with technology, but the industry went lame and bland. This is serious poetry with amazing Brian May slide guitars blazing the trail with those brilliant vocals.
Just started watching your reaction videos and to be honest there the best I've seen. You're only 22 but seem really switched on in regards to 'older'music. Please would do a reaction video to 'loser in the end ' off their queen 2 album. Another with Roger on lead vocals
Drowse, just like Tenement Funster, I think there are the most personal and sincere Roger's songs for Queen, I always thought that he was talking about his own childhood... Love you liked too!!! Please, you got to react to "I Wanna Testify", his very first solo single from 1977, here is the link if you want to hear... Love u Dezz!!! ua-cam.com/video/FI2D-VpGrHA/v-deo.html

If you turn the volume all the way up at the end you can hear someone say ‘Brian May’ after Roger says ‘who else do I like?’ lol
Yep -and this is "octave" vocals -- not harmony...he's singing both parts - high and low - octaves... well done, Roger!
